1. Most horror films have a set of conventions that go on throughout the Genre;
these create an impact on the film to add to tension for the build ups, and to
create the sense that you don’t know what is going to happen next.
Here are some examples of the conventions that normally occur in Horror films:
- Dark/shadowy lighting to create an eerie mood.
- An Isolated location such as an abandoned house where most horror scenes
occur.
- A Female victim because women are normally targeted as their more vulnerable
to be attacked or killed.
- Plot of male/female relationship for example paranormal activity where the
woman gets possessed and kills her husband, this creates a personal juxtaposition
on the plot of the film because its loved ones against each other, which isn’t an
ordinary situation .
-Defeat of monster/ghost/demon this happens in most horror films to show the
victims victory.
Props mainly used in horror films include knives, fake blood, axe’s, childrens
toys, jewellery boxes, creepy dolls. However now our technology is better, they
use technology to create a fright in films; they use things like a phone to ring up
the victim before they come to kill them e.g in Scream. Or when a girl comes out
of the tv to scare people. Maybe the directors of those certain movies try to put
the point across to the audience or the people acting out the characters in the film
that technology is a bad thing like a danger and if you go near it there will be a
consequence.
