Hiking 101 Essay
Hiking (Arizona) 101
I spent much of my Presidents Day holiday on the trail. The 75 degree blue sky
weather was beautiful and the people were few.
I thought that I would do a quick Hiking 101 (Arizona version) for my readers.
It is pretty basic and common sense, I know, but I have learned over the years that
common sense is anything but common so here you go.WATER UP – Water, water, water
is what I preach to my players and considering our low humidity environment it is
good advice.
When you work hard in our dry heat you lose a lot of water just by huffing and
puffing and sweat that quickly evaporates so you don't notice it. Dehydration
sneaks up on you. I start and end every day with a tall glass of water and try to ... Show more

If you have an
overwhelming compulsion to take you dog out in public and mingle with other dog
owners find a dog park.Pay constant attention to where you are putting your feet
while you are moving. If you are going to look at the scenery, and I absolutely
think you should, don't do it while you are moving. Stop and look around or you
are gonna take a fall or roll an ankle. It only takes one misstep. Arizona trails
are almost always super rocky, from little round marbles to salt block sized ankle
breakers our trails consist of mile after mile of rocks. So, make sure you put
your feet on the solid stuff while you are going down hill or that forward foot is
gonna come out from under you. Go from one mostly buried rock to another and stay
off the marbles and you will be fine. Remember that most skiing accidents happen
on the last run of the day and most mountaineering accidents happen post summit

Essay on informative speech about hiking
Speech title: Essentials for an overnight backpacking trip.
Specific purpose: At the end of my speech, the audience will be able to understand the basic
necessities to go on an overnight backpacking trip.
Thesis statement/central idea: Overnight backpacking is fun and with basic understanding and
knowledge, anyone can try it.
Introduction
Imagine yourself walking thru the wilderness, the leaves crunching underneath your feet, birds
singing in the distance, squirrels playing in the trees... Are you in a happy place? This is my happy
place. I got to this place by backpacking. I started backpacking a few years ago out in Connecticut
with some friends. Before we got into backpacking we started doing research by looking online and

C.2. Clothing can vary depending on the time of year or season. You should dress accordingly.
C.3. Shelter can be anything from a tent to just a plain tarp depending on what you want to stay
under.
C.4. Food is what keeps you going on the trails and promotes fun on the trip.
II. After doing all the prep work and planning, picking the right gear is important to enjoy the trip.
A. The first type of gear that will be covered is the backpack. This is an important critical piece that
helps you carry all the necessities without breaking your back. According to Backpackers start–up:
A beginners Guide to Hiking & Backpacking there are 3 types of backpacks.
A.1. Internal frame packs have the frame on the inside of the backpack to allow the backpack to sit
closer to the body and moves with the body to help navigate difficult terrain. This type also
mitigates the chance of becoming off balance.
A.2. External frame packs support the weight away from the body, which helps in the ease of
loading gear and allows sweat to evaporate from your body. This type can increase the chance of
becoming off balance due to the weight not being close to the body.
A.3. Daypacks are smaller and good for short distances and light loads due to not much support
other than the shoulder straps.
B. The second type of gear is clothing. You should dress accordingly to the season and weather you
will be backpacking in.

Essay On Costs Too Much Money
In this day and age, almost everything costs money. If you want to go out and do something
entertaining, it can be expensive. Tell City is a pretty boring town, and there is not really much to do
here. However, you can have fun for cheap if you know where to go. We have a movie theater,
restaurants, hiking trails, and plenty of grocery stores around town that you can go to to find snacks
and meals to prepare. Many people that live here complain that they never have anything to do.
People also complain that anything we can do costs too much money. Taking a girl out on a date is
almost impossible without spending a lot of money. What people do not know is that you can have a
good weekend with less than $20 here in Tell City, if you know ... Show more content on

Prices for movies are great; regular showtimes for children three to twelve is six dollars, adults
thirteen and over is eight dollars, and senior citizens sixty and over is six dollars. The matinee
movies, which are movies that start before six p.m., are six dollars. There is also a special for
fireman, policeman, and military who have their ID's, their movie tickets are six dollars.
Concessions are always expensive at movie theaters, but ours is cheaper than most. There are four
different movies playing at any given time. Cinema 66 is also doing a Christmas special, with Elf
playing on December 21st and The Polar Express playing on December 28th. The best part about
this Christmas deal is that both movies are free for anyone to come and watch! This is a perfect date
for cheap, and one thing that I would recommend doing. If you really want a cheap but fun night,
having a movie night would be a very good idea. We have Redbox that you can rent movies from
for $1.50 a day. The Redbox has a great variety of movies, and it iz usually stocked pretty well with
favorable movies. The Redbox's here in Tell City are placed pretty conveniently for movie nights,
the four that we have are placed around grocery stores. There are two at Walmart, one at Dollar
General, and one at Family Dollar. A more convenient source for movies is Netflix, it is $7.99 a
month and it has great movies and television shows. Movie nights and Netflix binge watching is

Inca Narrative
Our next step was to walk half a mile up a set of worn out and weathered stairs, this was very tiring
and I almost tripped a couple of times. Looking to my right and I saw large number of large
mountains that were densely covered with jungle vegetation. I looked down and noticed the clouds
below me. Our altitude was very high because I noticed the air getting colder. We finally reached the
top of the mountain. Our guide showed us around the ruins. Walking around, I saw the unique arch
architecture of the doorways. There was a carving of an eagle on a circular stone on the ground. I
wondered how the Incas could have carved the stones perfectly to sit on top of each other without
cement. Some were stacked up to 10 feet high. There were some Incan ... Show more content on

Our guide pointed to an ancient rock that was said to "clear the mind" of whoever touched it.
Immediately I went to it and set both hands on the rock. My nausea went away and I felt well again.
All the tired feeling I had also gone from me. I could feel energy spring in my body. I felt like I
wanted to run a mile! Our tour continued as our guide showed us to a large, flat field where the
Incas did their celebrations and rituals. There were llamas grazing on the field. One llama walked up
to me and sniffed me. The llama was brown with black legs. I looked into the llama's face and it
looked like it was smiling! From there, I walked to the edge of the mountain and looked down.
There was a steep cliff with only jungle vegetation at the bottom. At the bottom there was a little
river with a rope bridge to cross it. The rope bridge was 100 feet from the ground and didn't look
very sturdy. "I wouldn't cross that," I mumbled. I walked down the Inca Temple and out the Incan
houses glancing up one last time at the remains of the mighty city. I thought of what used to be up
there and how glorious it was. Turning I saw a native Incan ancestor herding a llama herding a down
a path. As I walked into the bus, I imagined how great this race of people was. There skills and
talents made them the richest people in that continent. I hoped that my country would use their
talents to help innovate the future and make this world a better

It is located in Bozeman, Montana. About 97 miles outside of Helena; Montana's capital. With a
beautiful landscape of their stunning mountains, I believe that that's one of their many attractions.
I could not get an accurate number of how many enrollments they were for this year, but through the
facts I collected they're about 13,123–15,294 enrollments of this fall, 2013.
There is a ton of majors to get and a lot in between:

Trail Obstacles
The smell of oak and pine filled my nose, the sky was blue and all you can see was the mountains
and trees. It was my cousin, grandpa, uncle, my uncle's friend, then my dad and I. We were in the
High sierra Mountains in california. We did not expect the trail to be this difficult. We overcame
obstacles that seemed impossible. Once we arrived to the campsite we stayed their for a few
days. That hike made me realize what true success really feels like.
After a good night's rest, we headed off to the trail. We had to take frequent breaks, because the air
was super thin. The trail was rocky, uneven, and slippery. If I were to fall that would be very very
bad. I thought it was easy, but then the impossible happened.
No one in the group thought it was part of the trail. The rain has washed out the trail. All was left
was a one foot ledge. With our big boots it seemed impossible. We had to leap to the other side and
we were about two hundred feet from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Ledge and slide looking thing were not as hard like the first time. Since we were familiar with
the trail, all of it seemed normal to us. Even though the obstacles were behind us we still needed to
stay focused. Now it was just a test of endurance. The last mile was the hardest mile out of the
whole trip. My legs were sore, I had a headache, and I was very thirsty. However, when we saw the
trail head we were filled with joy. Once we stepped of the trail we felt like we succeeded.
I will always remember the smell of the wood and the beautiful scenery. We were not expecting the
trail to be washed out. The group overcame obstacles that seemed impossible. The trail head seemed
like a safe haven. I have never felt like that after we got back. I felt like I succeeded and
accomplished and proud. I would go on that trip again in a heartbeat. The trip taught me to work
hard until the end, and if you work hard enough you will

Red Cloud's Revenge Essay
Red Cloud's Revenge
Red Cloud's Revenge is a historical novel about the grim recollection of detailed events and
days/months before the showdown between the US Cavalry & Sioux Indians on the northern plains
of 1867. Fetterman, Brown & Grummond rode out ahead of seventy–eight soldiers that day on
December 21st 1866. In hopes of driving out some Sioux Indians and bring some scalps home.
Many soldiers' guard was down when Fetterman's entire force disappeared over Trail Lodge Ridge.
None of them were ever seen alive again.
Seven months after the tragic bloodshed of the Fetterman Massacre by a band of Lakota; Sargent
Seamus Donegan was stationed near Fort Phil Kearney recovering from the horror and bloodbath in
which he participated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gunfire had erupted in a scuffle between Lakota forces and US Cavalry troops. Soon both forts
under siege as well as camps nestled along the route from the advancing Indians. Red Cloud and
Crazy Horse were determined their warriors to crush the white settlers to returning their land and
departing forever.
Using an ancient tactic of warfare, the Sioux waited until troops thought the fighting had halted.
Setting up decoys and the strategy plans, Red Cloud was ready to see the white man's blood fall on
the plains. When US Calvary men began to advance outside their fort range in search of a plea or
peace treaty. Red Cloud gave the order for Crazy Horse to commence a raid. White men were
butchered like cattle on the battlefield where they lay. A Lakota named Roman Nose took the
command from Crazy Horse to burn down the wagons and dead. "Cleanse this land of the white
man's stain. Purify this land once again, no white men may leave here alive or in ashes."
In the end, the Wagon Box Flight took many men to their deaths and renewed the terror of the
Lakota. Captain Samuel Marr was returned to Fort C.F. Smith after being shot in the leg by friendly
fire. Private Thompson was knocked out cold in the field and left for scalping in the blazing
firefight. He survived the close encounter and didn't remember what happened or where he was for a
few days. While battered and wrecked, Sargent Seamus

Upper Falls Descriptive Writing
It was a cold fall day when we decided to take a trip down to the Cataract. The traffic was light on
the way there, my mom falling asleep in the back while I talked to Jeremy while he was driving.
Every time I looked out of the window I saw beautiful shades of red or yellow. The second to last
road that we turned onto was a gravel road with a bunch of twists and hills. Jeremy loved these type
of roads, especially when he had the blazer to play with. We passed our usual spot that we take to
get to the lower falls and turned onto the actual road that takes us into the park itself. There were
only two to three other cars parked at the lower falls, one of them started and ready to leave. As we

Dating Back To The Park-Personal Narrative
Dating back to the summer of 1984 I lived in the city of Guttenberg New Jersey. There I lived with
My Father, Mother, Brother and Sister. I would always take long bicycle rides to a park by the name
of "State park 80" AKA in Spanish "El Parque del Ochenta). This park has a lake that measures
approximately 1 mile in diameter. I would ride my bicycle there and ride around the lake several
times before heading back home for dinner. I made this trip several times a week before one day
discovering a path leading up into a wooded area. Curiously, I rode my bicycle into this path and
went in as far as I could, but at one point it seemed never ending so I would turn back and head to
the lake side again. I decided it was time to head home. The very ... Show more content on

America's Expansion To The Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail is America's first Scenic Trail. It stretches from Katahdin Mountain in Maine
to Springer Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Georgia. This stretch of the trail
includes some of the most difficult sections. Some trails are suitable for day hikes or short
backpacking hikes.
There are 22 different hiking trails within the state of Maine. The first six are considered to be in
eastern Maine and provide several days worth of hiking adventure and natural wonders.
The trail is usually hiked south to north from Georgia to Maine between May and September to
avoid the brunt of the bad weather. There is also an unofficial expansion to the Appalachian Trail,
which starts from Canada, through Quebec and down into Maine.

Persuasive Essay On Road Biking
Road biking is an awesome way to amplify your fitness should you decide to add it to your training.
First and foremost I have always been a mountain biker, with cyclocross being a close second. I
much prefer dirt, dust, mud, and rocks in contrast to smooth black tar of the roads. Playing amongst
the trees and bushes is a frivolity that I enjoy often. Wheels flicking through the loose terrain,
sliding left, sliding right, barely in control of your machine but yet always somehow making it to the
bottom of the trail in one piece.
Mountain biking is about battling against yourself and what nature may throw at you. A big storm
could bring change to a familiar trail. For example, a driving rain throughout the night might create
a giant rut down the center of a fireroad. However, a sandy or dusty trail will wash away leaving a
huge hole unseen until you are almost upon it. Then and only then you have split second decision to
make: should I jump the hole or is an out of control brake slam my only alternative? Mishaps are
generally due to rider error when mountain biking. Comparatively, you may navigate a rock garden
too slowly or careen into a corner too quickly thus landing in the brush. Or probably slide out on a
sand patch or lose speed on a technical climb falling backward (which I have done). As a mountain
biker, we have less external influences when navigating the terrain so any mistakes you may
experience can be chalked up to rider error.
Preconceived Notions

Essay On Hiking
We humans are social animals. We normally prefer others around us and enjoy sharing experiences
with others. In some situations, some of us like to experience the world alone. If the empty, open
trail beckons you, then solo hiking might be what you're looking for. There may be potential
consequences when solo hiking which you need to be prepared to deal such as being prepared for
solo hiking, and the dangers of solo hiking.
Some people may have experience hiking while others don't. It's important to be prepared when
your solo hiking. Let's talk about getting prepared, the first thing is to get supplies that are necessary
to go hiking such as water, map, food, etc. You mostly need these important things, the most
important thing overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in the article "The Most Important Rule" it talks about how there's a website where you
can enter where you're hiking and what time your coming back, " If you fail to respond to a text
from the HikerAlert website, designated emergency contacts entered when the account was created".
Organizing and planning your hiking journey, more likely for you, you will have a better hiking
experience than Aron and Amos, just remember you tell someone before you're going alone on an
adventure.
Whether you're alone or not, there are real dangers when you're heading to the wild. Being prepared
to deal with situations is your responsibility when heading out. With one to check your map reading
and finding direction, losing your way is probably the most common thing for solo hikers. Let's say
you are in Canada, you want to go towards nature but you have no idea how to use a map or a
compass, well before doing that make sure you do know how to in the article "Hiking Alone In
Canada", " Some of Canada's trails go for thousands of miles, many places through areas that do not
see people for long stretches". The best way to prevent yourself from getting lost is try to be near
civilization like the article "Hiking Alone In Canada" states "Choose areas that are near civilization.
This way, you are close to people, even if you get lost". Even with good navigation skills, nature can
turn you around with wind, blizzards, fog, overgrown paths, and snow cover. Having

Descriptive Essay On The Pond
The Pond
It was only supposed to be a nice day at the pond. Although it was summer, most of the days had
been muggy, and under 65 degrees. Finally, Beyulah and I had a breakthrough. We woke with the
sun shining through my window and a 80 degree forecast, so we packed a water bottle, sparkling
cider, and a pack of Twix™ and got onto our bikes.
Immediately we encountered a problem. As we reached the main road, a huge construction truck
was parked at the end of my street, we found the road was being repaved. The workers said that we
could wait for the pilot car and ride along with the cars, so that's what we began to do. But, as we
sat, the sun beating down on us, Beyulah and I couldn't stand it any longer. We hopped back on our
bikes, and started riding down the other dirt road that looped through houses then back to the main
road.
We got a little over a mile up that road when I had an idea. "We can keep going down here and get
there normally, or we can ride down one of these older sketchy trails I used to ride that'll be faster."
We made the obvious decision and started down the shortcut. This was, as we found, the wrong
decision.
I was in front of Beyulah, navigating all the old paths. Unfortunately, being in front meant taking the
brunt of all the huge, sticky spiderwebs that had been weaved across the trail. I'd hit the web, panic
and almost crash, causing beyulah to break hard and fall over. We'd get back up, rinse and repeat for
about another mile. Once we were back

Addicks Park Ten Research Paper
Addicks Park Ten is a neighborhood that's lasted and stayed relatively small for Houstonians who
want both the perks of an urban environment and the know–your–neighbor neighborhoods of a
small town. For years, Addicks has endured as a refuge for the hard working Houstonians who love
those wide open spaces.
According to the Texas State Historical Association, this neighborhood has been called by several
names throughout the years, with the most notable besides Addicks, being Bear Creek (which is the
name of a nearby area). Addicks has also worn several hats when it comes to its settlement. First,
German immigrants settled the area at around 1850, as they did with several nearby towns, but it
was as a railroad stop that Addicks really got booming. By 1891, a larger track was built and the
area became a hub for farmers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, almost the entire area was destroyed by the Galveston hurricane of 1900–a storm of such
magnitude that many areas were wiped out and communities began to form flood relief initiatives.
Addicks was one such community, and while the population was slow to bounce back (only 40
people by 1925), the Addicks Dam Reservoir became necessary to control flooding. Nearly 200
people had to relocate when the area was purposely flooded for the reservoir.
Possibly due to some xenophobia, the German ancestry of the area was stifled during WWI when
church services at the local Methodist church stopped being offered in the German language–the
native language of many people who originally settled and endured in the area. However, Addicks
did get back to its roots and the Bear Creek Graveyard actually has plots of original settlers, a point

Yolo Bypass Wildlife Environment
For almost as long as humans have been on Earth, we have changed landscapes drastically to suit
our needs, historically often without regard to the damage caused in the process. This has changed
over time, with the passing of legislation like the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act,
the creation of national and state parks, and efforts being made to restore degraded ecosystems.
While we may never see perfect natural systems again, especially in areas heavily populated by
humans, reconciliation is possible. Reconciliation ecology takes the concepts of restoration ecology,
in which managers seek to restore an ecosystem to how it used to be at a particular time, and
combines them with inevitable human presence. It uses these factors ... Show more content on

While providing a source of money needed to accomplish management programs at the YBWA, the
rice fields also provide a food source for ducks and temporary habitat for waterfowl, as the fields are

post–harvest, as that was a source of air pollution. Most of the 15,000 acres of the YBWA is

hikers are conscientious, their impact is likely to be minimal and come incidentally from car runoff.
Most of the species I saw at the YBWA seemed to not mind the presence of cars or hikers much,

Hiking Advantages
There is a very recent emergence an activity in America that many people have not even noticed,
what might this activity be, it is hiking. Hiking is an activity that has recently become very popular
with people of all ages; since the year 1960 the amount of hikers in Colorado alone has almost
quadrupled. Why is this? Many people have discovered what a good activity hiking is, and have
found it very enjoyable. Although only fifteen percent of Americans hike, hiking is an activity with
many hidden benefits that one might not notice right away, these benefits make hiking the best
activity in the world. One reason for the sudden spike in hiking popularity is because of how many
different levels of difficulty there that range from easy strolls to extremely steep hikes, and to a
more extreme form rock climbing. Because hiking has such a broad spectrum of difficulty, people of
all ages can hike making this a very family friendly activity in which the entire family whether they
be eighty years old, or four. Hiking can be a very easy activity, or an activity that takes a whole lot
of effort out of the hiker depending on the terrain and the steepness of the trail. This allows for
everything from a nice evening stroll to a backbreaking trek up a mountain. As mentioned earlier,
rock climbing is a more extreme form of hiking if the hiker is not tired enough yet. Often when
hiking the hiker will run up against a spot that needs to be climbed. Rock climbing in addition to

Got Mud? Hiking the Big Cedar Trail to Kennedy Falls, North Vancouver
Mount Fromme, a mecca for local mountain bikers is considered by many to be the crown jewel of
the North Shore, but don't be fooled by the men and women riding the trails. Day hikers are also
welcome in the area and the Big Cedar trail to Kennedy Falls is a must see. Who can resist a 600+
year old red cedar, cascading waterfalls, boulders, deadfall and creek crossings? I know I can't!
The hike to Kennedy Falls is approximately 10km long, and in terms of mountain trails it is
relatively flat. As an added bonus, due to the low elevation of the trail, it generally remains snow
free for the majority of the year, ideal for spring adventures. Of course, with spring rain, comes

I marvelled at the strength and stamina those early loggers must have had. This would not be easy

Tearing myself away from Big Cedar, I continued up the trail towards Kennedy Falls. The light in

On November 21, 1990, the day before Thanksgiving, Bill Irwin became the last person that year to
complete the entire length of the world's longest continuously marked footpath – the Appalachian

Every year more than 1,000 hikers set out to hike the full length of the trail, but less than 200

The Scripture reminds us that "we walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7), thus believing
and seeing do not necessarily go hand in hand. Believers essentially "walk blind" in times of trial
and temptation, when life is cruel and they see no tangible evidences of God's love and goodness.
Indeed, the greatest demonstrations of faith occur in the absence of such visible proofs. "Blessed are
those who have not seen and yet believe" (John 20:29), said Jesus. Some preachers will tell you that
if you are in poverty or in poor health, then you're not walking in faith. But the scripture says the
opposite. "God chose the poor," said James, "that they may be rich in faith" (James 2:5). Conversely,
we find that it was the materially wealthy Laodiceans who were spiritually "poor, blind, miserable,

Lake Hartwell History
Regarded as one of the southeast's largest lakes, Lake Hartwell is located on the Savannah River,
bordering Georgia and South Carolina. This man–made reservoir was created by the Hartwell Dam,
which extends for seven miles below the confluence of the Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers. Lake
Hartwell is a very popular recreational lake, stretching for 49 miles up the Tugaloo River and 45
miles up the Seneca River at normal pool elevation, comprising 56,000 acres of water and 962 miles
of beautiful shores. Named for the American Revolutionary War figure Nancy Hart, a devout patriot
and lover of liberty, who lived in the Georgia frontier, Lake Hartwell was built by the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers between 1955 and 1963. The lake serves several functions, including flood risk
management, water supply, navigation, hydropower production and fish and wildlife protection. The
Lake Hartwell region has a rich history, which tells the story of the Cherokee Indians, whose land
(originally) the lake was built over. A large Indian mound rising above the waters of Lake Hartwell
is evidence of the Cherokee Indians' existence in the lake region. Early settlers of this area were
Scotch–Irish farmers who started a new life in Georgia, many escaping the potato famine of the

The Cascade River very aptly named, as the water makes several cascades before finally dropping a

Fred and his wife Florence Roberts hired a famous African–America architecture engineer named
Paul R. Williams to design a modern home for them on their family ranch, Solstice Canyon. The
material used for building the home of Roberts family was wood, stone, and brick; which at the time

Fred Roberts named their newly constructed home from the time Tropical Terrade. Fred insisted that

Clinton Road : A Short Story Of A Ghost Story
Probably the most common ghost story that we hear about Clinton Road is that of a dead young boy
who hangs out under a bridge and returns coins to you after you throw them in the water. As far as
we know, this tale is unique to Clinton Road, but it is difficult to say when or how this story
began. The road and the land around it have achieved recognition through the years being an area
rife with numerous stories of paranormal occurrences such as sightings of ghosts, strange creatures
and gatherings of witches, Satanists and the Ku Klux Klan. It is also reported that professional
killers dispose of bodies in the surrounding woods–with one recorded case of this occurring. It has
been a regular subject of discussion in Weird NJ magazine, which once devoted an entire issue to it.
In the words of a local police chief, "It's a long, desolate stretch and makes the imagination go

having harder time grasping the material than anyone else in my class. This has been very humbling
for me, as I am not usually the student who has to constantly ask for help. While I have not
necessarily failed the course, many of my lab sessions have been a failure in my eyes. Through
taking this risk, and essentially failing to be successful in the class, it has become even more
obvious to me how much we must rely on group/team members, and each work around each other's
strengths and weaknesses if we want to be successful. There is another student in my class who
usually struggles in our other classes, but really understands GIS, and without his help I would be
struggling even more than I already am. I have become good friends with this student of the course
of this semester and now I help him with classes come easy to me but he struggles with.
For the most part, I really like to shake things up, so challenging the process comes naturally to me.
That being said, the largest personal obstacles that I have to challenging the process are inspiring
others and analyzing the group. It is easy for me to think of different ways to accomplish tasks, but
getting others on–board with an alternate approach is a whole different story. I am not the most
empathetic person, so knowing how other group members feel is also a struggle of mine. These are
both valid obstacles, but can be overcome simply by conscious effort on my

Cape Henlopen Descriptive Essay
Cape Henlopen, Delaware is a beautiful town with plenty of things to keep you occupied. It is
located at the top of Delaware and is known it's well kept campgrounds. It has different kinds of
restaurants and a lot of fun activities to do for everyone. I think Cape Henlopen is a good setting to
have an awesome time for everyone! Every place has it's best time to visit and for Cape Henlopen,
it's September. The weather in September in Delaware is perfect! It's not too cold nor too hot for any
activity, like playing at the beach. The sand doesn't feel like it is melting your feet and the sun isn't
beaming on your skin. The beaches won't be as crowded as mid–summer because that is when
people have summer vacation. Its relaxing and not as much sand being kicked on you by kids
running. The prices are also lower in this time than they are during summer. Souvenirs, clothes, and
hotels are less expensive because people are leaving for school to start again. September is the best
time to put some of your money to use for a good vacation. For most vacations, people usually stay
in hotels in the city, but what about cabins? In the woods, there are cabins that have a lot of room for
your things and are well maintained. They even have outlets to charge your phone because no one
can't go on vacation without taking hundred a pictures! Another reviewer said, "We rented two of
the relatively new cabins said–by–side. These were clean and well–designed, with plenty of cubby
hole space for

Hiking 101 Essay

  • 1. Hiking 101 Essay Hiking (Arizona) 101 I spent much of my Presidents Day holiday on the trail. The 75 degree blue sky weather was beautiful and the people were few. I thought that I would do a quick Hiking 101 (Arizona version) for my readers. It is pretty basic and common sense, I know, but I have learned over the years that common sense is anything but common so here you go.WATER UP – Water, water, water is what I preach to my players and considering our low humidity environment it is good advice. When you work hard in our dry heat you lose a lot of water just by huffing and puffing and sweat that quickly evaporates so you don't notice it. Dehydration sneaks up on you. I start and end every day with a tall glass of water and try to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Introduction Imagine yourself walking thru the wilderness, the leaves crunching underneath your feet, birds singing in the distance, squirrels playing in the trees... Are you in a happy place? This is my happy place. I got to this place by backpacking. I started backpacking a few years ago out in Connecticut with some friends. You should dress accordingly. C.3. Shelter can be anything from a tent to just a plain tarp depending on what you want to stay under. C.4. Food is what keeps you going on the trails and promotes fun on the trip. II. After doing all the prep work and planning, picking the right gear is important to enjoy the trip. A. The first type of gear that will be covered is the backpack. This is an important critical piece that helps you carry all the necessities without breaking your back. According to Backpackers start–up: A beginners Guide to Hiking & Backpacking there are 3 types of backpacks. A.1. Internal frame packs have the frame on the inside of the backpack to allow the backpack to sit closer to the body and moves with the body to help navigate difficult terrain. This type also mitigates the chance of becoming off balance. A.2. External frame packs support the weight away from the body, which helps in the ease of loading gear and allows sweat to evaporate from your body. This type can increase the chance of becoming off balance due to the weight not being close to the body. A.3. Daypacks are smaller and good for short distances and light loads due to not much support other than the shoulder straps. B. The second type of gear is clothing. You should dress accordingly to the season and weather you will be backpacking in. B.1. Buck Tilton, author of Hiking & ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On Costs Too Much Money In this day and age, almost everything costs money. If you want to go out and do something entertaining, it can be expensive. Tell City is a pretty boring town, and there is not really much to do here. However, you can have fun for cheap if you know where to go. We have a movie theater, restaurants, hiking trails, and plenty of grocery stores around town that you can go to to find snacks and meals to prepare. Many people that live here complain that they never have anything to do. People also complain that anything we can do costs too much money. There is also a special for fireman, policeman, and military who have their ID's, their movie tickets are six dollars. Concessions are always expensive at movie theaters, but ours is cheaper than most. There are four different movies playing at any given time. Cinema 66 is also doing a Christmas special, with Elf playing on December 21st and The Polar Express playing on December 28th. The best part about this Christmas deal is that both movies are free for anyone to come and watch! This is a perfect date for cheap, and one thing that I would recommend doing. If you really want a cheap but fun night, having a movie night would be a very good idea. We have Redbox that you can rent movies from for $1.50 a day. The Redbox has a great variety of movies, and it iz usually stocked pretty well with favorable movies. The Redbox's here in Tell City are placed pretty conveniently for movie nights, the four that we have are placed around grocery stores. • 5. Inca Narrative Our next step was to walk half a mile up a set of worn out and weathered stairs, this was very tiring and I almost tripped a couple of times. Looking to my right and I saw large number of large mountains that were densely covered with jungle vegetation. I looked down and noticed the clouds below me. Our altitude was very high because I noticed the air getting colder. We finally reached the top of the mountain. Our guide showed us around the ruins. Walking around, I saw the unique arch architecture of the doorways. There was a carving of an eagle on a circular stone on the ground. I wondered how the Incas could have carved the stones perfectly to sit on top of each other without cement. Some were stacked up to 10 feet high. There were some Incan ... My nausea went away and I felt well again. All the tired feeling I had also gone from me. I could feel energy spring in my body. I felt like I wanted to run a mile! Our tour continued as our guide showed us to a large, flat field where the Incas did their celebrations and rituals. There were llamas grazing on the field. One llama walked up to me and sniffed me. The llama was brown with black legs. I looked into the llama's face and it looked like it was smiling! From there, I walked to the edge of the mountain and looked down. There was a steep cliff with only jungle vegetation at the bottom. At the bottom there was a little river with a rope bridge to cross it. The rope bridge was 100 feet from the ground and didn't look very sturdy. "I wouldn't cross that," I mumbled. I walked down the Inca Temple and out the Incan houses glancing up one last time at the remains of the mighty city. I thought of what used to be up there and how glorious it was. Turning I saw a native Incan ancestor herding a llama herding a down a path. As I walked into the bus, I imagined how great this race of people was. After a good night's rest, we headed off to the trail. We had to take frequent breaks, because the air was super thin. The trail was rocky, uneven, and slippery. If I were to fall that would be very very bad. I thought it was easy, but then the impossible happened. No one in the group thought it was part of the trail. The rain has washed out the trail. Soon both forts under siege as well as camps nestled along the route from the advancing Indians. Red Cloud and Crazy Horse were determined their warriors to crush the white settlers to returning their land and departing forever. Using an ancient tactic of warfare, the Sioux waited until troops thought the fighting had halted. Setting up decoys and the strategy plans, Red Cloud was ready to see the white man's blood fall on the plains. When US Calvary men began to advance outside their fort range in search of a plea or peace treaty. Red Cloud gave the order for Crazy Horse to commence a raid. White men were butchered like cattle on the battlefield where they lay. A Lakota named Roman Nose took the command from Crazy Horse to burn down the wagons and dead. "Cleanse this land of the white man's stain. Purify this land once again, no white men may leave here alive or in ashes." In the end, the Wagon Box Flight took many men to their deaths and renewed the terror of the Lakota. Captain Samuel Marr was returned to Fort C.F. Smith after being shot in the leg by friendly fire. • 9. Upper Falls Descriptive Writing It was a cold fall day when we decided to take a trip down to the Cataract. The traffic was light on the way there, my mom falling asleep in the back while I talked to Jeremy while he was driving. Every time I looked out of the window I saw beautiful shades of red or yellow. The second to last road that we turned onto was a gravel road with a bunch of twists and hills. Jeremy loved these type of roads, especially when he had the blazer to play with. We passed our usual spot that we take to get to the lower falls and turned onto the actual road that takes us into the park itself. • 14. Persuasive Essay On Road Biking Road biking is an awesome way to amplify your fitness should you decide to add it to your training. First and foremost I have always been a mountain biker, with cyclocross being a close second. I much prefer dirt, dust, mud, and rocks in contrast to smooth black tar of the roads. Playing amongst the trees and bushes is a frivolity that I enjoy often. Wheels flicking through the loose terrain, sliding left, sliding right, barely in control of your machine but yet always somehow making it to the bottom of the trail in one piece. Mountain biking is about battling against yourself and what nature may throw at you. A big storm could bring change to a familiar trail. For example, a driving rain throughout the night might create a giant rut down the center of a fireroad. However, a sandy or dusty trail will wash away leaving a huge hole unseen until you are almost upon it. Then and only then you have split second decision to make: should I jump the hole or is an out of control brake slam my only alternative? Mishaps are generally due to rider error when mountain biking. Comparatively, you may navigate a rock garden too slowly or careen into a corner too quickly thus landing in the brush. Or probably slide out on a sand patch or lose speed on a technical climb falling backward (which I have done). As a mountain biker, we have less external influences when navigating the terrain so any mistakes you may experience can be chalked up to rider error. Preconceived Notions On the other ... • 19. Descriptive Essay On The Pond The Pond It was only supposed to be a nice day at the pond. Although it was summer, most of the days had been muggy, and under 65 degrees. Finally, Beyulah and I had a breakthrough. We woke with the sun shining through my window and a 80 degree forecast, so we packed a water bottle, sparkling cider, and a pack of Twix™ and got onto our bikes. Immediately we encountered a problem. As we reached the main road, a huge construction truck was parked at the end of my street, we found the road was being repaved. The workers said that we could wait for the pilot car and ride along with the cars, so that's what we began to do. But, as we sat, the sun beating down on us, Beyulah and I couldn't stand it any longer. We hopped back on our bikes, and started riding down the other dirt road that looped through houses then back to the main road. We got a little over a mile up that road when I had an idea. "We can keep going down here and get there normally, or we can ride down one of these older sketchy trails I used to ride that'll be faster." We made the obvious decision and started down the shortcut. This was, as we found, the wrong decision. I was in front of Beyulah, navigating all the old paths. Unfortunately, being in front meant taking the brunt of all the huge, sticky spiderwebs that had been weaved across the trail. I'd hit the web, panic and almost crash, causing beyulah to break hard and fall over. We'd get back up, rinse and repeat for about another mile. Once we were back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to the Texas State Historical Association, this neighborhood has been called by several names throughout the years, with the most notable besides Addicks, being Bear Creek (which is the name of a nearby area). • 29. Demonstration Speech: Hiking The Pacific Crest Trail The demonstration speech was a speech where we were required to explain how something works or how to do something to our lab section class. For my demonstration speech I chose the topic of how to prepare for a hike. The purpose for choosing this topic was because test weeks were coming up and whenever I feel overly stressed I often take a hike to decompress as well as the fact I am planning on hiking a one thousand mile trail on the western border of the United States made me think I was capable to explain how to prepare for a hike. I started off the speech by describing my plan after I graduate on hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and how it related to my favorite novel, Wild written by Cheryl Strayed. • 30. Lake Hartwell History Regarded as one of the southeast's largest lakes, Lake Hartwell is located on the Savannah River, bordering Georgia and South Carolina. This man–made reservoir was created by the Hartwell Dam, which extends for seven miles below the confluence of the Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers. Lake Hartwell is a very popular recreational lake, stretching for 49 miles up the Tugaloo River and 45 miles up the Seneca River at normal pool elevation, comprising 56,000 acres of water and 962 miles of beautiful shores. Named for the American Revolutionary War figure Nancy Hart, a devout patriot and lover of liberty, who lived in the Georgia frontier, Lake Hartwell was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1955 and 1963. The lake serves several functions, including flood risk management, water supply, navigation, hydropower production and fish and wildlife protection. The Lake Hartwell region has a rich history, which tells the story of the Cherokee Indians, whose land (originally) the lake was built over. A large Indian mound rising above the waters of Lake Hartwell is evidence of the Cherokee Indians' existence in the lake region. Early settlers of this area were Scotch–Irish farmers who started a new life in Georgia, many escaping the potato famine of the mid–19th century. Historic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When children and teens get out in the woods, many times there is not internet, or cell service. Although hiking sounds like the best activity ever, as with any argument, there is an opposing side to this argument. Some people think that hiking is not a thorough exercise, because whenever the hiker gets tired, he or she can simply turn around and go back to civilization. Occasionally, there is no motivation for the hiker to go hiking, especially if there is inclement weather. It was mentioned earlier that rock climbing was a more extreme form of hiking, but some say that rock climbing is an entire different sport with an entirely distinct set of problems. Despite these issues, hiking is still one of the best activities for people to participate in. Several of the issues are only what the public perceives of hiking, countless adamant hikers hike even if it is raining, and when it is raining, some animals come out, this gives even more motivation to hike in the rain. The majority of hikers do not turn around while hiking because they want to get to the top of the mountain, or there a serene mountain tarn. Numerous hikers will not turn around unless there is an extreme weather condition, or they are seriously injured. Clinton Road : A Short Story Of A Ghost Story Probably the most common ghost story that we hear about Clinton Road is that of a dead young boy who hangs out under a bridge and returns coins to you after you throw them in the water. As far as we know, this tale is unique to Clinton Road, but it is difficult to say when or how this story began. The road and the land around it have achieved recognition through the years being an area rife with numerous stories of paranormal occurrences such as sightings of ghosts, strange creatures and gatherings of witches, Satanists and the Ku Klux Klan. It is also reported that professional killers dispose of bodies in the surrounding woods–with one recorded case of this occurring. It has been a regular subject of discussion in Weird NJ magazine, which once devoted an entire issue to it. In the words of a local police chief, "It's a long, desolate stretch and makes the imagination go nuts."There are very few houses along the road and much of the adjoining property is undeveloped publicly owned woodlands (either City of Newark watershed or state forest) and the road itself is a narrow two–lane highway that receives little maintenance, is not part of New Jersey's county– highway system and was until fairly recently unpaved for some of its length, connecting two areas of minimal population and growth and thus having little traffic even at the busiest times of day.It is also notorious for having the country's longest traffic light wait. One–day last summer while working for the Boulder County trail crew, my crew, as well as one more, were tasked with moving a 1–ton bridge using grip–hoists (manually–operated winches), and it proved to be a much more daunting task than we had anticipated. After many failed attempts to move the bridge, frustration among crew members was at an all–time high. I have never been much of a computer wizard, but I really want to learn about GIS to use in designing trails. I am taking GIS this semester, and it has proved to be much more difficult than I expected. I have spent twice as much time on GIS than any of my other courses, and I am still having harder time grasping the material than anyone else in my class. This has been very humbling for me, as I am not usually the student who has to constantly ask for help. While I have not necessarily failed the course, many of my lab sessions have been a failure in my eyes. Through taking this risk, and essentially failing to be successful in the class, it has become even more obvious to me how much we must rely on group/team members, and each work around each other's strengths and weaknesses if we want to be successful. There is another student in my class who usually struggles in our other classes, but really understands GIS, and without his help I would be struggling even more than I already am. I have become good friends with this student of the course of this semester and now I help him with classes come easy to me but he struggles with. For the most part, I really like to shake things up, so challenging the process comes naturally to me. That being said, the largest personal obstacles that I have to challenging the process are inspiring others and analyzing the group. It is easy for me to think of different ways to accomplish tasks, but getting others on–board with an alternate approach is a whole different story. I am not the most empathetic person, so knowing how other group members feel is also a struggle of mine. These are both valid obstacles, but can be overcome simply by conscious effort on my ...
