SME1
SM Elearning Project


The project, "SM elearning”:

• Was a Leonardo da Vinci programme for vocational
  training led by GIPFAR (France) and co-coordinated by
  Fons Formació Zona Mediterrània.

• Was developed over the years 2005-2007 and includes
  the participation of training centres and SMEs in
  Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, Ireland, and Norway.
Project Aims


The main project aims were:

•“To offer reference points and tools to clarify new technological
possibilities and their advantages to training centres and industrial
SMEs.”
•“To propose new methods, services and contents adapted to new
working environments.”

The main stakeholders

Project Phases

The main project phases aimed to:

1   Identify local training problems related to the use of ICT in industrial
    SMEs.

2   Study ICT based training setups in relation to the needs of SMEs (using a
    common methodology) and to disseminate the conclusions reached from
    the examples studied and the research related to them.

3   Identify and disseminate strategic recommendations (good practices) for
    the application of ICT based training in European industrial companies.

4   Produce a guide for the application of innovative ICT based training in the
    industrial sector for training centres and their actors.

5   Evaluate the training models studied, the methods, the good practices
    and recommendations among the different groups identified.
4 main Work Packages


The 4 main Work Packages of the project:
1.   WP I : Constitution of workgroup and operation planning
     Main Product: Setting up of bodies and operational research of working plans.
2.   WP II: Research, study and evaluation of good practices
     Main Product: Index of innovative training practices in industrial SMEs.
3.   WP III: Research and study of elearning and ICT based training models
     Main Products:
     i.   Strategic recommendations for the application of ICT in the training
          aimed at industrial SMEs.
     ii. Guide for ICT application within European industrial SME s.
4.   WP IV: Evaluation, products validation, final edition , dissemination and
     valorisation
     Main Product: Evaluation, valorisation and final assessment of materials
     developed.

The 2 main Work Packages of the project which will be of
use in SME2:

Work Package 2


Work Package 2 represented the main bulk of (theoretical)
work in the project – The Index of innovative training
practices in industrial SMEs.

Aim:
To Identify good practice training set-ups based on ICT for training in
industrial SMEs and/or with the workers of industrial SMEs.

Focus:
- The conditions for success
- The conditions to transfer these experiences.

1. Working and methodological hypothesis
To form a starting point to identify advantages &
limitations of ICT training in SMEs. Developed
collaboratively via brainstorming & research

A series of key concepts for investigation. These definitions were
common guidelines and formed the basis for the interviews and tools
later developed

4. Work Analysis
Mainly via evaluation questionnaires (based on the Kirkpatrick
model) & aimed at managers/trainers/students and adapted to each
profile to find the key points in the areas of motivation, the learning
process and results of the training action.

Strategic recommendations on innovative training in
SMEs
To aid understanding of how information and communication
technologies can be used in training, how they improve the
performance of training and at the same time, reduce its cost, and
finally how they help develop diversity and individualisation in
training.

Application guide for the use of ICT in training
To help trainers and training organisations to develop innovative and
ICT-based services to improve quality, accessibility of training
especially for industrial SMEs, taking into account their own
constraints.

From SMELearnig (SME1) towards SME 2.0

  • 2. SM Elearning Project The project, "SM elearning”: • Was a Leonardo da Vinci programme for vocational training led by GIPFAR (France) and co-coordinated by Fons Formació Zona Mediterrània. • Was developed over the years 2005-2007 and includes the participation of training centres and SMEs in Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, Ireland, and Norway.
  • 3. Project Aims The main project aims were: •“To offer reference points and tools to clarify new technological possibilities and their advantages to training centres and industrial SMEs.” •“To propose new methods, services and contents adapted to new working environments.”

  • 5. The main stakeholders • Training centers o Trainers and professionals actors of training • Industrial SMEs o Managers and decision Makers • Training financers, and organizations o Actors of training organization
  • 6. Project Phases The main project phases aimed to: 1 Identify local training problems related to the use of ICT in industrial SMEs. 2 Study ICT based training setups in relation to the needs of SMEs (using a common methodology) and to disseminate the conclusions reached from the examples studied and the research related to them. 3 Identify and disseminate strategic recommendations (good practices) for the application of ICT based training in European industrial companies. 4 Produce a guide for the application of innovative ICT based training in the industrial sector for training centres and their actors. 5 Evaluate the training models studied, the methods, the good practices and recommendations among the different groups identified.
  • 7. 4 main Work Packages The 4 main Work Packages of the project: 1. WP I : Constitution of workgroup and operation planning Main Product: Setting up of bodies and operational research of working plans. 2. WP II: Research, study and evaluation of good practices Main Product: Index of innovative training practices in industrial SMEs. 3. WP III: Research and study of elearning and ICT based training models Main Products: i. Strategic recommendations for the application of ICT in the training aimed at industrial SMEs. ii. Guide for ICT application within European industrial SME s. 4. WP IV: Evaluation, products validation, final edition , dissemination and valorisation Main Product: Evaluation, valorisation and final assessment of materials developed.

Work Packages 2 + 3 The 2 main Work Packages of the project which will be of use in SME2: WP II: Research, study and evaluation of good practices Main Product: Index of innovative training practices in industrial SMEs. WP III: Research and study of elearning and ICT based training models Main Products: i. Strategic recommendations for the application of ICT in the training aimed at industrial SMEs. ii. Guide for ICT application within European industrial SMEs.
  • 9. SM Elearning 3 main Products The 3 main Project Products: • Index of innovative training practices in industrial SMEs. • Strategic recommendations for the application of ICT in the training aimed at industrial SMEs. • Guide for ICT application within European industrial SMEs.
  • 10. Work Package 2 Work Package 2 represented the main bulk of (theoretical) work in the project – The Index of innovative training practices in industrial SMEs. Aim: To Identify good practice training set-ups based on ICT for training in industrial SMEs and/or with the workers of industrial SMEs. Focus: - The conditions for success - The conditions to transfer these experiences.
  • 11. Work Package 2 Steps 1 1. Working and methodological hypothesis To form a starting point to identify advantages & limitations of ICT training in SMEs. Developed collaboratively via brainstorming & research
  • 12. Work Package 2 Step 2 2. Conceptual framework A series of key concepts for investigation. These definitions were common guidelines and formed the basis for the interviews and tools later developed

  • 15. Work Package 2 Step 4 4. Work Analysis Mainly via evaluation questionnaires (based on the Kirkpatrick model) & aimed at managers/trainers/students and adapted to each profile to find the key points in the areas of motivation, the learning process and results of the training action.

  • 18. Work Package 3 Strategic recommendations on innovative training in SMEs To aid understanding of how information and communication technologies can be used in training, how they improve the performance of training and at the same time, reduce its cost, and finally how they help develop diversity and individualisation in training.
  • 19. Work Package 3 Application guide for the use of ICT in training To help trainers and training organisations to develop innovative and ICT-based services to improve quality, accessibility of training especially for industrial SMEs, taking into account their own constraints.
