Writing An Exemplary Essay
1. Which parts of your essay do you feel most closely meet the expectations for exemplary writing
as described in the essay rubric and why?
I feel that the two strongest parts of my essay are my thesis and certain parts of my closing
paragraphs. My focus, or thesis, most closely meet the expectations because it offers significant
insight that is precise and creatively stated. It also addresses the content requirements and is fully
supported throughout the essay. I like the wording I used for the thesis, and to me it's inspirational.
Secondly, I think that certain parts of my closing are strong, particularly the lessons in perseverance
that I learned from Seth. My grammar and mechanics have fulfilled the definition of exemplary in

2. Which parts of your essay could use improvement, and why?
While there are many parts of my essay that could use improvement, I am only going to focus on a

"another" twice in a row, it seems forced, like I am jumping into the next idea. How can I clearly
transition without sounding automated? Also, the last sentence in paragraph five sounds like I
just threw it in there. Should I take it out completely or rewrite it? I don't like how the last two
sentences of my essay flow, although I really like the wording I used. How can I mix or add to

Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can
explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses.
Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I
struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class
that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the
whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for
navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I

Reflection About My Writing Course
At the end of this course, I feel that a lot has improved with my writing. When I first started this
course, I was struggling with a lot of writing mechanisms. One of the things was transition. I was just
writing without thinking of how to connect my thoughts. After completing numerous writing
assignments, I am fully confident with my ability to have a paper that flows. Another thing that I

Creative Writing: Hurt
Hurt. It's all I see in her eyes and it takes everything in me not to feel bad for her. As I waited for
her drink I tapped my foot staring into space. Mentally trying to put everything together. I was torn

Jay and I were still together, but things were still a bit hostile. I just wanted to understand why, and
how. I continued to debate with myself whether this was still worth it or not. He seemed genuine,
but so did the last thirty five times. We've been stuck for two years, stuck in this phase that Ithought
would've passed by now, but it hasn't.
Maybe I shouldn't have tried to make it work, but it's too late now– I'm attached. I start to wonder if

Having taken many writing classes I have learned many things about writing. I enjoy writing and
can often write many pages about things that I am interested in. I know that I have more learning to
do about writing, and hopefully in the next couple weeks my knowledge of writing will have
expanded and my writing will have improved.
My Experience With Writing Arguments
I am unaware of any writing arguments. The only thing I can really think of is writing a research
paper with the intent to change people's minds on a certain subject. I remember researching for
weeks in the library, looking through magazine after magazine. I had searched for enough
information to write a ten–page paper. The writing process of the paper took several weeks but
when I had finished, all the hard work was worth the effort. I learned many things from that course
such as that you need to search for all the information you can because it is better to have too much
information than not enough. Also that course taught me many things about making references to
the authors of the articles I used for my paper. I remember writing out note card after note card and
keeping all the necessary information about each book or magazine. That course taught me to
become a better writer and to respect how much detail really goes into a research paper like I had

organised into propositions; words get their meaning by being correlated to things and propositions
get their meaning by being correlated to facts. Words therefore correspond to objects in the world
and are related to form sentences. Thus, sentences are only meaningful if they correspond to facts in
the world. This led Wittgenstein, a religious man himself, to believe that statements of ethics,
religion, aesthetics and metaphysics are not meaningful as they are non–factual. For example, 'The
Mona Lisa is beautiful', 'Humans deserve equal rights' and 'God is our Father' aren't propositions at
all as they don't tell us anything, they are neither true or false. He acknowledges that the sentences of
the Tractatus are not meaningful either as they speak about the relationship between language and
the world rather than describing facts in the world. This view shows how Wittgenstein agreed with
Russell's theory of definite descriptions and that language has definite limits; ethics, aesthetics and
religious discourse lie beyond those limits, starting a long–running controversy.
The Tractatus had offered a picture of language as the solution to propositions, together with all the

Often it seems, one can read more than just the words written on the page. We can read the feeling
and emotion the words represent. Homer's tone in The Odyssey shows his feelings about the past,

forcing her under with his outspread hand, and went away" (XIII). The ship, representing
balance, was forced down. Homer knew Greece's Golden Age was coming to an end. It would be
forced down like the balanced ship. The bow of Odysseus finishes this view. "I offer you the
mighty bow of prince Odysseus" (XXI). This mighty bow completes Homer's view of the ultimate

Writing is way that we can express ourselves, it is a way to interface ideas and thoughts and to
prove a point. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing
especially using details or really expressing myself my work. In this course Facts & Fiction: Portraits
in World Art I expect to gain more knowledge on how to write a perfectessay, story, letter, and

Reading and writing were two things my parents use to always push me to improve and work on
more often. They always told me they are the essentials of everything thing. Even though I
disliked both at a young age as I grew older I preferred writing because I can always change the
way I write and write from my point of view, really be creative with it and prove my point.
Growing up I always loved writing short stories especially scary stories. I always was creative
with them and even made them realistic. To write an essay I usually have a couple of steps
writing an outline, and the thesis a draft and finally a final draft. The most difficult part about this
is writing the thesis because the whole essay revolves the thesis because it summarizes the whole
essay. At the end of some essays, I had to use citations to do that there were many websites that
helped me cite sources such as easybib which was a really simple process. So, citing sources was
one of the easiest things about writing the essay.
Writing to a teacher is way more complex then writing to a fried or a family member. Writing to a
teacher is way more complex, I must make sure that everything is on point or it reaches the state of
protection. Which is having the right format, a great thesis and really conveying the point of the

marketing campaigns to believe that SUV vehicles can champion almost any weather condition.
Jeep's trademark commercial includes the Grand Cherokee driving up a mountain. In the same
respect, via perception, students are led to believe that computer software can transform writing into
perfectly constructed essays by clicking a few commands. Grammar, spelling and text editing are
common features in any word–processing program and I've never seen a disclosure warning users
about product limitations.

A friend of mine has already graduated from a university, and she recently went through a whole
crate of papers she wrote in the process. She told me she couldn't remember what many of them
were about; couldn't even remember writing most of them. We've talked about "themewriting"as
something written for and from a closed environment: a mini–universe apart from everyday life, with
its own abbreviated rules, in which oversimplification is acceptable. When I consider the sheer
tonnage of the stuff that's written every midquarter and finals week around here, it sure seems that
most of it is intended to, deserves to, and does head right for the wastebasket immediately when it's
of no further use in that universe: after it's recorded in the grade book. "Commitment" is a term
applied to solid exposition, and themewriting frequently lacks it.
Does anyone like to do this –– does it provide a warm, human, joyous feeling of having made
contact and saying something Important? Or do we just get comfortable doing it? Like being an
accountant: is there a real sense of joy to be found in adding up columns of figures? There may be
some people who would tell me "sure, it's fun," but I think actually they're just feeling safe in a sort
of half–sleep state which isn't exactly happy and may in fact be miserable, but at least is stable.

My Writing Journey
Writing Journey Have you ever been given an assignment where you say to yourself, "how the
heck am I going to do this?" or maybe, "what am I supposed to write about?" Well that's exactly
how I felt, thought, and did with this writing journey. Coming up with something to say about my
writing journey has been difficult. I would be bold enough to say nearly impossible. So impossible

something that has made my writing the way it is has been difficult. So, what I've decided to do
then is to write about my writing journey writing this paper. It all started the morning of August 22,
2017. I don't remember what the weather was, or even what I had for breakfast. But I do
remember wondering how to get to the Metro Campus of Tulsa Community College or TCC for
short. I had never been there before so it was a whole new place to me. Honestly because it was a
new place I was a little worried about it. But I managed to make it there and on time to class. Class,
English 0933, or better known as Writing Foundations. It was an interesting first class session with
Dr. Dewayne Dickson. At this point I don't even remember what was taught that first time. I'm sure it
was the Syllabus. But the first thing he did was have us write about our "writing journey."

Machiavelli's Ideas
More than anything else we've read this year, Machiavelli is extremely difficult for me to respond
to. I find myself agreeing with a lot of his ideas (at least I think I agree with his ideas, his writing
jumbles my head around), and most of my comments come from a place of unwarranted rage.
One complaint I have is that I think he goes back on his word a lot. The thing is, Machiavelli
shoves so much information down your throat every sentence that everything I've read kind of
melds together in a strange sort of limbo. For example, I'm fairly sure he talks about the
importance of being kind and virtuous in the first reading we did, but in the second a lot of it is
about being merciless. Maybe those were supposed to apply to different situations....show more

That means that I mostly put everything in context of American history, which probably isn't
what Machiavelli would want seeing as his whole book is supposed to be on principalities.
Making a connection to some other historical event really helps me out. For example, normally I
would read the line, "...The enemy will as a matter of course burn and pillage the countryside
when he arrives..." and I would've just been really bummed out by it (Machiavelli 37). But, in
Cold War we just watched a documentary on the Vietnam War. And so, for the rest of the passage
I kept drawing parallels between whatever the hell Machiavelli was talking about and the Vietnam
War. When Machiavelli said, "So the subjects will identify themselves even more with their
prince, since now that their houses have already been burned and their lands pillaged in his
defence they will consider that there is a strong bond of obligation on his part," I got really
excited because that's exactly happened in Vietnam after the U.S. firebombed them a million times
(Machiavelli 37). It's comforting to know that Machiavelli isn't just spewing a bunch of terrible
advice and making the reader fall for it. I really like the book and the ideas so far, I just wish that
someone could put it in some kindergarten–level terminology so I could read

Essay About My English Class
I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was
already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even
more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I
finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of
English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be

I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your
own opinion as long as you back it up. He showed me that I am an author when I did not think I
was. He also told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this
technique before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I
was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could
use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went
there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I
used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not be. Sometimes I would even
go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident
as a writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from multiple people that

I feel that the two strongest parts of my essay are my thesis and certain parts of my closing paragraphs.   • 19. Machiavelli's Ideas More than anything else we've read this year, Machiavelli is extremely difficult for me to respond to. I find myself agreeing with a lot of his ideas (at least I think I agree with his ideas, his writing jumbles my head around), and most of my comments come from a place of unwarranted rage. One complaint I have is that I think he goes back on his word a lot. The thing is, Machiavelli shoves so much information down your throat every sentence that everything I've read kind of melds together in a strange sort of limbo. For example, I'm fairly sure he talks about the importance of being kind and virtuous in the first reading we did, but in the second a lot of it is about being merciless. Making a connection to some other historical event really helps me out. But, in Cold War we just watched a documentary on the Vietnam War. And so, for the rest of the passage I kept drawing parallels between whatever the hell Machiavelli was talking about and the Vietnam War. When Machiavelli said, "So the subjects will identify themselves even more with their prince, since now that their houses have already been burned and their lands pillaged in his defence they will consider that there is a strong bond of obligation on his part," I got really excited because that's exactly happened in Vietnam after the U.S. firebombed them a million times (Machiavelli 37). It's comforting to know that Machiavelli isn't just spewing a bunch of terrible advice and making the reader fall for it.
