Evaluation Q1
 Before planning our film opening we took out
some research so we can understand what our
film had to look like in order to attract our target
audience and maintain our audience.
 Now, because our film genre is Social Realism, we
had to watch and analyse films such as
adulthood, kidulthood, This is England. How ever
whilst we watched films from the past such as
This is England, we realised there was a change
in environment, clothing, locations.
 After watching modern social realist films
such as Adulthood. We as a group were
influenced to follow the film opening and
create something similar to adulthood.
 The key features about adulthood that we
liked about it, was the fact that the first 2-
3mins of the opening was a sequel of the first
film mad called Kidulthood. This is because it
consists of fast silent cuts which was creating
suspense. (see next slide for reference)
 The fast cuts and fades influenced us to use the
effect to make scenes feel stronger and build
tension leading to action.
 We thought about using silence but this may lead
to losing audience interest, so we decided to use
popular grim artists music, with permission.
 We also thought that inserting titles at the end
the same as adulthood but we decided it would
be best to insert the titles at the end of the
sequel in order to actually start the film “All in
50s”
 Adulthood was based in the suburbs of
London, so we decided to keep our locations
simple and within the local borough. We also
made sure there was area’s with low lighting
and area’s were the scene is urban and
matches codes and conventions of social
realist films.
 From real media products, representation of
characters is really important because this will
make it easier for audiences to understand the
story.
 Because our characters were young, films such as
adulthood, characters are based on stereotypes.
So we dressed our characters according to
stereotypes of young people – Hoodies,
trackies/jeans.
 Representation of characters also allow audiences
to relate to the characters and the social
problems they face through every day (form of
Uses and Gratification Model)
 Since our film is similar to Adulthood, and we
were mainly influenced by adulthood when
creating our film opening, our film is similar
to adulthood.
 Similarities – Both films consists of fast pace
editing when there is a change in scenes.
 Both film opening consist of violence between
young people
 Both Films contain urban grim music
 Both films are set in London
 In conclusion, real media products helped us
create our film opening, influencing our
decisions and directing the film.
 We used effects and scene paces to help
create tension and build on audience
interaction and maintain audiences interest.
 Our film idea fits the criteria of Social Realist
films because our film opening outlines social
issues young people face in life.

  • 3.  Before planning our film opening we took out some research so we can understand what our film had to look like in order to attract our target audience and maintain our audience.  Now, because our film genre is Social Realism, we had to watch and analyse films such as adulthood, kidulthood, This is England. How ever whilst we watched films from the past such as This is England, we realised there was a change in environment, clothing, locations.
  • 4.  After watching modern social realist films such as Adulthood. We as a group were influenced to follow the film opening and create something similar to adulthood.  The key features about adulthood that we liked about it, was the fact that the first 2- 3mins of the opening was a sequel of the first film mad called Kidulthood. This is because it consists of fast silent cuts which was creating suspense. (see next slide for reference)

  • 6.  The fast cuts and fades influenced us to use the effect to make scenes feel stronger and build tension leading to action.  We thought about using silence but this may lead to losing audience interest, so we decided to use popular grim artists music, with permission.  We also thought that inserting titles at the end the same as adulthood but we decided it would be best to insert the titles at the end of the sequel in order to actually start the film “All in 50s”
  • 7.  Adulthood was based in the suburbs of London, so we decided to keep our locations simple and within the local borough. We also made sure there was area’s with low lighting and area’s were the scene is urban and matches codes and conventions of social realist films.
  • 8.  From real media products, representation of characters is really important because this will make it easier for audiences to understand the story.  Because our characters were young, films such as adulthood, characters are based on stereotypes. So we dressed our characters according to stereotypes of young people – Hoodies, trackies/jeans.  Representation of characters also allow audiences to relate to the characters and the social problems they face through every day (form of Uses and Gratification Model)
  • 9.  Since our film is similar to Adulthood, and we were mainly influenced by adulthood when creating our film opening, our film is similar to adulthood.  Similarities – Both films consists of fast pace editing when there is a change in scenes.  Both film opening consist of violence between young people  Both Films contain urban grim music  Both films are set in London

  • 11.  In conclusion, real media products helped us create our film opening, influencing our decisions and directing the film.  We used effects and scene paces to help create tension and build on audience interaction and maintain audiences interest.  Our film idea fits the criteria of Social Realist films because our film opening outlines social issues young people face in life.
