NATIONAL ANTHEMS OF AFRICA (National Anthems of Africa)
Voice over script for the analysis of halloweens opening
1. Voice over script for the Analysis of Halloweens opening:
The introduction starts with a black screen during the title sequence, this is
effective as it doesn’t reveal anything this will put the audience on edge. The
Jack-O-Lantern connotes evil and ghostly things; this is a genre signifier as
these particular themes correspond with traditional horror movies and there
narratives. I believe the use of the POV shot is effective towards the audience
as it reveals the eyes of a killer this is successful as it makes the viewer
uncomfortable, this is an unusual effect so therefore it creates tension. The
mask what the killer puts on is an abnormal but effective opening as the
audience cannot actual establish what is going on, I believe this is successful as
it creates an enigma within the audience. I like the frequent use of long shots
as they are a traditional shot type within the horror genre, as it reveals more
than one thing among the screen which the audience can actually focus upon.
The only close up throughout the whole opening was that of a knife this
seemed to glorify and prove the object is significant, I personally believe the
director chose to do that because it fore shadows the narrative later on within
the film. The victim is within the typical traditional horror film theme as she is
portrayed as a young hopeless female, and the fact that she is naked presents
her to be more vulnerable. When the killer is finally revealed towards the
audience as it becomes too their attention that he is only a child, this is quite
unusual as children are normally seen as being innocent so this is a clear
example of how Halloween challenges conventions of a typical Horror movie.
When the Child is finally revealed to the audience there is more lighting this
creates the illusion of exposure, this is effective as the audience will become
enlightened with relief. I believe the use of a clown costume is effective as
there is a widespread shared fear of clowns and they are generally associated
with evil individuals throughout the entire horror based Genre.
