operator)
Ericsson RF Network Performance and Optimization: main responsibilities are the
optimization of the GSM network in center of the second biggest city in Alger (Oran), Responsible of
optimization in the west part of Algeria which contains more than 389 sites/ 1050cells distributed over three
MSCs, three BSCs, and two Remote BSCs, covering wide area of the country. This responsibility comprises
preparing plan with time schedule to improve the performance of the network
Father more the recent experience of working on Ericsson Networks, using tools such as TCP/TCPU, RNO
(FAS,NCS, MRR, CTR), TEMS classic/TEMS investigation/TEMS pocket/TEMS Transmitter, MapInfo,

January 2006 until July 2006: Ericsson Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Jeddah – KSA (Mobily-
Etihad Etisalat Company) the second major wireless operator in the kingdom)
Ericsson RF Network Performance and Optimization: main responsibilities are the
optimization of the GSM network in center of the second biggest city in the kingdom (Jeddah), which considered
as commercial capital in KSA, holding the biggest two BSC's which are about 66% of the total number of sites
currently in Jeddah city.
My duties include: network performance monitoring/reporting: Network Statistics Report analysis & diagnosis
to achieve target of Drop Call to be <0.4% per BSC. Monitor & troubleshoot problematic cells. Identifying
source of RF problem and provide recommendation to rectify existing problem or other solutions to improve the
network...
Father more the following milestones during this project :
              Check statistics to determine any possible problems. Radio Network Quality Improvement
         o
                             Regular Inconsistency check/removal
                             Worst performing cell list
                             Random Access performance analyzing
                             TCH drop analyzing
                             HO success analyzing
                             Action (Neighbor add/delete, BSIC/BCCH changes, cell parameter changes, DT
                                 request, HW check request, Site visit request for Antenna configuration changes)

              Check BSS parameters, Cell parameter tuning
         o
                          Start with the features that will help to improve the overall network quality like;
                             Locating, BTS/MS power control, DTX, Frequency Hopping, Intra Cell
                             Handover, Assignment to Other Cell features.
                          AMR (adaptive multi rate) feature activating and tuning this feature to get better
                             SQI over the high capacity network where there is high HR rate.
                          Especial parameter tuning to reduce the effect of the uplink jamming stations
                             which is very spread here in KSA especially in the Mosques and banks.
Issue quality reports:
      o
                         Indicate needed Hardware optimization.
                         Indicate needed BSS parameters changes.
                         Indicate additional sites needed for optimization purposes.

          Prepare weekly report, containing drive test analysis with statistics.
      o

          Perform, in collaboration with radio Engineers, routine drive tests within their regions, in order to
      o
          monitor the network quality, Drive test & analyzing
                        Decide the type of antenna configuration change (Tilt, antenna type change,
                            antenna height change). Prove this change with TCP.
                        Deliver the site visit list to make HW changes


          Look daily into the statistics reports, analyze the results, and suggest solutions, like Congestion
      o
          study
                        SDCCH congestion
                        Subscriber Perceived TCH congestion
                        Action (Adding more SDCCH/ new TRUs)

          Suggest additional statistics counters and reports to be generated from the BSC, that to ease the job,
      o
          give more insight in the network and help to detect problems easily.

          In case of critical events, new frequency Plan or something similar.
      o

          Using RNO tools like NCS, performs the following functions:
      o
                      Finding neighboring cell relationships to a new cell (network planning).
                      Finding missing neighboring cell relationships in the active BA-list (network
                          optimization)
                      Finding neighboring cell relationships to be removed from the active BA-list
                          (network optimization)
                      Evaluating neighbouring cell relationships (network supervision)

          Using RNO tools like FAS, performs the following functions:
      o
                        To improve the frequency plan due to quality problems (optimization).
                        To find frequencies in order to add or expand a cell.
                        To supervise the interference levels in a certain area (supervision)
                        To verify improvement after a frequency change (verification).
          Using RNO tools like MRR, performs the following functions:
      o
                        Optimization to Analyze radio characteristics
                            for problem cells
                        Supervision by Supervise radio characteristics in a new area or an area using new
                            features
                        Verification by Make comparisons before
                            and after a change
          Using PMR tools like CTR, performs the following functions:
      o
                        Optimization by Verify indicated problems
                             Dropped calls, Handover failure, Assignment failure
                        See the extent of the problem
                        Analyze the problems
                            - What happens just before the call is dropped?
                            - How do the measurement reports look?
          General issues:
      o
                        Following up of all recommendations

Feb 2005 until January 2006: Ericsson Algiers – Algiers – Alger (Mobilis major wireless
operator)
Ericsson GSM RF Network Optimization Engineer: In charge of the optimization of the GSM
network in center of the capital city Algiers, like submitting master plans for the general optimization in Alger to
offer better service, Father more the following milestones during this project.
              Manage drive tests (i.e. indicate routes, setup routine drive tests, follow up Radio engineers, etc..),
         o
              and if needed, performs critical drive tests, GPRS drive test (four main tests which are: Ping
              Test/Round Trip Time (RTT),GPRS Attach and PDP Context Activation, FTP Throughput, Cell re-
              selection and Inter SGSN Routing Area Update).

              GPRS drive test analysis: with analysis strategy on focusing on:
         o
                   Radio Link quality measured by RLC Throughput
                   PCU,PDCH Capacity
                   Cell Reselection Performance
              Contact with customer care department, not directly but through department coordination section,
         o
              respond for any customer complaints, and present a report as a result.

              Check statistics to determine any possible problems.
         o
              Check BSS parameters, Cell parameter tuning
         o

              GPRS radio network performance: Participated in This GPRS Audit which was performed in the
         o
              ATM GSM network during August 2005 in the city of Algiers. The scope of this is to give as
              detailed review as possible of the GPRS radio network performance with the available data sources
              and also to provide recommendations for the GPRS performances improvement and for the nearby
              introduction of EDGE in the network. In this Audit the data used as a base for the analysis was
              parameter printouts, BSC STS statistics and TEMS Investigation drive test.

              The approach used in this project is based on different problem types that can be expected to show
              up in a GPRS radio network. The used grouping of different problem areas is:
                           • Capacity problems: This includes capacity problems in the BSS, e.g. PDCHs
                                resources available for GPRS, RPP capacity, GSL devices usage etc.
                           • Interference problems: This includes how interference reduces performance for
                                users, i.e. low throughput, difficulties with decoding system information etc.
                           • Mobility problems : This includes how mobility reduces performance for users,
                                mainly by outages in the data transfer and it’s effect on the TCP protocol.
              Prepare weekly report, containing drive test analysis with statistics.
         o
              Perform, once per month, drive test on the other operator's network, and produce a benchmark
         o
              report once per month.
              Perform, in collaboration with radio Engineers, routine drive tests within their regions, in order to
         o
              monitor the network quality, Drive test & analyzing

              Look daily into the statistics reports, analyze the results, and suggest solutions, like Congestion
         o

              In case any modification is to be done in the network, update the sites database in collaboration
         o
              with the department coordination section., in site visit
                            Basic site survey to update the site database

                                Rollout team)

Oct 2001 until Feb 2005: Spacetel Syria – DAMASCUS – SYRIA (major wireless operator)
         Optimization Engineer: In charge of the optimization of the GSM network in the north
         part of Syria (Aleppo, Idlib, Rakka, Hassakeh and Dier Elzzor) which occupying more than
         the half of the total area of Syria (54.4% of the total). Responsibilities including monitoring
         of selected radio statistical counters, analysis of drive tests, modification of radio parameters
         (including frequencies)

             Radio engineer: Analyzing traffic concentrations, planning for new sites, field surveys,
             validation of chosen sites, prescribing needed radio equipment for the sites; Preparing cell
             data and GSM frequency plans. Responsibilities include the following:
in charge of all the frequency plans (covering whole north part of Syria, with a
         -
                population density of 196/km2 ) from the beginning of 2001 until 2005, using a set of
                different planning methods including the Multiple Reuse Pattern method, supported by
                the prediction tool of TEMS Cell Planner TCP and personal developed tools for
                frequency plan.
                in charge of the radio parameters settings (Cell data transcripts) for all the cells in the
         -
                network from the beginning of 2001 until 2005 (Ericsson equipment).
         -      in charge of Nominal Cell Planning form the first phases (Ph1, Ph2 & until now)
                designing and implementing more than 430 GSM radio sites, including dimensioning
                (number of cells per site, number of TRXs per cell), Location areas dimensioning, field
                surveys (selecting the best site positions available), selecting the suitable types of GSM
                antennas, preparing the power budgets for those cells, optimizing the parameters and the
                antennas positions on the sites using the TEMS measurement tool (Ericsson), following
                their activation as a site acceptance on production department according to the plan.
                in charge of the Micro-cellular Design project in which a traffic and coverage
         -
                measurements campaign was completed in the north part of Syria (Aleppo city), and
                suburbs (Population 4.2 millions, 18,000 KM2, traffic around 25 m Erlangs per
                subscriber) beginning on November 2002 and until 2005.
         -      In charge of road coverage project designing and surveying in coordination with
                transmission department team, using real map and TEMS tool, in my Zone there are a
                lot of long road had most optimized coverage plan both GSM and transmission link as a
                share project (getting best GSM coverage with minimal cost.

January 2006 until July 2006: Ericsson Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – Jeddah – KSA (Mobily- Etihad Etisalat Company) the second major wireless operator in the kingdom) Ericsson RF Network Performance and Optimization: main responsibilities are the optimization of the GSM network in center of the second biggest city in the kingdom (Jeddah), which considered as commercial capital in KSA, holding the biggest two BSC's which are about 66% of the total number of sites currently in Jeddah city. My duties include: network performance monitoring/reporting: Network Statistics Report analysis & diagnosis to achieve target of Drop Call to be <0.4% per BSC. Monitor & troubleshoot problematic cells. Identifying source of RF problem and provide recommendation to rectify existing problem or other solutions to improve the network... Father more the following milestones during this project : Check statistics to determine any possible problems. Radio Network Quality Improvement o  Regular Inconsistency check/removal  Worst performing cell list  Random Access performance analyzing  TCH drop analyzing  HO success analyzing  Action (Neighbor add/delete, BSIC/BCCH changes, cell parameter changes, DT request, HW check request, Site visit request for Antenna configuration changes) Check BSS parameters, Cell parameter tuning o  Start with the features that will help to improve the overall network quality like; Locating, BTS/MS power control, DTX, Frequency Hopping, Intra Cell Handover, Assignment to Other Cell features.  AMR (adaptive multi rate) feature activating and tuning this feature to get better SQI over the high capacity network where there is high HR rate.  Especial parameter tuning to reduce the effect of the uplink jamming stations which is very spread here in KSA especially in the Mosques and banks.
  • 3. Issue quality reports: o  Indicate needed Hardware optimization.  Indicate needed BSS parameters changes.  Indicate additional sites needed for optimization purposes. Prepare weekly report, containing drive test analysis with statistics. o Perform, in collaboration with radio Engineers, routine drive tests within their regions, in order to o monitor the network quality, Drive test & analyzing  Decide the type of antenna configuration change (Tilt, antenna type change, antenna height change). Prove this change with TCP.  Deliver the site visit list to make HW changes Look daily into the statistics reports, analyze the results, and suggest solutions, like Congestion o study  SDCCH congestion  Subscriber Perceived TCH congestion  Action (Adding more SDCCH/ new TRUs) Suggest additional statistics counters and reports to be generated from the BSC, that to ease the job, o give more insight in the network and help to detect problems easily. In case of critical events, new frequency Plan or something similar. o Using RNO tools like NCS, performs the following functions: o  Finding neighboring cell relationships to a new cell (network planning).  Finding missing neighboring cell relationships in the active BA-list (network optimization)  Finding neighboring cell relationships to be removed from the active BA-list (network optimization)  Evaluating neighbouring cell relationships (network supervision) Using RNO tools like FAS, performs the following functions: o  To improve the frequency plan due to quality problems (optimization).  To find frequencies in order to add or expand a cell.  To supervise the interference levels in a certain area (supervision)  To verify improvement after a frequency change (verification). Ericsson GSM RF Network Optimization Engineer: In charge of the optimization of the GSM network in center of the capital city Algiers, like submitting master plans for the general optimization in Alger to offer better service, Father more the following milestones during this project. Manage drive tests (i.e. indicate routes, setup routine drive tests, follow up Radio engineers, etc..), o and if needed, performs critical drive tests, GPRS drive test (four main tests which are: Ping Test/Round Trip Time (RTT),GPRS Attach and PDP Context Activation, FTP Throughput, Cell re- selection and Inter SGSN Routing Area Update). GPRS drive test analysis: with analysis strategy on focusing on: o  Radio Link quality measured by RLC Throughput  PCU,PDCH Capacity  Cell Reselection Performance Contact with customer care department, not directly but through department coordination section, o respond for any customer complaints, and present a report as a result. Check statistics to determine any possible problems. o Check BSS parameters, Cell parameter tuning o GPRS radio network performance: Participated in This GPRS Audit which was performed in the o ATM GSM network during August 2005 in the city of Algiers. The scope of this is to give as detailed review as possible of the GPRS radio network performance with the available data sources and also to provide recommendations for the GPRS performances improvement and for the nearby introduction of EDGE in the network. In this Audit the data used as a base for the analysis was parameter printouts, BSC STS statistics and TEMS Investigation drive test. The approach used in this project is based on different problem types that can be expected to show up in a GPRS radio network. The used grouping of different problem areas is: • Capacity problems: This includes capacity problems in the BSS, e.g. PDCHs resources available for GPRS, RPP capacity, GSL devices usage etc. • Interference problems: This includes how interference reduces performance for users, i.e. low throughput, difficulties with decoding system information etc. • Mobility problems : This includes how mobility reduces performance for users, mainly by outages in the data transfer and it’s effect on the TCP protocol. Prepare weekly report, containing drive test analysis with statistics. o Perform, once per month, drive test on the other operator's network, and produce a benchmark o report once per month. Perform, in collaboration with radio Engineers, routine drive tests within their regions, in order to o monitor the network quality, Drive test & analyzing Look daily into the statistics reports, analyze the results, and suggest solutions, like Congestion o study In case any modification is to be done in the network, update the sites database in collaboration o with the department coordination section., in site visit  Basic site survey to update the site database  Take panoramic photo  Propose the antenna configuration change  Issue the trouble ticket (Field Maintenance & Operation team or to Network Rollout team) Oct 2001 until Feb 2005: Spacetel Syria – DAMASCUS – SYRIA (major wireless operator) Optimization Engineer: In charge of the optimization of the GSM network in the north part of Syria (Aleppo, Idlib, Rakka, Hassakeh and Dier Elzzor) which occupying more than the half of the total area of Syria (54.4% of the total). Responsibilities including monitoring of selected radio statistical counters, analysis of drive tests, modification of radio parameters (including frequencies) Radio engineer: Analyzing traffic concentrations, planning for new sites, field surveys, validation of chosen sites, prescribing needed radio equipment for the sites; Preparing cell data and GSM frequency plans.   • 5. in charge of all the frequency plans (covering whole north part of Syria, with a - population density of 196/km2 ) from the beginning of 2001 until 2005, using a set of different planning methods including the Multiple Reuse Pattern method, supported by the prediction tool of TEMS Cell Planner TCP and personal developed tools for frequency plan. in charge of the radio parameters settings (Cell data transcripts) for all the cells in the - network from the beginning of 2001 until 2005 (Ericsson equipment). - in charge of Nominal Cell Planning form the first phases (Ph1, Ph2 & until now) designing and implementing more than 430 GSM radio sites, including dimensioning (number of cells per site, number of TRXs per cell), Location areas dimensioning, field surveys (selecting the best site positions available), selecting the suitable types of GSM antennas, preparing the power budgets for those cells, optimizing the parameters and the antennas positions on the sites using the TEMS measurement tool (Ericsson), following their activation as a site acceptance on production department according to the plan. in charge of the Micro-cellular Design project in which a traffic and coverage - measurements campaign was completed in the north part of Syria (Aleppo city), and suburbs (Population 4.2 millions, 18,000 KM2, traffic around 25 m Erlangs per subscriber) beginning on November 2002 and until 2005. - In charge of road coverage project designing and surveying in coordination with transmission department team, using real map and TEMS tool, in my Zone there are a lot of long road had most optimized coverage plan both GSM and transmission link as a share project (getting best GSM coverage with minimal cost.
