1. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS
OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?
2. ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGIES I USED
There technologies I used enabled me to be extremely creative and helped my a lot to
portray certain things about the artist and address my target audience in a specific way.
Things such as the specific camera I used was very effective in showing the target
audience the type of facial expression my model is using and is very effective when I’m
using a long shot. For example I would use the flash tool on the camera, as lighting is very
effective when using professional cameras, I could also vary the focus of the camera so I
had a variety of shots to choose from.
Another thing that helped me was the use of Weebly to present my work on as this is
effective as is organised and it is easy to access and very simple to use. Another very
effective technology I used was the green room as the lighting in there turned out to be
very effective and also enabled me to have a variety of pictures to choose from, to
connote that ‘urban look’ to my target audience and persuade them to purchase the
magazine. The most effective form of technology I used was Photoshop as there was a
variety of tools to choose from such making the contrast of the picture, lowering the
opacity of the picture and even cropping certain parts of the image out. Without this
specific software making my media product would have been a lot harder and it definitely
wouldn’t be to the standard of what it is now.
3. SPECIFICS ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGIES I USED
Photoshop is an technology that many professionals use as there are just so many tools to use
to vary not just the picture you have taken but your overall media product, for example when
using photo shop you can the eye dropper tool select a specific colour that may already be on
the page and use this same colour in your text so there is no unnecessary contrast in your media
product this also helps you to keep the same colour scheme throughout your media product
with out clashing colours.
Another tool you can also use on Photoshop are the blur tool so you can purposely blue some
parts out from the image so you can make a specific part of the image standout this is very
effective in some cases as certain image mistakes can be purposely blurred out, in my case there
was no need to do this as my picture didn’t have any clear mistakes that need to be blurred out
and I wanted the whole of my image to be seen because there were certain things such as
jewellery that I wanted to be seen as this how I have portrayed my artist to the target audience.
Tools I have used on Photoshop are the quick selection tool, this tool this is a very good tool to
use when you want to crop a certain part of a picture as most crop tool on other software's are
in some sought of rectangle so you cannot add certain curves but the quick selection tool
enables this, for example one of my pictures was taken in the green room but I didn’t want the
green background so I cropped out the green and used the picture as my front image with a
different background that follows the colour scheme of my magazine, the gradient tool is very
good this enables you to fade a background, so for instance my colour scheme is black, blue
and grey so I used the gradient tool on my front page to fade the grey into blue as it fits with my
colour scheme and the background isn’t in contrast with my colour scheme.
4. Weebly is a what I used to present my work on, it is very simple and I rarely had problems with
this form of technology. It is very good because it is in effect a organiser so I can see what work
I have done and what work I need to make changes on, it is also very good as I can send people
from my target audience the link to my Weebly website and they can see what my work looks
like for themselves instead of me manually showing them my work.
Things that I found very good about Weebly Is that it helps you present your work like it is on
your actual website. So it lets you know what you know what a actual website look like and how
to upload pictures. I can also add as many tabs as I want to all of my main task coursework goes
into one particular tab/page so it is not just easy for me to see it but also easy for my examiner
or teacher to find it so he/she can give me feedback on what I can do to improve my work and
my blog. If I want to put a video onto my blog it is very easy all I have to do is copy the
embedded code paste it into the html code on Weebly. Simple things like this decrease the
amount of time I may use putting it on using a different technology, so more time and effort
can be put into making changes to my media product.
the good thing about Weebly is that I can change the design of the website to what I want it to
be this is effective because some designs may not fit to my particular magazine genre for
example I am doing a more masculine R&B and Hip-Hop magazine so making my Weebly
website pink would be suitable, having a variety of designs to choose from helps me decide
what will be most suitable and will relate to my magazine the best
5. Using the canon 500d enabled me to be very creative and helped me expand
my creativity as it is also a professional camera and had many features that I
may not have been able to use if it was another camera, having the various
features enabled me to experiment as I can see what picture looks good one
a particular setting and how it would appeal to my target audience. For
example I would use the flash feature when doing a close up shot as I would
want to eliminate any shadows and I would want my target audience to
concentrate on my models facial expression.
Another thing that is very good about the canon 500d is that it is portable
these enabled me to experience different shots, having a variety of images is
key when making a music magazine you are not necessarily limited on what
pictures you can use. Also varying the focus on the camera is also good to do
when using the canon 500d as I needed my target audience to see my artists
face, even on the 500d you don’t have to necessarily use the manual focus
there is a setting to turn on the auto focus so this focuses on the model of the
music magazine. This is actually the setting I used myself, as it is less time
consuming. I think auto focus I probably the most effective setting on the
canon 500d as it enables you to creative but without losing focus on the
actual camera.
6. The green room is very good to use when making a media product as you can
very the lighting of the room, this is very effective because you can, make one
part of the model you are going to use face covered in shadow, this is very
effective as it can often connote to the target audience that the artist is in the
shadows to some extent. you can also change the different colour of the light
in the green rooms this is very effective as it can help me be creative with the
colour scheme.
