Question 1
1. In what way does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products
2. overall after I had finished researching different my DPS continues the trend that I found in my product
music magazine products most of the layout and research of having the text on the right hand side of the page
picture style I used came from The Fly out of my and having the left dominated by a picture. my pictures were
research as it had the same genre as my posed as well but I did use multiple similar pictures rather then
magazine. my photos were mostly posed similar to having a single one and having them piled up on each over
all the magazines I looked out at in my pre- which was different as it is traditional to have a single large
production they all included the use of a posed image in an article. my pictures were also different as I added
image on both their front page and the double page different effects to each one however NME often uses different
spread. I did however use one image that was not effects on its pictures depending on the genre or tone of the
posed in my contents to page to represent the live artist in the article.
reviews that my magazine would cover and to help
add some variation to the magazine. on my front
page it included substantially more writing then the
magazine I researched other then NME. I decided to
have more information on the front cover as it helps
My contents page was a different to style to all the
give the audience more of an in depth view of
magazines I researched but I did have the actual
what's inside the magazine. additionally my

masthead title is less bold then other magazines this

could be disadvantage as it draws less attention to
live picture in the contents page which is unusual for a
the magazine if the masthead is less noticeable. my

images then simply just posed ones.
artist placed across the centre of the image similar
to magazines I researched keeping focus on the main
article and surrounding it with several other articles
included in the magazine. my front cover makes use
of brighter colours such as blue and white which is
similar to The Fly magazine which uses a range of
colours usual depending on the artist on the front
cover.
3. This is the difference in size and
style of my magazine masthead
compared to others. My
magazine went against to the
traditional very big and bold font
for the masthead and instead is
noticeably much less bold and
smaller. This could be a
disadvantage however for my
magazine as the bigger and
bolder fonts stand out more and
are noticed easier when selling.
My mast also has no other writing
around which I took form The Fly
to not make the page too clogged
in terms of text.
4. My magazine follows the convention of a
posed photo facing out at the audience
which was on all 3 of the magazines
researched. I also used a mid-shot similar
to the fly however it was common if only
one individual is in the picture to have a
close of their head rather then a mid shot
which is usually used for bands.
Another theme my magazine followed
was using the left side mostly for
writing while leaving the right side
more bare. my layout for the articles
was most similar with the Fly with only
one section of text on right and also
having the name of the artist
spreading across the page.
5. I used The Fly
magazine contents
page as a start of
point for my own by
splitting the page in
the similar way
between picture and
text but I also
included an editors
column and some
extra text i felt that
there was too much
on the Clash and
NME contents page
and wanted to keep
things more simple
like they were in The
Fly
6. My magazine goes against the common
convention of having a single picture
dominating a DPS spread article. However I
did continue to use traditional posed
pictures which I found were almost always
used in the magazines I researched. My
use of multiple pictures gives my DPS a
unique look in terms of music magazines.
I also used effects on my pictures which was not
done in the fly or clash but effects were used in
NME. This was done to try to make the picture
more relevant to the band like in NME were
different artists will have different effects
depending on the genre of music.
7. My magazine included
bands that are similar to
the ones that were in the
magazines I researched
this was to suit my Indie/
alternative rock genre. To
display these I also used a
plus symbol which is done
in the fly and NME.
