1. Evaluation
Firstly, I began by doing my research into the steampunk genre and influences. I
did this by going onto the Internet and researching steampunk on different
websites such as Wikipedia and the steampunk website.
Secondly I made an image of my
character with illustrations. This was my
initial idea for my character but it has been changed a lot since then. The
drawing was first hand sketched and the scanned into Photoshop to be then
illustrated.
Then I created my bitmap drawing in
Photoshop. I started by generating the image
within the adobe software first then I started
to visit Google images to find the robotic arm
that my character description needed, I also
found an old red coat that looks like it is from
the civil war and to mask the coat to the
picture of me I first had to warp the jacket to
the shape of my body and this was because
the original picture was too thin to fit. The
warp to help me a lot to stretch and widen the jacket. I also had to warp
the robotic arm onto my real arm to give the impression that the
character not only matched the description but also that he looked as if
he actually had a prosthetic left arm. The final design of the character has the
detail and characteristics of the portfolio that I chose to create him from. I
believe that the way my bitmap looks I well presented with detail and
understanding of the steam punk genre.
I then started to create my illustrator vector drawing by
importing my bitmap into illustrator and then using the pen
tool to drawn the outline of my character his arm and the
other detail that my bitmap had shown. The illustrator took a
considerable amount of time longer to do than the bitmap, the
reason for this was because the bitmap was mainly photos
taken from the steampunk work and warped to agree with my
character. Whereas with this the detail of the arm jacket and
2. other details had to first drawn, detailed, coloured and placed by myself. I felt
that the detail of the arm took a lot longer than the rest of the illustrator vector
because of the detail and time that I had to put into his arm with the drawing of
parts and the colouring with the palette tool. Overall I think that my character in
illustrator also has much
detail to match with the
character portfolio.
This is the my work
process where I showed
the different stages of
my illustrator vector
and the tools and
techniques that I used
within the work to
create a fully detailed
illustrator vector
drawing within adobe
illustrator’s software.
