Hierarchy of management that covers different levels of management
Evaluation question 4
1. Research
Throughout the research section of the process we used
the apple macs to access the internet and use multiple
programs to aid our research. As well as this we used
them to access other internet sites such as youtube and
the pearl and dean website, the multiple uses of the macs
made them absolutely essential to pretty much every
stage of the making of our three products.
The pearl and dean website was essential to our research.
The website had a feature that allowed us to view who the
target audience of multiple films were, and from the
information we could then find films that we felt were similar
to our and so therefore learn who the target audience for our
film would be. This information was important as it helped us
shape our film in order for it to appeal to our target audience
when it came to the planning and constructing parts of the
process.
YouTube was another online website that was crucial for us in
order to gain information about the conventions of the genre
we aimed for our film to be a part of. Using YouTube we were
able to watch a large amount of film trailers in the same
genre and therefore note down the common features they all
had and then later attempt to replicate some of these
features when it came to constructing the film as well as
planning it on our Mahara blogs.
Without access to the internet
through safari, our research would
have been a great deal more difficult.
This software allowed us to browse
through hundreds of websites filled
with film posters, trailers and more,
allowing us to complete a great deal
of research with easy as well as being
able to search in a good level of
detail. Without safari we wouldn't
have been able to do any of these
things.
Mahara is an online site that allows for
you to set up a blog in which you can
place links to websites as well as being
able to embed videos and other
important things. The information we
could record on Mahara made it
essential to every step of our process.
During the research stage we used our
blogs to place images of posters we
intended to use as inspiration as well as
embedding trailers we had found on
YouTube in order to refer to them at a
later stage to remind ourselves of the
conventions we needed to include.
2. Planning
Popplet was a tool we used to brainstorm our ideas in a creative
and attractive way. The online website allows you to create
colourful mind maps including images and links, we found this
very helpful when it came to planning as we could map out the
costumes, props and locations we intended to use for our film in
way that was easy to understand.
We used freesound in our planning to asses what music we
would have as a soundtrack to our trailer, as well as using the
website to gain sounds that we could use for foley and so on.
We found that, although the website was an easy way to get
sounds for free without worrying about copyright and so on,
there was quite a lack of choice when it came to selecting
certain sounds as there was not a large range of options when
it came to more specific sounds.
We used prezi in a similar way to popplet and found it a more attractive way of
presenting our plans than something like a powerpoint. We used to prezi to plan
out through the use of different slides the camera shots and mise en scene that we
intended to include in our teaser trailer. We found as a group that prezi was an
engaging way of creating these plans and helped us to remain creative as we
detailed the way we intended for our film to look.
We used Word to plan our
screenplay, it was simple and
easy to use as well as having a
huge number of fonts to use as
well as multiple layout options,
resulting in our screenplay being
simple to create but still
maintaining a professional look
about it.
3. Construction
We used the Canon DlSR to film our trailer, as well as using it to
take photographs for both our magazine cover and our poster.
Whilst some of the buttons and controls for how to operate the
camera were a little tricky to understand as first, once we had got
to grips with them we found that it was a very good piece of
equipment that offered a lot of options whilst also capturing the
images we wanted in very impressive quality.
We used Photoshop to edit our poster and magazine
cover. We found it to be a similar experience to using the
camera – tricky at first but after we came to terms with
each tool or function, what it did and how to use it, we
could maximise the potential of the software and use it to
create the product that we had visualised. We mainly used
the software for adding text to our products whilst also
making a lot use of the ways in which you could alter the
colour and levels of shadows, exposure etc of images.
We briefly used the garageband software in
order to create music the be played as a
backing track for our ident. We found it
straightforward to use and also enjoyable
as it had many options and ways in which
you could alter sound to your specification.
Final cut pro was the software we
used to edit all of our teaser
trailer. After getting to grips with
how the software works, we used
it to cut the length of clips, add
transitions and enhance the
colours of our shots. We found it
to be a very professional software
but also one was the reasonably
easy to use. We were also
pleased with the way in which the
software also allowed us to add
titles and other text to our trailer
in again a very professional
looking way.
Finally, we used YouTube to upload our finished trailer to
the internet, this was a straightforward process that was
helpfully guided along in steps by the website itself which
made it very simple to use.
4. Evaluation
I used Popplet in order to map out the audience
feeback we had received for our teaser trailer,
magazine cover and our poster. I felt it was a good
way to lay the feedback as i used to arrows to show
connections between the images i had uploaded of
the questionnaires we used and what they meant to
us as a group. In doing this i found it easy to explain
the way we have mad made changes as a result of
our feedback, as well as including images to show the
research i had done into the audience that our film
would be marketed at and also images that showed
evidence that we had tried to make changes as a
result of the comments. As previously mentioned,
the easy way popplet is lay out meant that attaching
analysis to these images was clear and simple whilst
also remaining attractive to view.
The creative lay in which slides of information can
be presented through the use of prezi made it
both easy and also engaging to evaluate the way in
which we had attempted to create a brand
identity. Similar to popplet, the way in which
pictures could be included alongside a set of notes
made it very straightforward when it came to
describing each step we had taken to bring some
form of cohesion between the three of our
products. The way that prezi uses separate slides
made it easy to devote an individual space to each
step, for example a slide on image and then
another on colour and so on, making each section
clear and allowing room for large amounts of
written detail.
Powerpoint was an effective way of
detailing the way in which we had
attempted to keep our teaser trailer linked
in with the conventions of the horror
genre. I found this software similar to using
prezi, however due to the increasing text
and layout options on powerpoint, a slightly
more appropriate tool for writing the level
of analysis that i intended to use for this
particular question. However in saying this,
in gaining the extra fonts and so on you do
lose the creativity seen in prezi that means
the slides can come across plain and
uninteresting at times.
