2. A severe shortage of student parking leads to a
wide range of issues affecting our education.
Many students spend up to an hour or more in
UTSA’s parking lot, waiting for a parking
space.
Arguments, profanity, horn blowing, and name
calling are the embarrassing norms.
3. Number of students -- 25,794
Number of student parking spaces, including
all lots that must be shuttled to campus – 1,425
The busiest times of day are from 12-1 and 5-7.
UTSA shuttle drivers explain that during these
times, the shuttles fill up so quickly that they
are unable to make it to all the stops in a given
lot, and are forced to leave many students
waiting an additional 10 + minutes for the next
shuttle.
4. Waiting for parking
Worrying about parking
Following students to their cars in a stalker-ish
manner.
Running to class frantically after waiting for
students who just left class to make it out to the
parking lot
5. A distraction for the Professor
A distraction for fellow students
Missed class time for the late student
Unneeded stress, not conducive to a healthy
learning environment
6.
7. A general lack of available parking
Too many parking permits sold in comparison
to number of parking spots available
Too much unused staff parking
8.
9. The University should allocate more resources
to student parking.
Money should be taken from areas that have
less of an effect on our quality of education.
Example: Many students might prefer hassle-
free parking over the lazy river. The lazy river,
an albeit beautiful and enjoyable resource,
makes less of a contribution to our quality of
education than quick and efficient parking
would.
10. Fee is $120
Total fees for a given semester – 3.1 million; 6.2
million yearly
If a portion of the monetary resources allocated
the rec center were instead re-allocated to
student parking, our quality of education
would be significantly improved
These resources could be used to build more
parking lots and add more shuttles to existing
lots.
11. UTSA transportation fee is $20
The ability for every student to attend every
class, on time, every time, should be the
University’s number one goal, however, the
allocation of resources does not support this
view.
