2. Answer
The three products I have made I believe are very effective and have turned out to be
very successful. Looking at my music video, using the Canon 600D DSLR camera created
clear high quality shots throughout the music video, which is effective as it made the
video look professional. During the planning stages for my video, I conducted an
audience research survey for the target audience, giving me initial ideas of what I should
include in my music video. I also researched and analysed existing music videos of a
similar genre which gave me more ideas of what to include in my music video.
For my products I kept a consistent acoustic theme throughout. In every shot during the
music video, a guitar is shown, for example, when the artist is playing the guitar or when
the guitar is carried in the guitar case. Acoustic song tend to usually tell a love story. The
song which I chose “XO” expresses a breakup. My teammate and I decided to convey this
breakup in the magazine advert. The image in the magazine advert is made from a
pattern on Adobe Photoshop, the pattern makes the image look like there are gaps in the
artist. This is symbolic as it means that the artist is hurt and broken by the breakup,
hence the gaps in the image.
For the Auxiliary products (digipak and magazine advert) I included the Eden logo
promoting and representing the artist. It is important to ensure that the artist and
identity was present throughout the products, to sell the music instead of selling the
products itself.
3. Answer
I created my Digipak and magazine poster based on the theme and mis en scene of my
music video. Therefore I believe I have created a significant art of synergy between my
products. Roland Barthes theory of semiotics suggests that, a sign in this context, refers to
something which conveys meaning & the importance in being careful how we use words
and other signs. Throughout my music video I have referred to this theory. From the artists
body language, it is clear sign that he has suffered a heartbreak (breakup).
I used the same text font for the title on both my magazine advert and Digipak reinforcing
similarity and consistency. As the magazine poster itself is promoting the digipak (‘Debut
Album’) there is automatically a strong admiring relation between the two products.
