Indag Rubber Ltd. at Jhiriwala. This information will be important for company management.
This will be a way to increase penetrability in the market. In any marketing job such type of data
collections is very important to complete the aims of marketing studies. My study objectives are
as follows
 The main objective of study is to find the consumer awareness relating to Indag Rubber
Ltd.
 The purpose of the study is to explore the market of Indag Rubber Ltd. and betterment
of its sale.

Company Profile
Indag Rubber Ltd. was incorporated in 1978 by N Khemka jointly with Bandag, US, which holds
about 38.34% equity of the company. The company went public in 1984. Bandag provides
technical assistance to the company. Commercial production of the company's unit at Bhiwadi,
Rajasthan, to manufacture precured synthetic treat material, cushion gum, precured rubber
patches and specialised retreading equipment commenced in Oct.'84. In 1987, it set up captive
retreading plants for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation at Bangalore and Belgaum.
Indag sells its products directly to its franchises appointed all over the country and the actual
retreading operation are carried out by the franchises, but now it is open for all customers to
purchase product directly. It provides support services. The company exports to the middle-east,
Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc. Marketing focus has been on improved product quality, wider
products offerings based on customers needs and value added services to franchisees, greater
emphasis is laid on revival and expansion of franchises network for wider market coverage. The
Company is concentrating on utilizing the full potential of the existing franchisees and setting up
new franchisees in unrepresented areas, so as to have a larger and more efficient network of
franchisees. To make the quality of its product best the company is concentrating on improving
the technology and also the process of manufacturing very simple.
The company has completed an expansion of its manufacturing plant at Nalagarh,
Himachal Pradesh. As a result of this expansion, the monthly production capacity of Precured
Tread Rubber of the plant stands now at around 1200 tons a month, besides over 1800 tons of
uncured rubber gum. This expansion was completed in a record time enabling the company to
avail the benefits of excise etc. on the increased production for nearly next five years. Company
was manufacturing to capacity and still not able to meet the demand of all the customers. The
increase in capacity because of expansion would now allow company to meet this demand.
CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) & Ethical practices
 COMMITMENT TO QUALITY: Indag recognizes quality as a pre-requisite for its
operations and has implemented ISO 9001:2000 standards at manufacturing plant.
 Indag Rubber Ltd has informed BSE that the Board of Directors of the Company at its
meeting held on April 18, 2011, inter alia, has recommended 25% final dividend for the
year 2010-11.
 Indag Rubber Ltd is first company that introduces Cold Retreading in India.
 The tyre retreading industry as whole has seen growth over the past year. The level of
radialization is steadily increasing which necessitates the use of best quality retreads to
get the maximum benefit to the customers.
 HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT: During the year the company had cordial
relations with workers, staff and officers. The shop floor management is done through
personal touch, using various motivational tools and meeting their training needs
requirements. We believe in empowering our employees through greater knowledge,
team spirit and developing greater sense of responsibility.
 RISKS AND THEIR MITIGATION: The Company is exposed to various risks which
are normal in any business enterprise. The main ones and the steps undertaken to mitigate
these risks are mentioned below,
* Financial risk: Credit risk on account of material supplied to customers has been
mitigated to a large extent by insisting on large number of parties to pay in advance
before supplies are made. In the case of others PDC's are taken against supplies. The risk
of delayed payment from STU's is controlled and managed by rigorous follow-up.
* Increase in price of raw materials: Normal increase in prices of raw materials is
generally factored while fixing product prices to the customers. Unexpected increases
however do affect profitability till prices are revised to meet the costs. In case of fixed
price contracts unprecedented increase in raw material prices have serious impact on
margins.
* Changes in government policies: Changes in government policies can at times
materially affect company's financial position or investments. There is little that can be
done about it.
* Operational risk: Preventive maintenance is carried out to achieve high level of
machine availability. Adequate inventory of stocks at each stage of operation is
maintained to keep production going on in case of any breakdown.
* Product risk: Research and development is being undertaken to deliver better
products, service and value to end-customers.
 If there is any complain from consumer side, company authority will try to find its
solution. If it due to company mistake, company will replace or repair the product.

Working Methodology
Descriptive Research
The aim of research is to search out the truth which has not been disclosed till yet and also is to
find the solution of the problems by means of scientific techniques. During my survey, I have
tried to find out reason of less preference of using Indag retread rubber tyre as compared to other
competitors in Nalagarh region.
Sampling Process
Population Element: The research was conducted on the people who are currently
using retread rubber on tyre of different companies like Indag, Midas, JK and LG.
Sample size: The total sample size consists of 50 customers.
Sampling Method:-
Non Probability: The customers were randomly selected according to
convenience and the data was collected from them by going to the different shops that
fit and remove vehicle tyre, I also meet to owners of Truck and Tractor.
Data Collection: For the research purpose the data is collected in the form of
Primary data and Secondary data.
 Primary data is collected in the form of Structured Questionnaire.
 Secondary data is collected from Website, Newspaper and Boucher’s.
Primary Data:-
Primary data is collected through direct interviews with the customers who are using
retread rubber and puncture shopkeepers who send tyre to the plant for retreading.
These puncture shop keeper connect with retread tyre agent especially to those who
give some discount per tyre. The data has been collected on the basis of the
requirement of the research. Questionnaire has been prepared to complete objectives
of the research.
Secondary data:-
Secondary data is collected from various website, Newspaper and company Boucher.
Some of the websites referred is as follow
www.google.com
www.indagrubber.com

Major finding:
There are a large number of retread tyre rubber users. Most demand is for Truck and
Tractor retread tyre rubber, this demand is because of huge number of industries in
Nalagarh region. Basically all industries are manufacturing unit so need transportation
for supplying goods to different parts of country, for the fulfillment of this purpose a lot of
trucks are needed. In this region tractors are use basically for mining work. Tractors
need to run on and off road conditions. From above one can conclude that there is lot of
scope for retread rubber industry in this region. I found from the analysis of collected
data, Midas is big competitor in this region. Midas captures almost all retread tyre
rubber market in Nalagarh, Chokiwala and Baddi region, but Jhiriwala, Panjhare,
Gulabpura, Joghon, Baruna and Baghari market has been more captured by Indag.
Ninety percent of Tractor trolley retread tyre rubber, especially in case of Tractors used
for mining prefers to Midas retread rubber, this is the due to the special design pattern
availability to Midas Pvt. Ltd. Indag Tractor trolley retread tyre rubber decays just as if
mouse has cut it into small pieces.
Customer says that Midas retreated tyre have more
mileage, their delivery of retread tyre is more quick, Midas retailer have good margin
and have more efficient trolley tyre rubber design pattern as compare to Indag. It is
exciting to note that markets in this region where Midas has good hold no Indag sale
man has visited to these market yet. Customer complaints that tyre which have been
rejected for the retreadment by the Indag, Midas retread those tyre.
(Bias-12-00-20-12-00-24)
More than ninety percent Tractor trolley tyre use Midas tyre design pattern shown
above. This design is at high demand in market. Puncture shop keeper when asked why
don’t use Indag retreaded tyre, complaints that Indag don’t have this design pattern.
Analysis
In the questionnaire respondent was asked to fill their occupation to know that
customers with what occupation prefer retread tyre.

Indag, but also that of other companies such as Midas, JK, LG etc. I ask them about
services, mileage, satisfaction level, their view about product quality and future uses. All
customers responded well and frequently told about the product which they use.
Interpretation of the data:
Out of 50 respondents 28 respondents are Puncture shop keeper, 12 respondents are
Truck owner and 10 respondents are Tractor owner who are using different-2 company
retread tyre rubber. Above pie graph shows that out of total number of samples
collected 56% Puncture shop keeper, 24% Truck owner and 20% Tractor owner are

some are using two at a time. I have skipped those cases that were using Midas
services along with Indag at the same time, because Midas is a market leader in this
region.
Data showing the distance covered by vehicle after retread of tyre is tabulated as

The respondents were asked whether they are aware of Indag rubber ltd retread tyre or

like Midas etc. are not ready to replace it with Indag, because of their better services
and good quality of rubber. It has also been complaint by Indag users that retread

these are not aware about it. I understand that customers do not have the knowledge of
the benefits of cold retreading.
A survey after interaction with customers acknowledges us that, Indag retread tyre
rubber users are not fully satisfied with the retread work as the Midas customers are. All
most all customers who are using Indag retread Tractor trolley tyre rubber complaint
that retread rubber decays so as if a mouse has cut it into tiny pieces, its mileage is not
so good as that of Midas. Customers say that Midas Tractor trolley tyre designs are
compatible with region road conditions, mine design is very suitable for the road
conditions prevailing in this region. This suitability of the mine design makes Midas
retread tyre rubber more popular among the region customers. But, if we talk about the
Indag Truck retread tyre rubber, I come to know that it has good image in the region,
because of its competitive quality. Indag retread Truck tyre rubber has the quality of
competition with the Market leaders such as Midas etc. Its mileage is as good as that of
Midas retread tyre rubber. During my survey I also come to notice that customers are
not well known to the retread tyre rubber quality, they just follow to the shopkeeper
advice. Shopkeepers advise them that tyre rubber which fetch them more money
margin.

Indag Truck tyre rubber is of same quality that of main competitors
in the market, Truck owners directly approach to the Nalagarh Indag plant with their
Trucks. They get their retread tyre in very small time, a tyre sent in the morning get
retread in the evening. This save time and hence definitely help them in saving the
money loss, that’s why a very lengthy line of trucks can be seen along the road side of
this plant. It helps in creating good image of Indag Rubber Ltd Company in this region.
It’s a very praise worthy initial of the company to establish a good understanding
between Company and the customers and this will also enhance Company publicity in
this region.
Indag retreading process passes from the following
stages- Venting, Buffing, Skewing, Cementing, Repair, Filling, Tyre building, Tyre
assembling, Tyre curing, Final inspection and Painting. Using this retreading process
Company fixes different rubber designs on the tyre according to the road conditions and
to the customer demands.
The designs most preferably used by customers according to the suitability of road
conditions category vice is tabulated as below,

Final question that I asked in my questioner is- Are you planning to use Indag retread
tyre rubber in future? The purpose of asking this question was to know how many
persons are interested in continuing to use Indag retread tyre rubber. This question was
asked from the entire customers that uses different-2 companies service. Response
given by different customers is as below,

Indag rubber ltd Monthly tyre retread in ITC department as bellow:
Months Number of Tyre
January 188
February 215
March 230
April 234
May 313
This data shows that every month there is increase in the number of tyre for the
retreadment in Indag rubber limited, it means there is increase in the reliability of
customers towards Indag. Indag Truck retread tyre rubber segment have grown up to a
level, number of new Truck customers is increasing day to day. I give its credit to the
combined effort of Indag team in this sector. They got success to attract customers and
to convince them to use Indag retread tyre rubber.
This graph indicates that there is continues growth in the number of retread tyre. From
January to February increase in number of retread tyre users is 27, from February to
March this number increased to 15, from March to April to 4 and from April to May
number of retread tyre users increased to 79. So in April to May there is sharp increase
in graph that means a highest number of retread tyre compare to previous months. In
recent month that is June this number is expected to cross above this highest number. If
this growth continues to grow in the same way as shown in graph, it will fetch more
profit to the company and company goodwill towards the customers.

in healthy demand for retread tyres in the future.
 Excellent brand equity of Indian cross ply / bias truck tyres in the world
market can open market opportunities for export of truck and passenger car radial
retread tyres.
 Emergence of India as a hub for production of small cars is expected to
give a thrust to auto component and retread tyre segment.
 Improved road infrastructure - especially on NH-21 Highway project will result in
significant increase in movement of goods and passenger traffic through roads with
resultant growth in demand for tyres.
 Consolidate market position in LCV & car tyre segment.
 Radialisation in commercial vehicle segment.
Threats:
 Rising cost of raw materials, especially natural rubber in the international as well as
domestic mark.
 Competition in manufacturing from multinationals setting up new facilities in
the country or region.
 Concessional import tariffs for countries like China and South K orea under
Regional Trade Agreements could lead to stiff competition on prices.
 Rupee appreciation could lead to lower export realisation.
 With improvements of roads, usage pattern of tyres may change from Cross Ply to
Radials, which will involve substantial investment in plant and machinery for expanding
Radial facility.
 Cheap imports from China and Far East
 Upward trend in natural rubber prices
Recommendations/Suggestions
Basic Understanding
There are some very basic understandings in the retread tyre industry, that I always kept in mind
throughout my recommendations and which I feel is utmost essential to keep in mind before
formulating any kind of strategies by the company. These understandings are: A tyre for the
truck owners, bus owners and tractor owners are very important because if their vehicle is not
working then they have to face a lot of loss. Some vehicles owners says that if their vehicle not
works due to delay in the delivery of retread tyre it automatic generate tension in the mind, due
to this reason, they often says that running vehicle is less expensive than standing one. If rubber
of retreaded tyre not properly sticks with tyre it will surely reduce mileage than the minimum
distance promised by the company after retreadment. This will not only be responsible for the
wastage of time hence also money of tyre owner, but will also cast an adverse impact on the
customer view point towards the retreadment reliability. I have mentioned below some factors
that influence customer interest to purchase a particular brand of retread tyre rubber:
 Mileage
 Originally equipped manufacture
 Price
 Retread rubber quality
 Which company retread rubber
 Aesthetics
Although not many of the customers accept the above factors as being their motivational factors
for purchasing a particular brand of tyre. In reality these are some of the conceive purchasing
forces driving a customer’s choice for a tyre. I confirmed this statement only after talking to a
number of puncture shop keepers and owners of different vehicles.
Promotions:
There is an urgent need of aggressive promotion of retread tyre rubber for tractor owners because
nobody has given in reality a positive response to tractor customers especially working in mining
area. These customers are not happy to use Indag retread rubber tyre. So it’s company
responsibility to upgrade the tractor trolley tyre rubber to meet the road condition challenges up
to the customer expectations. Though promotional task by Indag for the Truck retread tyre
rubber have gained a positive response, still one should be very proactive so as to lead its
competitors. In these promotional activities the puncture shop keeper and truck union leaders
should also be targeted since they are one of the biggest influencing forces for the end users, as
far as word of mouth awareness among the consumers is concerned. These are the people who
generally advice the users for using a particular brand of retread tyre. It’s not at all tough to build
an image with such people, all they need is a little attention and some tangible incentives.
Better after sales service:
Many service managers were not satisfied with the response that their clients get from the retread
rubber tyre companies. For instance they cited many instances in which the retread rubber tyre
company refused to replace the retread tyres putting the blame back on the customers. This
creates a bad image for the company. This results in loosing not only that particular customer but
also many others which the customer may influence.
The company should take extreme caution while evaluating such complaints. It is also
recommended to reduce the time taken for handling such complaints. The company should build
up its image by regularly holding company and end customer meets.
Use of information Technology:
Company computerizes billing process is beneficial for company and customers
because if any complaint coming from customer side, it will immediately tell customers
name and all other informations available on storage device such that on which date
tyre retread, tyre number, how many time tyre retread, which design pattern was used
for tyre, price of retread pattern used etc. So all information stored in computer storage
system is very beneficial for company and customer to avoid any future conflict between
the both. So using this billing process saves time and makes easy availability of any
information in one click of mouse, also on one side of computerized bill we can
advertise company’s new services about which company want to aware the customer.
Mileage and quality:
Mileage and quality of the retread tyre is the most important, so Indag rubber ltd.
company must give priority to improve upon them.
Sale Team:
The company need to motivate the front line sales person to be able to get important
information about the market, because they are the people who are in direct touch with
the market, they should be advised to give a weekly report to the regional office as to
the latest updates on the market development taking place in the market and also the
emerging needs of the consumers. This would help the company to be in touch with the
latest happenings in the market and also will be able to take necessary action at the
appropriate time.
Limitations of the project
 The limitations inherent in secondary data are bound to exist in the research as
well.
 The primary data has been collected from the transport areas of Nalagarh region.
 The sample size for each category of retread tyre is 50. The accuracy of result is
bound to increase with the increment in the sample size.
 The study has been conducted in the Nalagarh, Baddi region and it scope is
limited to Nalagarh, Baddi region only and must not be used to derive
conclusions for over all India or Himachal Pradesh.
 The primary data has been collected during the working hours and as such
reveal the result in its limits.
 Without knowing of local language it is difficult to fill Questionnaire because these
puncture shop keeper are not know proper in any language.
 Time limit is one of the factors because I collected all of data within SIP training
and have to give report to company and my Institute within the specified time, so
I could not be able to interact with more customers.
 Indag rubber Ltd. first time retread Tractor back tyre. To collect information about
the customers satisfaction in this regard was very exciting to me, but time limit of
my SIP report completion not allow me to take feedback of customer about the
retread tyre.
 Most of customers did not have any idea of cold retreading, so first of all I have to
explain to them about it and then after that they respond about it.
Learning
Spending about two months in Indag Rubber Ltd. has been a great learning experience. This has
been a real educative time, when I learned many things about the retread rubber industry, but I
cannot deny the fact that this is only the tip of an iceberg.
This project helped me a lot in enhancing my skills and personality. I, being a Science Graduate
and have some knowledge about technical aspects but this training gave new dimensions to my
knowledge. This was such an unexplainable experience, which took me to the market itself and
helped me understand the basic things of marketing. Among the many experiences I had during
my work in the organization, I have tried to list here a few:
 Organization has made me understand an important fact that there is a complete
attitudinal change required when we shift from our education institutes to the corporate
world for two month SIP training. When I step into this world, I am held responsible for
the work that is in our profile or has been delegated to us. Despite all this I require to be
in a completely different frame of mind where I stand who should be ready always to take
charge of the situations and present practical solutions to the problems that arise.
 Another corporate dimension of importance is leadership, be it formal or informal. I often
will have to take ourselves as leaders in work situations, even if I am interacting with our
superiors. Thus cultivating leadership traits and maintaining the high spirit of learning is
always advantageous. There will be situations in which I would be required to take
decisions and lead to solutions. At these junctures these two things would be of great
help.
 Equally important are the corporate presentations whose importance can’t be
overemphasized. People in the marketing division need to be ready with these always.
Everything has to be just perfect.
 Information, the key ingredient of the business world plays a very crucial role in all the
fields of marketing. There is a proper and formal way of gathering information in the
corporate world, which involves standard procedures to be followed. Market information
and awareness for upcoming and future opportunities and threats is to be obtained from
any possible source and further needs to be updated.
 Organizational culture is one part of the corporate life that needs to be understood and
adapted to when one becomes a part of an organization. Indag Rubber Ltd. I have a
culture where the people are goal oriented and have to meet the deadlines whatever may
come in between. A highly focused environment prevails all around where the approach
is still very traditional and the people over there make you feel as a part of their team.
 Most of time I go along with marketing team into field where I see how they attract with
customer and how handle it.
 First exciting thing is that, where I completed my SIP, there is manufacture plant and also
have marketing work. So I properly explained to customer whatever they asked me about
product. For example, what is cold retreading and which process is used for rubber tyre
retreading, who is better than other? So I explain all the things which customer wants to
know. This could be possible because I was known to the practical process of rubber tyre
cold retreading. My knowledge of tyre retreadment was not bookish, this helped me a lot
in properly explaining the actual retreadment process to customers.
 During my SIP stay in the Indag Rubber Ltd., I come to know how to work in the group
with team spirit. I learn how to cooperate with colleagues and work in constructive
manner so as to tackle the problem jointly. This joint effort is very fruitful for very early
solution to the problem.
 I acknowledge that marketing is not only the thing that depends on the publicity of
product but also on the quality of product and the skill of staff, though to acknowledge
the customer about the new product is also of paramount importance. This I came to
know from an incident told to me by the Indag Rubber Ltd. ITC department- when
problem of repeated complaints about the retread rubber tyre get sorted out by replacing
another skilled person. So it is important right job for right person.
 During my field survey I understand the importance of regular company and customer
interaction so that company must know timely what is the required thing that must be
improved and the new business strategies needed to adopt. With the time elapse it is
needed to change the product quality according to the new technology that sort out the
deficiency of the product. We must be aware about the business strategy (e.g. discounts
and changes in the technology or improvements) of the market competitors, so that we
can take a necessary action to improve our self in terms of business strategies and time
improvement demands to make a constant establishment in the market.
 To become a market leader company should have spirit to improve itself in each and
every product. During my survey of Indag Rubber Ltd., I found that truck retread tyre
rubber is well competing with other market rivals, but in case of Tractor trolley retread
tyre rubber, Company is not at the level of competition. The lagging behind of tractor
trolley tyre quality was affecting the whole company image. So company should be
perfect in respect to all its market launched products.
 Organizational change is one aspect that I have experienced in all around the company.
Probably that is because Indag rubber ltd. is a fast growing company and it has grown
manifolds in the few years. There are many success stories to support this fact. Indag
Rubber Ltd. is establishing itself in the market in very short time, by competing with
other already well established companies in this field, I give this credit to the spirit of
organizational change of Indag Rubber Ltd.
 Collection of appropriate data is one of the tasks of paramount importance in proactivity
strategy of any company. Analysis of intelligently collected data helps in taking decision
in advance, on which company’s future plans depend. An intelligently collected data will
provide information in advance, what is beneficial for company future growth, e.g. an
expansion of any company in particular sector depends on the future demands.

To make the quality of its product best the company is concentrating on improving the technology and also the process of manufacturing very simple. The company has completed an expansion of its manufacturing plant at Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh. As a result of this expansion, the monthly production capacity of Precured Tread Rubber of the plant stands now at around 1200 tons a month, besides over 1800 tons of uncured rubber gum. This expansion was completed in a record time enabling the company to avail the benefits of excise etc. on the increased production for nearly next five years. Company was manufacturing to capacity and still not able to meet the demand of all the customers. The increase in capacity because of expansion would now allow company to meet this demand.

The main ones and the steps undertaken to mitigate these risks are mentioned below, * Financial risk: Credit risk on account of material supplied to customers has been mitigated to a large extent by insisting on large number of parties to pay in advance before supplies are made. In the case of others PDC's are taken against supplies. The risk of delayed payment from STU's is controlled and managed by rigorous follow-up. * Increase in price of raw materials: Normal increase in prices of raw materials is generally factored while fixing product prices to the customers. Unexpected increases however do affect profitability till prices are revised to meet the costs. In case of fixed price contracts unprecedented increase in raw material prices have serious impact on margins. * Changes in government policies: Changes in government policies can at times materially affect company's financial position or investments. There is little that can be done about it. * Operational risk: Preventive maintenance is carried out to achieve high level of machine availability. Adequate inventory of stocks at each stage of operation is maintained to keep production going on in case of any breakdown.

  • 13. Working Methodology Descriptive Research The aim of research is to search out the truth which has not been disclosed till yet and also is to find the solution of the problems by means of scientific techniques. During my survey, I have tried to find out reason of less preference of using Indag retread rubber tyre as compared to other competitors in Nalagarh region. Sampling Process Population Element: The research was conducted on the people who are currently using retread rubber on tyre of different companies like Indag, Midas, JK and LG. Sample size: The total sample size consists of 50 customers. Sampling Method:- Non Probability: The customers were randomly selected according to convenience and the data was collected from them by going to the different shops that fit and remove vehicle tyre, I also meet to owners of Truck and Tractor. Data Collection: For the research purpose the data is collected in the form of Primary data and Secondary data.  Primary data is collected in the form of Structured Questionnaire.  Secondary data is collected from Website, Newspaper and Boucher’s. Primary Data:- Primary data is collected through direct interviews with the customers who are using retread rubber and puncture shopkeepers who send tyre to the plant for retreading. These puncture shop keeper connect with retread tyre agent especially to those who give some discount per tyre. The data has been collected on the basis of the requirement of the research. Questionnaire has been prepared to complete objectives of the research.
  • 14. Secondary data:- Secondary data is collected from various website, Newspaper and company Boucher. Some of the websites referred is as follow www.google.com www.indagrubber.com www.midasrubber.com www.jktyre.com Major finding: There are a large number of retread tyre rubber users. Most demand is for Truck and Tractor retread tyre rubber, this demand is because of huge number of industries in Nalagarh region. Basically all industries are manufacturing unit so need transportation for supplying goods to different parts of country, for the fulfillment of this purpose a lot of trucks are needed. In this region tractors are use basically for mining work. Tractors need to run on and off road conditions. From above one can conclude that there is lot of scope for retread rubber industry in this region. I found from the analysis of collected data, Midas is big competitor in this region. Midas captures almost all retread tyre rubber market in Nalagarh, Chokiwala and Baddi region, but Jhiriwala, Panjhare, Gulabpura, Joghon, Baruna and Baghari market has been more captured by Indag. Ninety percent of Tractor trolley retread tyre rubber, especially in case of Tractors used for mining prefers to Midas retread rubber, this is the due to the special design pattern availability to Midas Pvt. Ltd. Indag Tractor trolley retread tyre rubber decays just as if mouse has cut it into small pieces. Customer says that Midas retreated tyre have more mileage, their delivery of retread tyre is more quick, Midas retailer have good margin and have more efficient trolley tyre rubber design pattern as compare to Indag. It is exciting to note that markets in this region where Midas has good hold no Indag sale man has visited to these market yet. Customer complaints that tyre which have been rejected for the retreadment by the Indag, Midas retread those tyre.
  • 15. (Bias-12-00-20-12-00-24) More than ninety percent Tractor trolley tyre use Midas tyre design pattern shown above. This design is at high demand in market. Puncture shop keeper when asked why don’t use Indag retreaded tyre, complaints that Indag don’t have this design pattern.
  • 16. Analysis In the questionnaire respondent was asked to fill their occupation to know that customers with what occupation prefer retread tyre. Occupation of the retread tyre users Number of users Puncture shop keeper 28 Truck owners 12 Tractor owner 10 Out of 50 samples 28 are Puncture shop keeper, 12 are Truck owners and 10 are Tractor owners. Above samples include retread tyre rubber users not only of that of Indag, but also that of other companies such as Midas, JK, LG etc. I ask them about services, mileage, satisfaction level, their view about product quality and future uses. All customers responded well and frequently told about the product which they use.
  • 17. Interpretation of the data: Out of 50 respondents 28 respondents are Puncture shop keeper, 12 respondents are Truck owner and 10 respondents are Tractor owner who are using different-2 company retread tyre rubber. Above pie graph shows that out of total number of samples collected 56% Puncture shop keeper, 24% Truck owner and 20% Tractor owner are using retread rubber. Puncture shop 56% Truck owner 24% Tractor owner 20% Number of user of retread Tyre
  • 18. Which retread rubber tyre does the customer prefer and who is the major competitor for the Indag Rubber Ltd. Retread rubber Tyre used by the respondents Number of the respondents Midas 35 Indag 14 JK 04 Others 03
  • 19. Out of 50 respondents 35 respondents are using Midas, 14 are using Indag, 4 are using JK and 3 are using others. Some customers are using three companies services and some are using two at a time. I have skipped those cases that were using Midas services along with Indag at the same time, because Midas is a market leader in this region. Data showing the distance covered by vehicle after retread of tyre is tabulated as Distance range(KMs) Number of vehicles 0-15000 00 15000-30000 01 30000-45000 24 >45000 25 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 Midas Indag JK Others Number of users Number of users
  • 20. From above graph we can see that most of vehicles after retread of tyre cover more than 45,000 Kms. All most all vehicles cover a distance of more than 15,000 Kms after retread of their tyre. Data collected in respect of respondent satisfaction level is as follows. Satisfaction level of the customers Number of respondents Yes 46 No 04 Out of the 50 respondents 46 respondents are satisfied with the mileage of retread tyre, but 4 respondents are not satisfied with the retread tyre mileage, because of having no vehicle tyre mileage in accordance to the company promised tyre mileage. 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 0-15000 kms 15000-30000 kms 30000-45000 kms >45000 kms Number of vehicles Number of vehicles
  • 21. Awareness about the Indag retread tyre rubber product: Awareness about the Indag retread tyre rubber Number of respondents Yes 46 No 04 The respondents were asked whether they are aware of Indag rubber ltd retread tyre or not. In that I came to know that all most all the customers are aware of Indag retread tyre rubber. Customers who are already using retread rubber tyre of Indag competitors like Midas etc. are not ready to replace it with Indag, because of their better services and good quality of rubber. It has also been complaint by Indag users that retread rubber decays as if mouse has cut it into small pieces. Yes 92% No 8% Satisfaction level of the respondents
  • 22. From above graph it is clear that 92% of respondents are aware of the Indag retread tyre rubber but about 8% of the totals considered respondents are not aware about it, unawareness could be due to no visit of sales man to them. Indag Company is the first which introduced cold retreading first time in India. I have collected information about the awareness of cold retreading. This information can be tabulated as Awareness about the cold retreading Number of respondents Yes 24 No 26 0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 Yes No Awarenessabout Indag retread tyre rubber Awareness about Indag retread tyre rubber
  • 23. 48% customers in the area I surveyed are aware of the cold retreading and 52% of these are not aware about it. I understand that customers do not have the knowledge of the benefits of cold retreading. A survey after interaction with customers acknowledges us that, Indag retread tyre rubber users are not fully satisfied with the retread work as the Midas customers are. All most all customers who are using Indag retread Tractor trolley tyre rubber complaint that retread rubber decays so as if a mouse has cut it into tiny pieces, its mileage is not so good as that of Midas. Customers say that Midas Tractor trolley tyre designs are compatible with region road conditions, mine design is very suitable for the road conditions prevailing in this region. This suitability of the mine design makes Midas retread tyre rubber more popular among the region customers. But, if we talk about the Indag Truck retread tyre rubber, I come to know that it has good image in the region, because of its competitive quality. Indag retread Truck tyre rubber has the quality of competition with the Market leaders such as Midas etc. Its mileage is as good as that of Midas retread tyre rubber. During my survey I also come to notice that customers are not well known to the retread tyre rubber quality, they just follow to the shopkeeper advice. Shopkeepers advise them that tyre rubber which fetch them more money margin. 23 23.5 24 24.5 25 25.5 26 26.5 Yes No Awarenessabout cold retread tyre rubber Awareness about cold retread tyre rubber
  • 24. Indag Truck tyre rubber is of same quality that of main competitors in the market, Truck owners directly approach to the Nalagarh Indag plant with their Trucks. They get their retread tyre in very small time, a tyre sent in the morning get retread in the evening. This save time and hence definitely help them in saving the money loss, that’s why a very lengthy line of trucks can be seen along the road side of this plant. It helps in creating good image of Indag Rubber Ltd Company in this region. It’s a very praise worthy initial of the company to establish a good understanding between Company and the customers and this will also enhance Company publicity in this region. Indag retreading process passes from the following stages- Venting, Buffing, Skewing, Cementing, Repair, Filling, Tyre building, Tyre assembling, Tyre curing, Final inspection and Painting. Using this retreading process Company fixes different rubber designs on the tyre according to the road conditions and to the customer demands. The designs most preferably used by customers according to the suitability of road conditions category vice is tabulated as below, Tread Patterns Design Name For Highway HWR, XMR For Hill Area ZXL For Tractor Trolley 8LL, EXL Radial ZZA1, ZZA2 Final question that I asked in my questioner is- Are you planning to use Indag retread tyre rubber in future? The purpose of asking this question was to know how many persons are interested in continuing to use Indag retread tyre rubber. This question was
  • 25. asked from the entire customers that uses different-2 companies service. Response given by different customers is as below, Respondents interested of using Indag retread tyre rubber in future Number of respondents Yes 18 No 32 In the above data 18 customers are interested in using Indag retread tyre rubber in future and 32 are not interested using they satisfied with own brand which using retread rubber tyre. The above data become clearer when we plot the pie chart that is shown below Yes 36% No 64% Future users of Indag retread rubber tyre
  • 26. 14 respondents were already using Indag services, 18 respondents out of 50 shown their interest of using Indag service in future, which is a positive response to the Indag services. Interestingly some of those Truck retread tyre rubber users who were regular user of other brands have shown their interest to use Indag in future. In the above pie chart we can see that 36% respondents are interested of using Indag services in future, but 64% were saying that they had no interested in Indag service in the future. Indag Truck retread tyre rubber segment have grown up to a level, number of new Truck customers is increasing day to day. I give its credit to the combined effort of Indag team in this sector. They got success to attract customers and to convince them to use Indag retread tyre rubber.

From January to February increase in number of retread tyre users is 27, from February to March this number increased to 15, from March to April to 4 and from April to May number of retread tyre users increased to 79. So in April to May there is sharp increase in graph that means a highest number of retread tyre compare to previous months. In recent month that is June this number is expected to cross above this highest number. If this growth continues to grow in the same way as shown in graph, it will fetch more profit to the company and company goodwill towards the customers. • 33.  Excellent brand equity of Indian cross ply / bias truck tyres in the world market can open market opportunities for export of truck and passenger car radial retread tyres.  Emergence of India as a hub for production of small cars is expected to give a thrust to auto component and retread tyre segment.  Improved road infrastructure - especially on NH-21 Highway project will result in significant increase in movement of goods and passenger traffic through roads with resultant growth in demand for tyres.  Consolidate market position in LCV & car tyre segment.  Radialisation in commercial vehicle segment. Threats:  Rising cost of raw materials, especially natural rubber in the international as well as domestic mark.  Competition in manufacturing from multinationals setting up new facilities in the country or region.  Concessional import tariffs for countries like China and South K orea under Regional Trade Agreements could lead to stiff competition on prices.  Rupee appreciation could lead to lower export realisation.
  • 34.  With improvements of roads, usage pattern of tyres may change from Cross Ply to Radials, which will involve substantial investment in plant and machinery for expanding Radial facility.  Cheap imports from China and Far East  Upward trend in natural rubber prices
  • 35. Recommendations/Suggestions Basic Understanding There are some very basic understandings in the retread tyre industry, that I always kept in mind throughout my recommendations and which I feel is utmost essential to keep in mind before formulating any kind of strategies by the company. These understandings are: A tyre for the truck owners, bus owners and tractor owners are very important because if their vehicle is not working then they have to face a lot of loss. Some vehicles owners says that if their vehicle not works due to delay in the delivery of retread tyre it automatic generate tension in the mind, due to this reason, they often says that running vehicle is less expensive than standing one. If rubber of retreaded tyre not properly sticks with tyre it will surely reduce mileage than the minimum distance promised by the company after retreadment. This will not only be responsible for the wastage of time hence also money of tyre owner, but will also cast an adverse impact on the customer view point towards the retreadment reliability. I have mentioned below some factors that influence customer interest to purchase a particular brand of retread tyre rubber:  Mileage  Originally equipped manufacture  Price  Retread rubber quality  Which company retread rubber  Aesthetics Although not many of the customers accept the above factors as being their motivational factors for purchasing a particular brand of tyre. In reality these are some of the conceive purchasing forces driving a customer’s choice for a tyre. I confirmed this statement only after talking to a number of puncture shop keepers and owners of different vehicles. Promotions: There is an urgent need of aggressive promotion of retread tyre rubber for tractor owners because nobody has given in reality a positive response to tractor customers especially working in mining area. These customers are not happy to use Indag retread rubber tyre. So it’s company responsibility to upgrade the tractor trolley tyre rubber to meet the road condition challenges up
  • 36. to the customer expectations. Though promotional task by Indag for the Truck retread tyre rubber have gained a positive response, still one should be very proactive so as to lead its competitors. In these promotional activities the puncture shop keeper and truck union leaders should also be targeted since they are one of the biggest influencing forces for the end users, as far as word of mouth awareness among the consumers is concerned. These are the people who generally advice the users for using a particular brand of retread tyre. It’s not at all tough to build an image with such people, all they need is a little attention and some tangible incentives. Better after sales service: Many service managers were not satisfied with the response that their clients get from the retread rubber tyre companies. For instance they cited many instances in which the retread rubber tyre company refused to replace the retread tyres putting the blame back on the customers. This creates a bad image for the company. This results in loosing not only that particular customer but also many others which the customer may influence. The company should take extreme caution while evaluating such complaints. It is also recommended to reduce the time taken for handling such complaints. The company should build up its image by regularly holding company and end customer meets. Use of information Technology: Company computerizes billing process is beneficial for company and customers because if any complaint coming from customer side, it will immediately tell customers name and all other informations available on storage device such that on which date tyre retread, tyre number, how many time tyre retread, which design pattern was used for tyre, price of retread pattern used etc. So all information stored in computer storage system is very beneficial for company and customer to avoid any future conflict between the both. So using this billing process saves time and makes easy availability of any information in one click of mouse, also on one side of computerized bill we can advertise company’s new services about which company want to aware the customer. Mileage and quality: Mileage and quality of the retread tyre is the most important, so Indag rubber ltd. company must give priority to improve upon them. Sale Team: The company need to motivate the front line sales person to be able to get important information about the market, because they are the people who are in direct touch with the market, they should be advised to give a weekly report to the regional office as to the latest updates on the market development taking place in the market and also the emerging needs of the consumers. This would help the company to be in touch with the
  • 37. latest happenings in the market and also will be able to take necessary action at the appropriate time.
  • 38. Limitations of the project  The limitations inherent in secondary data are bound to exist in the research as well.  The primary data has been collected from the transport areas of Nalagarh region.  The sample size for each category of retread tyre is 50. The accuracy of result is bound to increase with the increment in the sample size.  The study has been conducted in the Nalagarh, Baddi region and it scope is limited to Nalagarh, Baddi region only and must not be used to derive conclusions for over all India or Himachal Pradesh.  The primary data has been collected during the working hours and as such reveal the result in its limits.  Without knowing of local language it is difficult to fill Questionnaire because these puncture shop keeper are not know proper in any language.  Time limit is one of the factors because I collected all of data within SIP training and have to give report to company and my Institute within the specified time, so I could not be able to interact with more customers.  Indag rubber Ltd. first time retread Tractor back tyre. To collect information about the customers satisfaction in this regard was very exciting to me, but time limit of my SIP report completion not allow me to take feedback of customer about the retread tyre.  Most of customers did not have any idea of cold retreading, so first of all I have to explain to them about it and then after that they respond about it.
  • 39. Learning Spending about two months in Indag Rubber Ltd. has been a great learning experience. This has been a real educative time, when I learned many things about the retread rubber industry, but I cannot deny the fact that this is only the tip of an iceberg. This project helped me a lot in enhancing my skills and personality. I, being a Science Graduate and have some knowledge about technical aspects but this training gave new dimensions to my knowledge. This was such an unexplainable experience, which took me to the market itself and helped me understand the basic things of marketing. Among the many experiences I had during my work in the organization, I have tried to list here a few:  Organization has made me understand an important fact that there is a complete attitudinal change required when we shift from our education institutes to the corporate world for two month SIP training. When I step into this world, I am held responsible for the work that is in our profile or has been delegated to us. Despite all this I require to be in a completely different frame of mind where I stand who should be ready always to take charge of the situations and present practical solutions to the problems that arise.  Another corporate dimension of importance is leadership, be it formal or informal. I often will have to take ourselves as leaders in work situations, even if I am interacting with our superiors. Thus cultivating leadership traits and maintaining the high spirit of learning is always advantageous. There will be situations in which I would be required to take decisions and lead to solutions. At these junctures these two things would be of great help.  Equally important are the corporate presentations whose importance can’t be overemphasized. People in the marketing division need to be ready with these always. Everything has to be just perfect.  Information, the key ingredient of the business world plays a very crucial role in all the fields of marketing. There is a proper and formal way of gathering information in the corporate world, which involves standard procedures to be followed. Market information and awareness for upcoming and future opportunities and threats is to be obtained from any possible source and further needs to be updated.
  • 40.  Organizational culture is one part of the corporate life that needs to be understood and adapted to when one becomes a part of an organization. Indag Rubber Ltd. I have a culture where the people are goal oriented and have to meet the deadlines whatever may come in between. A highly focused environment prevails all around where the approach is still very traditional and the people over there make you feel as a part of their team.  Most of time I go along with marketing team into field where I see how they attract with customer and how handle it.  First exciting thing is that, where I completed my SIP, there is manufacture plant and also have marketing work. So I properly explained to customer whatever they asked me about product. For example, what is cold retreading and which process is used for rubber tyre retreading, who is better than other? So I explain all the things which customer wants to know. This could be possible because I was known to the practical process of rubber tyre cold retreading. My knowledge of tyre retreadment was not bookish, this helped me a lot in properly explaining the actual retreadment process to customers.  During my SIP stay in the Indag Rubber Ltd., I come to know how to work in the group with team spirit. I learn how to cooperate with colleagues and work in constructive manner so as to tackle the problem jointly. This joint effort is very fruitful for very early solution to the problem.  I acknowledge that marketing is not only the thing that depends on the publicity of product but also on the quality of product and the skill of staff, though to acknowledge the customer about the new product is also of paramount importance. This I came to know from an incident told to me by the Indag Rubber Ltd. ITC department- when problem of repeated complaints about the retread rubber tyre get sorted out by replacing another skilled person. So it is important right job for right person.  During my field survey I understand the importance of regular company and customer interaction so that company must know timely what is the required thing that must be improved and the new business strategies needed to adopt. With the time elapse it is
  • 41. needed to change the product quality according to the new technology that sort out the deficiency of the product. We must be aware about the business strategy (e.g. discounts and changes in the technology or improvements) of the market competitors, so that we can take a necessary action to improve our self in terms of business strategies and time improvement demands to make a constant establishment in the market.  To become a market leader company should have spirit to improve itself in each and every product. During my survey of Indag Rubber Ltd., I found that truck retread tyre rubber is well competing with other market rivals, but in case of Tractor trolley retread tyre rubber, Company is not at the level of competition. The lagging behind of tractor trolley tyre quality was affecting the whole company image. So company should be perfect in respect to all its market launched products.  Organizational change is one aspect that I have experienced in all around the company. Probably that is because Indag rubber ltd. is a fast growing company and it has grown manifolds in the few years. There are many success stories to support this fact. Indag Rubber Ltd. is establishing itself in the market in very short time, by competing with other already well established companies in this field, I give this credit to the spirit of organizational change of Indag Rubber Ltd.  Collection of appropriate data is one of the tasks of paramount importance in proactivity strategy of any company. Analysis of intelligently collected data helps in taking decision in advance, on which company’s future plans depend. An intelligently collected data will provide information in advance, what is beneficial for company future growth, e.g. an expansion of any company in particular sector depends on the future demands.
