Hi! Nice to meet you! My name is John Smith. I am 19 and a student in college. I go to
college in New York. My favorite courses are Geometry, French, and History. English is
my hardest course. My professors are very friendly and smart. It’s my second year in
college now. I love it!
I live in a big house on Ivy Street. It’s near the college campus. I share the house with
three other students. Their names are Bill, Tony, and Paul. We help each other with
homework. On the weekend, we play football together.
I have a younger brother. He just started high school. He is 14 and lives with my parents.
They live on Mulberry Street in Boston. Sometimes they visit me in New York. I am happy
when they visit. My Mom always brings me sweets and candy when they come. I really
miss them, too!

George and the dragón
Once upon a time there was a brave knight called George. George had lots of
adventures as he travelled by horse across many lands.
One day he came to a small village and met a man who lived in a cave next to the
village. The hermit told the knight about the awful things that were happening there. A
terrible dragon had come to live in the lake and attacked the village every day. The
villagers didn’t know what to do. First, they gave the dragon all their food, but the
dragon just took the food and still attacked the village. So then the villagers gave the
dragon all the animals from their farms. The dragon took all the animals, but continued
to attack the villagers.
So then they gave the dragon all their gold and jewels. The dragon took all their money,
but still was not satisfied. The king sent his army to try and capture the dragon, but the
dragon was too strong and the knights of the army were too scared and they ran away.
With nothing left to give, the king could only think of one thing to helping protect his
people. He sent his only daughter, the princess, to the lake to wait for the dragon.
When George heard this he rode as fast as he could to the lake. Just then the dragon
jumped out from the lake and was going to eat the princess. George attacked the
dragon.
He fought very bravely, won the fight and killed the dragon. George and the princess
returned to the village and everyone was very pleased that they would have no more
problems with the dragon.

I live in a house near the mountains. I have two brothers and one sister, and I was
born last. My father teaches mathematics, and my mother is a nurse at a big
hospital. My brothers are very smart and work hard in school. My sister is a nervous
girl, but she is very kind. My grandmother also lives with us. She came from Italy
when I was two years old. She has grown old, but she is still very strong. She cooks
the best food!
My family is very important to me. We do lots of things together. My brothers and I
like to go on long walks in the mountains. My sister likes to cook with my
grandmother. On the weekends we all play board games together. We laugh and
always have a good time. I love my family very much.

The Legend of Salatiga
Many years ago, there was a sunan who was very honest. He taught about religion and
the meaning of life. His name is Sunan Kalijogo. He adventured to spread his
lesson. One day, he arrived in avillage. He went to the village chief’s house. Sunan
Kalijogo didn’t say his real name and he asked for a job. The chief’s wife said that he
could help to cut grass for horses.
Sunan Kalijogo liked to live simply. Soon after that, the chief realized that the
man was Sunan Kalijogo. The chief was very surprised. Then, he decided to follow the
Sunan’s lesson. To follow the Sunan lesson, he had to leave all his
properties, but his wife didn’t agree. So, his wife brought jewelry in a
bamboo.
When they were taking a rest in a village, there was a robber. He took all the
things from the Chief’s wife. Sunan said that this place would be busy and full of people.
He gave the place a name. The name was Salahtiga, because in this place there were
three wrong people. There was the chief, his wife and the robber who like to
collect properties. And now, the place is called Salatiga
