An Active Listener Is A Key Tool For Management And...
I. Introduction
The key to knowing what is on a person mind are the conversations. I have always heard be an
active listen. An active listener is a person who response to what is being said and not a
premeditated response. A person will say do you hear me but the question is, "Are you listening?"
The art of conversation is a key tool for management and upcoming leaders. In the book are sample
script on what to say and how to say it. Conversation can make or break the teams moral or catapult
your team to next level. It is so easy to focus on the past and the results of the past. The hardness job
is changing the conversation from the past to spend majority of your conversion about the present
and the future. Past results are the rubrics used to make decisions; the present and future has no
manifested measurable results to make a conclusion. There are a few chapters will be discussed:
tapping your most precious asset, making things happen, changing organizational culture, changing
your image and conversation as a way of life.
II. Tapping your most precious asset
Your greatest asset as a leader is conversation. Conversation is two–fold you can use it to receive
information or you can use to give information. When giving information it may be used to help
individuals support your vision. Receiving information can used to assist with gaining information
to benefit your mission.
Conversation includes speaking, listening, writing, reading, verbal and nonverbal behavior,

Media Laden Day And Age Collective Memory
There is Candy in little bowls on an old serving table by the front door. Pumpkins are all lit up
around the porch rails,
There is chatter of delight as children run through dry crunchy leaves..... I remember being 8–years–
old, trying to see in the dark through a sweaty plastic mask strapped around my head with a flimsy
elastic band,
We would run up and down the neighborhood streets in poorly made plastic costumes with our
winter jackets stuffed underneath. At the end of the hunt My friends and I would dump out all of our
sugary bounty onto the couch, trade some nerds for some whoppers and gorge ourselves sick. This
happened every year on the night of October 31st. It is Christmas. Everything feels special. The
night is electric ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These memories can be passed on and reconstructed. This is what creates our traditions which then
in turn creates cultures. Cultures so rich with vitality and vivid in color. Our collective memories are
an accumulated knowledge and set of ideologies that we share through our social interactions
between groups of people. Our collective memories have constructed our languages, social
practices, ritual, religion, cooking, architecture, our physical expressions such as art, music, dance,
mythology, philosophy and literature We need our memories to shape who we are. We need to soak
up all the feelings from those memories whether good or bad. You need sadness to show you true
happiness, you need sickness to know good health, you need absence to value presence, and you
need dark to appreciate the light. Your life is a collection of your memories you carry with you to
the present day and beyond. Your collection is entwined with others' collections and so we all
become interwoven and become what our memories make us,

Analysis Of Mary Wroth's Sonnet 19
Time, a river that travels endlessly in the same direction, never able to go back, you must always
follow the current downstream. While we are young, we think little of time and rarely worry about
what the future may hold. However, as we continue to age, we become more and more aware of the
impact our actions make on the rest of our lives. Even now, as I sit here at the fairly young age of
17, I am already worried that I have not made the most of the time that has been given to me. With
all the pressure put on youth to decide their future so early into their lives, it is no wonder we harbor
this anxiety. Often, I find myself romanticizing the past because the future seems so frightening
which many psychologists, like Toni Bernhard, consider to be an unhealthy behavior, but what else
is there for me to do? As Lady Mary Wroth said, "In this strange labyrinth how shall I turn?" All of
my worries about the past, present, and future are all mirrored well in Wroth's Sonnet 77, as this
poem encapsulates my feelings of not wanting to stay where I am, but not knowing which path to
take in life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes sense then that many of the memories made in our youths are the ones we remember most
vividly. Due to our childlike sense of wonder, these memories seem almost magical because, to a
child, everything is new experience. I can clearly envision my various trips with my grandparents to
lakes or river, or even simply to their home. While the person I currently am would consider this
boring, as I child I only wanted to explore the world around me as much as I could, to see something
totally alien. Looking back, I have only the desire to return to this period of my life so that I may
once again feel the lack of life's burden on my shoulders. I feel just as Wroth did when she says,
"Let me turn back, Shame cries I ought return." Alas, I can never return, for time's clock never ticks

The Past Is Our Definition
An American novelist Wendell Berry once said that "the past is our definition." But does the past
truly hold enough strength to impact one's life? Is it merely a faded thought? Or does it provide an
insight into one's being? Quite often the past is simply referred to as a certain amount of elapsed
time. However, it is more than just a quantifying term. The past is the memoir of one's existence. It
is the recollection of memories. The past is the keeper of our dreams, our struggles and our fears. It
is the moments that collectively create both one's present and personality. The past is a series of
chords which when played in the right combinations produce a melodious euphony. On the other
hand, it may be an avalanche bearing the symbol of one's destruction. In times of sorrow, a glimpse
into the past can provide relief by reminding one of moments of joy, by allowing him to relive them
in his mind and by reducing the magnitude of his grief through this mirage. The past teaches a
person to learn from his failures. Through the provision of a clear picture of one's faults, the past
compels a person to alter his course of action or change his behavior as time progresses in order to
abstain from committing the same mistakes again. Thus, the past can shape one into an entirely
different person. "Bear Came Over The Mountain" by Alice Munro is the tale of a couple's distress
as the wife, Fiona is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The story deals with

My Behaviors And The Aspects Of My Life That Have...
Throughout this semester, I have had the opportunity to analyze my behaviors and the aspects of my
life that have influenced those behaviors. There were several events that happened this semester that
enabled me focus on myself. The break up with my ex–boyfriend allowed me to focus on myself
and cope with my past experiences. I also was able to work on my self–confidence and find a small
level of comfort talking in front of people. One major event that happened this semester, was the
breaking up with my ex–boyfriend. I have not dated anyone in a few years, prior to dating him, so
dating someone was a big step. I have trouble trusting other people, since most people end up
leaving. The lack of emotional attachment has been a defense mechanism. My mother stopped
talking or having any contact with me after my father was granted custody. I lost the connection
with my grandparents and that side of the family after moving out of state. Trusting another person
to not leave and trusting what they say was an extremely difficult task for me. I began dating my
boyfriend and everything was fine for the first couple of months, but after we both started to get
busy, things became difficult. We both worked and were going to school, so there was not much free
time for us to spend time together. We also never really got to know each other, we jumped head
first into a relationship. During this time, I started having panic attacks again with any physical
contact. Anything that was not

Annie Dillard 's An Exploration Into The Way Human Beings
At some point in each of our lives we will take a step back and look at the way we are living our
lives and wonder if we are living them correctly. This is exactly what annie dilliard does in this
essay.
Annie Dillard's essay is just an exploration into the way human beings might live. When she sees a
weasel, she looks into the life of that weasel. Studying how it lives its life. Then she compares it to
humans. Human beings are creatures of caution and fear. We never fully live our lives because we
are too caught up with avoiding risks. We think, debate, and calculate each and every move while
weasels just simply act. A weasel is a creature of action and instinct. A weasel lives its life the way it
was created to, not questioning his motives, simply striking when the time is right. I agree with
Dillard's idea that we "might learn something of mindlessness, something of the purity of living in
the physical senses and the dignity of living without bias or motive" (Dillard 210).
The thing that keeps human beings from living the purest life possible, like the weasel is our minds.
To live freely we need to live our lives with less hesitation and fear. Dillard says we should forget
our ability of thought and choice all together. But the way we live should not be simply thrown
away for a chance to live completely "free of bias or motive" (Dillard 210). We have our morals,
conscience, emotions, and values. We have the ability to think and feel at the same time. We can
chose how

August Wilson's Fences
The future is unpredictable, but how you prepare for it plays a big role in how it'll turn out to be for
you. Decisions you make now helps shape the person you become. In Fences, August Wilson shows
how the person you are affects not only your life, but the people's life around you. Troy has a hard
time accepting what's to come in the future because of past decisions. August Wilson shows this
theme that previous choices made has a toll on your future in his book, Fences, Through the
behavior the main character Troy has towards other characters of the novel. The strict, stubborn, and
sneaky Troy makes some bad decisions that catches up with him later on in life.

I Will Revisit Russon 's Definition Of Memory, And Three...
In this paper I will revisit Russon's definition of memory, and three of the aspects that he presents as
important in the memory process. I will also argue that our body play an important role for our
remembering, as does the objects we interact with. As well as present my position on Russon
description of memory demonstrating that Russon's description is indeed relatable to the actual
human experience. Russon's definition of memory is not subjected to one main idea, but rather an
intertwining of related ideas pertaining to experience. He views memory as, "What we experience as
the determinateness of objects that communicates to us what we can and cannot do," (Russon 41).
To emphasize, we experience our world through interactions with the world's objects. The contact
made with these objects provides an identity for them that later communicates to us about ourselves.
Russon present this idea of memory based on two types of memory, implicit and explicit. Implicit
memory are memories that we remember in part, while explicit memory are those that we remember
completely. An example that Russon gives in another instance that connects to this is the idea of him
terminating his lease and having a few weeks remaining is inscribed in everything within his
apartment. Each object represents the identity of the future commitment of moving whether
pervasively or occasionally. However Russon thinks that for us to remember there are certain
aspects that needs to be involve. First is

m, and to try to understand its significance, then he/she will be left behind it, none–the–wiser. In
Ode on a Grecian Urn, Keats states "heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter ." The
elements are that tangible and noticeable are important, but it is the unseen or unnoticed elements
that hold a greater meaning. The noticeable elements, such as the people, the towns, and the material
possessions only last for a short time, so they are sweet while they last, but the unseen elements,
such as love, happiness, messages, cultures, and beliefs, are sweeter because they accompany time
as it changes from one event to the next, as they do through the urn, delivered by its art to Keats. He
additionally states "soft pipes, play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The time continually moves forward, no matter the order that the events are arranged in, in order to
bring the past to the present, as it did with the urn in Ode . In my opinion, I find that I support Keats
definition on the flow of time. To explain, I shall compare and contrast the two definitions. Keats
defines the process of the flow of time as a transport in order for elements from the past, such as
emotions and messages, to survive past their current time and last into the future. The flow of time
serves as a way for the people of the future, such as Keats, to be reminded of the values and beliefs
of the certain civilization or group during that time, so that the people may learn from the past and
will not forget what is important to themselves. For Price, however, the flow of time is another form
of the process where the Real Time moves from one event to the next, except that the planning of
the events extends to the future. With this in mind, I support Keats's definition, as the flow of time
serves its own purpose in the continual progression of time, just as the Real Time had its own
purpose as well. The urn survives through time to tell us nothing at all, yet the

Easter Sunday. It was Benjy's thirty–third birthday. However, Benjy has mental ill; he has the mind
of a child and does not understand the connection of things around him. He remembers nothing
except the past with his sister, Caddy. Throughout Benjamin section, "fire" is mentioned more than
forty times. Benjy is fascinated by the fire: "What is fire to Benjy? It is something he can see as
more immediate and concrete than anything with perhaps the exception of Caddy" (Martin 2).
Benjamin seems to live mostly in the past before Caddy moved out of the house. Sometimes, Benjy

is a "mother" to Benjamin; she knows exactly how to relax and calm Benjy while their mother
would rather just let Benjy cry. Caddy also takes responsibility for Benjy with their father: "Are you
going to take good care of Maury." "Yes." Caddy said" (66). Because Caddy is considerable the only
one in the family cares about Benjy, he becomes too attached to Caddy. He does not want Caddy to

Difference Between Modern And Modern Civilization
The most important aspect of society organization is civilization. Civilization in which we live today
has been developing over the decades from ancient world through medieval times until the modern
world. Without a doubt, some heritage came from the past as customs and traditions. However, more
importantly that modern world differ in many ways with both ancient and medieval times. People
can see the differences and similarities between these times by reading relevant texts of that
particular time. Every single time period had alike understanding of what is good and what is bed,
how the God looks like, how people should chose and respect their leader and each other. Different
times have alike understandings of family structure, behavior, or humanities. Therefore, organization
of society, that forms civilization itself, was varying from ancient world until nowadays, developing
constantly. Considering organization of society as an evolving model of civilization, it would
include such subunits as religion, law and justice, arts along with literature and music, politics,
manners, and ethics. Moreover, looking on world development at each period of time out of three, it
becomes clear that every unit like law or religion has been changing persistently. Thus, all of the
units were at variance from culture to culture. For example, in one culture religion was over the law,
while in other culture it was opposite. People can argue forever on what was the most significant
unit that

The Meaning Of Agona By George Santianina
"Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." These illustrious words were
spoken by George Santayana. They are words that carry special meaning to me. I have heard these
words spoken by some of the most powerful influencers and role models, such as Chuck Palahniuk
and Mark Twain. Many people see our history and future as a chaotic timeline of events and
historical moments that define who we are and who we have been, but that is not always the case.

Luke advises his son, Nigel, about how to interact with white people. Luke does his work in a

like a 'white man'. This shows that slaves' behavior is mostly irrelevant and they are just sold for no
reason or put up for any crime possible. They are just portrayed as something to be made a profit.
This quote shows the importance of the plot as the way slaves were portrayed and treated.

Character Analysis: A Long Way Home
Over the course of this quarter and challenge, I have learned about how important the past is to your

me its importance. Saroo states that his "experiences have undoubtedly shaped who I am today"

self. My past influences how I think, how I speak, and how I deal with emotions and situations.
Because of reading A Long Way Home, I learned the incredible journey of Saroo's life and how his

Why Does History Matter
A question often asked is, "Why does history matter?" History is a subject taught to people all
around the world and is essential to the survival of the human race. History matters because it
connects things through time, helps present–day people to make better decisions than their
predecessors based on past events, and teaches individuals about their heritage.
First, history matters because it connects all things throughout the fabric of time. People are like
living histories because each has a rich past full of ancestors and events that brought them to the
place they are in present day. History connects the past and present in many ways that most people
don't even see. Different communities speak languages that were created long before their ... Show

It is important for people to know about their predecessors and how they came to be in existence. I
have always been fascinated in the rich history of my family. Being first generation immigrant, I
have witnessed the great move across the Atlantic firsthand and know how hard it is to leave your
family and home behind to create a new life. My grandmother, on my mother's side, was born in
former Yugoslavia, present day Serbia, as Adelheid Amschlinger. In 1943 she had to flee her home
because of World War II. Yugoslavia had been annexed by the Nazis in 1941 and was introduced to
racial laws and persecution of Jews and other political opponents. People started uprising all
throughout the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the violence was enough to force my grandmother, her
sister, and mother to flee. Adelheid's father was captured in 1944, while they were trying to flee and
was killed. They fled to Austria, in hopes of finding safety, and were forced to change their names.
Adelheid, her mother, and her sister lived on the countryside for years in a place near the city of
Graz. There they resided until my grandmother, then known as Jana Amschlinger, decided to move
to Vienna, Austria and started a family with my grandfather, Michael Wisniewski. After having my
mother, Sitra Wisniewski, Michael and Jana divorced. Both continued to live in Vienna and my
mother grew up in Vienna, as well. My mother and father, both Austrians, then married and had my
sister and I. In the spring of 2004, my mother, Sitra Tauscher–Wisniewski, and my father, Johannes

Depression And Anxiety And Depression
Although anxiety and depression may seem to be separate categories of symptoms, as outlined in the
DSM–5 (APA, 2013), and therefore different, many theorists posit that there is an underlying set of
factors for both (Clark, Steer & Beck, 1994, Clark & Watson, 1991). Such commonalities between
the diagnoses may explain the common comorbidity (Wittchen, Zhao, Kessler, & Eaton, 1994). The
high comorbidity between anxiety and mood disorders exacerbates the debate on the distinguish
ability of the constructs (Andrews, 1996).
One central component of anxiety and depression is the anticipation of negative future outcomes
(Miranda, & Mennin, 2007). This has been found across a wide age range, from adolescents to
adults (Kagan, MacLeod, & Pote, 2004). However, depression and anxiety differ in that those with
higher depression scores tend to also anticipate a low chance of positive future outcomes (MacLeod,
Tata, Kentish, & Jacobsen, 1997). Not only do individuals with depression differ from anxious
individuals with regards to low anticipation of positive outcomes, they also differ from non
depressed individuals in that they are more likely to hold such pessimistic beliefs about the future
(Anderson, 1990). This supports the tripartite model (Clark & Watson, 1991) of high anticipation of
negative outcomes, and low anticipation of positive outcomes.

The tripartite model of depression (Clark & Watson, 1991) states that the differences in anxiety and

Questions On Time Orientation And Gender Orientation
2.8.2 Time Orientation
As stated in Bergadaa (1990); Zinbardo and Boyd (1999) have stated that three time orientations are
established in people, such as past, present, and future orientation. These factors are measured the
bias in order to people have each category of time orientation. Therefore, most people in the present
can also think in terms of their future (Cotte, Ratneshwar, and Mick 2004). Moreover, time
orientations of each difference are also various factors such as confidence, attitude of life, priorities,
and risk–taking capability (Zimbardo and Boyd, 1999)
A. Past orientation
Personals those who are concerned with past orientation are contented in their memories and keep
their memories in the past mode (Zimbardo and Boyd 1999). It was due to the past modes of
behavior has provided a comfortable pattern. Thus, these personals have hesitated to try innovative
products, which these personals acting are not impulsive. Moreover, Holbrook et al., (1993) has
argued that correspond to Zimbardo and Boyd (1999) that people who are extremely nostalgic as
associating with a preference for goods and services that has reminded them to feel happy in the
past. While, Cotte, Ratnesshwar, and Mick (2004) have found a similar situation that females who
are nostalgic as consistent with time pattern of time as a mirror, which these women mostly avoid
unacquainted activities or to try the new things, and need to do familiar activities that they have

When one looks to lift themselves over society, then they are unhealthy. Other factors that influence
personality and lifestyle development are the family, an individual's birth order, family atmosphere,
family values and parental styles. Perception is key. How an individual views their surroundings and
how an individual takes in feedback from that environment will strongly influence how they act and
live their life. I think any traits that are inherent, only will fully develop with the aid of
environmental influences. Socializing and social interactions heavily influence the outcome of the
use of one's personality traits. A style of life dictates how you live and how you view the world. This
is a direct result of learned experiences from your past and your actions are dictated by your goals. I

Time being means temporary action, which will definitely change. For example, life is time being.
We never know what will happen to us in the next seconds, hours, days, months, or even years. Or, a
super huge tsunami which is much bigger and powerful than the tsunami that crashed Japan on
March 11, 2011 could destroy New York City in the next second. Besides, we are able to change our

Ruth is looking for Pesto in the forest, the crows "warn" (P.331) Ruth to stay away, which connote
the death of Pesto. Likewise, the author, Ozeki, uses the crows' appearance to imply that Jiko's death
day is near future. The cat, Pesto, is a trouble maker. He is always doing bad things like leaving the

perspectives on what is considered to be the real world and "true living". One must ask, what does it
mean to be living in the present? Does it mean to be fully engaged in the current moment or doing
what brings happiness? There are different opinions on this idea, one being that it is harmful for one
not to live in the present and another being that the use of counterfactual thinking can benefit one's
life. In "Alone Together," Sherry Turkle discusses how using technology to escape reality is
detrimental to the authenticity of relationships. She stated that in order to have a genuine
relationship, there should be more interaction within the real world. In the same manner, Janet
Flammang in " The Taste for Civilization: Food, Politics, and Civil Society," explains how the
avoidance of face–to–face communication can cause a lack of connection with the real world.
However, in "Possible Worlds: Why Do Children Pretend?"Alison Gopnik argues that while
referring back to counterfactuals can be harmful, it can also be helpful. Counterfactuals allow us to
live in the past rather than fully living in the present. Focusing on the past can be beneficial to the
present because past experiences can help aid upcoming endeavors.

Howard Zinn's Historian As Citizen
To Howard Zinn, history is no more than a looking glass for historians to see what needs to change
in the modern world. Zinn explains how historians should see the past and the future in his 1966
essay "Historian as Citizen". He begins by stating that historians cling too tightly to the patterns of
the past and are wrong in using them as a guide to the future. He says, "This necessariness of the
past tends to infect our thinking about the future, weighing down our disposition to act" (Zinn 44).
Already, Zinn makes a broad statement that counters the aged ways of historians everywhere. He is
asking them to let go of history. This is offputting to some but it is his strong voice that makes his
philosophy so grand.
Now that he has captivated his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zinn writes, "Both history and art should instruct us. The crucial thing is to reveal the relationship
between evil and ourselves. This makes it enormously useful to show how Hitler could emerge out
of a boy playing in a field" (Zinn 49). Zinn is not saying that history is not important. He is saying
that it should not be seen as irrevocable facts and instead viewed as art. We view art as up for
interpretation, insightful, and inspiring. Zinn is simply offering that we do the same with history. As
previously stated, the past gives us understanding of the roots of evil. Using our history in this way
is a tremendous tool, as Zinn demonstrates with the innocent boy to Hitler example. A problem with
this argument is that humans are not easily willing to admit to their mistakes. "When the United
States defines to Soviet sphere as 'totalitarian' and the West as 'free,' it becomes difficult for
Americans to see totalitarian elements in our society, and liberal elements in Soviet society" (Zinn
49). Nations, especially the United States, get so wrapped up in patriotism that they refuse to see the
flaws in their systems and the perks of others. So, even if Zinn's thesis of self criticism was more
popular, it is unrealistic that anyone would actually accept

Similarities Between Land And Landscape In Gil Paris
PEOPLE AND LANDSCAPE. The relationship existing between society, land and landscape is
complex. People's attitudes continuously reflect in their behavior, notably patterns of consumption
via existing recreational activities, as well as in their expressed preferences. Society attaches great
significance to land. As evident in the movie Midnight in Paris, Gil Pender an American
Screenwriter falls in love with the Paris landscape while he visits his fiancée. He has possession of

The Comparison Between Miss Brill And Evelyn And Miss Austen
The comparison between the protagonist Miss Brill and Evelyn:
In the short story "Miss Brill" by Mansfield the protagonist is holding onto the past. She has
delusions of what her life once was, and tries to look at the presence. However, in the short story
"Eveline," by Joyce, Eveline the protagonist is trying to hold onto the future and deny the past. Both
characters, however, in the end, lose hold of their fantasies and have to face reality. Miss Brill learns
of her delusion when she is out at the park listening to the band play music. She imagines herself as
being young and desired. The writer Mayfield uses her fur as a symbolism of her beauty and youth.
While Miss Brill is sitting at the park, she imagines a life where everyone is happy and joyous. She
dreams that everyone is on stage performing. Unfortunately, a young couple comes and sits next to
her and degrades her fur and disrespects her. This astonished behavior makes Miss Brill have to face
reality. She realizes that she is not the young woman Miss Brill so wishes to hold onto, but the old
lady that she fears to live. Miss Brill is so upset about this resolution that Miss Brill leaves the park
and walks home skipping her routine of stopping at the bakery and getting her Sunday treat. She
walks back to a place that she calls a cupboard. This symbolism is a dark and isolated room,
expressing that a home Miss Brill is alone and sad. When Miss Brill gets home, she grabs the box
for her fur and puts the coat back

Character Analysis: The Glass Castle
Everyone that has ever lived has a past. We all know this. Whether if it was filled with drug
addiction, alcoholism, or abuse. Or if it was filled with supporting families, prosperous parents, or a
happy childhood. Our outlook onto the world is most typically formed on what we have experienced
in the past. But we cannot let this define us. In the glass castle, there are many examples of how a
person's childhood or past does not define who they become in the future. Although I agree that
someone's past can affect them, I do not agree that their past defines them as a person. Jeanette

resilience and redemption. In Jeanette's childhood she was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Arthur Leander's Station Eleven
The nature of one's history has an inevitable effect on their future. In many cases, the forthcoming
situations that one faces are based on recollections of the past and their interpretation of it. Within
the novel, Station Eleven, author Emily St. John Mandel develops a plethora of characters whose
past actions and memories have a considerable effect on their future. This is exemplified through the
impact that Arthur's turmoil lifestyle has on him as he ages, Tyler's development of radicalistic
beliefs due to his exposure towards profound ideology from a very young age, along with Kirsten's
change in perspective and formation of interests due to prior actions and memories. Throughout his
acting career, Arthur Leander's dramatic lifestyle as well as series of tumultuous events impact him
greatly. As decades go by, Arthur's previous affairs reshape his mentality for the future. His fame
results in a substantial lack of privacy, and after years of encountering such exposure to the public,
his sole desire is to be left in peace. Despite this, during the opening years of his acting career,
Arthur is desperate for his first glimpse of fame and "wants to be famous" (St. John Mandel, 110).
As his career progresses, this desire begins to vanish due to his loss of personal privacy; largely due

today's generations of high school students of American history. They are being given a false

The History Of Prehistory And History
According to the British historian E.H. Carr, "The line of demarcation between prehistoric and
historical times crossed when people cease to live only in the present, and become consciously
interested both in their past and in their future. History begins with the handing down of tradition".
So prehistory is the event that happened during the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. During the
prehistoric era, a number of inventions and discoveries arise. Therefore, during the Iron Age, the
prehistory gradually ended. After this era, everything that happened during prehistory is now
considered to be a history. Therefore, in order to preserve prehistory, it will be recorded as a history.
So now, the history contains the archeological materials and fossils that existed during prehistoric
era.
Both prehistory and history have a stringline difference because they are somehow alike in their
purpose and significance to the society. Prehistory that later became a history provides us with
details of how people lived to survive during those early ages when there is no technological

The Study Of History: Edward Carr, And Peter Stearns
Why do people have different perspectives on history? How do those perspectives affect them, and
can those perspectives be useful? History is the study of the events of the past. But, how one
acknowledges and understands those events is different among others. Men, such as, Edward Carr,
John Barker, Will Durant, Frederick Turner, and Peter Stearns have spent decades trying to learn of
the past, in hopes of some explanation that satisfies their curiosity. In the works that each of the men
have published, there are more differences in reasons than similarities. One may see history as a
never–ending subject on the events that have occurred in the past; another may see history as an
explanation of how the world works, but all in all, these authors ... Show more content on

He warns his reader to not just focus on one historian, but on multiple, and gather an overall
understanding of the facts. Additionally, Stearns makes claims that history helps us understand
people, societies, and change, and it provides identity, good citizenship, and moral understanding of
the world around us. This, I believe, is not always true. Take racism, for example. Knowing the
history behind a race may help another understand and feel empathetic towards that race, but it may
also be taken the wrong way. Knowing the history behind the two races may lead to even angrier
disputes, as something might have happened, and people take it the wrong way, and would continue
to be racist. There is some fault in Stearns' reasoning, but he gives really great reasons for studying
history. In short, there are positive and negative reasons for studying history, but it is now one put
that into context, that leads to certain

Evaluate The Passage Of Time
As historians evaluate the passage of time, it is necessary to place various markers that signify a
change. In geologic history, these markers can be found in rock layers and often indicate a large
extinction event. In sports history, the markers can be set by equipment or by participants and
demonstrate a notable change in the way a game is played. In human history, specifically recent
human history, the markers of momentous change are usually difficult to quantify. Rarely can a
historian look back at one time or event and claim that it was important. The best that historians can
do is break up human history into generations, or segments of time in which people were exposed to
similar forces. The generations can last few or many years, and ... Show more content on

Many would never consider comparing the 1945 American classic play The Glass Menagerie by

How Does Scrooge Change In A Christmas Carol
John F. Kennedy once said, "Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or

How The Pain And Trauma Of The Holocaust Affected Artie...
In Art Spiegelman's graphical novel Maus his demonstration of the Holocaust and its recollection in
Maus was very emotional, affecting and the most expressing. The approach that the author has taken
construes and magnifies the comical shape of telling history. It portrays Spiegelman dialog between
himself and his father about his happenings as holocaust and polish jew survivor. Most of the
narrative specifically focuses on Spiegelman 's difficult connection with his father, and the
nonappearance of his mother who committed suicide when he was 20.In this essay I will be
examining the experience of trauma and memory in Maus. Also I will be showing how the pain and
trauma of the Holocaust affected Artie and Vladek 's diasporic memories. Trauma usually describes
the association with chronological or combined traumatic proceedings to experiences that happen to
others. These occasions are internalized circuitously through images, and stories and other recaps
and reminders of their family's occurrences. Spiegelman also investigates and addresses the load and
legacy of distressing reminiscence on second–generation survivors. In the narrative Maus discovers
and documents this behavior of dual memory. Throughout the story Art talks about the state of
affairs in which his father's reminiscences are expressed. The chronological and personal trauma
produced by the Holocaust, and by simplifying the reintegration of the following generation to its
past.

The Importance Of The Past In The Dew Breaker
The past is so vital to the characters of Danticat's novel The Dew Breaker because despite most of
the trauma the characters have undergone in the past, they must keep living with it and tell their
story. One piece of symbolism that is persistent between every chapter are the scars that every
character has. Scars have been a central image of this novel both literally and metaphorically. Each
character has their unique scars that they must carry with them. The story, in the end, talks about
how the scars of the past are the scars of the future. Every scar is a symbol of the characters' painful
history that they had to overcome, and now they must carry their past with themselves forever. The
scars of the past define precisely the importance of the past for every individual character. The past
is a part of all people at all moment. Past scars lie over all of the characters in this novel. A character
like Ka's father is once corrupted by partaking in a violent, dictatorial regime. A character like
Beatrice is haunted by the horrors that impose on her in the past. The past is inescapable because it
is a core part of a person that it largely dictates the reasoning behind their actions in present
situations. The past is something which haunts each of the characters in the novel for different
reasons. It left a scar on them that they must forever live with. The past haunts ka's father as a dew

No Name Woman By Maxine Hong Kingston's No Name Woman
The final piece finds its place. A perfectly planned future envisioned by many, floats mysteriously
ahead, but one look back restrains the head from focusing forward again, for the future is no longer
certain when past events cloud the making of new decisions. Human beings often fail to recognize
the significance 0f past events and the way they shape their future. This demonstrates the fact that a
person's individual past experiences often restrict the process of personal reinvention. Thus, one's
history, and specifically their childhood, confirms the current beliefs that affect their self–invention.
To begin, the opinions an individual formed as a child often delay or decrease personal growth.
From past experiences, people build a foundation of values and morals. On one hand, self invention
suggests that a person can separate the development of their character from their past experiences,
but on the other hand, a person seldom reinvents themselves because ideas already set in place
repress other opportunities. Children remember specific customs such as family or cultural traditions
from their parents as they attempt to expand their knowledge. An example of this concept from the
short story, No Name Woman, written by Maxine Hong Kingston, illustrates how a woman felt
trapped by the customs she learned at a young age, which eventually led to her death. Kingston
states, "She had to have dealings with him other than sex. Perhaps he worked an adjoining field, or

  • 3. Media Laden Day And Age Collective Memory There is Candy in little bowls on an old serving table by the front door. Pumpkins are all lit up around the porch rails, There is chatter of delight as children run through dry crunchy leaves..... I remember being 8–years– old, trying to see in the dark through a sweaty plastic mask strapped around my head with a flimsy elastic band, We would run up and down the neighborhood streets in poorly made plastic costumes with our winter jackets stuffed underneath. At the end of the hunt My friends and I would dump out all of our sugary bounty onto the couch, trade some nerds for some whoppers and gorge ourselves sick. This happened every year on the night of October 31st. It is Christmas. Everything feels special. The night is electric ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These memories can be passed on and reconstructed. This is what creates our traditions which then in turn creates cultures. Cultures so rich with vitality and vivid in color. Our collective memories are an accumulated knowledge and set of ideologies that we share through our social interactions between groups of people. Our collective memories have constructed our languages, social practices, ritual, religion, cooking, architecture, our physical expressions such as art, music, dance, mythology, philosophy and literature We need our memories to shape who we are. We need to soak up all the feelings from those memories whether good or bad. You need sadness to show you true happiness, you need sickness to know good health, you need absence to value presence, and you need dark to appreciate the light. Your life is a collection of your memories you carry with you to the present day and beyond. • 5. Analysis Of Mary Wroth's Sonnet 19 Time, a river that travels endlessly in the same direction, never able to go back, you must always follow the current downstream. While we are young, we think little of time and rarely worry about what the future may hold. However, as we continue to age, we become more and more aware of the impact our actions make on the rest of our lives. Even now, as I sit here at the fairly young age of 17, I am already worried that I have not made the most of the time that has been given to me. With all the pressure put on youth to decide their future so early into their lives, it is no wonder we harbor this anxiety. Often, I find myself romanticizing the past because the future seems so frightening which many psychologists, like Toni Bernhard, consider to be an unhealthy behavior, but what else is there for me to do? As Lady Mary Wroth said, "In this strange labyrinth how shall I turn?" All of my worries about the past, present, and future are all mirrored well in Wroth's Sonnet 77, as this poem encapsulates my feelings of not wanting to stay where I am, but not knowing which path to take in life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It makes sense then that many of the memories made in our youths are the ones we remember most vividly. Due to our childlike sense of wonder, these memories seem almost magical because, to a child, everything is new experience. I can clearly envision my various trips with my grandparents to lakes or river, or even simply to their home. While the person I currently am would consider this boring, as I child I only wanted to explore the world around me as much as I could, to see something totally alien. Looking back, I have only the desire to return to this period of my life so that I may once again feel the lack of life's burden on my shoulders. I feel just as Wroth did when she says, "Let me turn back, Shame cries I ought return." Alas, I can never return, for time's clock never ticks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Past Is Our Definition An American novelist Wendell Berry once said that "the past is our definition." But does the past truly hold enough strength to impact one's life? Is it merely a faded thought? Or does it provide an insight into one's being? Quite often the past is simply referred to as a certain amount of elapsed time. However, it is more than just a quantifying term. The past is the memoir of one's existence. It is the recollection of memories. The past is the keeper of our dreams, our struggles and our fears. It is the moments that collectively create both one's present and personality. The past is a series of chords which when played in the right combinations produce a melodious euphony. On the other hand, it may be an avalanche bearing the symbol of one's destruction. In times of sorrow, a glimpse into the past can provide relief by reminding one of moments of joy, by allowing him to relive them in his mind and by reducing the magnitude of his grief through this mirage. The past teaches a person to learn from his failures. Through the provision of a clear picture of one's faults, the past compels a person to alter his course of action or change his behavior as time progresses in order to abstain from committing the same mistakes again. Thus, the past can shape one into an entirely different person. "Bear Came Over The Mountain" by Alice Munro is the tale of a couple's distress as the wife, Fiona is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The story deals with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. My Behaviors And The Aspects Of My Life That Have... Throughout this semester, I have had the opportunity to analyze my behaviors and the aspects of my life that have influenced those behaviors. There were several events that happened this semester that enabled me focus on myself. The break up with my ex–boyfriend allowed me to focus on myself and cope with my past experiences. I also was able to work on my self–confidence and find a small level of comfort talking in front of people. One major event that happened this semester, was the breaking up with my ex–boyfriend. I have not dated anyone in a few years, prior to dating him, so dating someone was a big step. I have trouble trusting other people, since most people end up leaving. The lack of emotional attachment has been a defense mechanism. My mother stopped talking or having any contact with me after my father was granted custody. I lost the connection with my grandparents and that side of the family after moving out of state. Trusting another person to not leave and trusting what they say was an extremely difficult task for me. I began dating my boyfriend and everything was fine for the first couple of months, but after we both started to get busy, things became difficult. We both worked and were going to school, so there was not much free time for us to spend time together. We also never really got to know each other, we jumped head first into a relationship. During this time, I started having panic attacks again with any physical contact. Anything that was not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Annie Dillard 's An Exploration Into The Way Human Beings At some point in each of our lives we will take a step back and look at the way we are living our lives and wonder if we are living them correctly. This is exactly what annie dilliard does in this essay. Annie Dillard's essay is just an exploration into the way human beings might live. When she sees a weasel, she looks into the life of that weasel. Studying how it lives its life. Then she compares it to humans. Human beings are creatures of caution and fear. We never fully live our lives because we are too caught up with avoiding risks. We think, debate, and calculate each and every move while weasels just simply act. A weasel is a creature of action and instinct. A weasel lives its life the way it was created to, not questioning his motives, simply striking when the time is right. I agree with Dillard's idea that we "might learn something of mindlessness, something of the purity of living in the physical senses and the dignity of living without bias or motive" (Dillard 210). The thing that keeps human beings from living the purest life possible, like the weasel is our minds. To live freely we need to live our lives with less hesitation and fear. Dillard says we should forget our ability of thought and choice all together. But the way we live should not be simply thrown away for a chance to live completely "free of bias or motive" (Dillard 210). We have our morals, conscience, emotions, and values. We have the ability to think and feel at the same time. We can chose how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. I Will Revisit Russon 's Definition Of Memory, And Three... In this paper I will revisit Russon's definition of memory, and three of the aspects that he presents as important in the memory process. I will also argue that our body play an important role for our remembering, as does the objects we interact with. As well as present my position on Russon description of memory demonstrating that Russon's description is indeed relatable to the actual human experience. Russon's definition of memory is not subjected to one main idea, but rather an intertwining of related ideas pertaining to experience. He views memory as, "What we experience as the determinateness of objects that communicates to us what we can and cannot do," (Russon 41). To emphasize, we experience our world through interactions with the world's objects. The contact made with these objects provides an identity for them that later communicates to us about ourselves. Russon present this idea of memory based on two types of memory, implicit and explicit. Implicit memory are memories that we remember in part, while explicit memory are those that we remember completely. An example that Russon gives in another instance that connects to this is the idea of him terminating his lease and having a few weeks remaining is inscribed in everything within his apartment. Each object represents the identity of the future commitment of moving whether pervasively or occasionally. However Russon thinks that for us to remember there are certain aspects that needs to be involve. First is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Ode on a Grecian Urn, Keats states "heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter ." The elements are that tangible and noticeable are important, but it is the unseen or unnoticed elements that hold a greater meaning. The noticeable elements, such as the people, the towns, and the material possessions only last for a short time, so they are sweet while they last, but the unseen elements, such as love, happiness, messages, cultures, and beliefs, are sweeter because they accompany time as it changes from one event to the next, as they do through the urn, delivered by its art to Keats. He additionally states "soft pipes, play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The time continually moves forward, no matter the order that the events are arranged in, in order to bring the past to the present, as it did with the urn in Ode . In my opinion, I find that I support Keats definition on the flow of time. To explain, I shall compare and contrast the two definitions. Keats defines the process of the flow of time as a transport in order for elements from the past, such as emotions and messages, to survive past their current time and last into the future. The flow of time serves as a way for the people of the future, such as Keats, to be reminded of the values and beliefs of the certain civilization or group during that time, so that the people may learn from the past and will not forget what is important to themselves. For Price, however, the flow of time is another form of the process where the Real Time moves from one event to the next, except that the planning of the events extends to the future. With this in mind, I support Keats's definition, as the flow of time serves its own purpose in the continual progression of time, just as the Real Time had its own purpose as well. The urn survives through time to tell us nothing at all, yet the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, Benjy has mental ill; he has the mind of a child and does not understand the connection of things around him. He remembers nothing except the past with his sister, Caddy. Throughout Benjamin section, "fire" is mentioned more than forty times. Benjy is fascinated by the fire: "What is fire to Benjy? It is something he can see as more immediate and concrete than anything with perhaps the exception of Caddy" (Martin 2). Benjamin seems to live mostly in the past before Caddy moved out of the house. • 21. Difference Between Modern And Modern Civilization The most important aspect of society organization is civilization. Civilization in which we live today has been developing over the decades from ancient world through medieval times until the modern world. Without a doubt, some heritage came from the past as customs and traditions. However, more importantly that modern world differ in many ways with both ancient and medieval times. People can see the differences and similarities between these times by reading relevant texts of that particular time. Every single time period had alike understanding of what is good and what is bed, how the God looks like, how people should chose and respect their leader and each other. Different times have alike understandings of family structure, behavior, or humanities. Therefore, organization of society, that forms civilization itself, was varying from ancient world until nowadays, developing constantly. Considering organization of society as an evolving model of civilization, it would include such subunits as religion, law and justice, arts along with literature and music, politics, manners, and ethics. Moreover, looking on world development at each period of time out of three, it becomes clear that every unit like law or religion has been changing persistently. Thus, all of the units were at variance from culture to culture. For example, in one culture religion was over the law, while in other culture it was opposite. People can argue forever on what was the most significant unit that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people see our history and future as a chaotic timeline of events and historical moments that define who we are and who we have been, but that is not always the case. Now I want you to close your eyes. Imagine yourself. Not just yourself, your whole life. Luke does his work in a satisfactory fashion and keeps others in line. This is inspiring to Dana because he shows her how to hide her inner rebellion with a calm, humble approach. Luke eventually is sold for carrying himself like a 'white man'. This shows that slaves' behavior is mostly irrelevant and they are just sold for no reason or put up for any crime possible. They are just portrayed as something to be made a profit. This quote shows the importance of the plot as the way slaves were portrayed and treated. 4.) Our focus text, A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley, showed this statement and taught me its importance. Saroo states that his "experiences have undoubtedly shaped who I am today" (Brierley 217). Like Saroo, I too believe my past and experiences led to the formation of my current self. My past influences how I think, how I speak, and how I deal with emotions and situations. Because of reading A Long Way Home, I learned the incredible journey of Saroo's life and how his past changed him. • 29. Why Does History Matter A question often asked is, "Why does history matter?" History is a subject taught to people all around the world and is essential to the survival of the human race. History matters because it connects things through time, helps present–day people to make better decisions than their predecessors based on past events, and teaches individuals about their heritage. First, history matters because it connects all things throughout the fabric of time. People are like living histories because each has a rich past full of ancestors and events that brought them to the place they are in present day. My grandmother, on my mother's side, was born in former Yugoslavia, present day Serbia, as Adelheid Amschlinger. In 1943 she had to flee her home because of World War II. Yugoslavia had been annexed by the Nazis in 1941 and was introduced to racial laws and persecution of Jews and other political opponents. People started uprising all throughout the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the violence was enough to force my grandmother, her sister, and mother to flee. • 31. Depression And Anxiety And Depression Although anxiety and depression may seem to be separate categories of symptoms, as outlined in the DSM–5 (APA, 2013), and therefore different, many theorists posit that there is an underlying set of factors for both (Clark, Steer & Beck, 1994, Clark & Watson, 1991). Such commonalities between the diagnoses may explain the common comorbidity (Wittchen, Zhao, Kessler, & Eaton, 1994). The high comorbidity between anxiety and mood disorders exacerbates the debate on the distinguish ability of the constructs (Andrews, 1996). One central component of anxiety and depression is the anticipation of negative future outcomes (Miranda, & Mennin, 2007). This has been found across a wide age range, from adolescents to adults (Kagan, MacLeod, & Pote, 2004). However, depression and anxiety differ in that those with higher depression scores tend to also anticipate a low chance of positive future outcomes (MacLeod, Tata, Kentish, & Jacobsen, 1997). Not only do individuals with depression differ from anxious individuals with regards to low anticipation of positive outcomes, they also differ from non depressed individuals in that they are more likely to hold such pessimistic beliefs about the future (Anderson, 1990). This supports the tripartite model (Clark & Watson, 1991) of high anticipation of negative outcomes, and low anticipation of positive outcomes. And there is no true life without presence." While this can be arguably true, it can also be proven wrong. There are different perspectives on what is considered to be the real world and "true living". One must ask, what does it mean to be living in the present? Does it mean to be fully engaged in the current moment or doing what brings happiness? There are different opinions on this idea, one being that it is harmful for one not to live in the present and another being that the use of counterfactual thinking can benefit one's life. In "Alone Together," Sherry Turkle discusses how using technology to escape reality is detrimental to the authenticity of relationships. She stated that in order to have a genuine relationship, there should be more interaction within the real world. In the same manner, Janet Flammang in " The Taste for Civilization: Food, Politics, and Civil Society," explains how the avoidance of face–to–face communication can cause a lack of connection with the real world. However, in "Possible Worlds: Why Do Children Pretend?"Alison Gopnik argues that while referring back to counterfactuals can be harmful, it can also be helpful. Focusing on the past can be beneficial to the present because past experiences can help aid upcoming endeavors. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Zinn explains how historians should see the past and the future in his 1966 essay "Historian as Citizen". He begins by stating that historians cling too tightly to the patterns of the past and are wrong in using them as a guide to the future. He says, "This necessariness of the past tends to infect our thinking about the future, weighing down our disposition to act" (Zinn 44). Zinn writes, "Both history and art should instruct us. The crucial thing is to reveal the relationship between evil and ourselves. This makes it enormously useful to show how Hitler could emerge out of a boy playing in a field" (Zinn 49). Zinn is not saying that history is not important. He is saying that it should not be seen as irrevocable facts and instead viewed as art. We view art as up for interpretation, insightful, and inspiring. Zinn is simply offering that we do the same with history. As previously stated, the past gives us understanding of the roots of evil. Using our history in this way is a tremendous tool, as Zinn demonstrates with the innocent boy to Hitler example. A problem with this argument is that humans are not easily willing to admit to their mistakes. "When the United States defines to Soviet sphere as 'totalitarian' and the West as 'free,' it becomes difficult for Americans to see totalitarian elements in our society, and liberal elements in Soviet society" (Zinn 49). The Comparison Between Miss Brill And Evelyn And Miss Austen The comparison between the protagonist Miss Brill and Evelyn: In the short story "Miss Brill" by Mansfield the protagonist is holding onto the past. Both characters, however, in the end, lose hold of their fantasies and have to face reality. Miss Brill learns of her delusion when she is out at the park listening to the band play music. She imagines herself as being young and desired. The writer Mayfield uses her fur as a symbolism of her beauty and youth. While Miss Brill is sitting at the park, she imagines a life where everyone is happy and joyous. She dreams that everyone is on stage performing. Unfortunately, a young couple comes and sits next to her and degrades her fur and disrespects her. This astonished behavior makes Miss Brill have to face reality. • 65. The Glass Menagerie Comparison Many would never consider comparing the 1945 American classic play The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee William, and the 2015 short film World of Tomorrow by Don Hertzfeldt; however, both rely heavily on a complex memory motif that tries to conceptualize past hurts in order to face the present woes of life. Furthermore, in both the film and the play, the viewer is called to become aware of the distortions that dreams can bring to the format that the story is being narrated. They are each an example of a case of complex love mixed in with past hurts which then morphs into formula for a frustrating uncertain future where one never truly understand what is to come. Calling for the visualization of the past and present simultaneously, each story call ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Flirting with the idea of fragility of life and specifically the future, both have physical representations of these ideas. This is exemplified in two specific places in The Glass Menagerie in reference to Laura. First, the physical representation of the fragility of the future is Laura's glass animals. When Laura crushes the glass unicorn in her hand when she finds out Jim has a serious girlfriend, this represents Laura's future coming crashing down. The reader gets the sense that the young maiden will never find love and that she shall live her future "forever alone." Similarly, in The World of Tomorrow, the physical representation of the fragility of the future is human life itself. With the process of cloning, which consists of impregnating Emily with her cloned self, where then her memories are then transferred to the "new" Emily. Attempting to avoid death through the impregnation process, this all comes crashing down when a meteor comes crashing down onto the earth. In both stories, the attempt to continue on one's legacy into the future is abruptly stopped and quite literally breaks apart. Furthermore, both stories have uniquely incorporated multimedia aspects to further express the themes of the stores. In the script of The Glass Menagerie, stage queues of a screen which depict things such as an image of a "high school hero" (989). In World of Tomorrow, Emily Third opens a ... • 67. How Does Scrooge Change In A Christmas Carol John F. Kennedy once said, "Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future." This means that if you just let the world pass you by then the past is ruined then the future will be the same until you choose to change it. In the play A Christmas Carol By: Charles Dickens, the main character Ebenezer Scrooge was looking in the past at how he had love his sister, and finds out that he can be caring. He just had to try to be nice by changing the way that he spoke and acted. In the beginning Scrooge was a mean and selfish old man and in the end Scrooge became a nice, giving and changed man. Whenever somebody would attempt to talk to Scrooge he would just ignore them or say, "Bah, Humbug!" When he was invited to come to Fred's Christmas party, Scrooge said, "I'll dine alone, thank you." This was a rude comment in response to a nice gesture from Fred, his nephew. "Are they still in the workhouses?" asked Scrooge to the gentleman visitor about the poor people. "You better be here early the next morning," Scrooge said rudely to Bob on his way out. Scrooge has many more impolite and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Oh I loved her," said Scrooge with a smile on his face when he saw Fann, his loving little sister. There was also the Ghost of Christmas Present. With the help of both of them, Scrooge was beginning to become a greater man when he saw how awfully Mr. Bob Cratchit was struggling. The Ghost of Christmas Present showed Scrooge how the other people around him cared for him. At Fred's party and at the Cratchit house, they both gave a toast to Scrooge's good health. • 69. How The Pain And Trauma Of The Holocaust Affected Artie... In Art Spiegelman's graphical novel Maus his demonstration of the Holocaust and its recollection in Maus was very emotional, affecting and the most expressing. The approach that the author has taken construes and magnifies the comical shape of telling history. It portrays Spiegelman dialog between himself and his father about his happenings as holocaust and polish jew survivor. Most of the narrative specifically focuses on Spiegelman 's difficult connection with his father, and the nonappearance of his mother who committed suicide when he was 20.In this essay I will be examining the experience of trauma and memory in Maus. Also I will be showing how the pain and trauma of the Holocaust affected Artie and Vladek 's diasporic memories. Trauma usually describes the association with chronological or combined traumatic proceedings to experiences that happen to others. These occasions are internalized circuitously through images, and stories and other recaps and reminders of their family's occurrences. Spiegelman also investigates and addresses the load and legacy of distressing reminiscence on second–generation survivors. In the narrative Maus discovers and documents this behavior of dual memory. Throughout the story Art talks about the state of affairs in which his father's reminiscences are expressed. The chronological and personal trauma produced by the Holocaust, and by simplifying the reintegration of the following generation to its past. At a particular detail, Art ... • 71. The Importance Of The Past In The Dew Breaker The past is so vital to the characters of Danticat's novel The Dew Breaker because despite most of the trauma the characters have undergone in the past, they must keep living with it and tell their story. One piece of symbolism that is persistent between every chapter are the scars that every character has. Scars have been a central image of this novel both literally and metaphorically. Each character has their unique scars that they must carry with them. The story, in the end, talks about how the scars of the past are the scars of the future. Every scar is a symbol of the characters' painful history that they had to overcome, and now they must carry their past with themselves forever. The scars of the past define precisely the importance of the past for every individual character. The past is a part of all people at all moment. Past scars lie over all of the characters in this novel. A character like Ka's father is once corrupted by partaking in a violent, dictatorial regime. A character like Beatrice is haunted by the horrors that impose on her in the past. The past is inescapable because it is a core part of a person that it largely dictates the reasoning behind their actions in present situations. The past is something which haunts each of the characters in the novel for different reasons. It left a scar on them that they must forever live with. The past haunts ka's father as a dew breaker under the authority of a Haitian Dictator. "My father never liked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. No Name Woman By Maxine Hong Kingston's No Name Woman The final piece finds its place. A perfectly planned future envisioned by many, floats mysteriously ahead, but one look back restrains the head from focusing forward again, for the future is no longer certain when past events cloud the making of new decisions. Human beings often fail to recognize the significance 0f past events and the way they shape their future. This demonstrates the fact that a person's individual past experiences often restrict the process of personal reinvention. Thus, one's history, and specifically their childhood, confirms the current beliefs that affect their self–invention. To begin, the opinions an individual formed as a child often delay or decrease personal growth. From past experiences, people build a foundation of values and morals. On one hand, self invention suggests that a person can separate the development of their character from their past experiences, but on the other hand, a person seldom reinvents themselves because ideas already set in place repress other opportunities. Children remember specific customs such as family or cultural traditions from their parents as they attempt to expand their knowledge. An example of this concept from the short story, No Name Woman, written by Maxine Hong Kingston, illustrates how a woman felt trapped by the customs she learned at a young age, which eventually led to her death. Kingston states, "She had to have dealings with him other than sex. Perhaps he worked an adjoining field, or he sold her the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. How Education Has Changed Over The Years Todays education has changed in many ways over the years. From the behavior of student's caused by different parenting skills, how teachers teach their classes as well as student's ability to use fundamentals, media and technology all play a role in how the world of education has evolved. Robin Lawrence a thirteen year veteran teacher now a curriculum specialist at Bellaire Elementary has a good insight into how the educational system has changed over time. Past and present behavior have differed between the generations. Behavior in the past was much better. In the past children did not have adult problems placed on them. Past parents had better control to allow their children to be young. Past generations of parents did not have a lack of parenting skills. Children were allowed to be carefree, unlike in the present day generations. Today's generations have adult problems caused by poor or lack of parenting and therefore their behavior reflect this. The poor behavior of today's generations has affected their education. The poor behavior of one student affects the whole class. Mrs. Lawrence stated, "Student behavior was much better when I attended school than the behaviors I see in students present day.'' When asking Mrs. Lawrence why she felt that student's behavior was better in the past than in the present she stated that " Students have so many adult burdens placed on then it is very difficult for them to be a child. Poor/ lack of parenting has been a major factor in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Catcher In The Rye Research Paper Since the dawn of man, the past has played some part in one's future. Not all memories and experiences in the past are good, some bring deep depression, others violent thoughts and behavior, whatever the case maybe, the past has potential to alter who a person becomes. A person should not let their actions and experiences in the past shape your future, because if one is focused on their past, they cannot develop their true potential in life. To begin with, there are many examples within life and literature that people have formed sullied roots and reputations by their childhood, and young adult actions, but it is a personal decision to allow or disregard these prior actions to shape the person one may become. Louie Zamperini started out as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Holden Caulfield was not a Louie Zamperini, his experiences within life, many of which were depressing, shaped his entire life. Holden was stuck, focusing on what he missed from his past, namely his little brother, Allie, "He got leukemia and died when we were up in Maine, on July 18, 1946. You'd have liked him. He was two years younger than I was, but he was about fifty times as intelligent" (Salinger 38). Holden was fixated on the death of his beloved little brother, sometimes seeming not to accept that Allie was gone. Being stuck in the past did Holden no good, he failed out of many schools, and was unable to keep a friend for long it seems. His obsession with his past caused him unnecessary doubt and worry, "Every time I'd get to the end of block I'd make believe I was talking to Allie. I'd say to him, "Allie, don't let me disappear. Allie, don't let me disappear. Allie, don't let me disappear. Please Allie"" (Salinger 198). Allie was a big part in Holden's life, but when Holden was unable to get past his brother's death, his future was put at stake. If Holden continued to let his past control his future, he could of very well been in quite a rough spot, possibly the streets, possibly the ground, but he managed to put the past behind himself with ...
