Katy perry Music Video Analysis 6
1. In this part of the video, a shot type that is used
is called ‘medium close-up shot’.
This shot frames a subject's head (the tiger) and
cuts off around mid-chest.
The focus is on the subject.
This shot type reveals only a little of the
surroundings, still showing the tiger’s face and
necklace that has the title name of ‘Kitty Purry’.
This title somehow comes across as being
slightly ‘girlish’, as firstly the tiger is wearing a
necklace, usually worn by females for style,
fashion and accessories.
Mise-en-scene in this part of the video uses High-key lighting, as it
consists of bright, vivid and vibrant colours, such as green, blue and
red.
Mise-en-scene in this part of
the video clearly shows the
setting/location of the video,
as there is a tiger and behind
the tiger, there is a
background of it’s
surroundings, which is nature
and greenery, which clearly
signifies that this is set in a
jungle, due to the background
and the presence of the tiger.
This part of the video also uses a camera technique called ‘pulling focus’, which
directs the viewer to focus on the main subject of the video, which in this part would
be the tiger and the name title on it’s necklace. Due to the background of the tiger
being blurred out, all the focus is on the tiger, as it is the centre of attention, since it
is not blurred out like the background.
