Ex utero mouse embryogenesis from pre-gastrulation to late organogenesis stages was achieved by maintaining precise conditions including oxygen concentration, gentle shaking, and specific media formulations. The embryos were grown to embryonic day 11.5, exhibiting normal development through several key stages. Further development ex utero would require overcoming the lack of a maternal blood supply and placental interface to support the complex nutrient and gas exchange needs of late organogenesis.
