Why Should I Be Chosen For The Eng Conference Team
1)To me EAST is an opportunity. It's an opportunity to grow and develop in so many different ways that you don't find in a normal classroom. EAST
is more than just a class. It is experiences, friendships, an opportunity for knowledge, and it is unlike any other program with which I have ever been
associated. My experience in EAST has helped me identify my strengths, enabled critical–thinking, provided leadership opportunities, and required
responsibility. Through EAST I am involved and engaged with my community, and have found a love of not only interacting with but with helping
people. EAST has helped me become responsible and take ownership and pride in the projects I have created and been a part. EAST has helped me
become the leader, critical–thinker,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole entire project is focused on helping inform residents of Baxter County on all of the historical locations that are around them on the daily
basis. Through collaboration with the Historical Society we hope this project will affect many, and possibly even strengthen the foundation oflearning
and be used in elementary classrooms to make students aware at an early age.
5) I believe that the Hammock Garden project would be a fabulous project to showcase at EAST Conference. Not only does this project positively
affect our community, but it is also creating a place for teens to hang out and creates a useful addition to the new park being built. This project fits the
EAST model perfectly, finding a problem, connecting with the community, and using high end technology to solve

The Importance Of Social Entrepreneurship
Social Entrepreneurship "Despite the tremendous strides in the quality of life that humankind has made in the past two centuries, many persistent
problems remain and new ones have emerged" (Dees 1). To this day we still face poverty, preventable diseases are still killing the poor, the quality
of education is not where it should be, human trafficking and slavery is very much alive, violence continues in many countries throughout the
world, and even more alarming is the fact that the earth is warming whether we want to believe it or not, regardless of the cause. "We may not all
agree on our visions for an ideal world, but we can generally agree that the gap between reality and our notions of the ideal is still enormous" (Dees
1). A potential strategy for improvement is to have our Social Entrepreneurs who care about the well being of the people in this world and its future, to
create scalable and sustainable impact where the government and other efforts have been ineffective. Social Entrepreneurs, operating outside of the
constraints of government, significantly enhance our ability to find and implement effective solutions to social issues. "The focus on government as
the social problem solver lead to some noticeable successes, such as increased access to education and health care for many, consequently the
experience also revealed the limits of government as the vehicle for social problem solving" (Dees 2) It is clear that top–down governmental programs

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation
The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation provides an opportunity unlike most others of its kind. An opportunity that I will use to reach my goal of
changing the world in as great a capacity as I can. Additionally, The Foundation is renowned for its mentorship programme which I will embrace
completely. The Foundation provides the stimulation and means to accelerate individuals into positions of extraordinary scope and standing. I hope
to stand amongst those great people. I believe I have the talent, passion and compassion to do great things but need guidance and support to enable
me to achieve my goals. I hope to take this opportunity and change South Africa and the world by embracing the opportunities it creates. Not only
does this opportunity give many means to create change but also to be an Allan Gray Fellow additionally adds gravitas to ones position and opens up
opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable. 6 My entrepreneurial spirit is created in part by how I perceive the world. When I see problems
with our world, they are not insurmountable mountains but rather opportunities. They are opportunities for me personally to gain and for all those that
I would help by fixing that problem. This can be anything from the mundane to the most serious issue of our time. An example of this is the amount of
vegetable waste people produce in their homes and their hesitancy to compost this waste. I perceived this problem and tried to come up with a
solution. There were some people

Osborn-Parnes's Model Of Creative Problem Solving
Osborn Parnes model of Creative Problem Solving (CPS) was developed by numerous theorists over more than 5 decades. The initial founder of the
CPS model was Alex Faickney Osborn, an advertising executive and the author of the well–known brainstorming creativity technique. In the year of
1953, Osborn wrote his book called "Applied Imagination: Principles and Procedures of Creative Problem Solving". Osborn was one of the first,
amongst many individuals who spoke and wrote about the applications and concept of brainstorming and the idea behind creative problem solving.
This led to the official development of the Creative Problem–Solving technique in 1963. Sidney Parnes, a professor at Buffalo State College and the
co–founder of the International Center for Studies in Creativity followed Osborn's concept and invested nearly 4 decades into the teaching workshops
and further developing the creative process. This is where the name Osborn–Parnes originates from. Parnes was able to develop and elaborate further
onto the technique in the year of 1981 and by the year of 1985 it was further developed by Isaken and Treffinger.
Creative Problem Solving(CPS) is the process through which problems can be solved and opportunities can be found when one goes beyond the
conventional thinking and initially arrives at the concept of creativity.
Creative Problem Solving (CPS) has two assumptions:
1.Everyone has inner creativity
2.Creative skills can be learned, improved and enhanced

My First Day Of High School
"You need to surround yourself with people who care about you. Who challenge you to grow. Who make you happy and appreciate all that you have
to offer." The message rang in my head as my mother offered me this advice, in attempt to quell my fear of not fitting in the night before my first day
of high school. I was often scared to be myself. Being a persistent Asian with nothing but frequent late nights studying intensely to keep up, young
male dancer, and closeted gay teenager were all facets of my identity that did not sit well in the minds of middle school bullies. However, my high
school experiences brought me to realize that by integrating myself in a community of passionate individuals, I thrived immensely and found myself
growing every day. Today, I no longer fear being unapologetically Marcus. With a profound clarity, I envision myself continuing my journey of
self–improvement by studying at Carnegie Mellon as a design major.
I found my niche in design because the field allows me to combine my love for the arts and functional aesthetics with my dream of creating an impact
on the world. Already, I observed the immediate social impacts of thoughtful communication design as editor–in–chief for our school's yearbook
publication. I learned design extends beyond aesthetics as its primary significance is functionality, which my staff accomplished by telling powerful
stories through an understanding of visual hierarchy and efforts to ensure thorough coverage. A full year's

When the idea of leadership is brought up many will think...
When the idea of leadership is brought up many will think of someone in change. This is normally viewed as a single person. However, this idea of
one person being the one and only leader is no more. Instead there is a move towards engaging everyone to be a leader. However, there are certain
elements needed to be an effective leader for social change. Self–assessments, a personal vision and understanding of leadership and development of
personal leadership are all key elements of becoming an effective leader. In doing so, a person can become an effective leader who promotes positive
social change. Self–assessment can be a great way for a leader to find out how they work on a team and as a leader. I found the self–assessments in this

After completing the second assessment, I received a score of 38. This placed me on the low scale of LPCs meaning that I am task motivated.
This score upholds my first exam findings that I am more focused on task as a leader. On the third assessment, I received a score of 8 on factor one
placing me in the moderate range. On factor two, I scored 9, factor three I scored 12, and factors four through six I scored 10 placing me in the
high range for factors two through six. On factor seven, I scored a 5 placing me in the moderate range. In reading over the descriptions of what each
factor means I would have to concur with the findings. The lowest score was factor seven. I agree that I am least like a laissez–faire leader or
personality. I believe that I am less like the laissez–faire leader as I hold the belief of holding people accountable for their actions. This can be in terms
of the lack of work from a co–worker or group member to the misconduct done from a co–worker or group member. Lastly, with the fourth assessment
I scored an 8. In completing the final assessment, I found myself going either way with some of the questions. The first question, for example, I
almost wanted to say both. However, there was just one way that I believe that I am more slightly in favor of or see myself as. Overall, the
assessments were interesting, and it seems that I am a task motivated leader who is mostly open to change or at least promoting change. In the second

Creative Problem Solving Research Paper
My chest feels tight, and my feet sit awkwardly in the newly bought heels. Up on the stage, they're announcing the top five qualifiers in my team's
HOSA event: Creative Problem Solving. The last set of names show up on the screen. It's not us. My first reaction is to look at my teammates' faces
across the row of seats. We glance at each other wide–eyed, not knowing what to say or how to feel, but I know we were all asking ourselves the same
question: Now what?
Our journey to our very first Georgia HOSA State Leadership Conference was long and certainly not easy. It started when my friends and I were
sophomores, when we decided to create a HOSA chapter at our school because of our passion for medicine––enduring piles of forms and exasperating
email conversations just to get our idea off the ground. And then, after the frenzy of bringing the club... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, what I was able to learn in the long journey that was unfortunately terminated early are invaluable experiences that are more than enough to
negate the discouragement of any loss. After all a failure is only truly a failure when one fails to learn anything from it.
After all, competing at the the HOSA State Leadership Conference was my first step into a career–oriented world. Sometimes, you have to put on a suit
and present an idea to a critical audience, and sometimes your idea fails––an almost unavoidable experience for most medical researchers. To be able to
experience this integral (and frightening) milestone with some of my closest and most dedicated friends was invaluable.
So, though the failure was definitely an unwelcome turn of events, in the sum total process of getting to the State Leadership Conference, I grew as a
leader, as a student, and as a friend. And furthermore, when I see my HOSA family standing on that stage, my pride for them will surpass the
disappointment of a thousand

Competency : Managing Stress And Stress Management
Entry #1 Competency: Managing Stress Developmental Need: I need to improve on my ability to manage my stress. Often, I find myself feeling
anxious about working with others, especially within group projects where I am not familiar with the work style of my teammates. As such, encounter
stressors negatively affect my ability to focus on the task at hand. For example, I grew increasingly worried about the cohesiveness of my group
because we needed to collect materials, figure out times to meet and film the project. When stressed, I tend to act moody around others and panic over
the amount of work I have rather than managing my time effectively, which negatively affects my ability to work with others and accomplish tasks.
Course Material: After reviewing the stress cycle and stress management practices, I chose to implement the stressor–directed primary prevention
technique. Further reflection on the situation helped me understand that my main time stressor is work overload. Application: In order to manage my
stress levels, I implemented both emotional and task–focused coping. To start, I used constructive self–talk and trained myself using the capacities of
psychological capital. I specifically focused on confidence, despite knowing I am capable of being an effective and useful group member in group
projects, I often worry about other team members' competencies. I used mastery/success experiences to think about the times I have been in groups
where we were successful in our

Difference Between Critical And Critical Thinking
Within every problem we face in contemporary society, there are a multitude of perspectives, ideas, and ways of thinking that come into play when we
attempt to solve these problems. Two of the major ways of thinking are critical and creative. Although these two ways of thinking are defined and
exemplified in different ways, they maintain similarities to each other, and neither is fully effective at solving a multi–faceted problem on its own.
Critical thinking, by definition, is considering a problem from an objective point of view, as well as recognizing multiple perspectives and factors that
play a role in the problem–solving process. Critical thinkers must seek not only to obtain knowledge, but to decipher and delve into that knowledge,
questioning inconsistencies and challenging conflicting evidence along the way. Someone utilizing critical thinking to solve an issue cannot simply
accept that things are the way they are. They must ponder the who, what, when, where, how, and why aspects of the issue in order to come up with an
effective solution. An example of critical thinking that is prevalent in daily life is settling a dispute between peers or family members. In this situation,
a critical thinker would avoid bias (remain objective), consider both parties' side of the story (consider multiple perspectives), and negotiate a
compromise. Creative thinking, on the other hand, can be described as a method of thinking that often times involves processes and solutions that

The Innovators Dna
The Innovators DNA
"Innovation usually discusses the altering or generating more effective developments, products and ideas, and can rise the possibility of a business get
to the top. Businesses that innovate produce more effective work methods and have better output and performance. Innovation can be a promoter for
the progression and success of your business, and help you adjust and grow in the marketplace. Being innovative does not mean inventing; innovation
can mean changing your business model and adapting to changes in your environment to deliver better products or services. Successful innovation
should be an in–built part of your business strategy, where you create a culture of innovation and lead the way in innovative thinking and creative
problem solving."
To enhance your ability to innovate and act creatively, use the same five "discovery skills" that compose the "DNA of disruptive innovators":
"associating, questioning, observing, networking and experimenting." Associating – that is, connecting ideas from disparate arenas – is the most
important; the other four skills "trigger associational thinking" and support creativity, which lead to innovative business ideas. Every innovator employs
a different blend of these skills:
Innovators combine elements of various ideas and practices that other people don't put together. They draw connections that cross boundaries, linking
concepts from one discipline or culture with those from another. Albert Einstein called this

Essay about Conflict Handling Styles
Understanding Conflict Handling Styles In a dispute, it's often easier to describe how others respond then to how we respond. Each of us has a
predominant conflict style that we use to meet our own needs. By examining conflict styles and the consequences of those behaviors, we can gain a
better understanding of the impact that our personal conflict style has on other people. With a better understanding, you then can make a conscious
choice on how to respond to others in a conflict situation to help reduce work conflict and stress.
Behavioral scientists Kenneth Thomas and Ralph Kilmann, who developed the Thomas–Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, have identified five styles
to responding to conflict–competition, collaboration, compromise, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you constantly split the difference or "straddle the fence," game playing can result and the outcome could be less than ideal.
5. Collaborating
Value of own issue/goal: High
Value of relationship: High
Goal: I win, you win
The collaborative style views conflicts as problems to be solved and finding creative solutions that satisfy all the parties' concerns. You don't give up
your self interest; you dig into the issue to identify the underlying concerns, test your own assumptions, and understand the views of others.
Collaboration takes time and if the relationship among the parties is not important, then it may not be worth the time and energy to create a win–win
solution. However, collaboration fosters respect, trust, and builds relationships. To make an environment more collaborative, address the conflict
directly and in a way that expresses willingness for all parties to get what they need.
Although all of the approaches have their time and place, you need to ask yourself the basic question, "Is my preferred conflict handling style the very
best I can use to resolve this conflict or solve this problem?"
Focus on Interests (Needs), Not Positions (Wants)

The Values Based in Interest Throughout the negotiating process one may get emotional, however they should take that energy and use it to develop
as many great Alternatives as possible. By doing so they empower themselves as well as create more opportunities for every stakeholders ' interest to
be satisfactorily served. In Preparation: As we drew closer to the day of our final negotiation, I came to fully understand and appreciate that the
problems we were tasked with addressing were inextricably snared in the toils of ideology. Over the weeks of rereading the course texts, and revisiting
my lecture notes, I subtly arrived at the conclusion that in a negotiation aimed at resolving conflicts centered on profoundly intimate systems of... Show

Moreover, Deikman asserts that sometimes we perceive our emotional reactions as representations of our true self because they are so powerful as
to be felt reverberating through our entire body, and beyond our ability to control. This suggests these experiences are more at the core of our
being, as well as completely reflecting the personal beliefs that are most important to us (Deikman, 1983, p.93). Thus, as I worked at reconciling my
previous experiences with my expectations for the last values based negotiation. I did not expect there to be any real opportunities for the two parties
to come together based on shared interest. Not to say that I would not try to promote a discourse predicated on the value to be reaped by both parties,
via an interest centered agenda. But, for this potentially emotionally charged meeting, I had a few lessons to incorporate, which I had advantageously
gleaned during the semester. For instance, I knew the power of values, which are steeped in emotions, which posed a challenge to my standard
strategically controlled manner of trying to engage the pro–interest, versus positional process. Consequently, assessing outcomes in an objective
manner, can become difficult, and in the worst situations seemingly impossible. This realization also

Design Problematization: The Role of Individual...
DESIGN PROBLEMATIZATION: the role of the individual preferences and beliefs in the design process
Several factors are to be taken into consideration in designing a structure. Among other things, the problem solving of the given "initial" problem, the
usage of the structure and the aesthetic outcome of the design are given the most importance when designing. What are usually placed at the bottom of
the priority in designing are those that deal with the qualitative qualities in designing. These left out qualities ranges from the intellectual to the
emotional. This goes the same for the decision–making process, more often than not, what is given more focus by both architecture professionals and

(HARFIELD, Steve, 2007)
Harfield has stated that architects and designers, work on a very self–centered approach. In the mindset of the architect, the schematic that he is
drawing is HIS design. The schematic is his design because he had approached the problem on his own, using only his knowledge on the nature of the
design and his view on how the problem should be developed and solved. (HARFIELD, Steve, 2007)
Through this scenario Harfield has shown that the "design problematization" does not start with the received initial problem, rather it starts when the
designer or architect chose to engage the generated problem from the brief of the initial problem. This is the stage of the designing process where the
design gets personalized and individualized, as this is where the designer approaches the design problem, although at times unconsciously, with his own
views, beliefs, biases and preference, assumptions and understanding of the problem.
To simplify this idea, Harfield said that each designer is looking through their own unique lens, which filters the world, the brief and the design they are
working on through his own understanding and ideology. Simply put, this means that a neutral and unbiased take on the given problem is already
impossible. (HARFIELD, Steve, 2007)
Personally, I agree to what Harfield said, when it comes to the idea of having "a different solution to

An Assignment On An Hr Process
1. An HR process has been revealed to be the source of inefficiency in onboarding new persons served in a Morning Star state. This process touches
billing and payroll as well. Describe how you would address the issue in narrative form and provide a brief list of "do's" and "don'ts" related to
correcting this process problem. The first thing I would do is set up a meeting with the HR, billing and payroll specialists whose state is being affected
by this inefficiency. The primary goal of this meeting would be to identify what, specifically, the inefficiency is, how this affects the workloads and
productivity of each department, and get their input on what they each believe would be the best corrective course of action. From that discussion, I
would help facilitate the specialists in formulating a tentative solution, while helping to solve any potential hiccups that might arise. Once a tentative
solution has been fully developed and mapped out, I would organize and help lead another meeting with the specialists and directors of all three
departments. The primary goal of the second meeting would be to present the solution to the directors, gather their input on what they like/dislike about
the presented process, and discuss with them any potential problems they see. Based on their answers and input, the specialists and I would make any
necessary adjustments to the solution process accordingly. After everyone has come to an agreement, I would help implement the

Strengths And Strengths Of A Great Engineer Leader
In setting out the plan, it important to identify what I believe makes for a great technical leader. The leader should be responsive to the needs and
desires of those below them, but should push people to improve and innovate. They should be aware of and communicate with those above and below
them as well as their own piers. Personal conflict should be minimized, while encourage people to talk openly about their opinions on the project.
Overall this means that I see the ideal leader as a facilitator that brings out the best in those around them.

Too much personal and engaging conversation will eventually drain me. Favoring feeling over thinking can be a disadvantage in some
Engineering work as I tend to assign emotions to the different types of work I do. If I don't like the people involved in a project I will probably not
care as much about the final results or I will be come a contrarian who dislikes any suggestions from the group. My desire for harmony will often
mean I keep that to myself. Exploring ideas, while sometimes a strength, can be a weakness when working with people not prepared to try out many
ways to solve a problem.
The opportunities that I see are that I am already flexible, personable and a good communicator who enjoys a harmonious well running team. I can
leverage my years of drafting and design experience along with my high 3.8 GPA and English minor to get into an innovative top tier company where
creativity and innovation are prized.
The threats come from my desire to avoid conflict to the point where I am comfortable staying at my current job where my personality is not that
good of a fit. Introversion can keep me from speaking up and taking charge. I also need to become more mindful of the personalities of those around
me so I can taylor my leadership style around them. During the start of my engineering career I may do more detail work than I like so I hope to
avoid becoming discouraged by some early grunt work.

Creativity Of The 6-12 Classroom
Allowing Creativity to Shape the Minds of America's Future One day, a first grade teacher witnessed a boy in her class was coloring a picture
using bright shades of red, green, blue, and yellow. She walked over to the area he was working, and was about to ask what it was he was drawing
when, to her amazement, he began scribbling over the entire surface of the paper with a black crayon. As the teacher approached the student prepared
to punish him, she asked him why he had done this. He turned to her and smiled with a brief reply, "It's a garden at night." The quick assumption she
had made that he ruined his drawing is one example of misunderstanding creativity, and the natural appalling view towards it clarifies how unaccepting

This lack of motivation branches out of several main causes: completing busy work only for a grade or score, not seeing its application to life, and
content simply being too difficult. Handing out excess workload of assignments to students is overwhelming, and will not receive the same amount of
attention as only one or two would. Big Skills for the Common Core: Literacy Strategies for the 6–12 Classroom, a book by Amy Benjamin and
Michael Hugelmeyer, claims "Teachers often struggle with students' attention span and, consequently, their productivity...delivering information
through a variety of strategies maintains the attention of a class" (Benjamin and Hugelmeyer). Additionally, students who have fewer assignments will
be able to put their complete focus towards work and consuming their thoughts will allow them to extract more from doing it because it will become
individualized. Joanne Yatvin, elementary teacher and principal wrote an academic journal article titled Warning: The Common Core Standards May
Be Harmful to Children admitting "Sadly, a few standards serve only to massage the egos of education elitists, but are of no use in college courses,
careers, or everyday life" (Yatvin). Not only does this factor recieve adult recognition, but students also wonder how numerous skills they learn can be
applied outside of school, and even question it verbally. Their confusion and stress mixed with concerned and discontent parents proves how extremely
outrageous expectations have become for students. The United States wants well–educated and intelligent labels, but government attempts to reach
such a title has pushed children and teens to be incapable of full understanding of given concepts. Furthermore, standards and goals set for education
systems falling far from successful are both developmentally inappropriate and discouraging to

Overcoming Adversity In The Three Ways To Overcoming...
Before getting back up after you fall you have to gather all your strength and push whatever made you fall harder.Every time you fall the same
solution might not work so you have to be stubborn and keep an attitude that tells your challenger Try your best shot, and that if you fall you won't
be gone for long.People overcome obstacles in less than three ways the three ways are by keeping a positive attitude, being determined, and lastly
being a creative problem solver. First,in ways, people overcome obstacles is keeping a positive attitude since when you have a positive attitude you
are harder to discourage. An example of positive attitude while facing adversity would be in the text "A work in progress" where Aimee Mullin faces
her adversity with humor like when she broke her wooden leg and while all the other people in that room were freaking out all she could think
about was that her parents were going to kill her.I chose this example because out of all the stories we read in class about facing adversity Aimee
Mullin struck me as the most positive about her obstacle. It's important because it shows my point that with a positive attitude you don't get
discouraged as easily and like Aimee Mullin you can achieve whatever you wish no matter your adversity.Another example from "A work in
progress" that shows positive attitude would be when Aimee Mullin got her new legs and was stating all the good qualities about her legs instead of
being like oh I don't this about them or

Cognitive Problem Solving And Creative Inventing
Cognitive Problem Solving and Creative Inventing Cognitive psychology involves a multitude of different processes, and one of these amazing
processes is problem solving. There are several approaches to understanding problem solving, some of these being the Gestalt approach, the
information processing approach, and analogical problem solving. Creativity and open mindedness can play a critical role in solving problems as
they can provide out of the box thinking in finding abnormal or unusual solutions. Sometimes being an expert in a specific field can aid in problem
solving as a source of knowledge, and sometimes it can hinder problem solving as a set of boundaries for thinking. Many obstacles in problem solving
have to do with fixation on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A few different approaches to problem solving exist. One of these approaches, the Gestalt approach, involves how a problem is represented in the
mind (Goldstein, 2015). Gestalt Approach According to Goldstein (2015), representation of a problem can differ from person to person. The first
influence on representation in the mind is how the problem is initially presented (Goldstein, 2015). A math problem is presented differently than a
science problem, and therefore is already potentially represented differently in the mind. Often times this initial representation does not immediately
offer a solution, so a change in representation is required. This change in representation is called restructuring (Goldstein, 2015). A Gestalt concept
that followed restructuring was insight. Insight is "the sudden realization of a problem's solution" (Goldstein, 2015, p. 337). Insight occurs when
restructuring triggers the solution to come to a person's mind (Lv, 2015). A noninsight problem is associated more with a process instead of the
sudden idea of insight (Goldstein, 2015). Insight has an exponential rate of arrival at the solution while noninsight involves a steady, gradual arrival
(Goldstein, 2015). Obstacles While Gestalt psychologists invented many concepts about problem solving, they also discovered a few obstacles. One
such obstacle is fixation. Fixation involves focus on a certain aspect of the problem which hinders progress

A Reflection On Applied Organization Behavior
Applied Organization Behavior is probably one of the most useful classes I have ever taken at SJSU. This class not only prepared myself for the
future, but taught the knowledge that I would never seek to figure out on my own. I was able to discover certain characteristics and traits about myself
that was untouched. I was able to apply the way I feel and think about everything that goes on in words. With in–depth explanations and situations from
this class, it has maneuvered me to understand myself better, yet, an exceptional future manager. The self–assessments led me to a better grasp of what
it is like to be an amazing manager. The MBTI assessment bolstered my preferred personality type, which could be used to open lots of
opportunities. Being part of a team and working as a team allowed me to figure out my classmates and how to resolve problems when conflicts
surface. By creating a personal leadership philosophy, it will remind me of why I do certain actions, and hopefully allowing others to learn and share
the experience. These are some of the information and knowledge that will prepare me to face the real world when I get a job and manage people. All
of the little details will shape, and differentiate between me and the other managers Self–assessments are guides that will help apprehend what it needs
to be a phenomenal manager. There are different ways to manage and types of manager. However, there will only be certain preferred types of
manager and certain ways when

Humour And Its Influence On Organizational Success
Humour refers to a key factor of human interaction and is often used as a multifunctional tool to achieve many objectives. Humour has managed to
play a significant role in the workplace environment in several ways. It brings many positive outcomes to workplace relations such as building stronger
connections. Not only does the use of humour build stronger connections, but it also assists in building your career, creativity, culture, confidence and
overall success within an organisation (Cooper, 2008). However, there are a few negatively used humour styles which can lead to a damaging impact
on the organisation. Throughout this essay, the concept of humour and its role in bringing organisational success will be conveyed through the
supporting studies as well as the theories presented.
Humour is diverse and is commonly used within organisations. Many styles of humour within the workplace can lead to organisational success. These
popular types of humour styles include self–enhancing humour, as well as affiliative humour. Affiliative humour is commonly used in the workplace
to assist in amusing one another, to facilitate relationships and to reduce interpersonal tension. On the other hand, self–enhancing humour refers to
individuals who usually take a humorous perspective of life. They also tend to use it as a tool to cope with stress and tension in the workplace
(Galloway, 2010). Controversially, a few negative styles of humour also exist within some firms. The most common

Melinda Moyer's The Serious Need For Play
The Benefits of Play for All Childhood is often perceived as a conglomeration of pieced together memories and a strong sense of nostalgia for an
easier, simpler time that has passed far beyond reach. All of those countless hours of backyard games with the neighborhood kids actually play a huge
role in successful childhood development, according to Melinda Moyer's "The Serious Need For Play." Research by Witman and Keller has found that
children who grow up to be murderers share two common childhood factors: abusive family members and a lack of playtime; however, there is no
definitive proof on which of these factors is more influential (Moyer). Regardless, there is a consensus though that playing provides numerous social,

However, benefits are not limited to the young of the animal kingdom: human adults too can benefit. Companies are beginning to realize the benefits
from providing time for their employees to play' one of the most famous example is the fun oriented environment that google provides with its slides
and volleyball courts. In less creatively inclined companies, programs such as Insync provide opportunities for coworkers to spend time playing
together, in paintball tournaments or solving murder mysteries (Parker). Play can take different forms for many adults; for example, inclusive board
games such as Scrabble offer pleasurable experiences and learning opportunities while also providing building community for those playing the game.
Benefits for adults are similar to those for children who play, including encouraging trust, increasing creative thinking and problem solving, and
bolstering communication skills (Parker). Playing with others encourages the maintenance of social well–being, which releases oxytocin and
encourages bonding between the players. Research suggests that puzzles and games can sustain memory abilities and problem solving skills, which
lowers the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Researchers also suggest keeping a sense of playfulness

Creative Problem Solving
CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING Creative Problem Solving is a proven method for approaching a problem or a challenge in an imaginative and
innovative way. It's a tool that helps people re–define the problems they face, come up with breakthrough ideas and then take action on these new ideas.
Objective Finding – Identify Goal, Wish or Challenge This could be a wish or a goal. It might be the initial dissatisfaction or a desire that opens the
door to using the CPS process. Fact Finding – Gather Data Assess and review all the data that pertains to the situation at hand. Who's involved, what's
involved, when, where, and why it's important.. Problem Finding – Clarify the Problem In this step, explore the facts and data to find all the problems
and challenges inherent in the situation, and all the opportunities they represent. Idea Finding – Generate Ideas Generating ideas is much more than
brainstorming. During this step, be vigilant about deferring judgment and coming up with wild, outrageous, out–of–the–box ideas. Solution Finding
Select and Strengthen Solutions First, try to strengthen and improve the best ideas generated. Next, generate the criteria that need to be considered to
evaluate the ideas for success. Acceptance Finding Plan for Action In this step, look at who's responsible, what has to be done by when, and what
resources are available in order to realize this idea as a full–fledged, activated solution. EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION Motivation is a crucial aspect

Part A: Information needed by Luke as follows: Check the exact time, at which the train leaves. How far is the railway station? How long it will
take to reach the station on foot from both ends From the above information, I would recon Luke to leave as early as possible, at around 1:30pm so
that he can reach at least 15 minutes before the departure. And also would recommend Luke to take a cab rather walk in such case of important
meetings. Section 1: Question 1: 1.1)A problem can be defined as a situation which makes a person feel tensed and disturbed from various causes,
problem can be caused by infinite number of ways depending on the person dealing with the problem. The word problem can be termed in many

Creativity And The Creative Thinking
CREATIVITY "Seeing what everyone else has seen And Thinking what no one else has thought"–Einstein and Feynman INTRODUCTION "Creative
thinking brings about new things – innovations .........Creative people are those who produce such innovations and the creative process consist of the
psychological processes involved in bringing about innovations" (Weisberg, 2006.) Creativity/creative thinking is a quality that every executive
/manager should possess. However, creativity is not just a quality that any creative person possesses or is not just a concept which can be
developed by research. Creativity is innate but not everyone is blessed with it. As a matter of fact creativity is developed by need for it and those
experiences leading to generate creative ideas by means of getting involved into those situations or problems that require you to be creative. The
following words by a great innovator of the last century ,Isadora Duncan(1930) who developed great dancing styles merely based on everyday
activities of running, moving, skipping and rightly so said– "I wonder how many adults realise that by the so–called education they are giving their
children, they are only driving them into the commonplace and depriving them of any chance of doing anything beautiful or original" (Bruce 2011)

Reducing your Personal Energy Use
Ever since the human settlements and their population place pressure on the environment through the increasing demand for water, energy and land,
and also through the production of wastes that includes greenhouse gas emission. These impacts can also be regard as direct, through the use of water,
energy, and land, or indirect, through the production and distribution of goods and services that household consumes. There is evidence that our way
of living and the direction of the development in today's society are not considered ecologically sustainable. This essay is about exploring how we can

The minus side to reducing your personal energy use is the, loss of your luxuries eg; sitting in the warmth or cool air of your heater and the AC, can't
be a couch potato any longer, have to drive around towns smartly and efficiently to save planet, eating less meat because agriculture industries produces
a lot of methane, hanging your clothes out to dry in the sun rather than simply using an dryer. Finally the interesting things are using renewable sources
to produce energy at home, choosing the highest efficient home appliances competitions between the electric appliances industries to come up with the
efficient appliances, recycling products, trying telecommunication for working purposes rather than going to work and wasting fuel energy. This was
an example of how PMI can be a useful creative thinking tool for generating ideas. Likewise there is another creative thinking tool that could be used
for generating ideas is problem reversal.
Problem reversal technique is explained by Schaper and Volery (2011) as, "The action of viewing a problem from opposite angle by asking questions

The Importance Of Education In Education
What is the goal of the United States' K–12 education system in the 21st century? While it may be worded in a variety of ways, it is well known that
the main goal is essentially to equip our students with the skills necessary to succeed on their own after K–12 education. However, many of today's
high school graduates are not experiencing the achievement of this goal. In order for success after K–12 education to happen the students must possess
the intrinsic motivation for overcoming obstacles, and the confidence in their ability to do so. With much of education involving a right and wrong
answer it is easy for students to feel like they can either succeed or fail. In contrast, education through the arts with a design thinking approach allows
students to have a learning experience where the best solution to a problem is not given to them, but rather found by them throughout the design
process. This process gives students the opportunity to learn from their mistakes, gain confidence in their ideas, and develop a motivation that comes
from within. Thus, through design thinking pedagogy and the integration of the arts with other disciplines, as seen in STEAM curriculums, educators
are able to facilitate this type of learning experience and therefore better equip students with the tools for success. In today's education system much of
the focus is on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, which combined are known as STEM, and "the arts are being pushed out of the

The Personality Assessment Inventory Tests
The personality assessment inventory tests provide results on my individual personality, values, motivation, decision making, communication, team
skills, conflict skills, organizational structure preference, and stress. These results are broken down briefly in three parts and do not include any
personal speculation or analysis as to their meaning. The application of these results are further applied and explains how the results noted from the
tests and in the first step will make me a better employee, co–worker, and manager within my organization. These tests mentioned above are applied in
conjunction with particular examples on how I can achieve becoming a better employee, co–worker, and manager. An explanation of how my
personality and experiences were affected by the Holy Spirit is also discussed. Particularly, how potential weaknesses have become strengths with the
guidance of the Lord. Step 1: Personal Inventory Assessment Part I: What About Me? All of the information presented in step one provided from was

The Errors Of Judgment That Stood Out
There are three errors in judgment that stood out to me in the reading and attend. Unwarranted assumptions are "beliefs and ideas that are taken for
granted" (Bethel, 2013). Both personally and professionally unwarranted assumptions can cause a lack of communication. This can lead to problems
in relationships and deadlines not being met. Projection is "tendency to attribute to others some of our own traits". Often times, when we have
personality traits or feelings, we assume others are doing or feel the same. This can lead to hurt feelings, resentment, and lack of communication.
And, sweeping generalizations means "one experience is used to generalize about a whole group". When you put an entire group into a category, you
can actually lead to you missing out on good situations and even better people. On the other hand, you could also get yourself into trouble by
assuming the best of an entire group based on one experience with one or two people involved. Last year, I made an unwarranted assumption at work.
Although it didn't get me wrote up, it did cause a dust–up in the workplace. Previous administration had left it to the bookkeeper to know when an
employee left during the work day. I let the bookkeeper know I had to leave for an hour or so, but didn't let my administration know. It was during
state testing week and we were not supposed to leave the school. I should have cleared it with administration. I often make projections based on my
own traits in my personal

Introduction This paper will introduce critical thinking and creative problem solving with an emphasis on the latter. In doing so, it will attempt to
describe any similarities and differences between the two. Critical thinking is the process of rationally analyzing and attempting to solve a problem
accurately without guessing. The first step in critical thinking is to understand the problem thoroughly which will allow you to restate the problem in
different ways to learn about it and other related issues and where to look for possible solutions. Critical thinking is the general cognitive skill of

Vertical thinking is thinking with mental operations that move in a straight line up and down between higher and lower level concepts. Where lateral
thinking is looking in alternate directions to define and interpret a problem and thus a solution. Vertical thinking is like convergent thinking in that it
seeks a single correct solution. Lateral thinking is similar to divergent thinking in that it seeks alternate solutions by going around the obvious and
taking a different path. Component Approach Sternberg's component approach views a lateral move in thinking will bring a shift in point of view
brought on by degrees of freedom from a sideways move from the one–dimensional linear mode of thinking. The three elements of Sternberg's theory
are; knowledge acquisition, planning and decision making. Davidson, Deuser, and Sternberg used the component approach in a problem solving
approach with four processes which are; finding and defining the problem, mentally representing the problem, planning how to solve the problem, and
evaluating performance on the problem. Each of these processes benefit from lateral thinking. Self–Efficacy Self–efficacy is the belief in one's ability
to organize and execute the actions necessary to manage a situation ("What Is Self–Efficacy?", n.d.). Self–efficacy allows divergent thinking because
cognitive limits are not set in place. Metaphors A metaphor is an example in which the unfamiliar is expressed in terms of

Why Should I Be Chosen For The Eng Conference Team

  • 1. Why Should I Be Chosen For The Eng Conference Team 1)To me EAST is an opportunity. It's an opportunity to grow and develop in so many different ways that you don't find in a normal classroom. EAST is more than just a class. It is experiences, friendships, an opportunity for knowledge, and it is unlike any other program with which I have ever been associated. My experience in EAST has helped me identify my strengths, enabled critical–thinking, provided leadership opportunities, and required responsibility. Through EAST I am involved and engaged with my community, and have found a love of not only interacting with but with helping people. EAST has helped me become responsible and take ownership and pride in the projects I have created and been a part. EAST has helped me become the leader, critical–thinker,... Through collaboration with the Historical Society we hope this project will affect many, and possibly even strengthen the foundation oflearning and be used in elementary classrooms to make students aware at an early age. 5) I believe that the Hammock Garden project would be a fabulous project to showcase at EAST Conference. Not only does this project positively affect our community, but it is also creating a place for teens to hang out and creates a useful addition to the new park being built. This project fits the EAST model perfectly, finding a problem, connecting with the community, and using high end technology to solve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Importance Of Social Entrepreneurship Social Entrepreneurship "Despite the tremendous strides in the quality of life that humankind has made in the past two centuries, many persistent problems remain and new ones have emerged" (Dees 1). To this day we still face poverty, preventable diseases are still killing the poor, the quality of education is not where it should be, human trafficking and slavery is very much alive, violence continues in many countries throughout the world, and even more alarming is the fact that the earth is warming whether we want to believe it or not, regardless of the cause. "We may not all agree on our visions for an ideal world, but we can generally agree that the gap between reality and our notions of the ideal is still enormous" (Dees 1). A potential strategy for improvement is to have our Social Entrepreneurs who care about the well being of the people in this world and its future, to create scalable and sustainable impact where the government and other efforts have been ineffective. Social Entrepreneurs, operating outside of the constraints of government, significantly enhance our ability to find and implement effective solutions to social issues. "The focus on government as the social problem solver lead to some noticeable successes, such as increased access to education and health care for many, consequently the experience also revealed the limits of government as the vehicle for social problem solving" (Dees 2) It is clear that top–down governmental programs have serious ... • 3. The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation provides an opportunity unlike most others of its kind. An opportunity that I will use to reach my goal of changing the world in as great a capacity as I can. Additionally, The Foundation is renowned for its mentorship programme which I will embrace completely. The Foundation provides the stimulation and means to accelerate individuals into positions of extraordinary scope and standing. I hope to stand amongst those great people. I believe I have the talent, passion and compassion to do great things but need guidance and support to enable me to achieve my goals. I hope to take this opportunity and change South Africa and the world by embracing the opportunities it creates. Not only does this opportunity give many means to create change but also to be an Allan Gray Fellow additionally adds gravitas to ones position and opens up opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable. 6 My entrepreneurial spirit is created in part by how I perceive the world. When I see problems with our world, they are not insurmountable mountains but rather opportunities. They are opportunities for me personally to gain and for all those that I would help by fixing that problem. This can be anything from the mundane to the most serious issue of our time. An example of this is the amount of vegetable waste people produce in their homes and their hesitancy to compost this waste. I perceived this problem and tried to come up with a solution. There were some people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Osborn-Parnes's Model Of Creative Problem Solving Osborn Parnes model of Creative Problem Solving (CPS) was developed by numerous theorists over more than 5 decades. The initial founder of the CPS model was Alex Faickney Osborn, an advertising executive and the author of the well–known brainstorming creativity technique. In the year of 1953, Osborn wrote his book called "Applied Imagination: Principles and Procedures of Creative Problem Solving". Osborn was one of the first, amongst many individuals who spoke and wrote about the applications and concept of brainstorming and the idea behind creative problem solving. This led to the official development of the Creative Problem–Solving technique in 1963. Sidney Parnes, a professor at Buffalo State College and the co–founder of the International Center for Studies in Creativity followed Osborn's concept and invested nearly 4 decades into the teaching workshops and further developing the creative process. This is where the name Osborn–Parnes originates from. Parnes was able to develop and elaborate further onto the technique in the year of 1981 and by the year of 1985 it was further developed by Isaken and Treffinger. Creative Problem Solving(CPS) is the process through which problems can be solved and opportunities can be found when one goes beyond the conventional thinking and initially arrives at the concept of creativity. Creative Problem Solving (CPS) has two assumptions: 1.Everyone has inner creativity 2.Creative skills can be learned, improved and enhanced CPS ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My First Day Of High School "You need to surround yourself with people who care about you. Who challenge you to grow. Who make you happy and appreciate all that you have to offer." The message rang in my head as my mother offered me this advice, in attempt to quell my fear of not fitting in the night before my first day of high school. I was often scared to be myself. Being a persistent Asian with nothing but frequent late nights studying intensely to keep up, young male dancer, and closeted gay teenager were all facets of my identity that did not sit well in the minds of middle school bullies. However, my high school experiences brought me to realize that by integrating myself in a community of passionate individuals, I thrived immensely and found myself growing every day. Today, I no longer fear being unapologetically Marcus. With a profound clarity, I envision myself continuing my journey of self–improvement by studying at Carnegie Mellon as a design major. I found my niche in design because the field allows me to combine my love for the arts and functional aesthetics with my dream of creating an impact on the world. Already, I observed the immediate social impacts of thoughtful communication design as editor–in–chief for our school's yearbook publication. I learned design extends beyond aesthetics as its primary significance is functionality, which my staff accomplished by telling powerful stories through an understanding of visual hierarchy and efforts to ensure thorough coverage. A full year's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. When the idea of leadership is brought up many will think... When the idea of leadership is brought up many will think of someone in change. This is normally viewed as a single person. However, this idea of one person being the one and only leader is no more. Instead there is a move towards engaging everyone to be a leader. However, there are certain elements needed to be an effective leader for social change. Self–assessments, a personal vision and understanding of leadership and development of personal leadership are all key elements of becoming an effective leader. In doing so, a person can become an effective leader who promotes positive social change. Self–assessment can be a great way for a leader to find out how they work on a team and as a leader. I found the self–assessments in this course... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After completing the second assessment, I received a score of 38. This placed me on the low scale of LPCs meaning that I am task motivated. This score upholds my first exam findings that I am more focused on task as a leader. On the third assessment, I received a score of 8 on factor one placing me in the moderate range. On factor two, I scored 9, factor three I scored 12, and factors four through six I scored 10 placing me in the high range for factors two through six. On factor seven, I scored a 5 placing me in the moderate range. In reading over the descriptions of what each factor means I would have to concur with the findings. The lowest score was factor seven. I agree that I am least like a laissez–faire leader or personality. I believe that I am less like the laissez–faire leader as I hold the belief of holding people accountable for their actions. This can be in terms of the lack of work from a co–worker or group member to the misconduct done from a co–worker or group member. Lastly, with the fourth assessment I scored an 8. In completing the final assessment, I found myself going either way with some of the questions. The first question, for example, I almost wanted to say both. However, there was just one way that I believe that I am more slightly in favor of or see myself as. Overall, the assessments were interesting, and it seems that I am a task motivated leader who is mostly open to change or at least promoting change. In the second ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Creative Problem Solving Research Paper My chest feels tight, and my feet sit awkwardly in the newly bought heels. Up on the stage, they're announcing the top five qualifiers in my team's HOSA event: Creative Problem Solving. The last set of names show up on the screen. It's not us. My first reaction is to look at my teammates' faces across the row of seats. We glance at each other wide–eyed, not knowing what to say or how to feel, but I know we were all asking ourselves the same question: Now what? Our journey to our very first Georgia HOSA State Leadership Conference was long and certainly not easy. It started when my friends and I were sophomores, when we decided to create a HOSA chapter at our school because of our passion for medicine––enduring piles of forms and exasperating email conversations just to get our idea off the ground. And then, after the frenzy of bringing the club... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, what I was able to learn in the long journey that was unfortunately terminated early are invaluable experiences that are more than enough to negate the discouragement of any loss. After all a failure is only truly a failure when one fails to learn anything from it. After all, competing at the the HOSA State Leadership Conference was my first step into a career–oriented world. Sometimes, you have to put on a suit and present an idea to a critical audience, and sometimes your idea fails––an almost unavoidable experience for most medical researchers. To be able to experience this integral (and frightening) milestone with some of my closest and most dedicated friends was invaluable. So, though the failure was definitely an unwelcome turn of events, in the sum total process of getting to the State Leadership Conference, I grew as a leader, as a student, and as a friend. And furthermore, when I see my HOSA family standing on that stage, my pride for them will surpass the disappointment of a thousand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Often, I find myself feeling anxious about working with others, especially within group projects where I am not familiar with the work style of my teammates. As such, encounter stressors negatively affect my ability to focus on the task at hand. For example, I grew increasingly worried about the cohesiveness of my group because we needed to collect materials, figure out times to meet and film the project. When stressed, I tend to act moody around others and panic over the amount of work I have rather than managing my time effectively, which negatively affects my ability to work with others and accomplish tasks. Course Material: After reviewing the stress cycle and stress management practices, I chose to implement the stressor–directed primary prevention technique. Further reflection on the situation helped me understand that my main time stressor is work overload. Application: In order to manage my stress levels, I implemented both emotional and task–focused coping. To start, I used constructive self–talk and trained myself using the capacities of psychological capital. I specifically focused on confidence, despite knowing I am capable of being an effective and useful group member in group projects, I often worry about other team members' competencies. • 12. Difference Between Critical And Critical Thinking Within every problem we face in contemporary society, there are a multitude of perspectives, ideas, and ways of thinking that come into play when we attempt to solve these problems. Two of the major ways of thinking are critical and creative. Although these two ways of thinking are defined and exemplified in different ways, they maintain similarities to each other, and neither is fully effective at solving a multi–faceted problem on its own. Critical thinking, by definition, is considering a problem from an objective point of view, as well as recognizing multiple perspectives and factors that play a role in the problem–solving process. Critical thinkers must seek not only to obtain knowledge, but to decipher and delve into that knowledge, questioning inconsistencies and challenging conflicting evidence along the way. Someone utilizing critical thinking to solve an issue cannot simply accept that things are the way they are. They must ponder the who, what, when, where, how, and why aspects of the issue in order to come up with an effective solution. An example of critical thinking that is prevalent in daily life is settling a dispute between peers or family members. In this situation, a critical thinker would avoid bias (remain objective), consider both parties' side of the story (consider multiple perspectives), and negotiate a compromise. Creative thinking, on the other hand, can be described as a method of thinking that often times involves processes and solutions that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Businesses that innovate produce more effective work methods and have better output and performance. Innovation can be a promoter for the progression and success of your business, and help you adjust and grow in the marketplace. Being innovative does not mean inventing; innovation can mean changing your business model and adapting to changes in your environment to deliver better products or services. Successful innovation should be an in–built part of your business strategy, where you create a culture of innovation and lead the way in innovative thinking and creative problem solving." To enhance your ability to innovate and act creatively, use the same five "discovery skills" that compose the "DNA of disruptive innovators": "associating, questioning, observing, networking and experimenting." Associating – that is, connecting ideas from disparate arenas – is the most important; the other four skills "trigger associational thinking" and support creativity, which lead to innovative business ideas. Every innovator employs a different blend of these skills: Innovators combine elements of various ideas and practices that other people don't put together. They draw connections that cross boundaries, linking concepts from one discipline or culture with those from another. Albert Einstein called this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Essay about Conflict Handling Styles Understanding Conflict Handling Styles In a dispute, it's often easier to describe how others respond then to how we respond. Each of us has a predominant conflict style that we use to meet our own needs. By examining conflict styles and the consequences of those behaviors, we can gain a better understanding of the impact that our personal conflict style has on other people. With a better understanding, you then can make a conscious choice on how to respond to others in a conflict situation to help reduce work conflict and stress. Behavioral scientists Kenneth Thomas and Ralph Kilmann, who developed the Thomas–Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, have identified five styles to responding to conflict–competition, collaboration, compromise, ... Collaborating Value of own issue/goal: High Value of relationship: High Goal: I win, you win The collaborative style views conflicts as problems to be solved and finding creative solutions that satisfy all the parties' concerns. You don't give up your self interest; you dig into the issue to identify the underlying concerns, test your own assumptions, and understand the views of others. Collaboration takes time and if the relationship among the parties is not important, then it may not be worth the time and energy to create a win–win solution. However, collaboration fosters respect, trust, and builds relationships. To make an environment more collaborative, address the conflict directly and in a way that expresses willingness for all parties to get what they need. Although all of the approaches have their time and place, you need to ask yourself the basic question, "Is my preferred conflict handling style the very best I can use to resolve this conflict or solve this problem?" In Preparation: As we drew closer to the day of our final negotiation, I came to fully understand and appreciate that the problems we were tasked with addressing were inextricably snared in the toils of ideology. Moreover, Deikman asserts that sometimes we perceive our emotional reactions as representations of our true self because they are so powerful as to be felt reverberating through our entire body, and beyond our ability to control. This suggests these experiences are more at the core of our being, as well as completely reflecting the personal beliefs that are most important to us (Deikman, 1983, p.93). Thus, as I worked at reconciling my previous experiences with my expectations for the last values based negotiation. I did not expect there to be any real opportunities for the two parties to come together based on shared interest. Not to say that I would not try to promote a discourse predicated on the value to be reaped by both parties, via an interest centered agenda. But, for this potentially emotionally charged meeting, I had a few lessons to incorporate, which I had advantageously gleaned during the semester. For instance, I knew the power of values, which are steeped in emotions, which posed a challenge to my standard strategically controlled manner of trying to engage the pro–interest, versus positional process. DESIGN PROBLEMATIZATION: the role of the individual preferences and beliefs in the design process Several factors are to be taken into consideration in designing a structure. Among other things, the problem solving of the given "initial" problem, the usage of the structure and the aesthetic outcome of the design are given the most importance when designing. What are usually placed at the bottom of the priority in designing are those that deal with the qualitative qualities in designing. In the mindset of the architect, the schematic that he is drawing is HIS design. The schematic is his design because he had approached the problem on his own, using only his knowledge on the nature of the design and his view on how the problem should be developed and solved. (HARFIELD, Steve, 2007) Through this scenario Harfield has shown that the "design problematization" does not start with the received initial problem, rather it starts when the designer or architect chose to engage the generated problem from the brief of the initial problem. This is the stage of the designing process where the design gets personalized and individualized, as this is where the designer approaches the design problem, although at times unconsciously, with his own views, beliefs, biases and preference, assumptions and understanding of the problem. To simplify this idea, Harfield said that each designer is looking through their own unique lens, which filters the world, the brief and the design they are working on through his own understanding and ideology. Simply put, this means that a neutral and unbiased take on the given problem is already impossible. This process touches billing and payroll as well. Describe how you would address the issue in narrative form and provide a brief list of "do's" and "don'ts" related to correcting this process problem. The first thing I would do is set up a meeting with the HR, billing and payroll specialists whose state is being affected by this inefficiency. The primary goal of this meeting would be to identify what, specifically, the inefficiency is, how this affects the workloads and productivity of each department, and get their input on what they each believe would be the best corrective course of action. From that discussion, I would help facilitate the specialists in formulating a tentative solution, while helping to solve any potential hiccups that might arise. Once a tentative solution has been fully developed and mapped out, I would organize and help lead another meeting with the specialists and directors of all three departments. The primary goal of the second meeting would be to present the solution to the directors, gather their input on what they like/dislike about the presented process, and discuss with them any potential problems they see. Based on their answers and input, the specialists and I would make any necessary adjustments to the solution process accordingly. One of these approaches, the Gestalt approach, involves how a problem is represented in the mind (Goldstein, 2015). Gestalt Approach According to Goldstein (2015), representation of a problem can differ from person to person. The first influence on representation in the mind is how the problem is initially presented (Goldstein, 2015). A math problem is presented differently than a science problem, and therefore is already potentially represented differently in the mind. Often times this initial representation does not immediately offer a solution, so a change in representation is required. This change in representation is called restructuring (Goldstein, 2015). A Gestalt concept that followed restructuring was insight. Insight is "the sudden realization of a problem's solution" (Goldstein, 2015, p. 337). Insight occurs when restructuring triggers the solution to come to a person's mind (Lv, 2015). A noninsight problem is associated more with a process instead of the sudden idea of insight (Goldstein, 2015). Insight has an exponential rate of arrival at the solution while noninsight involves a steady, gradual arrival (Goldstein, 2015). Obstacles While Gestalt psychologists invented many concepts about problem solving, they also discovered a few obstacles. One such obstacle is fixation. Fixation involves focus on a certain aspect of the problem which hinders progress ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Importance Of Education In Education What is the goal of the United States' K–12 education system in the 21st century? While it may be worded in a variety of ways, it is well known that the main goal is essentially to equip our students with the skills necessary to succeed on their own after K–12 education. However, many of today's high school graduates are not experiencing the achievement of this goal. In order for success after K–12 education to happen the students must possess the intrinsic motivation for overcoming obstacles, and the confidence in their ability to do so. With much of education involving a right and wrong answer it is easy for students to feel like they can either succeed or fail. In contrast, education through the arts with a design thinking approach allows students to have a learning experience where the best solution to a problem is not given to them, but rather found by them throughout the design process. This process gives students the opportunity to learn from their mistakes, gain confidence in their ideas, and develop a motivation that comes from within. Thus, through design thinking pedagogy and the integration of the arts with other disciplines, as seen in STEAM curriculums, educators are able to facilitate this type of learning experience and therefore better equip students with the tools for success. • 39. The Errors Of Judgment That Stood Out There are three errors in judgment that stood out to me in the reading and attend. Unwarranted assumptions are "beliefs and ideas that are taken for granted" (Bethel, 2013). Both personally and professionally unwarranted assumptions can cause a lack of communication. This can lead to problems in relationships and deadlines not being met. Projection is "tendency to attribute to others some of our own traits". Often times, when we have personality traits or feelings, we assume others are doing or feel the same. This can lead to hurt feelings, resentment, and lack of communication. And, sweeping generalizations means "one experience is used to generalize about a whole group". When you put an entire group into a category, you can actually lead to you missing out on good situations and even better people. On the other hand, you could also get yourself into trouble by assuming the best of an entire group based on one experience with one or two people involved. Last year, I made an unwarranted assumption at work. Although it didn't get me wrote up, it did cause a dust–up in the workplace. Previous administration had left it to the bookkeeper to know when an employee left during the work day. I let the bookkeeper know I had to leave for an hour or so, but didn't let my administration know. It was during state testing week and we were not supposed to leave the school. I should have cleared it with administration. I often make projections based on my own traits in my personal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Critical thinking is the process of rationally analyzing and attempting to solve a problem accurately without guessing. The first step in critical thinking is to understand the problem thoroughly which will allow you to restate the problem in different ways to learn about it and other related issues and where to look for possible solutions. Critical thinking is the general cognitive skill of determining the best answer when there is not one correct answer. Critical thinking is a trainable skill that can create innovative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vertical thinking is thinking with mental operations that move in a straight line up and down between higher and lower level concepts. Where lateral thinking is looking in alternate directions to define and interpret a problem and thus a solution. Vertical thinking is like convergent thinking in that it seeks a single correct solution. Lateral thinking is similar to divergent thinking in that it seeks alternate solutions by going around the obvious and taking a different path. Component Approach Sternberg's component approach views a lateral move in thinking will bring a shift in point of view brought on by degrees of freedom from a sideways move from the one–dimensional linear mode of thinking. The three elements of Sternberg's theory are; knowledge acquisition, planning and decision making. Davidson, Deuser, and Sternberg used the component approach in a problem solving approach with four processes which are; finding and defining the problem, mentally representing the problem, planning how to solve the problem, and evaluating performance on the problem. Each of these processes benefit from lateral thinking. Self–Efficacy Self–efficacy is the belief in one's ability to organize and execute the actions necessary to manage a situation ("What Is Self–Efficacy?", n.d.). Self–efficacy allows divergent thinking because cognitive limits are not set in place. Metaphors A metaphor is an example in which the unfamiliar is expressed in terms of ...
