2. Cinematography
The panning and tracking shot of the car moving
displays that the camera movement wants to take us
on a journey with the car and the characters in it. It
allows us to be in the car and experience the
movement with the characters.
The close up shot of the character identify the
characters facial expression which may connote
what type of atmosphere it is. E.g. if they are angry,
the atmosphere is intense.
The tracking shot of the boot of the car displays
suspense to the audience as we hear banging noises
coming from the boot as the camera is moving
closer. This has given me ideas of how to create
suspense in my crime film opening.
3. Sound
Here we identify non diagetic sound where the guy is
doing a action that doesn’t fit with the voice over
that we here. This shows that there may have been a
time shift rewinding to the actions that have token
place before. This gives my group an idea of how to
use sound and voice over’s in our crime film opening.
We then see how from a voice over, the sound
changes to music . The audience may capture that
the film is a crime genre due to the voice over and
what is said. For example ‘I always wanted to be a
gangster’ explains that the film is crime as there will
be use of gangs, violence and crime. This has helped
us to test out how it would work if we fit a voice over
in our opening sequence then followed by music as
we discussed this already.
4. Mise en scene
The lighting in this shot is shown to be dark which gives
enigma codes to the audience of what the genre
may be. The dark lighting explains the type of stuff
that the film may consist of for example crime and
violence are usually associated with dark
atmospheres.
This has also helped us decided on what type of
lighting we would like as our film opening is crime
genre as well. This would also be good as it will involve
the audience discovering what type of genre it is due
to the lighting
The costumes used also give enigma codes in what
type of people they are which also links to the genre
of the film. We can see here that the costumes are
suits which links to crime and gangster films, connoting
that this is a crime film. This has helped me decided
the costumes for our opening as we have to be
specific in order to establish the genre.
5. Character exposition
The exposition of the characters explains that the
middle guy may be the leader as he is seen to be in
charge and in more control. The audience can tell
that the characters are a team through the way
they are positioned and how they converse.
This shot connotes that this guy is definitely the
leader as he takes action to stab the guy in the
boot. The facial expression and action we see
taking place displays that the film genre is a crime
as the props used also reveal the genre.
The character position here also shows how the
guy in the far right is not much of a protagonist
character, more like a side kick. The guy with
the gun is shown to be the second protagonist
due to the actions and position he is in.
