  2. 2. Goals <ul><li>To digitize a portion of the institute archives and make available online to the public. </li></ul><ul><li>To make Rose-Hulman students, faculty, staff, alumni, and general public aware of the research materials available in the Institute Archives. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Items to digitize <ul><li>Yearbooks (from 1891 to the present) </li></ul><ul><li>Oral History interviews (audio files with transcripts) </li></ul><ul><li>16 mm video clips from the 1930s & 1950s </li></ul><ul><li>Registrars records from early 1900s </li></ul><ul><li>Letter Press book </li></ul><ul><li>Images </li></ul><ul><li>Rose Thorn (School newspaper) </li></ul><ul><li>Institute meeting minutes </li></ul><ul><li>Other items of historical significance (e.g. Juliet Peddle Architectural Drawings). </li></ul>

Project beginnings <ul><li>Began in the summer of 2001 by student workers. </li></ul><ul><li>So far we have digitized 15 yearbooks, 25 video clips, 1 oral interview, Juliet Peddle drawings, letter press book, registrar records from late 1800s to early 1900s, some of the early meeting minutes. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Early problems <ul><li>Front end never worked properly. </li></ul><ul><li>Standards were not adhered to. (not a problem with items, but was a problem with metadata. </li></ul><ul><li>Database info was not easily transferable. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Conversion Process <ul><li>Rename all files before transferring. </li></ul><ul><li>Recreate all metadata for each item. Transferring all work over to new system will take at least a year. </li></ul>
  7. 7. What’s been transferred so far? <ul><li>3 Yearbooks </li></ul><ul><li>1 Oral history interview </li></ul><ul><li>Videos from the 1930s </li></ul><ul><li>21 Images for initial WV3 launch </li></ul>
