1. Self Esteem:
Georgia Southern University
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to access the self esteem of the Georgia
Southern University Student body. Self esteems is a controversial topic
and questions pertaining to it my not yield an honest response. The
research design used was a quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental,
one-shot study in which the 14-question survey measured the self esteem
of the Georgia Southern University student body (n=165).

Purpose
The purpose of this study was
to access the self esteem of the student body of Georgia Southern Campus
Sub-Purposes:
To determine if age affects the attitudes towards their self esteem
To explore how gender affects the attitudes towards their self esteem
Evaluate their peers opinions effects on their self esteem
To explore the amount of students who are confident in their appearance
versus students who aren’t.
Methods
The research method for the study was quantitative, descriptive, non-
experimental, one-shot study (n=165).
Sampling methodology conducted in this research was non-probability,
sample of convenience.
The target population for this research was community residents 18 years
and older.
Data collection was conducted on Georgia Southern University campus.
Consensual Content Validity was established for the instrument (cite source)
Internal Consistency Reliability was determined by Cronbach Alpha of 0.87.

Conclusion/Recommendations
Self Esteem research is a controversial topic and is hard to positively test because
we can not access the accuracy of their answers. Self Esteem is defined in many
ways ; defined as a person's overall sense of self-worth or personal value and
confidence in one's own worth or abilities; self-respect. Self-esteem
encompasses beliefs (for example, "I am competent," "I am worthy")
and emotions such as triumph, despair, pride and shame (Wikipedia 2015). Self-
esteem is often seen as a personality trait, which means that it tends to be stable
and enduring (Psychology Glossary 2015). The need for self-esteem plays an
important role in psychologist Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs, which depicts
self-esteem as one of the basic human motivations (Psychology Glossary 2015).
there are a number of different factors that can influence self-esteem. Genetic
factors that help shape overall personality can play a role, but it is often our
experiences that form the basis for overall self-esteem. Those who consistently
receive overly critical or negative assessments from caregivers, family members,
and friends, for example, will likely experience problems with low self-esteem
(Psychology Glossary 2015).

The research conducted in the college town of Bulloch County . It was found
that more people exercised to stay in shape (p=78.2) along with eating health
showing they are responsible for their own weight and aren’t influenced by
products to lose weight. . It also showed that more than half almost all believed
they were attractive and are confident in their looks (p=143). That shows that the
self esteem on Georgia Southern's campus is very high. We must also keep in
mind that some respondents did not answer honestly due to, not really wanting
to do it, fear, and peer influencing.
Georgia Southern can start doing a better job on influencing self esteem and
promoting good health showing how it can be beneficial to mind, body, and
soul. The use of self esteem test could be for detecting depression . I think the
most beneficial way to build self esteem should be done in earlier year such as
primary schooling. Self esteem is a very huge component of being successful.
Having high self esteem influences the things you do on a day to day basis and
should be taken with more seriously than it is.
