DEATH DATE: August 17, 1850
He left his mother country at the early age of
seven to study in Málaga, Spain.
On 12 July 1821, after seizing partial control of
Lima, San Martín was appointed Protector of Peru,
and Peruvian independence was officially declared
on July 28.
The prime leader of the southern part of South
America's successful struggle for independence
from the Spanish Empire.

At dawn on the 28th, 21 cannons are released.
The houses, public and private institutions, schools, display the flag.
About the President, he goes to the Te Deum Mass, later in the

Government Palace.
10. The Great Military Parade
• In this ceremony the Peruvian Armed Forces and National
Police participate in a grand procession. Decorations are
placed throughout the main streets with patriotic colors
