Technology is EVERYWHERE

 Technology is an integral part of modern day life. It
  is a driving force of our nation’s
  economy, communication, and overall success.
 Students use many different forms of technology in
  their everyday lives, and schools must embrace this
  technology, and in turn integrate it into the
  classroom
“True” Integration

 Occurs when technology is implemented in all
 aspects of a school.
    Not limited to teacher direction
    Or teacher “managerial” use only
 Occurs in schools that have principals that are the
 technology leaders of their school.
To be the Technology Leader…

The Principal must…
 Create an inspiring atmosphere
 Foster collaboration
 Be a connected learner
 Provide resources
Inspiring Atmosphere

 Be open to new ideas
 Be willing to change current policies
 Provide technology based professional development
 Take risks
Foster Collaboration

 Teaching should not be an isolated profession
 Through face to face meetings as well as digital
  communication
 Create a technology group/ committee
    Include teachers, parents, and student to expand collaboration
Be a Connected Learner

 “Practice what you teach”
 Model the use of technology for everyday functions
 Know the hardware and software that teachers are
  expected to implement
 Do not be afraid to “not know”
Provide Resources

 Technology must be budgetary priority
 Ensure that technology is up to date and in good
  working condition
 Look for products with lasting application
 Do not focus on “fad” devices or software
More about $$

 Look for grants to help cover the expenses of new
  hardware/ software
 Collaborate with other schools in the district to share
  technology personnel
 When making purchases: Ensure that technology
  support the curriculum not curriculum supporting
  technology.

    Leading Principals, Jennifer Demski states that,
“It's the principal's job to get everybody in the
  school involved and invested in a new vision
    for the school and to demonstrate to them
             that their input is valued.”
