This is a biographical presentation in series, about my father Late artist Prof. R.P.Joshi covering his contribution for art education,landscape paintings,portrait,still life and textile design and colour since 1942 till his death in 1987.
1. This series of presentation is intend to cover the
holistic biographical information and works of fine art
of my father late Prof. R.P.JOSHI.
He was an artist, art teacher, a father with excellent
values and adorable family head. He created new
identity for us imbibing art sensitivity
in his eight children.
My mother late INDUMATI
a gifted vocal classical singer,
inborn knitting craft artist and
the ultimate lovable, kind hearted mother who created
emotional bodings
for the entire family.
This is an effort to express the gratitude towards them
on behalf of my entire family.
My father wrote several articles on art since 1942 till
his death in 1987. His contribution to art of woven
textile design is also covered besides paintings. His
views expressed through articles on art education
gives good insights in today's context. It is my

4. Late Prof.R.P.Joshi my father always use to teach me to
study eyes its highlights and iris whenever we discusses
about HEAD-STUDY or PORTRAIT PAINTING. These are

38. SUMMARIES OF THE ORIGINAL MARATHI
ARTICLES IN ENGLISH:
Jacquard Woven Portrait Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj : This is woven by S. Y.
Prabhu a student of B. Tech. in V.J.T.I. under the guidance of R. P. Joshi during
1960s. The original sketch is by the famous artist M.R.Achrekar. This portrait is
created with 400 vertical fibers and 600 horizontal fibers. The grade of the fiber is
20. R. P. Joshi’s real educational contribution in V.J.T.I. is bringing science,
technology and Fine Art together during his tenure (1949 to 1971) of nearly 25
years. He motivated students to weave on machine series of such portraits of
important personalities. This was breakthrough teaching effort during that time. In
this power point you can see his artistic caliber as portrait painter in water colour
and oil medium. This could be perhaps rare example of an artist of his kind playing
simultaneously the roles of art teacher, the artist and creative innovator who is
blending art and science/technology.
You will read several articles published in Marathi and English documenting his
such experiments in textile design and colour in all these power point
presentations. Few are presented in this also.
An event of demonstration and guest at Model Art Institute of eminent artist
Devuskar. This and many such art activities R.P.Joshi was the key organizer in
Bombay’s art world. Here Devuskar expresses the concern of redefining art
education in Maharashtra State.
S.K. Patil the then union minister expressing desire to beautify nature around
Bombay during the annual art show at Indian Art Institute. He also declared the
opening of the annual publication of Federation of Art Institutes.
