SAT preparation through The Learning Lamp will sharpen test taking-skills by reviewing
techniques, concepts and question types that apply to the SAT exam. The emphasis of this
structured program is on strategies such as analyzing difficult vocabulary, scanning passages for
content, applying mathematical logic and reviewing important concepts in higher level math.
Please note that this prep course is not designed to teach the content of the test (reading,
writing and math skills.) Scholarships are available for students demonstrating financial need.
Please call (814) 262-0732.
Our SAT Prep Course is taught by experienced, certified teachers. The
course is divided into two sections: Math and Reading/Writing/ Essay.
Math: (4 weeks, 2 hours per class): The math section will include mathematical logic and reviewing important
concepts in Algebra, Algebra II and Geometry. Understanding the types of questions, effective methods of
"attacking" problems, time management and guessing strategies are also covered.
Critical Reading/Writing and Essay Prep: (4 weeks, 2 hours per class): The Reading/Writing
section will cover content from both the Critical Reading and the Writing sections of the SAT. Reading topics
include paragraph-length reading (both short and long passages) and sentence completions. Writing skills for the
multiple choice section of the Writing test focus on error identification, and sentence and paragraph
improvement. Understanding the types of questions, effective time management and guessing strategies are also
covered. The Essay component of this prep course will include an initial sample test to assess student skill
levels. Students will learn what the graders are looking for in a response, how to write an effective first draft,
and how to make the most of set time limits.
