J. Randall “Randy” Waterfield chairs Waterfield Group, a privately-held financial services holding
firm that grew from companies founded in 1928 by his grandfather, Richard H. Waterfield. He also
sits on the boards of several other companies, including the SMTC Corporation, Red Oak Partners,
and Asure Software. Alongside his professional responsibilities, J. Randall Waterfield helps guide
the activities of the Waterfield Foundation and the J. Randall Waterfield Foundation. These
organizations support charitable and educational causes such as Canterbury School, a non-
denominational Christian school in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Canterbury School was established in 1977 by a group of parents seeking to give their children a
more challenging academic experience. The school’s inaugural enrollment was 89 students in
kindergarten through 6th grade; high school classes were initially offered in 1983, and the school
graduated its first high school class in 1987.

The years since have seen dramatic advancement and continued success. Today, the school has
about 950 pupils, with class sizes averaging from 16 to 18 individuals each. The high school
maintains a student-faculty rate of 8:1 and offers only college-preparatory courses, which are
considered honors level. Moreover, the average SAT score of Canterbury School students is 1289,
more than 200 points higher than either the Indiana or the US average. All 89 of its 2018 graduates
were headed for college.

Canterbury School helps its students succeed in life by nurturing intellectual curiosity, artistic
abilities, athletic prowess, and leadership. In addition to rigorous academic workloads, students are
required to complete community-service hours, an internship program that pairs them with
professionals in careers of interest, and an intensive independent project during their junior year.
Students are also able to pursue studies beyond Canterbury's curricular offerings through the
Malone Scholars Online Network.
