Alfabetización tecnológica, acceso y uso de internet de estudiantes 
universitarios de inglés
Introduction 
From years ago, education-related organizations have established policies 
seeking to incorporate technologies (OECD, 1994, UNESCO, 1998, SEP, 
2006) to education systems. However, little has been investigated concerning 
the performance of these policies on learning. Under this theme, it is 
convenient to analyze the situation of students about this and reflect on the 
impact of ICT on learning.
• What´s the author´s main argument? 
 This paper details a descriptive study that sought to determine the 
technological literacy, access and use of internet and its relationship with 
socioeconomic factors in 200 English students in introductory level from 
UQRoo, campus Chetumal. 
 The results indicated that participants had a basic level of literacy and the 
greater the skill required, the lower the degree of competition.. 
• What evidence does the author put forward to support the argument 
and conclusion? 
 He analyzed researches on technological literacy and categorized them 
according to the variable to which they were related. 
 The theoretical analysis was started from the perspective of Van Dijk 
(2005). 
 In this work it was determined that the level of technological literacy 
decreased with higher degree of skill required. This assertion is 
supported with previous researches which he cites in his work.
What is your view of this evidence? 
 I think this research is supported by the evidence showed in previous 
researches and substantiated by the theory of Van Dijk. This investigation 
seemed well structured from introduction to final conclusions that are 
supported by the findings in the investigation and the literature review. 
Can you spot any weaknesses in the methodology, the findings and the 
way the conclusions are drawn? 
In my particular point of view, one of the shortcomings of the study is that it is 
only limited to determine the link between the variables and the 
socioeconomic characteristics of the students. However, I think the factors 
that influence the level of technological literacy of students are located on 
more important elements as: 
 The availability of a computer 
 The schooling 
 The interest of students for academic purposes. 
.
Has the author made any implicit assumptions about shared 
beliefs which you, the reader, you might question? 
 This research did not submit any personal opinion or belief by the 
author. The researcher supported his views with accurate 
information related to the subject (Literature review and theories), 
which are available in the reference section of the research. In my 
point of view, the author made good use of information to support 
his opinion there is why problems could not be found.

  • 1. Alfabetización tecnológica, acceso y uso de internet de estudiantes universitarios de inglés
  • 2. Introduction From years ago, education-related organizations have established policies seeking to incorporate technologies (OECD, 1994, UNESCO, 1998, SEP, 2006) to education systems. However, little has been investigated concerning the performance of these policies on learning. Under this theme, it is convenient to analyze the situation of students about this and reflect on the impact of ICT on learning.
  • 3. • What´s the author´s main argument?  This paper details a descriptive study that sought to determine the technological literacy, access and use of internet and its relationship with socioeconomic factors in 200 English students in introductory level from UQRoo, campus Chetumal.  The results indicated that participants had a basic level of literacy and the greater the skill required, the lower the degree of competition.. • What evidence does the author put forward to support the argument and conclusion?  He analyzed researches on technological literacy and categorized them according to the variable to which they were related.  The theoretical analysis was started from the perspective of Van Dijk (2005).  In this work it was determined that the level of technological literacy decreased with higher degree of skill required. This assertion is supported with previous researches which he cites in his work.
  • 4. What is your view of this evidence?  I think this research is supported by the evidence showed in previous researches and substantiated by the theory of Van Dijk. This investigation seemed well structured from introduction to final conclusions that are supported by the findings in the investigation and the literature review. Can you spot any weaknesses in the methodology, the findings and the way the conclusions are drawn? In my particular point of view, one of the shortcomings of the study is that it is only limited to determine the link between the variables and the socioeconomic characteristics of the students. However, I think the factors that influence the level of technological literacy of students are located on more important elements as:  The availability of a computer  The schooling  The interest of students for academic purposes. .
  • 5. Has the author made any implicit assumptions about shared beliefs which you, the reader, you might question?  This research did not submit any personal opinion or belief by the author. The researcher supported his views with accurate information related to the subject (Literature review and theories), which are available in the reference section of the research. In my point of view, the author made good use of information to support his opinion there is why problems could not be found.
