ABSTRACT
In this paper, the solutions of a standard cubic congruence of prime
modulus is discussed. Also, the condition of solvability is established. The
literature of mathematics is silent for finding the solutions of such
congruence. Even no method to solve suc
discussed. Here, solvability condition is obtained. The solvability condition
makes it easy to find the solutions. It saves the time in calculation. This is
the merit of the paper.

INTRODUCTION
The congruence ‫ݔ‬ଷ
≡ ܽ	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ is called a
cubic congruence of prime modulus. The

Case-I: Let us consider the congruence: ‫ݔ‬ଷ
≡ ܽ	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ
with the condition:
‫݌‬ ≡ 2	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ. As per Zukerman, such types of cubic
congruence is always solvable and it has a unique solution
given by ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ܽ

య 	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ.
Even some difficulties arises in finding the solutions. The
difficulties must be removed. It can be done in three
subcases:
Subcase-I: when ܽ = ‫ݎ‬ଷ
. Then the congruence can be
written as: ‫ݔ‬ଷ
≡ ‫ݎ‬ଷ
	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ. As it has a unique solution, it
must be ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ‫	ݎ‬ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ.
Subcase-II: when ܽ ≠ ‫ݎ‬ଷ
but can be easily obtained as:
ܽ + ݇. ‫݌‬ = ‫ݎ‬ଷ
for some fixed small value of k [7], then the
solution is also ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ‫	ݎ‬ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ.
Subcase-III: When subcases I & II fails, then one has to use
the formula for solution:

Case-II: Let us consider the case: ‫݌‬ ≡ 1	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ.
Let us first find the solvability condition of the congruence.
SOLVABILITY CONDITION
As p is of the form ‫݌‬ ≡ 1	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ,	it is of the type
3݇ + 1	݅. ݁. ‫݌‬ = 3݇ + 1, then the only one-third of the
members in the reduced residue system modulo p are
cubic residues [4]. Thus, the every such cubic congruence
of the type	‫ݔ‬ଷ
≡ ܽ	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ, ‫݌‬ ≡ 1	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ,	must have
exactly three solutions.
From above, we have

SOLUTIONS OF THE CONGRUENCE
Consider the said congruence ‫ݔ‬ଷ

condition ‫݌‬ ≡ 1	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ.
If ܽ

య ≡ 1	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ, then it is solvable as seen above and
always has three solutions.
The congruence can also be written as: ‫ݔ‬ଷ
≡ ܽ	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ.
To solve the said congruence, one has to write the non-
zero residues of p such as:
1, 2, 3, ........, p-2, p-1. Then obtain their cubic residues and
select the three which are congruent to ܽ modulo p.
Now consider the congruence ܽ‫ݔ‬ଷ
≡ 1	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ with the
condition ‫݌‬ ≡ 2	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ.
As p is of the form ‫݌‬ ≡ 2	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ,	it is of the type
3݇ + 2	݅. ݁. ‫݌‬ = 3݇ + 2, then every members in the reduced
residue system modulo p is cubic residue [1]. Thus, the
cubic congruence of the type	ܽ‫ݔ‬ଷ
≡ 1	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ, ‫݌‬ ≡
2	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ,	must have a unique solution.

ILLUSTRATIONS
Consider the congruence ‫ݔ‬ଷ

odd prime integer.
Here ܽ = 12, ‫݌‬ = 13 ≡ 1	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ. Then ܽ

Therefore the congruence is solvable. It has three
incongruent solutions.
The reduced residue system of 13
= ሼ1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12ሽ.
It is also seen that

Here, ܽ = 5, ‫݌‬ = 7 ≡ 1	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ	ܽ݊݀	‫5	݋ݏ‬

Therefore, the congruence is not solvable.
Let us consider the congruence as per requirement:

Now non-zero residues of 13 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10,
11, 12.

Here, ܽ = 3, ‫݌‬ = 17 ≡ 2	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ.
Such congruence is solvable and always has unique
solution.
The solution is given by ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ܽ

It is solvable and has unique solution given by

CONCLUSION
Therefore, it is concluded that the congruence
‫ݔ‬ଷ
≡ ܽ	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ has three solutions with the solvability
condition: ܽ

య ≡ 1	ሺ݉‫݌	݀݋‬ሻ when ‫݌‬ ≡ 1	ሺ݉‫3	݀݋‬ሻ.
Also, it is concluded that the congruence ܽ‫ݔ‬ଷ

has three solutions with the solvability condition:

MERIT OF THE PAPER
A special type of cubic congruence is formulated. A very
simple method is discussed for finding solutions of the
said congruence. Formulation is the merit of the paper.

Also, the condition of solvability is established. The literature of mathematics is silent for finding the solutions of such congruence. Even no method to solve suc discussed. Here, solvability condition is obtained. The solvability condition makes it easy to find the solutions. It saves the time in calculation. This is the merit of the paper. KEYWORDS: Fermat’s Little Theorem, Standard Cub Inverse, Solvability condition INTRODUCTION The congruence ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ ܽ ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ is called a cubic congruence of prime modulus. The satisfy the congruence are called its solutions. already formulated some standard cubic composite modulus and got published in international journals [1], [2], ……….[6]. Now the author takes a special type of cubic congruence under consideration for formulation: ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ LITERATURE REWIEW The author has referred many books of Number Theory in which Linear & quadratic congruence are discussed this paper, the author wishes to discuss the standard congruence of prime modulus, which is not literature. As per Zukerman, such types of cubic congruence is always solvable and it has a unique solution given by ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ܽ మ೛షభ య ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. Even some difficulties arises in finding the solutions. The difficulties must be removed. It can be done in three subcases: Subcase-I: when ܽ = ‫ݎ‬ଷ . Then the congruence can be written as: ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ ‫ݎ‬ଷ ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. As it has a unique solution, it must be ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ‫ ݎ‬ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. Subcase-II: when ܽ ≠ ‫ݎ‬ଷ but can be easily obtained as: ܽ + ݇. ‫݌‬ = ‫ݎ‬ଷ for some fixed small value of k [7], then the solution is also ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ‫ ݎ‬ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. Subcase-III: When subcases I & II fails, then one has to use the formula for solution: ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ܽ మ೛షభ య ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. Case-II: Let us consider the case: ‫݌‬ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ. Let us first find the solvability condition of the congruence. SOLVABILITY CONDITION As p is of the form ‫݌‬ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ, it is of the type 3݇ + 1 ݅. ݁. ‫݌‬ = 3݇ + 1, then the only one-third of the members in the reduced residue system modulo p are cubic residues [4]. Thus, the every such cubic congruence of the type ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ ܽ ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ, ‫݌‬ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ, must have exactly three solutions. From above, we have ‫݌‬ − 1 = 3݇ ݅. ݁. ௣ିଵ ଷ = ݇, ݂‫.݇ ݎ݁݃݁ݐ݊݅ ݊݁ݒ݁ ݎ݋‬ Let ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ‫ ݎ‬ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ be a solution of the congruence. Hence, ‫ݎ‬ଷ ≡ ܽ ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ ‫ ݐܫ‬can be written as: ሺ‫ݎ‬ଷ ሻ ೛షభ య ≡ ܽ ೛షభ య ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. Simplifying, one gets: ‫ݎ‬௣ିଵ ≡ ܽ ೛షభ య ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. But using Fermat’s Little Theorem, one must get: ૚ ≡ ࢇ ࢖ష૚ ૜ ሺ࢓࢕ࢊ ࢖ሻ. It is the condition of solvability of the said congruence. SOLUTIONS OF THE CONGRUENCE Consider the said congruence ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ ܽ ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ with the condition ‫݌‬ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ. If ܽ ೛షభ య ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ, then it is solvable as seen above and always has three solutions. The congruence can also be written as: ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ ܽ ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. To solve the said congruence, one has to write the non- zero residues of p such as: 1, 2, 3, ........, p-2, p-1. Then obtain their cubic residues and select the three which are congruent to ܽ modulo p. Now consider the congruence ܽ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ with the condition ‫݌‬ ≡ 2 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ. As p is of the form ‫݌‬ ≡ 2 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ, it is of the type 3݇ + 2 ݅. ݁. ‫݌‬ = 3݇ + 2, then every members in the reduced residue system modulo p is cubic residue [1]. Thus, the cubic congruence of the type ܽ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ, ‫݌‬ ≡ 2 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ, must have a unique solution. We have ‫݌‬ − 2 = 3݇ ݅. ݁. ௣ିଶ ଷ = ݇, ݂‫.݇ ݎ݁݃݁ݐ݊݅ ݀݀݋ ݎ݋‬ If ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ‫ ݑ‬ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ is a solution, then one have ܽ‫ݑ‬ଷ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ And ሺܽ‫ݑ‬ଷ ሻ ೛షమ య ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. Simplifying, one gets: ܽ ೛షమ య . ‫ݑ‬௣ିଶ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ ݅. ݁. ܽ ೛షమ య . ‫ݑ‬௣ିଵ ≡ ‫ ݑ‬ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. But using Fermat’s Little Theorem, one must get: ࢛ ≡ ࢇ ࢖ష૛ ૜ ሺ࢓࢕ࢊ ࢖ሻ. This is the unique solution of the said congruence and the congruence is solvable. ILLUSTRATIONS Consider the congruence ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ 12 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ; 13 ܾeing an odd prime integer. Here ܽ = 12, ‫݌‬ = 13 ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ. Then ܽ ೛షభ య = 12ସ ≡ ሺ−1ሻସሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ ≡ 1ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ. Therefore the congruence is solvable. It has three incongruent solutions. The reduced residue system of 13 = ሼ1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12ሽ. It is also seen that 4ଷ ≡ 12 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ; 10ଷ ≡ 12 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ; 12ଷ ≡ 12 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ. Thus the three solutions are ‫ݔ‬ ≡ 4, 10, 12 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ. Consider the standard cubic congruence ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ 5 ሺ݉‫7 ݀݋‬ሻ. Here, ܽ = 5, ‫݌‬ = 7 ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ ܽ݊݀ ‫5 ݋ݏ‬ ళషభ య = 5ଶ = 25 ≡ 4 ሺ݉‫7 ݀݋‬ሻ. Therefore, the congruence is not solvable. Let us consider the congruence as per requirement: ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ 6 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ. Here, ܽ = 6, ‫݌‬ = 13 ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻܽ݊݀ ‫݋ݏ‬ 6 భయషభ య = 6ସ = 36.36 ≡ ሺ10ሻ. ሺ10ሻ = 100 ≡ 9 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ. Therefore the congruence is not solvable. Let us consider the congruence: 5‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ. Here, ܽ = 5, ‫݌‬ = 13 ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻܽ݊݀ ‫݋ݏ‬ 5 భయషభ య = 5ସ = 25.25 ≡ ሺ−1ሻ. ሺ−1ሻ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ. Hence it is solvable and has exactly three incongruent solutions. As 5.8 = 40 ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ, ℎ݁݊ܿ݁ ܽത = 8. The reduced congruence is, then, ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ ܽത ≡ 8ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ. Now non-zero residues of 13 are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.

Therefore the required solutions are: ‫ݔ‬ ≡ 2, 5, 6 ሺ݉‫31 ݀݋‬ሻ. Let us now consider the congruence 3‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫71 ݀݋‬ሻ. Here, ܽ = 3, ‫݌‬ = 17 ≡ 2 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ. Such congruence is solvable and always has unique solution. The solution is given by ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ܽ ೛షమ య ≡ 3ହ ≡ 5 ሺ݉‫71 ݀݋‬ሻ. For the congruence 2‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫14 ݀݋‬ሻ. Here, ܽ = 2, ‫݌‬ = 41 ≡ 2 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ. It is solvable and has unique solution given by ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ܽ ೛షమ య ≡ 2ଵଷ ≡ 2ଷ 2ଵ଴ ≡ 8.1024 ≡ 8.40 ≡ 33 ሺ݉‫14 ݀݋‬ሻ. Therefore, ‫ݔ‬ ≡ 33 ሺ݉‫14 ݀݋‬ሻ is the required solution. CONCLUSION Therefore, it is concluded that the congruence ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ ܽ ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ has three solutions with the solvability condition: ܽ ೛షభ య ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ when ‫݌‬ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ. Also, it is concluded that the congruence ܽ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ has three solutions with the solvability condition: ܽ ೛షభ య ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ when ‫݌‬ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ. It is also found that the congruence ܽ‫ݔ‬ଷ ≡ 1 ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻ has a unique solution given by ‫ݔ‬ ≡ ܽ ೛షమ య ሺ݉‫݌ ݀݋‬ሻܽ݊݀ ݈݈ܽ ‫ܿݑݏ‬ℎ ܿ‫݈ܾ݁ܽݒ݈݋ݏ ݁ݎܽ ݁ܿ݊݁ݑݎ݃݊݋‬ if ‫݌‬ ≡ 2 ሺ݉‫3 ݀݋‬ሻ. MERIT OF THE PAPER A special type of cubic congruence is formulated. A very simple method is discussed for finding solutions of the said congruence. Formulation is the merit of the paper.
