Dr. Jitesh Jain discusses the widespread practice of calcium supplementation and the public belief that calcium is always good for health. However, the document notes that calcium and vitamin D supplements do not prevent fractures and calcium does not help fracture healing or joint pain. While a good diet with calcium-rich foods like dairy and exercises is important, extra calcium supplementation beyond what is get in a balanced diet is not necessarily for most people. Potential health risks of too much calcium intake include kidney stones, heart attacks, and prostate cancer. The doctor recommends a more natural approach of calcium from foods and weight-bearing exercises instead of supplements for bone health.
4. Calcium supplementation is a widespread
practice in different age-groups and has been
promoted widely to improve bone density.
The public generally believes that calcium is
always good for health, owing largely to
successful marketing and various clinical
practice guidelines

6. Calcium and vitamin D supplements don't
prevent fractures.
Calcium does not help in fracture union.
Not helpful in joint pain.
Even if you're being treated for osteoporosis,
taking extra calcium isn't absolutely necessary.
10. People wanting to put themselves on calcium
for the sake of keeping their bones strong, I
offer a more natural approach such as foods
high in calcium and weight-bearing exercises.
11. I also recommend they have their vitamin D levels
checked to make sure they are in the normal range.
12. 1. If you have sustained a bone fracture….Calcium or Vit
D supplementation is NOT GONNA HELP you!!!!
2. Young sportsmen, children and elderly don’t need
calcium supplements if they are taking sufficiently
from diet.
3. Don’t waste your time and money on buying costly
bone nutrients.
4. If you have enough sun exposure (i.e 1 hour of face
and hands exposure) or 15 minute of face, chest and
limbs exposure thrice a week, you don’t need Vit. D
supplementation.
