2. ◦ I chose to analyse this song as it's an old one that used to be my favourite. I like
Daughters music a lot as they lyrics are really deep, meaningful and sang with a lot of
emotion. I thought the video to it could be quite powerful. From what I can infer the
song is about an old lover of Elena's that may have left her but she still misses him,
discussing how hurt she is and broken.
◦ In the title "Youth" it could be to describe her, as when you're younger you are innocent,
childish and most importantly naive, as she is enduring a lot of self-pity she probably
was thinking of herself as quite negative and of little self-worth. In the lyric "And you
caused it" telling someone they "caused" something, putting blame on them is a very
powerful accusation and wrong in fact which would have to be shown within the video.
3. ◦ The singer is female so initially I thought about casting again, usually girls are a lot more
confident and will participate in tasks such as miming in a music video's where as guys are
a lot more reluctant.
◦ Initially, this is probably the song choice I thought would be my final decision. However, I
think the video (although being powerful) would be rather boring.
4. ◦ I went and saw Daughter at Leeds Beckett university. As much as this benefitted my
own pleasure, I thought it would benefit my media coursework also. As Daughter
doesn't tend to have any music videos, I filmed her singing my self.
◦ Usually, music videos have a narrative and tell a story, watching Elena on stage you
could emphasise with her on more of a personal level. She wasn't moving much at all,
and I think her songs have too much meaning to her personally to have a video
attached to it.
