E . Eniola O: FINAL EVALUATION
1. EVALUATION FOR RADIO PROGRAMME
For this unit we were asked to create a radio programme so we all had to work in groups of
three or four. In the radio programme we were talking about extra-curricular activities, how
and why would it be beneficial for students all over Camden or all over the world? We were
asked to produce a script and a recording of extra-curricular activities. Then we had
questionnaires that were prepared for teachers and students that way they can tell us if it is
useful. I did this to get their point of view. I wanted to know if some students find it
beneficial in the future as well as the teachers.
When we were planning for our TV broadcast, we used a script to help us mainly because,
we were unsure of how to start or what to do. By the time we used the script for the first
time we knew what the assignment was. The script included who the host was and what the
radio programme was about. We had to include a jingle (a theme tune for the show). This is
where you normally get a chance to interview a student and ask them about their thoughts
or opinion about activities they were currently doing. The reason why I added the jingles
was because, when i looked on Nick Grimshaw’s radio show programme website I noticed
Nick had some hip-hop R’n’b mixed jingles for different types of audience. Since my target
audience is aimed at the youth I thought it would be the best fit.
In the process of producing the radio programme, I worked with two pupils from my class
(Antony and Sarayna) in order to play different roles. As you already know this radio show is
all about extra-curricular activities. When I set up the questionnaires and surveys I created a
chart of the amount of people that attend 5 activities this is my way of collecting primary
data from others.
The target audience that this is aimed at 11-18 year olds. The reason why is because
everyone from the age of 10-18 or younger have clubs to attend to, it is a way for them to
socialize with others and a way to have fun, study and prepare themselves for the future. I
When I created thequestionnaires, I noticed
that most ofthe studentsenjoy most ofthe
extra-curricular activities they attend. But older
studentsfrom yr11 to sixth formersare quite
busy and don’t have time.
When I read the responsefrom theteachers’
questionnaire many ofthemwrotedown the
studentsare taken out ofschool for
tournamentswith other schools. I think that isa
very good way to get kidsinvolved.
2. researched As-live broadcast, live broadcasts including music and speech programing etc. , I
did all of these things to find out which type of broadcast would be the best fit for me and
my group (based on what we are capable of doing together).
We recorded in the studio using capacitor mics; I made sure that there were not any rustling
papers or anyone talking over each other also that it could be more refined. I had to
decrease the disturbance of unwanted noises so that we could be able to get it done
quickly. Later on, Sarayna and I went to the canteen to record some more questions and
answers we needed background noise to show that we were in school. We used the
recorder that our teacher had given us, it wasn’t clear when we were speaking but it’s
better than nothing. The reason why we need a good script is because I think that it will
guide us to creating a good broadcast. For the recording we used a capacitor mic, because it
is very loud. It is also useful for these types of interview/shows. But there were a lot of
background noises we had to re-take it so that it could be perfected. We did not want to
have difficulties with the mic or the noises so I removed any paper that was near anybody
and I told them not to talk, it was very hard but we managed to get the work done.
The recordings we did so far were done and dusted and I think it was successful because
there was a lot of time and effort that we kept in the work. Even if we made a mistake, I cut
all the unwanted parts out and synced them together. That way we would not have to keep
on recording over and over again. There were some background noises but I didn’t let it get
in the way of my work so I had to cut a lot of things out. If one of us were not speaking loud
enough in a recording I would increase the volume and decrease the muffles in the voices.
The mistakes that were made was all completed and edited on Reason software.
I think that the mix was very good, that is what will attract a lot of people to our radio
show/broadcast. Having a good mix is important because without it you wouldn’t exactly
have many viewers or audience to look at the work. Without the mix it would just seem very
dull, I think including the mix just adds on that bit of excitement, it is what they youth needs
after all.
All of the radio shows I have looked at, researched and listen to, I have combined several
things that were very good in each of them and I managed to fit them all in my broadcast.
