Society' series. For the next half hour we'll be looking at the punk music scene starting in the mid–
seventies.
Punk was born in the early 70's in New York, and is still evolving.
No other style in the history of rock, has been so uncompromising, or made such a dramatic
impression as Punk Rock. The two versions of punk, the original American and its British
descendent, were very different.
British punk was aggressive and angry. It demanded immediate change and had no interest in

This generation of British youth who embraced punk left school to enter a climate of harsh
unemployment and limited options. Britain in 1975 had one of its highest unemployment rates since
World War II and this bleak scenario offered few alternatives. Punk for the British teenager was an
outlet for their feelings of inadequacy as many young people struggled with the demoralising effects
of welfare and unemployment.
British society is traditionally quite conservative and is reflected in the institution of the monarchy
itself, perhaps one of the best recognised hallmarks of a social system that is very stratified, and
emphasises distinct class differences. Symbols of conservative middle class order and organisation
quickly became targets for the angst of disenfranchised British youth.
Punk Rock bands such as the Sex Pistols attracted a huge following and their choice of subject

Rock Band Comparison Essay
Michael Wood in the article was trying to explain his point of view about US punk rock bands. He is
certain that they were more famous than punk bands of the UK because US punk lyrics were based
on their own experiences and their atmosphere differed from others. I argue that UK and US bands
may look similar, but actually, they are surprisingly different. I have chosen two US punk bands:
"Ramones" & "Fall Out Boy" and two UK punk bands: "The Clash" & "Amebix" to show big

Why Was Punk Becoming So Popular
A contributing factor that resulted in punk becoming so popular in the U.K. was the sociopolitical
environment in Great Britain, as at the time the nation was undergoing major social upheaval.
During the early nineteen–seventies, the global oil and steel manufacturing crises rocking most of
the world helped throw the United Kingdom into a recession. The recession resulted in the British
government cutting funding for many essential services which in turn would lead to strikes, riots,
rolling blackouts and an unstable government. The economy was slow to recover thanks to high
inflation and unemployment rates resulting in stale economic growth. It was estimated that more
than half of all 18 year olds were either unemployed or underemployed.

Typically, this type of issue is covered in the franchisor/franchisee contract or can be addressed

drawbacks of becoming a franchisee for Dunkin' Donuts. He would also need to make sure he
understood the aspects of the franchisor contract, which sometimes includes hidden fees and
guidelines that would be the responsibility of the franchisee. The contracts have strict clauses that

Another one of punk rock's pioneers was the animated Iggy Pop. Iggy began his musical career, or
let me say, his career took off after leaving the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Iggy formed a band
with friends who really had no idea how to play their instruments. This way their lack of musical
knowledge would allow Iggy to incorporate his zany and unorthodox style into their playing style

Difference Between Punk And Pop Punk
American musician and singer–songwriter of the Ramones, Jeffrey Ross Hyman, known to the
public as Joey Ramone, once said "To me, punk is about being an individual and going against the
grain and standing up and saying 'This is who I am'" (BrainyQuote). Punk has been present in music
since the 1960s, where it was starting to form in the garages of starting out musicians that did not
have any regulations to follow, simply because of the fact they didn't know the 'rules' of music. Most
of this early punk music was unadulterated and often political, showing the thoughts and feelings of
the writer (Cooper). Meanwhile, about a decade later in the 1970s, a new style of punk was forming.
Combining elements of punk and mainstream music styles established a new genre of music,
commonly known today as 'pop punk' (B.). While pop punk music branched off of punk, they both
have their distinct features of what makes them unique. Although the two genres share the same
artists, there is a distinct difference between the styles. Songwriter, actor, and singer and guitarist of
Green Day tweeted in late December of 2015, "my mission for 2016? to destroy the phrase "pop–
punk" forever" [sic] (Armstrong). Armstrong, like many other punk band members, dislikes being

through use of bricolage. The bringing together of two different art forms in one gives the album an
interesting edge. The bright pink, bold lettering showing the band name 'Ramones' allows the album
to stand out through contrasting. The use of bright colours such as yellow or pink were often used in
punk imagery in order to make the colour objects stand out, making more of a statement. Having the
band name appear with such importance, demanding recognition means the album does not go

of rebelling against what is expected of men, by embracing a sense of femininity and/or neutrality

Taking a Look at Punk Rock
A. Alright, I know what your thinking, "Here we go the third speech, time to get out my desk pillow
and my drool bucket and take a nice long 5–7 minute nap. Or maybe this time I will count the
number of tiles that are on the ceiling." While I understand that taking a nap may be a great option,
and counting the ceiling tiles may be good knowledge to have for what reason I do not know, If you
listen today you may learn something interesting, its not guaranteed but I would almost count on it.
B. Now when you here the words punk rock or just punk in general you may think negatively and
picture things like dark clothing, body piercings, suggestive language and loud aggressive music.
Now while most of these things are true to be associated with this genre of music, there is a
completely different side of this topic that is often looked over and not mentioned much yet it is
probably the most important aspect of punk rock. C. Ive been involved with music for quite some
time ever since I started playing guitar several years ago. I have played and listened to several
different genres of music but punk rock just stood out to me due to the fact that it was anything I

In Spanish class recently, we watched a movie about a young girl named Marta, who faced many
problems throughout a period of months. Whether it was family, or a boy she snuck around, Marta
always wanted to help. But the one thing Marta hoped and dreamed for was a Quinceañera. When
girls turn 15 years of age, it is optional to have one. But Marta worried because it was optional, she
could end up not having one. This put a lot of stress on her. I thought this movie lacked the
portrayment of adulthood. I say this because everything seemed so cliche. Marta met an older boy
named Ramone that her father, Samuel, absolutely despised. He wanted Marta to stay away from
him because he thought Ramone was a bad influence on her. I say this was cliche because at the end
of the movie, ramone appeared at Marta's Quinceañera and everyone was happy. I don't think this

Immigration played a role in this film whether it was Samuel striving to get his green card, or illegal
workers running From police. I think that immigration was shown perfectly in this movie. Samuel
had a wife and two kids born in the United States, but he was not. At first they were going to move
to Mexico, but with the help of Marta getting papers for her father, that was not the case. There was
was a scene that showed workers running from police and this really stood out to me. I think the

the events of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Dee Dee Blanchard, mother of gypsy, was killed on June ninth
two thousand fifteen. Gypsy and her mother were hurricane Katrina survivors and because of
gypsy's illnesses, many people often helped the Blanchard's either financially or through
organizations. Many would describe the pair as loving, kind, and inseparable. People would never
see one without the other and thought they were dependent on each other. Once the case opened,
many people were shocked to find that this family was not what they thought. The countless
diseases that Gypsy was thought to have were fictional. Depending on what type of doctor Gypsy
would see, Dee Dee would lie about Gypsy's condition and family history. Dee Dee manipulated
everyone, even doctors, into believing that Gypsy was sick. This resulted in a multitude of
redundant surgeries and medications that gypsy had to endure. And because of many medications
Gypsy had, many of the doctors thought that the symptoms they were seeing were what they were
trying to treat. Though Dee Dee was a good manipulator, Dr. Benardo Flasterstein and Dr. Marc
Feldman had their doubts. Dr. Marc Feldman, a clinical psychologist, believed Gypsy was a victim
