We cannot directly experience the true nature of matter as our senses only provide an interpretation of the external world formed within our brains. Everything we perceive, including sights, sounds, textures and smells, are essentially electric signals processed in a small region of the brain, not direct interactions with external objects and events. While people currently believe they experience an external reality, scientists agree that our experience of the world as matter is actually an illusion formed internally.
