The Need for Circular Economy Innovation
As the electrification of transportation gains
traction, there is increasing pressure on
manufacturers to commit to sustainability
practices that support a circular economy, and
this is putting the electric vehicle (EV) battery
supply chain under scrutiny.
While the EV revolution is making an important
contribution to climate change mitigation and
sustainability, it must also embrace an entirely
new approach to the battery lifecycle - from
creation to ownership to recycling and returning
to the top of the supply chain.
Battery manufacturers, EV and original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs), fleet
and energy storage system (ESS) operators,
and battery refurbishers and recyclers all
must meet the challenge of ensuring
optimal material sourcing, production and
use of batteries for electric vehicles.

Taking the Challenge Head-on…
To address the carbon emissions challenge
and support the circular economy,
manufacturers must forge a path to
environmental practices while also
supporting financial performance.
To support a circular economy for EV
batteries, lithium-ion recycling must allow
material resources to be reused in a way
that delivers both environmental and
economic benefits.
One of the biggest challenges is knowing when
it's time to recycle batteries and address this
problem with asset identification standards,
where each individual battery cell in a vehicle
can be tracked against life cycle touch points.
This would require improved labeling, unique
serialization, a cloud capture system and
longer-term digital asset monitoring.

Rapid Diagnostics of Battery Degradation & Life-span
The Life Cycle Management Solution for Lithium-ion
Batteries evaluates batteries during or after use in just
minutes and provides an assessment of the
performance degradation and remaining life of each
battery. The service captures battery charge and
discharge data and sends it to the cloud for analysis
and reporting. The entire process is automated and can
be completed with minimal effort.
Data-Driven EV Battery Lifecycle Traceability
The Life Cycle Management solution for Lithium-ion
batteries not only enables advances in speed, but also
in the data sophistication required to identify the
assets needed to track individual batteries throughout
the battery lifecycle, from raw material through
manufacturing to installation, whether in EVs,
construction equipment, or mobility devices.

All rights reserved. 2 The Need for Circular Economy Innovation As the electrification of transportation gains traction, there is increasing pressure on manufacturers to commit to sustainability practices that support a circular economy, and this is putting the electric vehicle (EV) battery supply chain under scrutiny. While the EV revolution is making an important contribution to climate change mitigation and sustainability, it must also embrace an entirely new approach to the battery lifecycle - from creation to ownership to recycling and returning to the top of the supply chain. Battery manufacturers, EV and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), fleet and energy storage system (ESS) operators, and battery refurbishers and recyclers all must meet the challenge of ensuring optimal material sourcing, production and use of batteries for electric vehicles.

All rights reserved. 3 Taking the Challenge Head-on… To address the carbon emissions challenge and support the circular economy, manufacturers must forge a path to environmental practices while also supporting financial performance. To support a circular economy for EV batteries, lithium-ion recycling must allow material resources to be reused in a way that delivers both environmental and economic benefits. One of the biggest challenges is knowing when it's time to recycle batteries and address this problem with asset identification standards, where each individual battery cell in a vehicle can be tracked against life cycle touch points. This would require improved labeling, unique serialization, a cloud capture system and longer-term digital asset monitoring.

The service captures battery charge and discharge data and sends it to the cloud for analysis and reporting. The entire process is automated and can be completed with minimal effort.
