Remember when you use a form of ESTAR,
you are saying: AM IS ARE
Estoy=I am, Estás=you(informal) are
Está=He is, She is, You(formal) are
Estamos=We are, Están=They are, You all
are
3. Uses of Estar:
Use #1:
Health--when asking how someone is
Use Cómo + form of estar
¿Cómo estás?=How are you
Answer: Estoy bien.
4. Uses of Estar:
Use #2:
Emotion: Emotions are mad, sad, happy, etc.
Emotions are very temporary. You can be
mad one minute, and happy the next. This is
why we use Estar with these words.
EX: ¿Cómo estás hoy?
Estoy contento hoy.

Use #3:
Location: Where someone is at any
moment.
¿Dónde está el estudiante?
El estudiante está en el gimnasio.

Use #4: “P”
Present Progressive: Verb tense we will
learn which communicates the idea of “doing
something.”

Conditions: Conditions words are things
like bored, embarrassed, worried, etc.
Example: ¿Cómo está Bob hoy?
Él está cansado hoy. (He is tired
today)

All condition and emotion words must match
the subject in number and gender. Treat
them as adjectives. EX: The girls are
happy. Las chicas están contentas.
