2. Why Earth?
• Earth has a long, vast history that goes
back billions of years.
• So far, Earth is the only planet that can
harbor life as we know it
3.
4. About Earth
It has one moon called the
Moon. Very original.
You could fit over 900,000
Earths in the Sun.
5. Seasons
On Earth, there are 4 seasons; winter, spring, summer, and fall.
The temperatures are usually warmer during spring and
summer, while they drop during fall and winter. This is due to
the position of orbit Earth is in.
6. Rotation and
RevolutionRotation is when a planet or moon turns all the way around or
spins on its axis one time. A revolution is how long it takes to
circle the Sun - one year.
Energy
When we get energy from the Sun, it’s from it’s light and heat. This is
due to nuclear fusion. There is a large amount of pressure at the Sun’s
core which presses 2 hydrogen atoms together to form a helium atom.
The process releases energy in the form of a photon (light).
7. Light Years
A light year is the distance that light travels in a vacuum in one year,
approximately 9.46 trillion (9.46 1012) kilometers or 5.88 trillion
(5.88 1012) miles.
The Earth has many different climates. If you are visiting a polar region, you will want to
bring warm clothes. If you are visiting somewhere close to the equator, dress lightly; it
will be hot! Good luck and enjoy your visit to Earth!
