Memory

2. Memory
Memory is the mental process that enables
you to retain and recall past experience.
● Without memory you would repeat the
same mistakes over and over ,never
learning from them
● Everything register in your memory
sounds ,feelings ,words and images
3.
4. Steps Or The Three
RS of Memory
1) Record (Encoding)
Record means to select
and focus on something
you wants to remember
● Recording requires
paying attention to
information and linking it
to an existing knowledge
● Recording processing
incoming information so
that it can be entered into
a memory
5. Retain (Storage)
Retain means to store information or keep it
in your memory for later use
● You can retain information and keep it in
your memory for longer and longer
period
● Retain consists of retent of information
6. Recall (Retrieval)
Retain means to retrieve , recognise or
remember stored information
● The ability to retrieve and access from
memory allows you to use the memories
to answer questions ,perform task make
decisions and interact with each other
● Example you may have to recall the list
of items you had on your shopping list
7.
8. Sensory Memory(Input and
Attention)
Sensory Memory takes in data from the senses and
registers it fleetingly
● Sensory Memory translates information from the
senses into mental images or impressions
● Selective attention is a process that enables you to
focus your attention on certain things ignoring
others. When you concentrate you apply selective
attention
● While fleeting sensory Memory allows us to retain of
impression of environmental stimulus
9. Short term Memory( Record)
Short term memory also called “ working memory” has a
limited capacity and retains information such as the name of
someone you just met _for less than a minute
● Short term memory can hold information for approximately
30_40 seconds
● Recording information in your short term memory takes
concentration
10. Tips to improve recording
● Becomes more attentive and observant
● Engage as many of your senses as possible
● Ask questions as needed to aid understanding
● Before read a textbook chapter survey it to get
an overview of its content and to establish a
purpose for reading
11. Long term Memory ( Retain and
Recall)
Long term memory has a vast capacity ,is more or
less permanent ,and retains information such as
learned skills and personal experience
● Stored Information falls into three categories
● Verbal information ( comes from books and
any other printed source )
● Visual information (include everything you
see)
● Physical and motor information (you learn by
doing)
12. Some key ways to adopt active learning
strategy
1) Motivate your self
2) Listen and read actively
3) Recite and review
4) Do all assigned work than some
13. Improving recollection Suggestions and
Forgetting and Remembering
1) Preparing for tests
2) Choose your memory cues
3) Study similar subjects separately
4) Make and take practice
Forgetting and Remembering
● Forgetting is not only normal but necessary
● If you don't forget your mind is crammed with useless information
● Your mind stores only what you need and discords the rest
