Performance Objective: After completion of this module the trainee will be able to
understand the special qualities and attitudes to be developed by
a Beautician.
Content:
Personality development of a Beautician and it’s importance
• Safeguarding personal hygiene
• Control body odors (e.g. sweat)
• The importance of wearing clean clothes
• Maintenance of oral hygiene
• Care of hair to suit the face
• Skin care and applying suitable makeup
• Cleanliness of hands, nails and feet.
• Selection of suitable clothing for the saloon
• Selection of fitting and comfortable shoes
• Adoption of correct postures when walking, sitting, standing
and bending
• The importance of developing self–control and ability to create
friendly work atmosphere.

Salon working area
• It should be ensured that work area has adequate lighting
and ventilation.
• Routine cleaning and disinfecting of work areas, counters,
basins, chairs, couches and floor should be done.
• Necessary beauty care equipment should be cleaned
/sterilized before using it on another client.
• All linen items should be routinely washed and ironed and
stored.
• Waste should be disposed to minimize potential injury to
staff and clients in an environmentally friendly manner

Pantry cupboards and utensils should be kept clean and in
hygienic Conditions.
Wash rooms should be kept cleaned, disinfected and in
hygienic condition for staff and clients.

electricity supply, lighting, ventilation / air

• Entrepreneurship
• Elements of Accounting and Cost Control
• Purchase and store management
• Marketing and sales management of beauty care services and
products
• Personnel Management
• Government business regulations
• Occupational health and safety hygiene
• Public relations and communication
Prerequisites: All above
Tools, Equipment & Teaching Learning Materials Required:
Class room teaching facilities, Reference books, Beauty salon equipment and materials to
carryout demonstrations

Special Comments:
The knowledge related to this module should be given at the training centre. The
trainee should be referred to a salon for practical training
Competencies referred here have to be developed by on the job training. Trainee’s
guide has not been prepared for this module.

Theory sessions should be supplemented with demonstration sessions where applicable. M-02 Competency Area : Analyse Skin Module Title : Analyse Skin Performance Objective: After completion of this module the trainee will be able to analyse skin of clients according to the relevant standards mentioned below. Tasks to be performed: Task No. Task Standards K1 Clean and maintain Salon public area • The entrance and exit of the salon should be facilitated for easy access of clients. • The entrance and seating area of the salon should be cleaned and maintained in attractive manner. • The information on services provided by saloon (eg: brochures, leaflets) should be placed near the reception counter. • The reception counter should be kept clean and tidy. • The important equipment and material (e.g.: computer, credit card machine, receipts books etc.) should be placed on the reception counter as per the instructions given. • Product sales counter should be arranged in attractive manner

Beautician – Curriculum Outline Curriculum Development Division - UNIVOTEC 31 K2 Clean and maintain Salon working area • It should be ensured that work area has adequate lighting and ventilation. • Routine cleaning and disinfecting of work areas, counters, basins, chairs, couches and floor should be done. • Necessary beauty care equipment should be cleaned /sterilized before using it on another client. • All linen items should be routinely washed and ironed and stored. • Waste should be disposed to minimize potential injury to staff and clients in an environmentally friendly manner Task No. Task Standards K3 Clean and maintain Stock room It should be ensured that all material in the stock room kept clean, tidy and in proper order(First in-First out method) All materials should be arranged on racks/cupboards systematically for easy identification and retrieval. K4 Clean and maintain Pantry and wash rooms Pantry cupboards and utensils should be kept clean and in hygienic Conditions. Wash rooms should be kept cleaned, disinfected and in hygienic condition for staff and clients. The client should be consulted for any allergies for skin care products, and advised on the best suited product to fulfill the need. The client should be encouraged to continue with treatment suggested or to purchase of relevant skin care products. M2 Make sales and keep records Client should be advised & encouraged to purchase retail products available in the beauty salon considering the requirement of the client. Sales of the retail products should be promoted by observing and addressing the buying behavior and the need of the client. The transaction should be completed by accepting payments according to the organizational procedure. Daily sales records of retail products should be maintained according to organizational procedure. The records of the purchases, sales and stocks of retail products should be maintained as per the company procedure. Task No. Task Standards M3 Handle complaints Complaints regarding the services or products should be handled promptly and effectively. Practical 60 hrs. Special Comments: The knowledge related to this module should be given at the training centre. The trainee should be referred to a salon for practical training Competencies referred here have to be developed by on the job training. Trainee’s guide has not been prepared for this module.
