She further claims to have felt dirty after the incident and feels
angry about herself for letting it happened.
This is further worsened whenever she gets memories or
flashbacks of the event which makes her feel more disgusted.
The client blames the event for her antisocial behavior and
believes it has robbed her a part of her life she can never
recover and she believes she would have turned out slightly
different if it were not for the event.

The client struggles to make sense of the incident
Client has resorted to avoiding reminders of the event

4. The client tries to focus on the present and not the past
Mean making involves the process of trying to understand and
making sense of a situation or incident that occurred.
The client struggles to make sense of the incident she has
accepted that it happened and there is nothing she could have
done.
Currently she tries to avoid reminders of the event by trying to
focus on the present and not dwell on the past.

The client accepted she cannot control everything especially
actions of others

The client accepted the incident was not her fault
The client assigned the blame to the person who abused her
Sense making involves the process where the victim who has
gone through a traumatic experience tries to reconcile current
experience with previous beliefs.
For this case the client accepted that there are things she cannot
control everything especially actions of others and that she was
vulnerable as a child and stood no chance.
In order to properly move on the client came to the realization
that she was not in anyway to blame for the abuse as she was
just a child and has assigned the blame fully on the individual
who abused and took advantage of her.

Benefit finding
The benefits identified by the victim from the trauma includes;

Increase in knowledge of sexual abuse
Improved relationships
Improved parenting skills (Galatzer-Levy et al., 2018)

The following are the benefits that the client found during the
different adjustment periods of the trauma; Increased knowledge
of sexual abuse
Improved parenting skills- the client believes the experience
will make her a better parent who will be close to her kids and
protect them always to ensure such events don’t happen to them
Religious growth- the experience has pulled the patient close to
god and the client believes seeking refuge in the hands of god
enabled her to find that peace and accept what happened.
Improved relationships- the client claims the experience made
her meet and develop new relationships with fellow women who
had gone through such.

Post traumatic growth involves the positive personality change
after experiencing trauma.

In analyzing the post traumatic growth of the client we look at
the following areas. the client appreciates life and recognizes
that the are others who have gone through worse and were still
unlucky not to bounce back
Building relationships the client found a way to build and
strengthen relationship with her family and also successfully
managed to get married. Finding new possibilities in life
Personal strength
Spiritual change- the client became more religious something he
was not before in an attempt to find more inner peace

Reducing anxiety

Regaining balance and stability
Quick recovery from mental health problems (Friedberg &
Malefakis, 2018)
Resilience is crucial as it helps an individual adapt an adversity
and ensures the individual does not suffer from metal health
problems and comes out strong in the end.
It is also significant in protecting individuals from going into
depression or anxiety and enables an individual to get back to
normal or regain stability after having experienced a traumatic
event.
According to several studies an individual better resilience is
able to recover quickly or adapt better to an adversity as
compare to those individuals who lack or have less

Case study involves a client who experienced CSA
Resilience enables one to bounce back from a tragic event
The client demonstrates resilience via mean making sense
making and finding benefit from the experience
In concluding this presentation resilience is the ability of an
individual who has experienced trauma to bounce back from the
event. A case of a client who suffered from childhood sexual
abuse (CSA) was considered for this study. The client
demonstrated resilience by being able to find benefit in from the
experience. Resilience is beneficial and plays a crucial role in

7. protecting individuals against some mental health problems and
helps in individuals gaining quick recovery from trauma.
