What is the situation of the people in the photograph? Provide evidence from the photo
That tells you this.
Pic 1: The boys in the photo are doing the infamous Nazi salute while riding bikes. The gesture they
are making, their attire, and the quality of the picture suggest that this picture was taken long ago
when the Nazi Political group was in power.
Pic 2: The soldiers are stationed somewhere outside of the country at a camp site. In the background,
there are tents and a perimeter of barbed wire on the outside of the camp. Also looking at the gun,
racial diversity, and the fact that the picture is colored supports that this picture was taken during the
Vietnam War.
Pic 3: In the picture, they are pouring something down a sewer drain. As the liquid hits the ground, it
foam ups, so it’s safe to assume that it isn’t water. Also the attire of the men, the language in the
background, and the quality of the picture suggest that it’s an older photo. From my guess, this
picture was taken during the prohibition, and the liquid being poured down the sewer is alcohol.
What message do you think the photographer was trying to convey?
Pic 1: The customs and ethics of the Nazi political group were reaching boys at a very young age.
Pic 2: It’s just a picture of a platoon at a camp site during the war.
Pic 3: Many people were happy about the banning of alcohol. They even got together to pour it down
the sewers.
Why is this photograph important to history?
Pic 1: It shows how what how the Nazi party had affected the nation’s youth at the time
Pic 2: It gives us a good idea of what the terrain and the weaponry was like outside of our own
country, and on a camp site.
Pic 3: The prohibition era was a major era of corruption in the city, as many people, mostly men did
not like the fact that alcohol was outlawed. This in turned increased the crime rate, as people
manufactured and distributed alcohol illegally.
2. What questions does this photograph raise?
Pic 1: Why are the boys on bikes, and what does it have to do with the Nazi party?
Pic 2: The soldiers clearly aren’t on the front line, so where are they right now?
Also, why do they all look so happy?
Pic 3: Why do they seem like they’re celebrating when the average and even wealthy white American
males enjoyed alcohol, and caused the increase in crime rates after the law was set in motion?
