Kingaroy Model
The purpose of this report is to provide information for submission in funding a new service. The
service will be based in Kingaroy and provide services throughout the South Burnett region. This
submission of funding will join in partnership with a local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
agency. The information was gathered from a variety of sources. Holistic Services The proposed aim
of the services should be holistic while addressing social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander people who facilitate services offered by the agency. Following a Western
approach to social and emotional well–being will not be productive nor culturally sensitive when
working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The strength–based approach allows practitioners in recognizing that every individual has a unique
set of strengths and abilities which can be relied upon to overcome problems (Brun, 2001). From a
service users perspective, it is about drawing from strengths and participating towards an outcome
that will affect their life in a positive way. According to Gooda (2010) effective participation must
make certain decisions reflect the desires and worldviews of the Indigenous peoples affected, and
are made in accordance with free, prior and informed consent. Using strength based approach could
give the service user confidence in knowing that they are actively participating in finding an
outcome that is beneficial to

Maya Angelo Essay
If I could have the honor of meeting that one person it would be Maya Angelo. She was an
inspirational and phenomenal woman of her decade. Not only was she an actress and poet, she was a
mother too. Maya Angelo was a beautiful black woman in her time that stood for what was just. She
experienced slavery, and even endured it. Her legacy and history is passed on through many of her
books like "I know why the caged bird sings", or through her poems such as "A raisin in the sun"
and "phenomenal woman".
Thanks to her tenacity and considerateness this younger generation that I am growing up in can visit
the past time and time again through her magnificent writings. Maya Angelo style of writing was
very different from the many black authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her words always leave me in deep thought while stimulating my brain. Maya Angelo's readings are
full of advice and wisdom that comes from a woman who is three times my age. That's priceless
information, Right? I can remember when I was an even younger girl growing up in grade school
and in church. Every time there was a talent show or some major event where one would have to
stand in front of a crowd and prove themselves. I would always choose one of Maya Angelo's sassy,
tongue–twisting poems that was sure to get the audience excited and involved. One thing my sister
and I were sure of was that choosing a selection by Ms. Angelo we couldn't go wrong or
embarrassed. In my opinion, Maya Angelo is a strong and witty African–American woman who
blessed the world with her thoughts through different writing pieces. She is a role model to me,
because she speaks the truth. Maya Angelo has been the winner of the Noble Peace Prize and is a
renowned best–selling author. I say ask anyone about her and they will know of her, or at least her
writings.
I would defiantly love the opportunity to meet Maya Angelo to really try and pick her brain. I would
ask her how she endured the hard times, or what her inspiration as a young woman growing up was.
I would even try and ease a few personal informal questions in such as, what did you do for fun on a
Friday night, or what was your dream career. I could only imagine how delighted, encouraged and
uplifted I would feel

Greys Anatomy Analysis
As society undergoes a progressive change in the media and sexuality sector, there has been an
increase in the "queering" of characters across all media platforms, most specifically film and
television. Furthermore, in order to better understand the changes that have been ongoing in recent
years, I looked at ABC Studio Production's hit drama series Grey's Anatomy. Shonda Rhimes
created the Golden Globe winning series, which first aired in March of 2005 and is still running
today. In addition to creating the show, Rhimes serves as an executive producer along with Betsy
Beers, Mark Gordon, Tony Phelan, Joan Rater and Rob Corn. Further, the reason I selected this
example was because I am a dedicated fan of the show and also because the show has ... Show more

It is especially compelling given the viewership saw a significant increase when Torres was going
discovering her true sexuality. Additionally, it was courageous of ABC studios and the shows
producers alike to incorporate a character that by statics was not socially accepted. However, the
show brought awareness to the topic and likely aided in many peoples acceptance of same–sex
relationships. All in all, Callie Torres is a poster image of what it is for the media to "queer" a

Personal Narrative : The Love Of My Life : A Short Story
It's October 8th, just a normal Sunday, a work day. I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down on the
soft, grey couch. The House 51 alarm suddenly started blaring like a song being played over and
over again on the radio, calling all trucks and ambulances to several different places, which meant
that this fire was going to be dangerous and that it was going to spread very quickly. Everyone
chaotically puts on their big black and yellow brush pants, steps into their wide, rubber boots, grabs
their safety helmets and piles into the long scarlet red trucks. As we drive out of the house, I hear

what I had just heard. My emotions got the best of me as I felt a single tear come down the right

what condition she's going to be in as I find her. Finding the love of my life not breathing was not
even the worst one I could come up with. Finding her trapped and in pain was the worst possible

Brokeback Mountain Analysis
Jingyi Weng
College of Staten Island
Page Break The movie "Brokeback Mountain" directed by Ang Lee, reinforces and prolongs
harmful stereotypes toward homosexual. The main characters are Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist,
who are hired as sheepherders on Brokeback Mountain in Wyoming of 1963. They are strangers at
first, then they find a deeper connection after a heavy drinking one night. Therefore, their sexual and
emotional relationship creates a dilemma for them. After Jack and Ennis eventually part ways, Ennis
is settled in Wyoming with his wife, Alma Beers and two girls, while Jack moves to Texas and
marries his wife, Lureen Newsome and has a son. After four years, Jack visits Ennis. They are faced
with a dilemma, which they undeniably need each other, and unsure of what to do. Jack invite Ennis
of creating a life together on a small ranch, but Ennis refuses. Since he was haunted by a childhood
memory of the torture and murder of two men suspected of homosexual behavior (Dewanontons,
2017). Therefore, they continue to meet for infrequent fishing trips. The relationship struggles on for
years until Ennis heard the tragedy that Jack died in an accident when a tire he was changing
exploded. Ennis imagines that Jack is actually beaten by a gang of the thug for hate crime, the same
fate that Ennis fears. Ennis travels to meet with Jack's parents and offers to take Jack's ashes to the
mountain, however, the father refuses. (Brokeback Mountain, 2005).
This extends the stereotypes of the LGBTQ communities. Throughout the film, Ennis and Jack play
the role of homosexuality, which is forbidden in the society of 1963. Thus, Jack's approaches to
Ennis are horrifying. Despite, they develop a sexual and emotional relationship, Jack eagers for
more and invites Ennis to live with him. The stereotype draws on this group is gay men want all
men. After Jack broke up with Ennis during his second attempt of invitation, he is desired to begin
an affair with another man. Therefore, this group of people is targeting toward gay men have a
strong desire for sex.
This movie also reinforces oppression through violence. Ennis is characterized as a coward. He was
afraid to be "coming out" because he remembers how people were poorly

The National Apology to the "Stolen Generations". At first arrival to Australia, my knowledge about
history of Indigenous Australians and in particular about "Stolen Generations" was limited. After
research, I have leant about history of Australia's First Peoples and the struggles they have faced. In
February 2008 Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered an apology to the "Stolen Generations" that
was addressed to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who had been forcibly
removed from their families under government policies. The National Apology to the Stolen

Discuss How Shakespeare Uses Language and Dramatic...
Discuss how Shakespeare uses language and dramatic techniques for character development in Act
2 Scene 2 of Measure for Measure. Shakespeare uses a variety of linguistic devices and dramatic
techniques for character development from Act 2 Scene 2 to Scene 4. We see Angelo's precise,
business–like persona transform to temptation, and final cruelty whilst we see the true, confident
side of Isabella as as she attempts to convince Angelo to reverse his judgement, but eventually loses
her ignorant hope on the realisation of his true 'purpose'. In Act 2 Scene 2 Shakespeare portrays
Angelo as precise, intelligently dealing with the pleas of Isabella to save the life of her brother by
reversing the death sentence that has been handed down to him. ... Show more content on

Comparing the characters of Angelo and Isabella, one could argue that Isabella is 'the symbol of
goodness and mercy set against a background of moral decay'. Alternatively, one could see her
character as self–righteous and hypocritical, as we later discover when she values her chastity
higher than her brother's life. Isabella continues arguing with Angelo until he finally relents and tells
her to come back the next day to hear his judgement. Everyone leaves, and Angelo speaks a rather
striking soliloquy, apparently talking to himself '...what art thou Angelo? Dost thou desire her foully
for those things that make her good?'. Thus, through Shakespeare's staging, we learn that Angelo
admits to himself that he is in love with Isabella because of her virtue and purity. Often characters in
Shakespeare's plays have soliloquies but they do not often refer to themselves in third person and
when they do, it is often a sign of madness. Perhaps Shakespeare is suggesting this as a sign for
Angelo. What is certain is that he is struggling with an inward battle between what he knows he
should do and what he desires to do, as his develops and starts questioning the morality of his own
character. It is with great irony that Isabella's call to Angelo to mark the weaknesses in his own heart
is answered by Angelo's acknowledgement that he is tempted by Isabella. It is this temptation that
brings from Angelo his first

The Role Of Aboriginal History In Western Australia
Indigenous Australians have lived in this land for approximately 60,000 years, it's believed they
migrated from Africa to Australia through southern Asia. In 1770 Capitan James Cook, arrived in
Australia from England and claimed the land in the name of the United Kingdom, from that time
onwards British settlers took Aboriginal's land, resources, displace their people and pretty much
destroyed their culture.
City of Gosnells Western Australia original inhabitants were the Beeloo Nyungar Aboriginal People.

In the 1840s Europeans living in the colonies confront and imprison Aborigines, take their land and
force them to work as cheap labour.

The Character Of Barnardine In Measure For Measure By...
At first glance, it seems like the character of Barnardine in Measure for Measure is not an important
one. Unlike the main characters of the play, Barnardine has no more than 13 lines, and it does not
seem like his existence drives the play in any way. Barnardine provides a comedic break in a
comedy that seems more like a tragedy, and without further analysis, it does not seem like the
character has much to offer. However, in many ways, Barnardine is the key character in the play.
Through Barnardine and some of his parallaxes with Claudio, the reader dives into the flaws in the
Duke's character that until act 4 seems almost perfect. The Duke is presented as responsible, all–
knowing, and incredibly smart. However, Barnardine highlights the Duke's clumsiness,
powerlessness, and irrelevantly. Barnardine continues to shed light on the corruption of Vienna's
legal system and goes as far as painting the reader as a hypocrite.
Barnardine's character demonstrates the change in the Duke's severity through his years as a ruler by
highlighting how clueless the Duke actually is regarding Barnardine's situation. In the first scene of
act one, the Duke is portrayed as the embodiment of responsibility. As he leaves for his fake
vacation, he makes certain to leave someone to fill his position in his absence. Moreover, Angelo
seems like the right choice. The Duke's praises, Angelo's gracefulness, even his angelic name,
provide the reader with a sense of trust. Although the Duke is

Essay on Abstinence and Orgy in Measure for Measure
Abstinence and Orgy in Measure for Measure
Many existing views of Measure for Measure seem intriguing but incomplete. They might reinforce
our perception of this play as fragmented and baffling, because they do not integrate apparently
conflicting outlooks presented in the play's Vienna, and generated by the mysterious action of
Vincentio. Notice how the following different interpretations display the conflicts: the extreme view
proposed by Roy Battenhouse that the Duke stands for God (Rossiter 108–28); the modified
position of Elizabeth Marie Pope that the Duke is a successful magistrate with divinely–delegated
powers ("Renaissance" 66–82), almost in line with Eliade's version of a receding sky–god replaced
by a local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The context of theology provides one key to this analysis. Thomas Morton's translation of Calvin's
The Institution of Christian Religion, for example, asserts a tripartite division of temptation as a trial
in which God tests us by offering lures; the devil then assails the weakened individuals; and
evildoers consequently seek to take advantage of the afflicted (75–77). Thomas Tymme's A
Commentarie of John Caluine, vpon the first booke of Moses called Genesis also describes God's
role in temptation as that of putting us "to a serious triall" in order to test faith (473). And Thomas
Taylor's Christs Combate and Conquest notes that God may tempt us by sending "afflictions," by
pronouncing a "speciall commandement," or by "occasioning objects"–lures. These divinely–
ordained temptations occur for "a proofe what is in vs, and a tryall what we doe" (69). It is the
divine prerogative to "assay" humanity, and the human duty to obey God.
One who assumes this prerogative to test another's character by occasioning temptation–who
experiments with others while pretending to be sacrosanct–is presumptuous. And pride–the very
medieval/Augustinian "pride of life"–is the Duke's failing in arrogating to himself the power to
tempt Angelo. Vincentio has appeared to some as erring and inconsistent, and to others as a deific
incarnation for the same reason: the

For my field report I chose to visit The Centro Cultural de la Raza located in Balboa Park. The
Centro Cultural de la Raza was established in 1970 and completed in 1985. It was created in order
to preserve, promote, and educate about Mexican, Chicano, Indigenous and Latin culture and art.
When I arrived at the Centro I was greeted by a volunteer by the name of Bertha "Birdie" Gutierrez
who has been a volunteer there for five years, I asked for a tour of the establishment. Birdie is also a
jewelry designer and sells pieces she creates that are Chicano inspired there. She does this in order

mural "La dualidad" has a strong connection to the history of our people. When the mural was
completed in 1985 and it stood 16 feet tall and 46 feet wide. There is a tremendous amount of
symbolism within the mural that depicts significant historical events and ideas from our past. The
mural is divided into three parts, the left, right, and center. The left side is called "El Mundo de

old he took over as Tiatuani. He led his warriors in a resistance of Tenochtitlan, the battle was called

A Short Story : A Story?
I woke up early with a start. Was I Sarah or Gwen? Frantically, like a flustered maiden rushing to
her window to see if her lover returned home, I wrapped my comforter around myself and raced to
the mirror. Thank goodness! I was still Gwen. Yes! Yes! A smile stretched across my pretty dainty
face, I was eagerly excited at the prospect that the day would hold. Like a clumsy lunatic, I
scrambled to my closet. Today I was determined to be cute, as cute as was possible! Bingo! Tight
summer dress, I would have to pin it tighter. Jackpot! Painful cute high heels, check. Lucky charms!
That's what I would eat for breakfast today. Backtrack, Backtrack, I needed a bra, well I guess my
mom's was holding up decently, it looked good on the outside, but it still required a lot of safety
pins. Now I just needed a touch of makeup and a hair curler. Roughly two hours later, I entered the
kitchen–pinning the dress and a bra took the majority of the time. Greeting me were wide staring
eyes and a clanking, falling sound of a spoon. "You spilled milk on your shirt, muskrat," I pointed to
Ben. "Oh, and you might want to pick up your spoon. But don't use it, three–second rule and your
three seconds are already up." "Sar–uh, Gwen, dear," said my mom clearing her throat, "don't you
look a little too dressed up today?" "I don't think so," I said examining my outfit. "I just threw this
together." Okay, so the dress was a little above the knees but it wasn't my fault, I was taller now,

Thelma and Louise
"Thelma and Louise" dramatises the ongoing battle of the sexes, or rather, women's struggle against
men in a patriarchal society. This was the only reason for its success. Write a review of the film in
which you comment on this statement.
The feminist film "Thelma and Louise" was produced in 1991. This production was directed by
Ridley Scott and the screenplay was written by Callie Khouri. It starred various actresses and actors.
In the main roles were Geena Davis (Thelma) and Susan Sarandon (Louise). Other roles were
played by Brad Pitt (JD), Harvey Keitel (Hal), Michael Madsen (Jimmy) and lastly Christopher

The film portrays the life of two young best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

showed the powerful and strong world of women and it was nice to see two women fighting and

Inequality in society has a very powerful effect on the media as there are a number of different TV
programmes that relate to the life of women only. Take, for example, "Sex and the City." This
programme is based around four successful young women, all of whom are having wonderful
independent lives with a great careers and fantastic lives, showing women that they can do the same.
Another example of a TV Programme is "Murder, she wrote." This programme is based around a
woman detective. It is unique as the detective is a woman and she is successful in her line of work,
most people would be stereotypical and think that only men can do the detective work. Another
example of women in the media, is that of an article on testosterone, which appeared in the Daily
Mail. A journalist explains how women were injecting themselves with this dangerous substance in
order to boost their confidence and brain–power. Even

Giving my students the opportunity to participate in such protocols and be exposed to aboriginal
terms of reference means that they come to understand an aboriginal worldview, which is an
important step towards reconciliation. In collaboration with the Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO)
and the families of the students in my class, I look to explicitly incorporate protocols into the daily
activities and strengthen links to the community. I look to remove the separation that exists between
the two cultures and allow my students to become sensitised at a very young age to the Indigenous
culture. In a similar way to the efforts of the first school of Annabella, who sought to bridge the gap
between the two cultures by teaching the local language first then English, I would look to
incorporate the local Dharug language into the classroom (Groome and Garner, 1993). By
incorporating Yunkaporta's 8 ways of learning, specifically the story sharing and community links
aspects, I help to connect learning to real life purposes and contexts (Christie 1986, as cited in

Indigenous culture by having a group time mat in the middle of the room to replicate the yarning

Gender In Othello
So Othello explores the element of male bravado in the vicinity of other men. Meanwhile, Measure

And it offers insights on the uphill battle women face in a professional setting. So there were many
reports of female Uber employees receiving emails from a manager. He would state that he's in an
open relationship with his wife and inquire each recipient to sleep with him (Ruiz, par. 4). As you
would expect, the women brought these unsettling offers to HR. Besides, they would more than
classify as sexual harassment. But on each occasion, a representative dismissed the accusation. And
they cited this behavior as a one–time incident from the manager (Ruiz, par. 5). Of course, that
claim was false since each woman who the man contact received that exact response from HR. But
one woman's documentation, in particular, show a deeply sexist mentality within Uber. A few
months after HR shrugged her off, she applied for a transfer to another team. But her management
team kept offering vague excuses for why she couldn't leave. It would be something like not having
an "upward career trajectory." Or she wasn't "technical enough" (Fowler, par. 6). Now, there are
three things to keep in mind. One, she had perfect performance reviews. Two, she never missed a
deadline. And three, other teams were showing an interest in her (Fowler, par. 7). So those factors
prove her skills were greater than what management was admitting. Plus, as she later found out,
they wanted her to stay around for appearance reason. The

The Immense Changes That Aboriginal People Endured During...
Whether or not Aboriginal people had left the land to dry for itself is not our concern here. Nor is
the aim of this paper to prove the English were right in claiming sovereignty over Australian land,
since there is much proof they hadn't even been the first Europeans to meet with "terra nullius".
Nevertheless, as history speaks for itself, there's clear evidence Aboriginal people endured immense
changes during colonization years, on the land where they stood, cultures unshaken, for thousands
of years, before Europe had a say in that. Indeed, what we aim for is to examine some ideas
perpetrated along the years in regards to the devastating effects that emerged once the first ship of
colonizers arrived.
"We've had this debate about Australia was a terra nullius and it was a wasted landscape and people
hadn't used it and hadn't farmed it. They've discovered that it probably supported 1.6 bilion lives and
that's how productive Aboriginal people were able to make this part of the Earth which has the most
irregular and unreliable rain fall and the driest continent on Earth." As historian Janet McCalman
(First Australians, Episode 1, 2008) presents her introduction, there's a smile flashing over her face.
It's an ironic smile almost as though she's to say if "terra nullius" was what you claimed for
sovereignty, well then, Aboriginal people have proved you wrong. And, indeed, if we consider the
extend of time people had inhabited this continent long before the interference of

The Gap Between Aboriginal And Torres
Theory assessment 1. I plan to close the gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people
and between non–Indigenous people by putting in place strategies that advocate cultural inclusivity.
The first strategies I would use would be would be to make people aware. Being aware of the local
aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander communality. Also being aware of their local heritage. When
the centre is aware of the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander community and the issues they
may have. The centre can work in partnership with the Aboriginal and Torrs Straight island
community to provide the best care for them. The next strategy I would use would be to provide
great communication skills. This is to provide and understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres
Straight Islander community. The best way to communicate is to be a good listener, and being open
when you communicate. I would also recommend these strategies when communicating with
Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders: –Treat everyone as an individual –Being with a
relationship of trust –Use of a mentor –Use preferred local name for Indigenous people –
Acknowledge country –Be and active listener –Seek more than one opinion –Relationship first –Use
eye contract in a culturally appropriate way –Use silence positively –Men's and women's business –
Indigenous language –Become skilled at difficult interactions For strategy number three, I would
make sure that the centre is accessible and inclusive. I would work

Statistics can show evidence in ranking which player is worth talking about. A person who bases
their favorite basketball team by statistics can easily back up their information by showing numbers.
No matter what any other person can throw at them, they will be quick to mention how many

index finger taps on my cheek.
The melody from my phone interrupts my thoughts. I twist in my seat as if I 'll be able to see the
caller id from here. The phone illuminates, but the caller remains a secret. In fascination, I watch it
snake its way along the sofa as it vibrates. It could be Alice. However, I 'm not interested in
speaking with her. After a while, the phone silences. Voicemail must have picked up the call. I slide
off the stool and amble across the room to retrieve my phone. One missed call, no voicemail. The
phone vibrates and sings in my hand, startling me. Angelo 's name flashes on the screen. The
hummingbird, who took up residence in my chest since meeting Angelo, beats her wings. My body
quivers in anticipation to answer the call, to hear his voice.
"Eva? Eva, are you there?" He sounds concerned. That's new, refreshing even.
"Yes, I'm here," I say, keeping my voice calm and uncaring.
"You didn't show up today."
I bite on my lip.
"I figured it was about the poker game brawl. There 's no need to be scared, they wouldn't hurt you."
How would he know? Can he read minds? They were all set to shoot his brother and he told me I
had to sing to calm them all back down again.
"Eva?"
"What?" Did my voice sound cold then? I

Australia 's Health Status Of Indigenous Peoples
"There is an indisputable relationship between the enduring impact of colonisation and current
health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people" (Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet,
2016). The society of Indigenous peoples have been affected by the British colonisation in 1788;
highlighted through all aspects of Aboriginal lifestyle, culture and beliefs being changed by the
'settlers'. (E. Bourke & Bourke, 1995) Over many years it has been an ongoing task to improve the
health status of Indigenous peoples in Australia, as there is a large difference in the health status of
Indigenous Australians compared to non–Indigenous Australians. (reference) The three key elements
which are believed to contribute to the current health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the breakdown of family and community groups made it difficult for Indigenous peoples to
have such support from family in times of stress, depression, disconnection from culture and society
etc. Therefore, if families and community groups are being constantly broken down the support
factor that comes from family is completely ruled out. In saying this, not being able to speak the
English language and being forbidden to speak their traditional language did not help during these
times as communication is an important tool when seeking support and comfort, making it difficult
to receive the support which Indigenous peoples required in these times. The breakdown of families
and communities also resulted in loss of connection to the country and land which was important to
Indigenous peoples (C. Bourke & Edwards, 1998). These historical issues mentioned are just some
of the many issues Indigenous peoples experienced which have now led to inequalities for
Indigenous peoples health and wellbeing. There is little knowledge about the specific cause of social
determinants of health in Indigenous peoples, but what is known is that in Indigenous peoples from
children through to adults elements of physical, emotional, mental and social wellbeing are assured
to be impacted by a large extent of social determinants (Reading & Wien, 2009). Some of

A Brief Note On Coronary Heart Disease ( Chd )
Introduction
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the obstruction of blood vessels that supply the heart muscle, due
to the deposition of lipid material [1]. Figure 1 illustrates various modifiable and non–modifiable
risk factors, influencing the prevalence of CHD within Australians.
Figure 1: Modifiable and non–modifiable risk factors affecting the prevalence of Coronary Heart
Disease in Australia
[19]
Modifiable Risk Factors Non–Modifiable Risk Factors
Obesity Increasing age
Hyperlipidemia Gender
Excessive alcohol and tobacco use Family history
Psychological stress Heredity
Prevalence of CHD over the past century
As shown in Figure 2 (Page 2), the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) observed a
73% decrease in mortality caused by CHD, between 1968 and 2011 [2]. More specifically, the
decline in the mortality rate occurred in the late 1960s, where these changes were most evidence in
males and females aged 55–64 and 65–74 years respectively [21]. As shown in Figure 3 and 4 (Page
2), the mortality rate in men aged 35–44 and 45–54 years declined at a decreasing rate, in contrast to
older men where the mortality rate had increased [21]. In women however, the rate of overall
decline had only been hindered in the 45–54 age category, as opposed to increasing in older age
groups [21]. Thus, over the past century, mortality rates have generally declined [2]. Although, this
rate of decline is gradually improving in older populations and deteriorating in younger

Essay on Exercise of Authority in Measure for Measure
At the outset, we find the Duke transferring his power and authority to Angelo. He lends to Angelo
his own terror and dresses Angelo with his love, "giving his deputation all the organs of his own
power". He says that from now on "mortality and mercy" in Vienna would live in Angelo's tongue
and heart. The Duke motive in appointing Angelo to function in his stead is, as he tells Friar
Thomas, to rid the country of the evils which have taken strong roots and which, he thinks, he
himself cannot eradicate because of his reputation as a very lenient man. Now the question is how
far the Duke is justified in appointing a substitute to rule the kingdom and reform the corrupt Vienna
society. We do not think that the Duke is justified in taking such ... Show more content on

Of course, Angelo does not realize the futility of the step which he is taking because he thinks that,
merely by banning prostitution, he would be able to put an end to this evil. Pimping and prostitution
are evils which can never be eradicated through legislation, just as the evil of alcoholism and drug–
taking cannot be ended by means of legislation. Evidently, Angelo believes in employing drastic
methods to eradicate evil. His belief in drastic methods of reform is particularly seen in his
sentencing Claudio to death on a charge of fornication. Now, there is no doubt at all that Claudio is
guilty of a serious moral lapse in having made a girl pregnant without having first married her. But
there are certain extenuating circumstances in Claudio's case; and Angelo errs in not taking into
consideration those extenuating circumstances. Angelo has revived certain laws which had remained
in disuse for several years, and he now proceeds to apply those laws in their full rigour. In other
words, he takes a literal and legalistic attitude towards the law (Marsh 141). He does not realize that
the sentence of death against a fornicator is too severe and that the law, which he has revived, needs
to be amended. He blindly applies the law to Claudio's case, thus showing a lack of realism. He is

Descriptive Essay On Walk To The Night
His eyes, those ocean pools penetrate my own, hypnotising me, that's all I see, just his eyes. I try to
avert my gaze, to search for Alice, but I can't move, my body is cased in stone. His voice, smooth
and enticing, commands me to move, and I obey. Where is he leading me? I can smell the ocean,
feel the cool breeze on my skin. As I glide my hands across my body, the cool silk of the blue dress
kisses my palms and fingertips. The coarse ground cuts into my naked feet. Where did my shoes go?
Did I leave them back at the apartment? I don't remember leaving my apartment, or meeting,
Angelo.
"Walk to the edge," Angelo commands. "Go on, walk to the edge."
I'm released from his gaze as he steps out of my view, giving me the opportunity to survey my
surroundings. At the water's edge, boats bob over waves that grow stronger, crashing against the
wall and soaking the ground. A few buildings kiss the skyline, too far for anyone to capture a
glimpse of us. The fierce sky looms overhead with dark grey clouds. Alice's was right, Angelo plans
to kill me, to dump my body in the ocean like all the other women.
With no control of my limbs, my feet walk to the edge, allowing me to peer into the murky, green
water dressed with whitecaps. A wave crashes against the wall, soaking me.
It's freezing. I inhale a
hard gasp of air as I throw my arms around myself in a failed attempt to warm my body. Why can't I
step back away from the edge? What's wrong with me? I'm aware of Angelo's presence

and loneliness of Callie Quinn by Callie's actions of not wanting to go to school and running away.
She runs away a lot to try to think about her future. "I wish you wouldn't run off to that laundromat

The main idea of the book "Where the Stars Still Shine" is about how Callie Quinn's life is affected
when her mom kidnaps her after Callie's parents divorce. As a child, when her parents were married
she had a normal and happy life. "He was hugging me when I was little. I was jumping off the porch
steps of wherever we were living when the three of us lived together. I fell off the third step and
skinned my knee. Greg was there to pick me up and wipe away the tears. We were a happy family."
(186) Callie reflects on the good times of when she was a young child. Her mom kidnapped her
after the divorce because she thought her dad, Greg, would never let her mom see Callie. Callie's
life with her mom consisted of traveling from apartment to apartment. Callie was often left
uncomfortable as her mom went or had dates with strange men. "I can't sleep when she brings men
home so I pull on my dirty jeans and cram on my feet into untied sneakers. Up on Union Avenue I
duck into the empty Super Wash." (2) This goes on throughout Callie's life as a teenager. At age 17,
her mom is caught and arrested. Callie is reunited with her dad and her life begins to change for the
better. When she first sees her dad, she is scared and confused by him. She hasn't seen him in 12

was so that my mom couldn't have me." (19) She soon realizes through conversations with her dad

Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander People Essay
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are a distinct traditional cultural group of the Australian
population. The historical wealth of the importance of contribution to country by the Indigenous
people of this nation is truly significant. At the Indigenous Future–Venture Research Institution
(IFVRI) we place at the forefront of our mission, the aim to develop and implement, through the in–
depth research and analysis of data, new material for awareness platforms and information that will
primarily lead to submission and contribution towards national Indigenous policy development and
future venture directions. Future research initiatives include within the scope of research areas the
sectors of education, health, economics, employment, cultural progress and most importantly the
future of Indigenous affairs and growth in Australia. Through the generational waves of Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people, society in this contemporary setting is an optimal environment for
the already established standards of child education as stable, safe and secure in regard to the
facilities that provide the opportunities for cultural and student–centred learning.
A key cultural motivation for the positive progress for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
starts from early childhood nurture. Indigenous cultural practices enable children at an early age to

Hermaphrodites and Society
Individuals are given the gift of life when they are born into this world. Many agree that everyone is
blessed and should not take their lives for granted. To be truly alive, individuals must be overjoyed
and pursue happiness. However, others would describe their lives as a joke. To be precise, many
would be ashamed of who they are. A very strong example of an ashamed soul would be Calliope,
the main protagonist of Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. In the story, Eugenides tells the tale of
Callie, who is supposedly a monster because she is a hermaphrodite. Being a hermaphrodite
indicates that someone has the sex organs associated with both genders. By definition, Callie is an
abnormal freak. Eugenides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her eyes, she is a grotesque beast that cannot even stand to stare at herself out of humiliation and
shame. Callie is absolutely alone and is surrounded by others who look at her with disgust and wide
eyes. Eugenides utilizes tone in the story to help readers develop sympathy and pity towards Callie.
All throughout the passage, the tone of the story is serious. Callie acknowledges that "her mother
was crying in the next room, and the doctors were working on Callie's disease in secret." The
statements convey that Callie's parents are also disappointed and ashamed of what their daughter
has become. Callie understands that her mother sheds tears thinking what she has done to deserve a
defected daughter. Callie's parents are so ashamed and overwhelmed that they took Callie to New
York to try and heal in secret instead of in the open. Callie's parents do not want others to see what
has happened to her out of concern for their daughter's social life as a normal individual. The
thoughts and emotions expressed give readers pity towards Callie and her condition. Callie muses
that "she longed to be held, caressed, which was impossible." Callie wishes to be comforted and
surrounded by others that loved and understood her. Unfortunately, Callie views herself so much
like a monster rather than an individual that she is too far long to be comforted by anyone. Readers

Callie Khouri's Thelma and Louise
Even in today's growing world of feminism, young girls, as well as grown women, are being taught
by the media to organize their lives around men. Their needs, expectations, work schedules, ideas,
and interests become second to the men in their lives. All too often the media associates power and
status to men, only to strengthen the barriers between the male and female genders. Take for
example Hollywood, where "women get only about a third of all movie and TV roles, and last year
earned less than male actors in all age categories..."(Eby, 1). And even though gender should not be
used as the determining factor of what one can and cannot do, Hollywood, as well as everywhere
else, has proven that the old habits of gender discrimination die ... Show more content on

This scene itself carries a great deal of symbolism. Harlan, the rapist who is eventually shot,
becomes a representation of all things that hold women back. He becomes the wall which holds
back women from fulfilling their "wishes, ambitions, pleasures, and impulses"(NY Times, 1991).
Thelma is who we are, a prisoner behind this wall and Louise is who we want to become... the
prisoner who breaks free and confronts those who held her back.
Another cathartic scene is that in which Thelma and Louise confront the truck driver who has been
harassing them the entire distance of their road trip. That truck driver is someone almost every
woman has dealt with at some time or another. "There is not a woman in the world who has not
dealt with that guy. He is out there in force, but when you're walking down the street and guys do
that, what you're supposed to do as a woman is ignore it"(LA Times, 1991). After ignoring the truck
driver throughout most of the movie, Thelma and Louise take a stand, not only for themselves but
also for all the women who have wished they could say something back, but haven't for whatever
reason it may be. All the suppressed emotions and unsaid words of both the woman on screen and
those sitting in the audience manifest themselves into an explosion which blows up the truck driver's
sense of power... not to mention the truck itself.

Povertyin the World
Poverty evokes various definitions depending on the audience and perhaps the purpose or context
that it is used. Limiting the definition of poverty to a 'value judgment' is of little use in terms of
agreeing on a definition for the purpose of comparison and measurement between groups (Sen 1979,
p.285). A clear definition of poverty supports and indicates the process for measurement, and as
such would also assist in determining the focus and approach for development (Clark 2012;
Ruggeri, Saith & Stewart 2006, p.19). In reviewing Oxfam Australia's (Oxfam) Close the Gap
campaign, it is necessary to identify the approach that is taken in defining poverty in order to gauge
the scope of the project, the development of the approach used, and to quantify the change that
occurs.
Oxfam itself has identified Close the Gap as a human rights campaign that aims to close the life
expectancy health gap of 10–17 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait within a generation (Holland
2014, p.46). Vizard in her exploration of Sen's capability approach (2005, p.24), emphasises the
marriage of capabilities with human rights, citing poverty as one of the key exclusions to
fundamental freedoms and human rights, thus expanding the definition of poverty into a
multidimensional one.
Health is one of the dimensions included in the rights approach, which suggests that the abuses of
human rights result in poverty and are also a result of poverty (OHCHR 2006, p.16). Along with a

How Climate Affect Eurasia
The Europeans had a climate where they were able to grow productive crops and domesticate
animals, creating a surplus of food, freeing some people from food production to become specialists
who were able to create advanced tools and weaponry. Because the Europeans had time, steel, and
immunity to smallpox, due to their exposure to domesticated animals, they could decimate
populations, appropriate there resources, and conquer the world. The first inequality that geography
caused was the development of agriculture in areas such as Eurasia, versus the lack of development
in places such as Papua New Guinea. Geographic location changes what crops can grow by
affecting the climate of the given area. The climate then affects what plants can grow ... Show more

In order for animals to live in an area, two basic needs have to be met by that location. First, the
climate in that area must conform with the climate the specific species needs to survive. As
explained previously, the climate of an area relates to its geographic location. This is why animals
such as polar bears live in Antarctica and Alaska, areas farther from the equator, which have less
sunlight and less warmth. The second requirement is that there has to be food which the animal is
able to digest. Animals such as cows, which depend on grass for food, would not be able to live in
an arid or desert–like environment. Grass just isn't going to grow there. This means that areas which
have prime conditions for containing domesticable animals, which just so happened to be Eurasia,
have a significant advantage in the form of technological development over areas which don't have
the right climate or the right foods to sustain domesticated animals. Because these animals provided
a sustainable source of food, as well as performing farming tasks such as pulling plows, they gave
societies with domesticable animals access to a very important resource, time. With that, these
societies were able to develop concepts such as art and to sustain specialists. Not all animals can be
domesticated. They have to be able to cooperate with humans and make economic sense. In order
for a species to be domesticable, it has to have the inclination to not attack or eat humans, otherwise,
the species could be dangerous to domesticate. Along with that comes the ability to actually control
the species. A species has to have a hierarchy–like social structure in order for humans to be able to
control a whole pack of animals, which is much more sensible than trying to train every individual
animal. They also need to be economically sensible.

The Media And The Role Of Media In The Media
Media is one of the most powerful institutions that play a role in how we view the world that we live
in. Often media may stereotype a certain group of people, which impacts how others view one other.
When the media does this, it further supports the division in society. While most media does this,
Grey's Anatomy is one that does the opposite. Through its portrayal of powerful people who would
typically be oppressed in society, Grey's Anatomy goes against refutes the social norms that we're

Just months after Kevin Rudd's apology in 2008, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper publicly

away from their families and cultures. Just like Australia's 'Stolen Generation', from the 19th century
until the late mid 1970s, more than 150,000 Canadian aboriginal children were required to attend
state–funded Christian schools as part of a program to strip them of their native culture and
assimilate them into Canadian society. In the apology it was said, "We now recognize that it was
wrong to separate children from rich and vibrant cultures and traditions, and that it created a void in
many lives and communities and we apologize," (Cbsnews.com, 2015). Then in 2013, US Senators

How Health Services Can Provide Culturally Safe Care
Kildea (2006) says that maternity care based on principles of Western models of health care have
not been able to improve maternal or perinatal outcomes and Molly Wardaguga, an Aboriginal
health worker and respected elder, states that inappropriate maternity care is responsible for the
social dysfunction and loss of culture often seen in Indigenous communities (Kildea, 2006). Until
this day Indigenous women have not had their voices heard or their knowledge recognised (Kildea,

holistic components from the Indigenous definition of health must be incorporated into maternity

Durey and Thompson (2012) explain that the act of balancing quality care and organisation
efficiency means that minimal resources are allocated to providing and improving appropriate
Indigenous health care. Unfortunately, this is a factor in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
women avoiding culturally unsafe care and aggravates the vicious cycle that leads to poor maternal
and perinatal outcomes (Kruske, Kildea & Barclay, 2006). One of the recommendations made by
the 'Close the Gap' campaign involves increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander health care workers (Kelly et al., 2014). It is thought that doing this will encourage more
Indigenous Australians to attend health care services and also promote cultural safety therefore
improving health outcomes for the Indigenous population (Kelly et al., 2014; Kildea, Kruske,
Barclay & Tracy, 2010). Increasing the number of trained Indigenous health care professionals will
require the support of institutions such as universities, health services and organisations responsible
for the distribution of scholarship funds (Kelly et al., 2014; Sherwood, 2013; Kildea, Kruske,

Aboriginal people believe their ancestors were created in Australia at a time in the past called the
dreaming (Kohen, 2006). Aboriginal people have been in Australia more than 50,000 to 120,000

Red Dog Australian Identity
Australian people and culture are often stereotyped in the media in different forms, one of them
being film. The two films being examined, 'Red dog' (2011) and the 'Sapphires' (2012), are an
example of the Australian identity but from different points of view. 'Red dog' shows the kind and
positive side which exemplifies mateship and loyalty. The film 'Sapphires' ,which takes place in the
1950's through to the 1960's, shows a negative and racist view towards the indigenous people. Both
the films show different aspects of the Australian identity, not all insights of the films accurately
represent contemporary Australian identity as the Australian identity has changed by the evolution
of people and their lifestyle. The film 'Red dog' focuses on the life of a dog and how he affects the
lives of those around him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a person who is friendly, faithful and loyal and strives to find a solution in any tight
situation. This 'true blue' persona is represented by several characters in the film 'Red dog' including
the dog himself as he shows companionship and resilience throughout the film. The community
working there also represent the Australian identity by treating Red Dog like one of them even when
Red Dog was injured everyone was worried about him as if he was a human being. An addition to
these themes 'Red dog' is set in the Australian outback were Australia is shown as dry dessert, a
common misconception which is inaccurate of Australian land. Today the majority of the Australian
population live in cities where they are close to their jobs and other facilities therefore this aspect of
the film does not properly represent contemporary Australian society. Although the notion of
mateship and the virtues of the characters in 'Red dog' are accurate representations of the ideal
version of the modern Australian identity, the darker side of Australian culture and history is
completely

The service will be based in Kingaroy and provide services throughout the South Burnett region. This submission of funding will join in partnership with a local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agency. The information was gathered from a variety of sources. Holistic Services The proposed aim of the services should be holistic while addressing social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who facilitate services offered by the agency. Following a Western approach to social and emotional well–being will not be productive nor culturally sensitive when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. ... The strength–based approach allows practitioners in recognizing that every individual has a unique set of strengths and abilities which can be relied upon to overcome problems (Brun, 2001). According to Gooda (2010) effective participation must make certain decisions reflect the desires and worldviews of the Indigenous peoples affected, and are made in accordance with free, prior and informed consent. • 3. Maya Angelo Essay If I could have the honor of meeting that one person it would be Maya Angelo. She was an inspirational and phenomenal woman of her decade. Not only was she an actress and poet, she was a mother too. Maya Angelo was a beautiful black woman in her time that stood for what was just. She experienced slavery, and even endured it. Her legacy and history is passed on through many of her books like "I know why the caged bird sings", or through her poems such as "A raisin in the sun" and "phenomenal woman". Thanks to her tenacity and considerateness this younger generation that I am growing up in can visit the past time and time again through her magnificent writings. Maya Angelo style of writing was very different from the many black authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her words always leave me in deep thought while stimulating my brain. Maya Angelo's readings are full of advice and wisdom that comes from a woman who is three times my age. That's priceless information, Right? I can remember when I was an even younger girl growing up in grade school and in church. Every time there was a talent show or some major event where one would have to stand in front of a crowd and prove themselves. I would always choose one of Maya Angelo's sassy, tongue–twisting poems that was sure to get the audience excited and involved. One thing my sister and I were sure of was that choosing a selection by Ms. Angelo we couldn't go wrong or embarrassed. In my opinion, Maya Angelo is a strong and witty African–American woman who blessed the world with her thoughts through different writing pieces. She is a role model to me, because she speaks the truth. Maya Angelo has been the winner of the Noble Peace Prize and is a renowned best–selling author. I say ask anyone about her and they will know of her, or at least her writings. I would defiantly love the opportunity to meet Maya Angelo to really try and pick her brain. I would ask her how she endured the hard times, or what her inspiration as a young woman growing up was. I would even try and ease a few personal informal questions in such as, what did you do for fun on a Friday night, or what was your dream career. Greys Anatomy Analysis As society undergoes a progressive change in the media and sexuality sector, there has been an increase in the "queering" of characters across all media platforms, most specifically film and television. Furthermore, in order to better understand the changes that have been ongoing in recent years, I looked at ABC Studio Production's hit drama series Grey's Anatomy. Shonda Rhimes created the Golden Globe winning series, which first aired in March of 2005 and is still running today. In addition to creating the show, Rhimes serves as an executive producer along with Betsy Beers, Mark Gordon, Tony Phelan, Joan Rater and Rob Corn. Further, the reason I selected this example was because I am a dedicated fan of the show and also because the show has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is especially compelling given the viewership saw a significant increase when Torres was going discovering her true sexuality. Additionally, it was courageous of ABC studios and the shows producers alike to incorporate a character that by statics was not socially accepted. I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down on the soft, grey couch. The House 51 alarm suddenly started blaring like a song being played over and over again on the radio, calling all trucks and ambulances to several different places, which meant that this fire was going to be dangerous and that it was going to spread very quickly. Everyone chaotically puts on their big black and yellow brush pants, steps into their wide, rubber boots, grabs their safety helmets and piles into the long scarlet red trucks. As we drive out of the house, I hear Main say Gabby's law office's address over the radio. My heart skipped a beat as I tried to process what I had just heard. My emotions got the best of me as I felt a single tear come down the right side of my face. It was nothing like I've ever felt before, breaking my ankle in the car accident months ago didn't even compare to what I'm feeling right now, in this moment. I could feel my heart beating out of my chest as I got lost in my thoughts on the way to the office, making up scenarios of what condition she's going to be in as I find her. Finding the love of my life not breathing was not even the worst one I could come up with. Finding her trapped and in pain was the worst possible one, I would rather take her suffering than to watch her in suffer. • 6. Brokeback Mountain Analysis Jingyi Weng College of Staten Island Page Break The movie "Brokeback Mountain" directed by Ang Lee, reinforces and prolongs harmful stereotypes toward homosexual. The main characters are Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist, who are hired as sheepherders on Brokeback Mountain in Wyoming of 1963. They are strangers at first, then they find a deeper connection after a heavy drinking one night. Therefore, their sexual and emotional relationship creates a dilemma for them. After Jack and Ennis eventually part ways, Ennis is settled in Wyoming with his wife, Alma Beers and two girls, while Jack moves to Texas and marries his wife, Lureen Newsome and has a son. After four years, Jack visits Ennis. They are faced with a dilemma, which they undeniably need each other, and unsure of what to do. Jack invite Ennis of creating a life together on a small ranch, but Ennis refuses. Since he was haunted by a childhood memory of the torture and murder of two men suspected of homosexual behavior (Dewanontons, 2017). Therefore, they continue to meet for infrequent fishing trips. The relationship struggles on for years until Ennis heard the tragedy that Jack died in an accident when a tire he was changing exploded. Ennis imagines that Jack is actually beaten by a gang of the thug for hate crime, the same fate that Ennis fears. Ennis travels to meet with Jack's parents and offers to take Jack's ashes to the mountain, however, the father refuses. (Brokeback Mountain, 2005). This extends the stereotypes of the LGBTQ communities. Throughout the film, Ennis and Jack play the role of homosexuality, which is forbidden in the society of 1963. Thus, Jack's approaches to Ennis are horrifying. Despite, they develop a sexual and emotional relationship, Jack eagers for more and invites Ennis to live with him. The stereotype draws on this group is gay men want all men. After Jack broke up with Ennis during his second attempt of invitation, he is desired to begin an affair with another man. Therefore, this group of people is targeting toward gay men have a strong desire for sex. This movie also reinforces oppression through violence. Ennis is characterized as a coward. At first arrival to Australia, my knowledge about history of Indigenous Australians and in particular about "Stolen Generations" was limited. In February 2008 Prime Minister Kevin Rudd delivered an apology to the "Stolen Generations" that was addressed to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who had been forcibly removed from their families under government policies. • 8. Discuss How Shakespeare Uses Language and Dramatic... Discuss how Shakespeare uses language and dramatic techniques for character development in Act 2 Scene 2 of Measure for Measure. Shakespeare uses a variety of linguistic devices and dramatic techniques for character development from Act 2 Scene 2 to Scene 4. We see Angelo's precise, business–like persona transform to temptation, and final cruelty whilst we see the true, confident side of Isabella as as she attempts to convince Angelo to reverse his judgement, but eventually loses her ignorant hope on the realisation of his true 'purpose'. In Act 2 Scene 2 Shakespeare portrays Angelo as precise, intelligently dealing with the pleas of Isabella to save the life of her brother by reversing the death sentence that has been handed down to him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comparing the characters of Angelo and Isabella, one could argue that Isabella is 'the symbol of goodness and mercy set against a background of moral decay'. Alternatively, one could see her character as self–righteous and hypocritical, as we later discover when she values her chastity higher than her brother's life. Isabella continues arguing with Angelo until he finally relents and tells her to come back the next day to hear his judgement. Everyone leaves, and Angelo speaks a rather striking soliloquy, apparently talking to himself '...what art thou Angelo? Dost thou desire her foully for those things that make her good?'. Thus, through Shakespeare's staging, we learn that Angelo admits to himself that he is in love with Isabella because of her virtue and purity. Often characters in Shakespeare's plays have soliloquies but they do not often refer to themselves in third person and when they do, it is often a sign of madness. Perhaps Shakespeare is suggesting this as a sign for Angelo. What is certain is that he is struggling with an inward battle between what he knows he should do and what he desires to do, as his develops and starts questioning the morality of his own character. It is with great irony that Isabella's call to Angelo to mark the weaknesses in his own heart is answered by Angelo's acknowledgement that he is tempted by Isabella. It is this temptation that brings from Angelo his first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Character Of Barnardine In Measure For Measure By... At first glance, it seems like the character of Barnardine in Measure for Measure is not an important one. Unlike the main characters of the play, Barnardine has no more than 13 lines, and it does not seem like his existence drives the play in any way. Barnardine provides a comedic break in a comedy that seems more like a tragedy, and without further analysis, it does not seem like the character has much to offer. However, in many ways, Barnardine is the key character in the play. Through Barnardine and some of his parallaxes with Claudio, the reader dives into the flaws in the Duke's character that until act 4 seems almost perfect. The Duke is presented as responsible, all– knowing, and incredibly smart. However, Barnardine highlights the Duke's clumsiness, powerlessness, and irrelevantly. Barnardine continues to shed light on the corruption of Vienna's legal system and goes as far as painting the reader as a hypocrite. Barnardine's character demonstrates the change in the Duke's severity through his years as a ruler by highlighting how clueless the Duke actually is regarding Barnardine's situation. In the first scene of act one, the Duke is portrayed as the embodiment of responsibility. As he leaves for his fake vacation, he makes certain to leave someone to fill his position in his absence. Moreover, Angelo seems like the right choice. The Duke's praises, Angelo's gracefulness, even his angelic name, provide the reader with a sense of trust. Although the Duke is ... • 11. Essay on Abstinence and Orgy in Measure for Measure Abstinence and Orgy in Measure for Measure Many existing views of Measure for Measure seem intriguing but incomplete. They might reinforce our perception of this play as fragmented and baffling, because they do not integrate apparently conflicting outlooks presented in the play's Vienna, and generated by the mysterious action of Vincentio. Notice how the following different interpretations display the conflicts: the extreme view proposed by Roy Battenhouse that the Duke stands for God (Rossiter 108–28); the modified position of Elizabeth Marie Pope that the Duke is a successful magistrate with divinely–delegated powers ("Renaissance" 66–82), almost in line with Eliade's version of a receding sky–god replaced by a local ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The context of theology provides one key to this analysis. Thomas Morton's translation of Calvin's The Institution of Christian Religion, for example, asserts a tripartite division of temptation as a trial in which God tests us by offering lures; the devil then assails the weakened individuals; and evildoers consequently seek to take advantage of the afflicted (75–77). Thomas Tymme's A Commentarie of John Caluine, vpon the first booke of Moses called Genesis also describes God's role in temptation as that of putting us "to a serious triall" in order to test faith (473). And Thomas Taylor's Christs Combate and Conquest notes that God may tempt us by sending "afflictions," by pronouncing a "speciall commandement," or by "occasioning objects"–lures. These divinely– ordained temptations occur for "a proofe what is in vs, and a tryall what we doe" (69). It is the divine prerogative to "assay" humanity, and the human duty to obey God. One who assumes this prerogative to test another's character by occasioning temptation–who experiments with others while pretending to be sacrosanct–is presumptuous. And pride–the very medieval/Augustinian "pride of life"–is the Duke's failing in arrogating to himself the power to tempt Angelo. Vincentio has appeared to some as erring and inconsistent, and to others as a deific incarnation for the same reason: the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Besides, they would more than classify as sexual harassment. But on each occasion, a representative dismissed the accusation. Nor is the aim of this paper to prove the English were right in claiming sovereignty over Australian land, since there is much proof they hadn't even been the first Europeans to meet with "terra nullius". Nevertheless, as history speaks for itself, there's clear evidence Aboriginal people endured immense changes during colonization years, on the land where they stood, cultures unshaken, for thousands of years, before Europe had a say in that. Indeed, what we aim for is to examine some ideas perpetrated along the years in regards to the devastating effects that emerged once the first ship of colonizers arrived. "We've had this debate about Australia was a terra nullius and it was a wasted landscape and people hadn't used it and hadn't farmed it. They've discovered that it probably supported 1.6 bilion lives and that's how productive Aboriginal people were able to make this part of the Earth which has the most irregular and unreliable rain fall and the driest continent on Earth." As historian Janet McCalman (First Australians, Episode 1, 2008) presents her introduction, there's a smile flashing over her face. In saying this, not being able to speak the English language and being forbidden to speak their traditional language did not help during these times as communication is an important tool when seeking support and comfort, making it difficult to receive the support which Indigenous peoples required in these times. The breakdown of families and communities also resulted in loss of connection to the country and land which was important to Indigenous peoples (C. Bourke & Edwards, 1998). As shown in Figure 3 and 4 (Page 2), the mortality rate in men aged 35–44 and 45–54 years declined at a decreasing rate, in contrast to older men where the mortality rate had increased [21]. In women however, the rate of overall decline had only been hindered in the 45–54 age category, as opposed to increasing in older age groups [21]. The historical wealth of the importance of contribution to country by the Indigenous people of this nation is truly significant. At the Indigenous Future–Venture Research Institution (IFVRI) we place at the forefront of our mission, the aim to develop and implement, through the in– depth research and analysis of data, new material for awareness platforms and information that will primarily lead to submission and contribution towards national Indigenous policy development and future venture directions. Through the generational waves of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, society in this contemporary setting is an optimal environment for the already established standards of child education as stable, safe and secure in regard to the facilities that provide the opportunities for cultural and student–centred learning. A key cultural motivation for the positive progress for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people starts from early childhood nurture. • 30. Middlesex Essay Hermaphrodites and Society Individuals are given the gift of life when they are born into this world. Many agree that everyone is blessed and should not take their lives for granted. To be truly alive, individuals must be overjoyed and pursue happiness. However, others would describe their lives as a joke. To be precise, many would be ashamed of who they are. A very strong example of an ashamed soul would be Calliope, the main protagonist of Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. In the story, Eugenides tells the tale of Callie, who is supposedly a monster because she is a hermaphrodite. Being a hermaphrodite indicates that someone has the sex organs associated with both genders. By definition, Callie is an abnormal freak. Eugenides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her eyes, she is a grotesque beast that cannot even stand to stare at herself out of humiliation and shame. Callie is absolutely alone and is surrounded by others who look at her with disgust and wide eyes. Eugenides utilizes tone in the story to help readers develop sympathy and pity towards Callie. All throughout the passage, the tone of the story is serious. Callie acknowledges that "her mother was crying in the next room, and the doctors were working on Callie's disease in secret." The statements convey that Callie's parents are also disappointed and ashamed of what their daughter has become. Callie understands that her mother sheds tears thinking what she has done to deserve a defected daughter. Callie's parents are so ashamed and overwhelmed that they took Callie to New York to try and heal in secret instead of in the open. Callie's parents do not want others to see what has happened to her out of concern for their daughter's social life as a normal individual. The thoughts and emotions expressed give readers pity towards Callie and her condition. Callie muses that "she longed to be held, caressed, which was impossible." Callie wishes to be comforted and surrounded by others that loved and understood her. Unfortunately, Callie views herself so much like a monster rather than an individual that she is too far long to be comforted by anyone. Readers infer that Callie is ... • 31. Callie Khouri's Thelma and Louise Even in today's growing world of feminism, young girls, as well as grown women, are being taught by the media to organize their lives around men. Their needs, expectations, work schedules, ideas, and interests become second to the men in their lives. All too often the media associates power and status to men, only to strengthen the barriers between the male and female genders. Take for example Hollywood, where "women get only about a third of all movie and TV roles, and last year earned less than male actors in all age categories..."(Eby, 1). And even though gender should not be used as the determining factor of what one can and cannot do, Hollywood, as well as everywhere else, has proven that the old habits of gender discrimination die ... He becomes the wall which holds back women from fulfilling their "wishes, ambitions, pleasures, and impulses"(NY Times, 1991). Thelma is who we are, a prisoner behind this wall and Louise is who we want to become... the prisoner who breaks free and confronts those who held her back. Another cathartic scene is that in which Thelma and Louise confront the truck driver who has been harassing them the entire distance of their road trip. That truck driver is someone almost every woman has dealt with at some time or another. "There is not a woman in the world who has not dealt with that guy. He is out there in force, but when you're walking down the street and guys do that, what you're supposed to do as a woman is ignore it"(LA Times, 1991). After ignoring the truck driver throughout most of the movie, Thelma and Louise take a stand, not only for themselves but also for all the women who have wished they could say something back, but haven't for whatever reason it may be. All the suppressed emotions and unsaid words of both the woman on screen and those sitting in the audience manifest themselves into an explosion which blows up the truck driver's sense of power... not to mention the truck itself. • 32. Povertyin the World Poverty evokes various definitions depending on the audience and perhaps the purpose or context that it is used. Limiting the definition of poverty to a 'value judgment' is of little use in terms of agreeing on a definition for the purpose of comparison and measurement between groups (Sen 1979, p.285). A clear definition of poverty supports and indicates the process for measurement, and as such would also assist in determining the focus and approach for development (Clark 2012; Ruggeri, Saith & Stewart 2006, p.19). In reviewing Oxfam Australia's (Oxfam) Close the Gap campaign, it is necessary to identify the approach that is taken in defining poverty in order to gauge the scope of the project, the development of the approach used, and to quantify the change that occurs. Oxfam itself has identified Close the Gap as a human rights campaign that aims to close the life expectancy health gap of 10–17 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait within a generation (Holland 2014, p.46). Vizard in her exploration of Sen's capability approach (2005, p.24), emphasises the marriage of capabilities with human rights, citing poverty as one of the key exclusions to fundamental freedoms and human rights, thus expanding the definition of poverty into a multidimensional one. Health is one of the dimensions included in the rights approach, which suggests that the abuses of human rights result in poverty and are also a result of poverty (OHCHR 2006, p.16). • 33. How Climate Affect Eurasia The Europeans had a climate where they were able to grow productive crops and domesticate animals, creating a surplus of food, freeing some people from food production to become specialists who were able to create advanced tools and weaponry. Because the Europeans had time, steel, and immunity to smallpox, due to their exposure to domesticated animals, they could decimate populations, appropriate there resources, and conquer the world. The first inequality that geography caused was the development of agriculture in areas such as Eurasia, versus the lack of development in places such as Papua New Guinea. Geographic location changes what crops can grow by affecting the climate of the given area. The climate then affects what plants can grow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order for animals to live in an area, two basic needs have to be met by that location. First, the climate in that area must conform with the climate the specific species needs to survive. As explained previously, the climate of an area relates to its geographic location. This is why animals such as polar bears live in Antarctica and Alaska, areas farther from the equator, which have less sunlight and less warmth. The second requirement is that there has to be food which the animal is able to digest. Animals such as cows, which depend on grass for food, would not be able to live in an arid or desert–like environment. Grass just isn't going to grow there. This means that areas which have prime conditions for containing domesticable animals, which just so happened to be Eurasia, have a significant advantage in the form of technological development over areas which don't have the right climate or the right foods to sustain domesticated animals. Because these animals provided a sustainable source of food, as well as performing farming tasks such as pulling plows, they gave societies with domesticable animals access to a very important resource, time. With that, these societies were able to develop concepts such as art and to sustain specialists. Not all animals can be domesticated. They have to be able to cooperate with humans and make economic sense. In order for a species to be domesticable, it has to have the inclination to not attack or eat humans, otherwise, the species could be dangerous to domesticate. Along with that comes the ability to actually control the species. A species has to have a hierarchy–like social structure in order for humans to be able to control a whole pack of animals, which is much more sensible than trying to train every individual animal. They also need to be economically sensible. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Just like Australia's 'Stolen Generation', from the 19th century until the late mid 1970s, more than 150,000 Canadian aboriginal children were required to attend state–funded Christian schools as part of a program to strip them of their native culture and assimilate them into Canadian society. How Health Services Can Provide Culturally Safe Care Kildea (2006) says that maternity care based on principles of Western models of health care have not been able to improve maternal or perinatal outcomes and Molly Wardaguga, an Aboriginal health worker and respected elder, states that inappropriate maternity care is responsible for the social dysfunction and loss of culture often seen in Indigenous communities (Kildea, 2006). Until this day Indigenous women have not had their voices heard or their knowledge recognised (Kildea, 2006). In order to improve maternal and perinatal health outcomes for Indigenous Australians holistic components from the Indigenous definition of health must be incorporated into maternity care and connection to country must be respected (Kildea, 2006). Durey and Thompson (2012) explain that the act of balancing quality care and organisation efficiency means that minimal resources are allocated to providing and improving appropriate Indigenous health care. Unfortunately, this is a factor in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women avoiding culturally unsafe care and aggravates the vicious cycle that leads to poor maternal and perinatal outcomes (Kruske, Kildea & Barclay, 2006). One of the recommendations made by the 'Close the Gap' campaign involves increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care workers (Kelly et al., 2014). It is thought that doing this will encourage more Indigenous Australians to attend health care services and also promote cultural safety therefore improving health outcomes for the Indigenous population (Kelly et al., 2014; Kildea, Kruske, Barclay & Tracy, 2010). Increasing the number of trained Indigenous health care professionals will require the support of institutions such as universities, health services and organisations responsible for the distribution of scholarship funds (Kelly et al., 2014; Sherwood, 2013; Kildea, Kruske, Barclay & Tracy, 2010).
