2. One of the most visited tourist destinations in Egypt are the pyramids.
There are 128 known pyramids; most were built as tombs for the country's
Pharaohs and their consorts during the Old and Middle Kingdom periods.
3. The Sphinx is a limestone
statue of a reclining or
couchant sphinx (a mythical
creature with a lion's body and
a human head) that stands on
the Giza Plateau on the west
bank of the Nile in Giza. It
stands 67 feet high and 241 ft.
in length. It is one of the oldest
statues in the world with an
age of more than 4500 years.
4. The Primary water source
to Egyptians, the Nile is
the life artery for Egypt.
The longest river in the
world, the Nile is an
astounding, 4,130 miles
long and extends across
eleven countries. Nearly
all the cultural and
historical sites of Ancient
Egypt are found along the
Nile’s riverbanks.
5. Believed by many to be the mountain that Moses climbed to speak to
God and then returned with the, “Ten Commandments,” this
mountain is a pilgrimage for hundreds of thousands annually.
