10 minutes 
tell your partner the ‘key idea’

get into groups of 3 
about: 
one person – write down any search terms and places you search 
one person – note down everything that is found and discussed 
one/two people – search on laptops for group 
quick (5 minute) presentations at the end 
there’s no right or wrong answers (today)!

Before next week 
read one of the papers each – decide among your group who 
reads which 
as before identify related papers that would be useful to read 
again - by the end of Thursday, write a short (more than 300 
words, less than 500) reflective commentary on what you have 
learnt about the origins of HCI based on the activity today and 
the paper(s) you read – post this as a comment on the ‘week 2’ 
page on the module website. 
You will be getting some comments (from Rachel) on last weeks 
posts – maybe respond to them.

  • 2. Recap and discussion: People as Agents 10 minutes tell your partner the ‘key idea’ tell your partner what other ideas and literature are referred to tell your partner how it relates to something you already know about
  • 3. Tell us something about… 45 minutes get into groups of 3 about: one person – write down any search terms and places you search one person – note down everything that is found and discussed one/two people – search on laptops for group quick (5 minute) presentations at the end there’s no right or wrong answers (today)!
  • 4. Tell us something about: … involving people actively in the design of new technologies 45 minutes tell us some examples tell us a positive tells us a negative tell us how it might relate to digital civics
  • 5. Before next week read one of the papers each – decide among your group who reads which as before identify related papers that would be useful to read again - by the end of Thursday, write a short (more than 300 words, less than 500) reflective commentary on what you have learnt about the origins of HCI based on the activity today and the paper(s) you read – post this as a comment on the ‘week 2’ page on the module website.
