The Great Gatsby Creative Writing
"Cause I got a blank space baby! And I'll write your name!" Beckett finished off the last line of
Taylor Swift's new smash hit. "Let's stop at this station up here." "Alright," I replied. I pulled my
boots back on and wrapped my scarf around my neck. Beckett merged onto exit ramp and took a
right into a rest stop. I hopped out and stretched a little, reaching my arms above my head. "I'm
going to fill up, get me an iced tea," he said, heading over to the pump. Noticing my lack of
response he turned to me with his most charming and dazzling smile and said "Please." Swoon.
Huffing, I grabbed my wallet and trudged into the store. The door jingled as I entered and the old
man behind the counter flashed me a toothy grin and smoothed his red uniform ... Show more

Nothing. I quickly walked around the side of the building, but found no one except a girl sitting on a
crate, smoking. She lifted her head and glared at me before blowing out some smoke. I wheeled
around just as fast and let her return to her cigarette. "Okay, that was not Beckett," I muttered to
myself and went around the other side of the gas station. I pulled out my phone and dialed Beckett's
number. It didn't even ring once before going to voicemail. Now I was getting a little more worried.
Beckett always had his phone on and ready. After fighting a little with a pine tree, I got around to
the back of the building. No truck, no Beckett. I tried calling again but was met with the same
monotone voice telling me to leave a message after the tone. I took a deep breath and regained my
calm demeanor. I took the long way back around to the front this time and walked on the road,
instead of fighting with the pine tree again. If Beckett wasn't at the gas station, where was

Collapse Essay
Prior to the collapse, Dew and I had joined Bally's gym downtown at 15th and Market. Our goal
was to stay healthy and spiritual. Our minds were focused on the after hustling aspect of life and
more into accepting Islam once we got finished in the game. I would bring a Yusuf Ali Quran with
me to the gym and sit in the jacuzzi and sauna and just read some small chapters until I was ready to
leave. My mind was at peace. I met one Muslim brother who used to sell perfumes who used to drop
science on me in the locker room. A bald–headed young black lifeguard used to buss it up with me
while I was in the pool sometimes reading the Quran. Every day is a hustle and another chance to
better yourself.
I'd go down South Philly to check my man Pone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I complained to Pone. Pone already told me the deal before, but I didn't listen. He said to me to only
come out there when he was there. He tried to get my stuff back to no avail. I acknowledged my
mistake and moved on. If I ever came down there to hustle, I never came without Pone again.
Back up North Philly was a whole different story. The grind was much more relaxed although you
had to be on your P's and Q's. North Philly is a gold mine for all types of hustles and grinds. I began
working a certain corner with Dee and some of his peoples. As mentioned before, that most of us
agreed that this hustling stuff was temporary and that Islam would be our savior once we got this
money and stepped out of the game. You wouldn't see anyone from the corner attracting attention by
buying fancy cars, clothes, or bling. If you came upon us, you only would see normal guys looking
like they were conversing. As long as there weren't any problems, then the neighbors were cool and
kept quiet about things. You had to be respectful, courteous, and charitable to keep the love going.
They only wanted peace on the block. They would salute you, embrace you, and even help you out.
They would warn you from the cops, stick up boys, or even from their own friends. Most people on
that block weren't addicts, so you just had to maintain a respectful and mutual relationship with
them.
I played the corner at times depending on the day, but never stood idle. Keep your back to the

Dog Mabel Research Paper
As the evening fell, the dark blue night rose up across the sky. I laid under the stars in my back yard,
as I do every night with my dog Mabel. Mabel was approaching her old ages but she was a great
listener. Usually I tell her about my day or fairy tales, tonight I told her about my mom. My mother
passed away in a car accident when I was only a baby, she was the most loving person I knew and I
miss her everyday, and sometimes it helps to talk about her. As I lay talking curled up next to mabel
I could feel my eyes getting heavier and heavier as the warm summer breeze brushed past my face.
And that was the last thing I remember, now i'm standing on the corner of Shelmet and Maine. I
recognize the area, it's not too far from my house, but a few of the buildings are different now. I
walk across the street to a old–fashioned diner and as I approach the door the cashier yells "no dogs
aloud!" I look down and Mabel is standing right beside me. I leave the diner and along ... Show

I ran across the street and almost got hit by a two bicyclist, I pick up the newspaper lying on the
bench dated May 18, 2007. As I flip through the paper I see the obituary of my mother, I knew this
wasn't just a coincidence, this was my chance. I sat down on the same section of the sidewalk I sat
before, although now it has many cracks. I repeated under my breath "May 16 2007" several times
until finally I was placed on the same street corner again. I'm almost too positive it's the right date
so I run down the street and take a left then I take two rights until I approach my driveway. As i'm
just about to open the backdoor with the key that's kept in the seat cushion near the door I realize
my parents don't know me, and I can't just walk in. I head behind the garage to strategize, I came up
with the plan that i'll knock on the door and talk to them about a lost dog for a while, hoping to push
back their schedule enough to prevent my mom from the

Cyndi Lauper: A Short Story
"Pick a hand."
"Which hand?"
"Any hand, just pick one."
"Hmmm...that one!", I say, pointing a finger at my moms right arm.
"Surprise!", she says, pulling out a new Barbie doll, completely brand new in the box. It's not often I
get new toys. Her hair is blonde and she's wearing a pink swimsuit top with matching shorts, a pink
snorkel and flippers are next to her. I can't stop smiling. She has big feet like me.
"Thank you Thank you!" I exclaim, my smile wide as I scrunch my nose and jump up and down.
My mom and I live in a castle, but we never have any money. It's called Rose Garden Grove Park,
and it has lots of rooms and a lot of other people live here too. The castle has a Lord, I've only seen
him once when we moved in, but mom is always talking and yelling on the phone with him, and
about him. She says he doesn't like us, he's mean, just because mom plays her music loud
sometimes. I don't know why he's mad though, they're good songs, my favorite song is by Cyndi
Lauper, I don't remember the name though. I dance to it while mom cleans. I eat a cheerio out of my
bowl of cereal, stand up and spin and nod my head and dance, then grab another cheerio.

A Short Story : A Story?
It was 9:00 PM, and I was by myself. The house was dark and looming, as I stayed in my room
reading. An eerie creaking sound of the house settling filled the air, but was settling the explanation?
I crept slowly into the hall, step by step, and made my way downstairs. When I got to the stairs I
heard a crash from below. I thought, "Is there an intruder in my house?"
I was home alone, but was I by myself? This was the first time I had to deal with this kind of a
situation.
It was like any other normal day, except for one thing.
"Your sister has a basketball game today. We're leaving in thirty minutes," said my mom.
I thought about that for a moment then I asked, "Mom, could I stay home?" After all, I was kind of
tired and had seen seven other of my sister's basketball games. "Ok," she said with a sigh, "but have
a phone around you at all times so you can call us if you need anything. Also, don't open the door
for people you don't know," my mom said with a concerned look on her face. "I'll be fine, mom.
After all, it's only for two hours," I said convincingly. Thirty minutes later, as my parents were
pulling out of the driveway, and I waved bye to them as I jumped up and down. "Bye!" I hollered as
they left. "See you soon!" As soon as they left, I ran upstairs to my room and jumped on my bed
because no one was there to stop me. After about ten minutes, I got a bit bored. So I decided to help
myself to some chocolate because no one was there to stop

"Okay, so to warm up tumbling, I'll have you guys touch in this order..." my coach Brooke told us
but I had already stopped listening.
I couldn't hear over the pounding of the blood rushing through my head. My teammates and I are
about to warm–up our tumbling passes and I just got mine last week. Now, I started to overthink.
"What if I fall on my head and die? What if I chicken out and land flat on my back? I would be
utterly humiliated... and in pain but mainly humiliated."
"Lauren, it's your turn to warm up," Brooke said snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Okay Lauren, you can do this. Just don't die and you'll be fine," I said to myself hoping that I was
right. The music stopped and I sauntered onto the floor. It was navy blue and not as malleable as
ours. My heart beat started beating heavier and more intense. BA BUMP BA BUMP BA BUMP. I
reached the corner of the floor and wiped my hands on my legs. I looked at my coach and she gave
me a reassuring smile. I took a deep breath and started to sprint across the floor. I felt the satisfying
thud of my hands making contact with the floor and my feet landing back on the floor. All I had to
do know was wait for the next routine to finish so I could do it again.
The routine finished and I strode back onto the floor but this time with more confidence. I wanted to
get it over with swiftly so I started running a second after I had reached the corner. This time, my
hands weren't the only thing that touched the ground. My

I amble my way towards the double–glazed doors, as the saffron–yellow sun glowed like a

doors, I grab the handle swinging the door open and walking in casually. I mean, I am the founder of
this businesses son, so things should run smoothly. Entering the main lobby, I make my way up to

Charlie scoffed the first time she found a note tucked into the outer pocket of her pack reminding

Baby No Eyes By Patricia Grace
Baby No–Eyes: Kura Some of us go through tough experiences as children. In Patricia Grace's
novel Baby No–Eyes under the chapter of Kura, the reader gets to see how Gran Kura's traumatic
experience as a child is finally revealed after being held secret for sixty years. Throughout Kura, the
reader is able to witness the many challenges that the characters face. These challenges range from
the cultural situation in which the children live to the personal challenges that Kura herself faces
when given the responsibility of taking care of her little cousin, Riripeti. The school that Kura,
Riripeti, and the rest of the children attend is one that has been colonized by the English. At this
school, the children's native language of Maori, is banned on all school grounds; English, being the
only acceptable language to be spoken. The Maori children are forced to forget their native Maori
identity, learn and accept their given English names and ultimately assimilate under the current
English ruling. Throughout several excerpts of the chapter, the reader is able to see clearly
expressed distaste for the Maori language. An example of this would be such as when on page 157
when a grandfather is speaking to a child named Waana in the Maori language. The headmaster of
the school is quoted with saying, "I'd like to remind you Mr.Williams that I don't allow any of that
language in my school or in these school grounds . . . Off you go and take your language with you.

Personal Narrative : Soccer : The Love Of My Life
Soccer has been the love of my life since I was four years old. I cherished everything about it from
the sweet smell of the grass to the most exhilarating feeling of scoring a goal. As a person who
thinks too much, soccer is an escape hatch out of a cluttered world. Everything about the beautiful
game flows so smoothly, from the first whistle to the last, it is like an well composed symphony
where each touch is a note. It motivated me to do better in everything I did. As I continued to play
and move through the ranks of soccer I began to enjoy it more with every game I played, my love of
the game took me as far as the boundaries of the Midwest, but never further until 2014. On February
14th I experienced a defining moment in my life, playing in the Mayor's Cup in Las Vegas. We left
on a Thursday, as I stepped off the plane and I felt the exhausting heat of Las Vegas. As someone
who has played in Wisconsin their whole life, it was a bit of an understatement to say the climate
was different. The tournament was set up so there was one game a day for week. As the days slipped
by every win felt like a blur, another step to our ultimate goal, the championship. Before we knew it,
it was Friday and we had reached the semi–final. Five minutes before the game and our coach, Tony,
gestured for us to make a huddle. Tony had never been the greatest at pep talks, and to no surprise
he stuck to his track record. He started off by telling us we were a great team, however we were

Vacation In Hawaii
Once upon a time, a family of five, a mother, father, and triplets, decided to take a vacation by going

Timmy, and Timmy. Everyone was very excited to go ride waves, eat food, and sleep a lot. The
flight attendant has just called everyone to board the plane. The three boys and their parents rushed
to the front of the line so they could get the best seats. Two hours before landing, the clouds became
grey and it started to rain lightly. " Attention passengers, we will be landing in Brooklyn, New York

parents looked at one another in disappointment. The boys noticed lights started flickering down the
hallway. What the three boys didn't know was that the hotel was haunted because a woman had died
ten years ago from a seizure. Meanwhile, all three of them jumped into the pool which hasn't been

why. In your mind, fog is draped over the trenches like a calming peace over the hellish
battleground. Bullets will soon fly across rusted barbed wired fences. You can almost smell blood,
so fresh you could almost taste the bitter metal used to destroy the body. This is war– not the child 's
backyard play . World War I was fought decades ago, but today we have a new war on our hands.
The battle now is not fought with trenches, guns, or metal bullets, but instead with words like
metal– used to destroy humanity. Leaders are the key to winning the war. They must be trained up;
you suddenly snap back and you are now standing in the insufficient room. Many say it possesses
the capability to embolden leaders, so you have come in the hopes of learning how to sustain the
war.
Now that you have walked through the threshhold you doubt the various rumors. The room is
average; nothing appears to be extraordinary. But you know survival starts with an appreciation for
the small things in life. To the left of the entrance there is a frame that is old and worn. You can
almost feel the gritty texture of the beige chipped paint. The glass is untarnished, except for the risen
inscription. The words are bold in meaning as well as in their font. They are written in such

Functional Symbols Of George Janine At Sunrise Senior Living
A diverse family can be defined in many ways. However, after observing some of the individuals at
Sunrise Senior LIving, this can be defined as all the members of a household under one roof. While
residents had their own rooms, and shared if married, everyone was technically under the same roof.
The seniors came together for meal–times, spent quality times in the common areas to socialize, and
enjoyed the extracurricular activities that were planned on a weekly basis, along with meeting many
volunteers to light up their day. George Herbert Mead was trusted with expressing the foundations
of the symbolic interaction (SI) theory. It is used to understand how families create meaning. The
premise of this came from his curiosity to understand the way humans create, react to, and redefine
the shared, symbolic meanings in their social environment. As the text mentions, Mead agreed that
words and nonverbal behaviors are the primary symbols to which humans assign meaning. In
addition to this idea, he also explained on the idea that symbolic meanings are heavily influenced by
perceptions, including people's own perceptions and other people's perceptions of them and the
social structure around them. This was particularly for Ms. Janine at Sunrise Senior Living. She was
a social butterfly who seemed to know everything that was going on around the home and most
things about the health conditions some residents were living with. Anytime she sat in the kitchen to
unwind, more

Learning About Environmental Geometry: An Associative Model
Noam Y. Miller and Sara J. Shettleworth
University of Toronto
K. Cheng (1986) suggested that learning the geometry of enclosing surfaces takes place in a
geometric module blind to other spatial information. Failures to find blocking or overshadowing of
geometry learning by features near a goal seem consistent with this view. The authors present an
operant model in which learning spatial features competes with geometry learning, as in the
Rescorla–Wagner model. Relative total ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The signature phenomena of cue competition in conditioning are overshadowing and blocking. In
overshadowing (Pavlov, 1927), when two cues are redundant predictors of the same outcome, less is
learned about either than when it is the sole predictor of the outcome. In blocking (Kamin, 1969),
training with a single cue reduces (blocks) learning about a second, redundant cue added later.
Several studies have looked for blocking or overshadowing of geometric information by features
(for a review, see Cheng & Newcombe, 2005). Most studies have concluded that a predictive feature
near a goal does not block learning about the shape of an enclosure (e.g., Hayward, Good, & Pearce,
2004; Pearce et al., 2001; Wall et al., 2004). Moreover, in contrast with the expected competition
between cues, geometry is sometimes learned better in the presence than in the absence of
informative features. Pearce et al. (2001), for example, found that a beacon improved learning about
the geometry of a triangular water tank. Other researchers have come across hints of this same
phenomenon (e.g., Hayward et al., 2004; Hayward, McGregor, Good, & Pearce, 2003). Using a
geometrically unambiguous kite–shaped water tank, Graham, Good, McGregor, and Pearce (2006)
demonstrated in rats substantial potentiation of geometry learning by a feature. Kelly and Spetch
(2004a, 2004b) also found clear evidence of potentiation of geometry learning by a feature in an
operant task in which people and pigeons were

Creative Writing: Has This Allen Ever Been Here?
So instead of asking Eren who Allen was I asked a different question. "Has this Allen ever been
here?" I asked him making sure to choose my words carefully so that I could bypass my Mistress's
command. Eren nodded slowly. "He was he when you weren't." He said almost cryptically. I
frowned at what Eren had said because of a few things that factored into it. One the location where
we currently were couldn't be accessed by humans so whoever Allen was, he definitely wasn't a
human. Secondly it took a lot of spiritual energy to come here even if Mistress Aria invited the
person here. So Allen must be someone powerful at least. I looked at Eren. "What does he look like

Eren had taken the news about Allen surprisingly well but then again he had already met the bastard.
Eren frowned but didn't push the issue as he left the room. A few moments later however he ran
back into the room frantic about something. "Luka, the cocoon is making weird noises and I saw
odd cracks!" He informed me. I frowned as I glanced at the calendar that was stuck to the wall. It
has been two weeks so her hibernation phase should be done. I thought. I walked with Eren into the
cleansing room to see that the cocoon was pulsating a little bit and starting to crack all over. I took a
step back and pulled Eren back a bit by his arm as the cocoon suddenly broke open clear liquid
glowing liquid spilling out. A moment later my Mistress raised her head and looked at us. I noticed
that she had a very dazed expression on her face. She must be hungry. I thought. She climbed out
and stumbled slightly holding onto a nearby wall to steady herself. Her eyes looked around slowly
before she literally pounced on Eren. He let out a shocked scream as they tumbled to the floor. I let
out a sigh as she straddled him and wrapped her arms around his neck. Eren looked back at me as he
gently tried to pry Aria off of him. "What does she want?!" He asked

I undressed and dressed inside the shower to have some privacy. I even tried to have

My first few nights being in the cell called J–1 was scary. There were three other

My First Car Crash
Everybody remembers getting their very first car and discovering the limits they could push with
their car. Well, my first car was not anything special, just a bright red 2008 Chevy Aveo5
Hatchback, which had a little less than eighty–thousand miles on it and was a manual transmission.
This type of vehicle was far from being considered fast, but at least it was enjoyable to drive due to
it being a stick shift. One of the worst habits an experienced driver can acquire is speeding, which I
used to experiment to see the maximum speed I could reach with my small red car. Consequently,
this mindset would all change after I endured the very first car crash of my life in April, 2016.

same time, hearing and seeing the airbag go off, but also the sound of screeching tortured metal
crumpling as it hit the tree is what stains my mind. The airbag obscured my vision and the plume of
smoke that followed right after. The smell of used gunpowder is what penetrated the air as I begin to
get out of the shock of what just happened. At first, I thought the car was going to set on fire, so I
quickly kicked open the crumpled door to get out. Once I was out, I was struggling to get out of the
thorn bushes that surrounded the perimeter of the vehicle, which completely shredded both of my
legs in the process. I was more injured by the thorn bushes, than the actual crashed, which I found
humorous. After looking at the mangled metal that used to be my first car, I started to realize how
lucky I was. I was personally more angered about my stupidity than anything else, yelling
obscenities as a few people started to come closer to see if I was okay and inspect the

Lurking Behind The Shadows Of Ghosts
Lurking in the Shadows
When I was younger, I never really believed in ghosts, but this experience changed my life. A long
time ago, around the age of thirteen, I was in a lot of things that caused me to be labeled as a
troublemaker. It was so bad that one time (ironically right before winter break) my parents thought it
would be the best to come up with the ultimate punishment for me. They decided to leave me at
home for a week while they were off on an extravagant vacation to the mountains. The first night
before they left, they gave me a list of chores to do. Now, in the back on my mind, I was thinking
how such a tuff guy like myself would not be doing any chores because chores were for the weak
and spineless. Once they walked out the door, I began to make at least an attempt to actually read
the list that was given to me, but after reading over the list, which was rather long, I balled it up and
threw it right in the trash, not thinking about any of the consequences. I darted upstairs and hopped
straight on my Xbox where I remained for a few hours until things started to get a little strange in
the middle of the night. It's about one o'clock in the morning and I'm having a blast playing on my
Xbox, not regretting what I did with the chore list my parents thought was ok to give me. In the past
when I use to play with my Xbox, I not only listen to the game very closely, but I also got a huge

do you feel, Sweetheart?"
Charlie looked around the room as she struggled to a sitting position. "Where are we?"
"We're at Grandpa's house. Maybe you should lie back down and I'll send Miles or Bass to town to
get him." Rachel said looking at her daughter with concern.
Charlie looked at her mother in horror before shaking her head vehemently, pushing her away. "No.
You're doing this to me again!" she lashed out, pulling herself to a standing position as she staggered

"She said that she was married to General Sebastian Monroe, lived in Philadelphia and had two
children," Gene answered, as he leaned forward a bit to refill his glass.
"What did we do?" Rachel asked quietly. "When she woke, she said that she remembered what we
did to her."
Gene nodded before taking another swig. "There was a party and for some reason Jason Neville
attacked Danny. Charlie shot him to protect Danny. That incident, combined with a few other
events, left you believing that she was mentally unstable. You no longer felt as though the children
were safe with her."
Gene looked up and met Bass' eyes. "You had her drug away, in front of her children, to a private
residence that specialized in caring for mental cases."
Bass look shattered as he pushed away from the table and stood. "Let me know when I can see her."
The sound of the screen door slamming echoed throughout the room.
Gene picked up the bottle as he poured more of the liquor into Miles and Rachel's glasses. "Her
parents watched it happen, not lending a single hand of support, while holding her children."
"Her parents?" Miles choked

The Great Gatsby Creative Writing

  • 1. The Great Gatsby Creative Writing "Cause I got a blank space baby! And I'll write your name!" Beckett finished off the last line of Taylor Swift's new smash hit. "Let's stop at this station up here." "Alright," I replied. I pulled my boots back on and wrapped my scarf around my neck. Beckett merged onto exit ramp and took a right into a rest stop. I hopped out and stretched a little, reaching my arms above my head. "I'm going to fill up, get me an iced tea," he said, heading over to the pump. Noticing my lack of response he turned to me with his most charming and dazzling smile and said "Please." Swoon. Huffing, I grabbed my wallet and trudged into the store. The door jingled as I entered and the old man behind the counter flashed me a toothy grin and smoothed his red uniform ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nothing. I quickly walked around the side of the building, but found no one except a girl sitting on a crate, smoking. She lifted her head and glared at me before blowing out some smoke. I wheeled around just as fast and let her return to her cigarette. "Okay, that was not Beckett," I muttered to myself and went around the other side of the gas station. I pulled out my phone and dialed Beckett's number. It didn't even ring once before going to voicemail. Now I was getting a little more worried. Beckett always had his phone on and ready. After fighting a little with a pine tree, I got around to the back of the building. No truck, no Beckett. I tried calling again but was met with the same monotone voice telling me to leave a message after the tone. I took a deep breath and regained my calm demeanor. I took the long way back around to the front this time and walked on the road, instead of fighting with the pine tree again. If Beckett wasn't at the gas station, where was ... • 2. Collapse Essay Prior to the collapse, Dew and I had joined Bally's gym downtown at 15th and Market. Our goal was to stay healthy and spiritual. Our minds were focused on the after hustling aspect of life and more into accepting Islam once we got finished in the game. I would bring a Yusuf Ali Quran with me to the gym and sit in the jacuzzi and sauna and just read some small chapters until I was ready to leave. My mind was at peace. I met one Muslim brother who used to sell perfumes who used to drop science on me in the locker room. A bald–headed young black lifeguard used to buss it up with me while I was in the pool sometimes reading the Quran. Every day is a hustle and another chance to better yourself. I'd go down South Philly to check my man Pone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I complained to Pone. Pone already told me the deal before, but I didn't listen. He said to me to only come out there when he was there. He tried to get my stuff back to no avail. I acknowledged my mistake and moved on. If I ever came down there to hustle, I never came without Pone again. Back up North Philly was a whole different story. The grind was much more relaxed although you had to be on your P's and Q's. North Philly is a gold mine for all types of hustles and grinds. I began working a certain corner with Dee and some of his peoples. As mentioned before, that most of us agreed that this hustling stuff was temporary and that Islam would be our savior once we got this money and stepped out of the game. You wouldn't see anyone from the corner attracting attention by buying fancy cars, clothes, or bling. If you came upon us, you only would see normal guys looking like they were conversing. As long as there weren't any problems, then the neighbors were cool and kept quiet about things. You had to be respectful, courteous, and charitable to keep the love going. They only wanted peace on the block. They would salute you, embrace you, and even help you out. They would warn you from the cops, stick up boys, or even from their own friends. Most people on that block weren't addicts, so you just had to maintain a respectful and mutual relationship with them. I played the corner at times depending on the day, but never stood idle. • 3. Dog Mabel Research Paper As the evening fell, the dark blue night rose up across the sky. I laid under the stars in my back yard, as I do every night with my dog Mabel. Mabel was approaching her old ages but she was a great listener. Usually I tell her about my day or fairy tales, tonight I told her about my mom. My mother passed away in a car accident when I was only a baby, she was the most loving person I knew and I miss her everyday, and sometimes it helps to talk about her. As I lay talking curled up next to mabel I could feel my eyes getting heavier and heavier as the warm summer breeze brushed past my face. And that was the last thing I remember, now i'm standing on the corner of Shelmet and Maine. I recognize the area, it's not too far from my house, but a few of the buildings are different now. I walk across the street to a old–fashioned diner and as I approach the door the cashier yells "no dogs aloud!" I look down and Mabel is standing right beside me. I leave the diner and along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I ran across the street and almost got hit by a two bicyclist, I pick up the newspaper lying on the bench dated May 18, 2007. As I flip through the paper I see the obituary of my mother, I knew this wasn't just a coincidence, this was my chance. I sat down on the same section of the sidewalk I sat before, although now it has many cracks. I repeated under my breath "May 16 2007" several times until finally I was placed on the same street corner again. I'm almost too positive it's the right date so I run down the street and take a left then I take two rights until I approach my driveway. As i'm just about to open the backdoor with the key that's kept in the seat cushion near the door I realize my parents don't know me, and I can't just walk in. I head behind the garage to strategize, I came up with the plan that i'll knock on the door and talk to them about a lost dog for a while, hoping to push back their schedule enough to prevent my mom from the ... • 4. Cyndi Lauper: A Short Story "Pick a hand." "Which hand?" "Any hand, just pick one." "Hmmm...that one!", I say, pointing a finger at my moms right arm. "Surprise!", she says, pulling out a new Barbie doll, completely brand new in the box. It's not often I get new toys. Her hair is blonde and she's wearing a pink swimsuit top with matching shorts, a pink snorkel and flippers are next to her. I can't stop smiling. She has big feet like me. "Thank you Thank you!" I exclaim, my smile wide as I scrunch my nose and jump up and down. My mom and I live in a castle, but we never have any money. It's called Rose Garden Grove Park, and it has lots of rooms and a lot of other people live here too. The castle has a Lord, I've only seen him once when we moved in, but mom is always talking and yelling on the phone with him, and about him. She says he doesn't like us, he's mean, just because mom plays her music loud sometimes. I don't know why he's mad though, they're good songs, my favorite song is by Cyndi Lauper, I don't remember the name though. I dance to it while mom cleans. I eat a cheerio out of my bowl of cereal, stand up and spin and nod my head and dance, then grab another cheerio. My mom's the best dancer, I want to be just like her, she's like a star, when she goes to work I stay home and watch movies, she says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. A Short Story : A Story? It was 9:00 PM, and I was by myself. The house was dark and looming, as I stayed in my room reading. An eerie creaking sound of the house settling filled the air, but was settling the explanation? I crept slowly into the hall, step by step, and made my way downstairs. When I got to the stairs I heard a crash from below. I thought, "Is there an intruder in my house?" I was home alone, but was I by myself? This was the first time I had to deal with this kind of a situation. It was like any other normal day, except for one thing. "Your sister has a basketball game today. We're leaving in thirty minutes," said my mom. I thought about that for a moment then I asked, "Mom, could I stay home?" After all, I was kind of tired and had seen seven other of my sister's basketball games. "Ok," she said with a sigh, "but have a phone around you at all times so you can call us if you need anything. Also, don't open the door for people you don't know," my mom said with a concerned look on her face. "I'll be fine, mom. After all, it's only for two hours," I said convincingly. Thirty minutes later, as my parents were pulling out of the driveway, and I waved bye to them as I jumped up and down. "Bye!" I hollered as they left. "See you soon!" As soon as they left, I ran upstairs to my room and jumped on my bed because no one was there to stop me. After about ten minutes, I got a bit bored. • 6. Descriptive Essay About Overcoming Overcoming "Okay, so to warm up tumbling, I'll have you guys touch in this order..." my coach Brooke told us but I had already stopped listening. I couldn't hear over the pounding of the blood rushing through my head. My teammates and I are about to warm–up our tumbling passes and I just got mine last week. Now, I started to overthink. "What if I fall on my head and die? What if I chicken out and land flat on my back? I would be utterly humiliated... and in pain but mainly humiliated." "Lauren, it's your turn to warm up," Brooke said snapping me out of my thoughts. "Okay Lauren, you can do this. Just don't die and you'll be fine," I said to myself hoping that I was right. The music stopped and I sauntered onto the floor. It was navy blue and not as malleable as ours. My heart beat started beating heavier and more intense. BA BUMP BA BUMP BA BUMP. I reached the corner of the floor and wiped my hands on my legs. I looked at my coach and she gave me a reassuring smile. I took a deep breath and started to sprint across the floor. I felt the satisfying thud of my hands making contact with the floor and my feet landing back on the floor. All I had to do know was wait for the next routine to finish so I could do it again. The routine finished and I strode back onto the floor but this time with more confidence. I wanted to get it over with swiftly so I started running a second after I had reached the corner. This time, my hands weren't the only thing that touched the ground. My ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Eulogy For Father I amble my way towards the double–glazed doors, as the saffron–yellow sun glowed like a medallion in the sky. It was currently 4:00 PM, and I was on my way to a interview to take the position of running my fathers, now soon to be mine business. In Patricia Grace's novel Baby No–Eyes under the chapter of Kura, the reader gets to see how Gran Kura's traumatic experience as a child is finally revealed after being held secret for sixty years. Throughout Kura, the reader is able to witness the many challenges that the characters face. These challenges range from the cultural situation in which the children live to the personal challenges that Kura herself faces when given the responsibility of taking care of her little cousin, Riripeti. The school that Kura, Riripeti, and the rest of the children attend is one that has been colonized by the English. At this school, the children's native language of Maori, is banned on all school grounds; English, being the only acceptable language to be spoken. The Maori children are forced to forget their native Maori identity, learn and accept their given English names and ultimately assimilate under the current English ruling. Throughout several excerpts of the chapter, the reader is able to see clearly expressed distaste for the Maori language. An example of this would be such as when on page 157 when a grandfather is speaking to a child named Waana in the Maori language. Everything about the beautiful game flows so smoothly, from the first whistle to the last, it is like an well composed symphony where each touch is a note. They must be trained up; you suddenly snap back and you are now standing in the insufficient room. • 21. Functional Symbols Of George Janine At Sunrise Senior Living A diverse family can be defined in many ways. However, after observing some of the individuals at Sunrise Senior LIving, this can be defined as all the members of a household under one roof. While residents had their own rooms, and shared if married, everyone was technically under the same roof. The seniors came together for meal–times, spent quality times in the common areas to socialize, and enjoyed the extracurricular activities that were planned on a weekly basis, along with meeting many volunteers to light up their day. George Herbert Mead was trusted with expressing the foundations of the symbolic interaction (SI) theory. It is used to understand how families create meaning. The premise of this came from his curiosity to understand the way humans create, react to, and redefine the shared, symbolic meanings in their social environment. As the text mentions, Mead agreed that words and nonverbal behaviors are the primary symbols to which humans assign meaning. In addition to this idea, he also explained on the idea that symbolic meanings are heavily influenced by perceptions, including people's own perceptions and other people's perceptions of them and the social structure around them. This was particularly for Ms. Janine at Sunrise Senior Living. She was a social butterfly who seemed to know everything that was going on around the home and most things about the health conditions some residents were living with. Miller and Sara J. Shettleworth University of Toronto K. Cheng (1986) suggested that learning the geometry of enclosing surfaces takes place in a geometric module blind to other spatial information. The signature phenomena of cue competition in conditioning are overshadowing and blocking. In overshadowing (Pavlov, 1927), when two cues are redundant predictors of the same outcome, less is learned about either than when it is the sole predictor of the outcome. In blocking (Kamin, 1969), training with a single cue reduces (blocks) learning about a second, redundant cue added later. Several studies have looked for blocking or overshadowing of geometric information by features (for a review, see Cheng & Newcombe, 2005). Most studies have concluded that a predictive feature near a goal does not block learning about the shape of an enclosure (e.g., Hayward, Good, & Pearce, 2004; Pearce et al., 2001; Wall et al., 2004). Moreover, in contrast with the expected competition between cues, geometry is sometimes learned better in the presence than in the absence of informative features. Pearce et al. (2001), for example, found that a beacon improved learning about the geometry of a triangular water tank. Other researchers have come across hints of this same phenomenon (e.g., Hayward et al., 2004; Hayward, McGregor, Good, & Pearce, 2003). Using a geometrically unambiguous kite–shaped water tank, Graham, Good, McGregor, and Pearce (2006) demonstrated in rats substantial potentiation of geometry learning by a feature. • 31. My First Car Crash Everybody remembers getting their very first car and discovering the limits they could push with their car. Well, my first car was not anything special, just a bright red 2008 Chevy Aveo5 Hatchback, which had a little less than eighty–thousand miles on it and was a manual transmission. This type of vehicle was far from being considered fast, but at least it was enjoyable to drive due to it being a stick shift. One of the worst habits an experienced driver can acquire is speeding, which I used to experiment to see the maximum speed I could reach with my small red car. Consequently, this mindset would all change after I endured the very first car crash of my life in April, 2016. It was a late Friday night, and I had just received a text from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The car suddenly went off the road and into a large ditch, catching some air as its forward momentum continued. The car and I abruptly stopped after we went head first into a tree. At the same time, hearing and seeing the airbag go off, but also the sound of screeching tortured metal crumpling as it hit the tree is what stains my mind. The airbag obscured my vision and the plume of smoke that followed right after. The smell of used gunpowder is what penetrated the air as I begin to get out of the shock of what just happened. At first, I thought the car was going to set on fire, so I quickly kicked open the crumpled door to get out. Once I was out, I was struggling to get out of the thorn bushes that surrounded the perimeter of the vehicle, which completely shredded both of my legs in the process. I was more injured by the thorn bushes, than the actual crashed, which I found humorous. After looking at the mangled metal that used to be my first car, I started to realize how lucky I was. I was personally more angered about my stupidity than anything else, yelling obscenities as a few people started to come closer to see if I was okay and inspect the ... Framed pieces of artwork are scattered across the cream walls, quite depressing artwork for a funeral home I might add. I'm sitting in an uncomfortable, poorly cushioned plastic chair, watching the clock hands go around slowly. A petite woman with a black pixie cut is sitting behind the front counter, typing annoyingly loud on her computer. • 37. Lurking Behind The Shadows Of Ghosts Lurking in the Shadows When I was younger, I never really believed in ghosts, but this experience changed my life. A long time ago, around the age of thirteen, I was in a lot of things that caused me to be labeled as a troublemaker. It was so bad that one time (ironically right before winter break) my parents thought it would be the best to come up with the ultimate punishment for me. They decided to leave me at home for a week while they were off on an extravagant vacation to the mountains. The first night before they left, they gave me a list of chores to do. Now, in the back on my mind, I was thinking how such a tuff guy like myself would not be doing any chores because chores were for the weak and spineless. Once they walked out the door, I began to make at least an attempt to actually read the list that was given to me, but after reading over the list, which was rather long, I balled it up and threw it right in the trash, not thinking about any of the consequences. I darted upstairs and hopped straight on my Xbox where I remained for a few hours until things started to get a little strange in the middle of the night. It's about one o'clock in the morning and I'm having a blast playing on my Xbox, not regretting what I did with the chore list my parents thought was ok to give me.
