9. “Look,” shouted Eric. “There is a
rainbow!” His mother came to the
window to look.
“It seems close,” she said. “It goes down
behind the houses across the street.
Do you suppose there is a pot of gold at
the end of the rainbow?”
11. “I am going to find out,” Eric said. He
crossed the street to Mr. Ramos’s
house. Mr. Ramos, do you think the end
of the rainbow is in your backyard?”
asked Eric. “Do you think there is a pot
of gold?”
Mr. Ramos smiled, “Well, it would not
hurt to look. You wait here, Eric, and I
will go to see.”
14. Eric hopped up and down while he waited.
Next door, Mrs. Reyes came out on to her
porch.” “What a beautiful rainbow,” she said. “I
want to find the pot of gold at the end of the
rainbow,” Eric told her.
“Maybe I should look out in my backyard,”
Mrs. Reyes said and she hurried away. Mrs.
Santos had overheard their conversation. “I
will look, too,” she said. Soon the neighbors
came back. ”This is your lucky day,” called Mr.
Ramos. He handed Eric a paper bag.
17. Eric was so excited! He looked inside the bag. It
was full of yellow mangoes. Eric was
disappointed, but he still remembered to say
thank you. Mrs. Reyes said, “Maybe this is what
you are looking for.”
“She handed Eric a bunch of flowers. Now he
was puzzled. Mrs. Santos gave him a jar. “Is this
what you want?” The jar was full of water, and
there was a fish swimming inside.
Mangoes, flowers, and a fish! “How could the
neighbor have made such a mistake?” Eric
wondered as he walked home.
18. “I do not know what is wrong with
everybody,” Eric said crossly. “I wanted
the pot of gold and look what they gave
me.”
His mother looked at everything, and
then she began to laugh. “Oh, Eric you
did find the gold!”
“What do you mean?” he asked.
22. “Thatis goldfish,” she said. “The
flowers are golden shower. And the
mangoes are called golden
mangoes.” Eric began to
laugh, too. “So there was gold at
the end of the rainbow.
