For whom
Program developers, lecturers and mentors in higher educa-
tion (universities, universities for applied sciences, business
schools) who develop and teach programs for students of di-
verse cultural backgrounds.
After this workshop
You have insight in the differences in teacher - student inter-
action as defined by professor Geert Hofstede.
You can handle the practical application of the dimensions in
six culture clusters as defined by HuibWursten.
You understand the international differences in student be-
havior, study assignments, project assignments, evaluation
systems, dealing with conflicts and loss of face.
You are able to develop a curriculum for a multicultural group
of students that appeals to them all together.
You have insight in a repertoire of actions to teach multicul-
tural groups effectively.
You receive a certificate indicating that you have sufficient
knowledge to be able to handle culture differences as a lec-
turer.
Program
The concept of culture: an anthropological approach.
The cultural dimensions that emerged from the research of
professor Hofstede.
Practical combinations of dimensions in six culture clusters
that make culture differences between countries and regions
transparent and that build on the work of Hofstede.
Implications for the learning process, the teacher-student re-
lationship and learning style preferences.
Your own intercultural perceptions: the danger of the poten-
tial cultural bias.
Curriculum development for multicultural student groups:
goal formulation, composition of learning content, choice of
educational skills, study assignments, exam assignments, as-
sessment and evaluation.
Effective teaching for a multicultural group of students.
Method
The practice of developing and implementing programs for
higher education in an international context is key. In an in-
teractive setting we will alternate between cognitive learning
moments, discussing practical experiences of your trainers
and the participants, and exercises applying the new learn-
ings.
Teaching materials
6D pocket guide with scores in cultural dimensions of over
100 countries, handouts of the presentations, case evalua-
tions and other study materials.

After a career as Managing Director of a professional educa-
tion institute and project manager in international business
and educational projects Carel concentrated on intercultural
management in the public and private sector in the areas of
education, health care, organization development and man-
agement of change.
Tom Fadrhonc
Associate partner of itim International. Tom has worked for
Nike in the US and Europe, in early days as part of the new
Football division in the US, and subsequently asCountryGen-
eral Manager in Europe. He spent these years merging Coun-
try organizations and restructuring and relocating divisions.
Tom now is consulant/trainer for Itim in the area of manage-
ment, sports and education on several continents.

If there is not a sufficient number of participants the seminar
may be cancelled or postponed. Such a possible cancellation
will be announced at least 2 weeks before start of course.The
