Evaluation question 1
1. EVALUATION QUESTION 1:
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL
MEDIA PRODUCTS?
Harry Ellis
2. CONVENTION 1
• The first convention is based around the narrative of our OTS.
• The convention is that the ghost/spirit etc. is never fully exposed, and is
only seen via the acts it does.
• This can be seen in many paranormal films, but our OTS expands upon
this.
3. HOW DOES YOUR OTS
CHALLENGE/USE/DEVELOP THE CONVENTION
IN COMPARISON TO REAL FILMS?
• Our narrative is inspired a lot by the film ’Paranormal Activity’
• This is due to the films clever use of narrative enigmas, and the fact that the
spirit is never explicitly seen.
• Bellow are some pictures. The left is from our OTS. In the clip , the chandelier
is swinging by its self. On the right is an image from Paranormal Activity,
showing the same thing happening. Bellow them is another picture from our
OTS, showing another subtle sign that the house is haunted, as the TV turns
on by itself in the scene.
4. CONVENTION 2
• My second convention involves the make up used in our OTS
• The convention is that in the paranormal subgenre, gore and blood is
lacking quite a lot, and is only used to emphasizes fear or in death
scenes to enhance the reality of what is happening.
5. HOW DOES YOUR OTS
CHALLENGE/USE/DEVELOP THE
CONVENTION IN COMPARISON TO REAL
FILMS?
• Our OTS again takes inspiration from paranormal activity in this.
• In our OTS, there is very little make up needed. All we have used is a
small amount of fake blood, and some teeth we made out of icing sugar.
• The lack of lots of make up and blood makes our OTS seem more
lifelike, and more like a paranormal film, as there is no exhagerated gore.
• Bellow is two pictures from our OTS of the make up we used in it. In the
picture on the right, the teeth can be seen in the sink.
