Battery Fires During Transportation
Eight firefighters ultimately spent seven
hours putting out the fire. They also used
127,300 liters of water – an amount the
department normally uses in a month.
That same volume of water serves an
average home for nearly two years… a
typical fire involving an internal
combustion car can often be quickly put
out with approximately 1,400 liters of
water.

vessel carrying 3,965 vehicles caught fire
and eventually sank. Some of the cargo
was battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), and
though we do not know the origin of the
fire, the EV batteries contributed to the
duration of the fire.
