2. Ahmedabad IPL Franchise likely to be called
Ahmedabad Titans
Hardik Pandya was named as the captain of the new Ahmedabad IPL
team 2022. Pandya was picked along with Rasheed Khan and Shubman
Gill ahead of the mega IPL 2022 auction event.
The Ahmedabad IPL Team was bought by CVC Capital Partners for Rs
5635 Crores. IPL 2022 edition is likely to be held in India from the last
week of March and will conclude in May.
The Ahmedabad franchise picked up following three players and has Rs
52 crore remaining for the IPL 2022 auction:
Hardik Pandya (Captain) – Rs 15 crore
Rashid Khan – Rs 15 Crore
Shubman Gill – Rs 7 Crore

3. Australia to reopen borders to foreign
tourists on February 21, after almost 2 years
Australia will be reopening its borders for fully vaccinated
international tourists from February 21, 2022 after almost two years,
ending one of the world's strictest and longest travel restrictions
imposed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced on February 7
after a meeting of the national security cabinet that the borders will
reopen to all visa holders on the 21st of February of this year.
He said, "It's almost two years since we took the decision to close the
borders to Australia," adding, "if you're double vaccinated, we look
forward to welcoming you back to Australia."
The nation will now allow foreign tourists on one condition that they
must be fully vaccinated. The states will though continue to set up
their own quarantine rules.

4. Potentially Hazardous asteroid heading
towards Earth, to make a close pass in
March
A giant asteroid, estimated to be four times bigger than
the Eiffel Tower, is heading towards the Earth and is likely
to make a close pass in March.
NASA has defined the asteroid called 138971 (2001 CB21)
as potentially hazardous, as it will come as close as 4.5
million km.
As per scientists, there is no need to worry as the distance
is almost 13 times the average distance between the Earth
and the Moon.
The asteroid, however, will be traveling at a lightning
speed of over 26,800 miles per hour.

5. Single-Dose Sputnik Light Vaccine gets
emergency use approval in India
The Drug Controller General of India granted
emergency use approval to the single-dose Sputnik
Light COVID-19 vaccine in India on February 6, 2022.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed
that this is the 9th COVID-19 vaccine in the country. He
tweeted saying that this will further strengthen the
nation's collective fight against the pandemic.
Sputnik Light is a recombinant human adenovirus
serotype-based vaccine. The recombinant human
adenovirus serotype number 26 is the first component
of the two doses of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine.

6. Lata Mangeshkar passes away at 92, leaves
behind rich musical legacy
India's nightingale, Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6,
2022. Lata Mangeshkar, known as Queen of Melody and
Nightingale of India, had a musical career spanning almost eight
decades.
• She is the recipient of India's highest civilian award- The Bharat
Ratna and also the Dada Saheb Phalke for her contribution to the
Indian music industry.
• Lata Mangeshkar's name has been synonymous with music in
India and her voice managed to transcend all barriers of caste,
religion, creed and culture. She is considered as one of the greatest
and most influential singers in India.
• She was the eldest of five siblings and was born on September 28,
1929 to a Marathi-speaking family in Indore. Her four siblings include
Meena Khadikar, Asha Bhosle, Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath
Mangeshkar.

7. India wins ICC Under 19 World Cup 2022 for
record 5th time
India beat England by four wickets to win the ICC Under 19 World Cup
2022 final on February 5, 2022.
India have won the Under 19 World Cup for record fifth time.
India's Dinesh Bana hit the winning runs, finishing off in a style with a six.
India chased down the target of 189 runs with 14 balls to spare.
The Indian bowlers put up a splendid performance, especially Rajangad
Bawa and Ravi Kumar, who picked up 5 and 4 wickets respectively.
England was bowled out for 189 at 44.5 overs with wickets falling in
quick succession. England U19 captain Tom Prest was bowled for a duck.
The only batsman who held the fort for England was James Rew, who
scored 95 runs off 116 balls.

8. PM Modi inaugurates Statue of Equality,
kickstarts ICRISAT's 50th anniversary
celebrations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 216-feet tall 'Statue of
Equality' commemorating the 11th-century Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya in
Shamshabad, Hyderabad on February 5, 2022.
The statue is made up of a combination of five metals.

the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in
